There are plenty of reasons Engen Hus gets five stars from reviewers. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and luxe linens. Shared space makes for a far more comfortable stay. Rooms and bathrooms are spotless. Hosts are super service oriented. All in all a far superior experience than chain hotels.

We stayed at Engen Hus for one night with another couple on our way to the SLC airport the following day (only a 20 minute drive). We were impressed with every aspect of our stay and our only disappointment was that we couldn't spend more time there! The house was well decorated, comfortable, very clean, and welcoming. Both rooms were a nice size with comfortable beds and large bathrooms. We spent time on the patio where we ate pizza that we ordered for dinner (we would highly recommend Supremo Pizza!). Esther could not have been a more accommodating host! Since we had to leave at 6:30 the next morning and couldn't stay for breakfast, she made us 4 large parfaits to take with us. They were delicious! There were a lot of nice extras during our stay: we were able to keep our cold items in the kitchen refrigerator, there was an area that had different drinks and snacks that were complimentary, there was a Keurig with various coffees and teas that we could use at any time (with to-go cups that we used in the morning), there were 3 different size chargers on the nightstands for our use, and many other amenities. We didn't want for anything! We would highly recommend staying at the Engen Hus and if you can stay for more than one night it would be well worth it!

We had a beautiful room and a great breakfast. We stayed in the downstairs room (Corey) that was right off the breakfast and living room area. There was some noise in the evening from other guest talking loudly in the living room but it did not last too late. The bed was a little soft and the sheets were good quality. There was a nice patio and a hot tub right outside our back door. No one used the hot tub since it was unusually hot is Salt Lake when we were there. They provided drinks and snacks which was a nice plus.

Love love love this place, the owners are fantastic people. I know of them in the community even though they don't know me. Nothing but good things. Lovely atmosphere, 5 stars :)

Such a gorgeous and relaxing place to stay. Even though it’s not far from a large highway (easy to get to), it’s quiet and cozy. Esther is the kindest, most generous host. She genuinely cares and goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable, clean, and enjoyable. My husband was so excited to customize his breakfast. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone wanting to be close to the mountains, have a personal touch during their visit, support local businesses, and have an amazing home cooked breakfast. Other notes: Doug and Karen have done a fantastic job maintaining this place and keeping the Engen family history alive. As someone who works in an adult rehab facility, I was also very impressed to see the accessibility of our room.

Esther was an amazing host! I booked this B&B to celebrate my husband’s birthday & it was exactly the type of atmosphere I hoped for! The location to the city was absolutely perfect - nestled into the foothills in a charming area of town but close enough to SLC to explore all the city had to offer & only 20 min from Park Cities. The house itself gives off those romantic cabin vibes, the huge beautiful trees on the property were all changing to those lovely fall colors. We stayed in the downstairs room Corey, king sized bed, comphy sheets (if you know - you know) & HEATED bathroom floors, spacious and high vaulted ceilings. The breakfasts were equal parts beautiful & delicious - there were four options to choose from. We enjoyed the hot tub one night & sat by the fire in the main room another afternoon read our books… We didn’t get the chance to sit by the fire pit but I wish we could’ve! There was a full coffee & tea bar to keep ourselves caffeinated and comfortable. Adorable mini fridge full of local beer, sparkling water, cokes & a little snack bar suitable for all those mid afternoon munchies. Esther also made warm hot fresh cookies mid afternoon!!! I couldn’t be happier with our visit & will definitely be back.

We absolutely loved Engen Hus. We were immediately welcomed by Esther and shown all the common features including the guest kitchen, snack bar and coffee/tea station, 2 common living areas (upstairs and downstairs) furnished with comfortable furniture as well as work tables or game tables, and the outside patio area which includes a hot tub, fire pit, and a table and chairs. The house was built by the 3 famous ski brothers who came from Norway but settled in Utah. The place was so open and beautifully decorated. There are 3 choices for breakfast with very generous portions and healthy food. Esther was so interesting to talk to and a very gracious hostess. She had rescued a baby bird and had styled a little incubator for it. She shared the baby bird with another guest and us, feding it with an eye dropper. Bedding is super lux and the mattress was very comfortable. The bathrooms are spacious, and some have large showers and others a tub/shower combo, all recently redone and modern. Location was great in a lovely neighborhood away from the city but easy to get to with a short drive, plus easy to reach all the ski areas. We will definitely be back to Engen Hus when we come back to Salt Lake City.

Yelp
This was my first excursion to a bed and breakfast and it was pretty amazing! We drove up from Phoenix to Salt Lake for the weekend and stayed here with Doug & Karen and a few other guests. The house itself or Hus as they call it from the original Scandinavian design of it, was super warm and inviting. It was incredibly clean throughout and our room was great sized and very comfortable. The bathroom was big and it had a great shower as well. I was curious about how they could possibly supply hot water to everyone as I think they have 4 or 5 guest suites and Doug showed me how they have two hot water tanks for the just the three rooms upstairs and more for the rooms downstairs. They really seemed to think everything through here. Lots of open space in the house and at no time did we feel like guests, we felt like we were staying with friends and that was very unique to me having never done this before. Let's see, they had snacks and beverages out at some points during the day or evening and I apologize, I cannot remember which. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING! We had everything, all of the foods were there. Eggs, sausage and apple rings, pastries, fruits, juices. Everything was fantastic! I do wish we had taken more time there as it was so nice. Already thinking about going back next summer for a few days. Thanks Karen! Thanks Doug! If I can figure out how I'll put a few pictures up that I took as well.

Yelp
Rarely do you find a bed and breakfast with such attention to detail. The B and B was once the home of Corey Engen and the history of the home adds to the overall charm. The rooms are decorated for different locations, we stayed in Catherine, which has it's own private balcony. The rooms are all beautifully decorated, with the bathrooms even coordinating with the theme. Many of the rooms have quilts made by Karen and Doug's oldest daughter. The beds and pillows were comfy and we felt right at home during our stay. Engen Hus is immaculate. I enjoyed all the natural light and attention to detail. The owner's, Karen and Doug, are kind and helpful. Breakfast was a wonderful meal, with so much food. We especially liked the fresh fruit and homemade coffee cake. We will definitely return for another stay!

Yelp
Just had a fantastic stay. Hosts are very welcoming. Breakfast was delicious and healthy. They do all the little extras to make you feel welcome, e.g. Little complimentary snacks on the counter for those arriving late. The bed was super comfortable. The entire property was spotlessly clean, and recently renovated with charming ski chalet-inspired decor. Highly recommend this B&B, especially if you are skiing nearby Snowbird or even if you just have a business trip to SLC.

Yelp
One of the best accommodations I've ever stayed in. I am super picky about where I stay and this was as fine as any five-star hotel I've been to. Immaculately clean throughout, great location, super comfortable and quiet room set at perfect temperature, and Esther is just so helpful and lovely to speak with. The breakfast buffet was perfect for me, but Esther will also prepare a full breakfast if you prefer.

Yelp
We had a great time a the Engen Hus. It's a 4 bedroom B&B but it feels like a resort. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the nicely decorated rooms, even though we stayed in one we were able to see them all. We had a very relaxing end of the night in their hot tub. In the morning we were greeted by a gluten free European breakfast( I cannot eat gluten) and a hot pot of tea and coffee. Get ready for a good time here.

Yelp
Beautiful accommodations. Our room was extremely comfortable and spacious. The bed and pillows were top notch. Karen and Doug went above and beyond to welcome our family into their B&B. Breakfast was great with all healthy options. They had a game room and musical instruments perfect for our daughter. Very close to Brighton Ski Resort, and felt so good to come home to after a long day of snow.

Yelp
Karen and Doug are just the kind of people who should own a B&B. They are so kind and hospitable, and our stay couldn't have been better. They both met us at the door when we arrived and had cookies and chocolate waiting for us. We stayed in the Corey room and we were impressed with the bed, the size of the room, and the bathroom. We had a door that led out to the patio and the hot tub, which was very nice. The house has a closet full of movies and games, and it has a large great room with comfy couches that guests can use along with teas, coffees, and hot chocolate options available 24/7. One of the highlights of our stay was the gourmet breakfast Doug and Karen made us. It was served buffet style and had several options, and they said they change their menu daily to offer variety. It was healthy and delicious, and though we did not have any allergies or preferences, they did offer to adjust the menu to accommodate us if we did. The hosts were especially good with their people skills- they remembered our names and our stories, and even remembered the name of our baby daughter, who we left with her grandma for the night :) I don't think it would be possible to improve our stay, we loved it!I don't think it would be possible to improve our stay, we loved it!

Yelp
Doug and Karen are wonderful hosts. Engen Hus is so cozy. We stayed in the largest room (Cory) so we had our own thermostat to make our room nice at toasty (essential since we're from Arizona and can't stand the cold). Both time we visited Salt Lake, it snowed, which was a fun treat. Doug provided a sled and gloves so we could play in the snow. The breakfasts are AMAZING! Hot chocolate (and I think coffee and tea) are always available. Breakfast is hearty with several options, all produce is fresh and delicious. They also set out snacks in the afternoon which was a nice treat whenever we returned from an adventure. Doug also de-iced the front porch for us so we wouldn't slide and gave us fantastic restaurant recommendations in the area. They also have a jacuzzi and the B&B is located within driving distance of great skiing and hiking. The B&B has a wonderful family environment. My baby was welcomed and Karen provided toys and a high chair for her. We've been here twice and plan to return in the future.

Yelp
We had such a nice stay and will definitely come back. Comfortable bed, nice big towels and snacks and coffee/tea/cocoa on hand. They are gracious hosts and the area is beautiful. We ate at The Silver Fork Lodge at Karen's recommendation and we loved it. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious....the bacon ahhhhhhmazing! Looking forward to a return stay in the spring.

Yelp
This is a terrific choice especially for family members or friends who want a friendly and comfortable "home away from home" to spend some time together. The breakfasts are creative and delicious. Rooms are lovely. We enjoyed the hot tub too. We highly recommend this B & B.
