The Excelsior, Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece - Explore & Book

"In 1925, Konstantinos Tornivoukas made an international splash opening Thessaloniki's first luxury hotel. Today it's his 4th hotel, The Excelsior, that's making waves. Reclaimed from a 1920s-era building, this hotel dominates a corner of the city's downtown shopping and dining district, thanks to its striking neo-classical facade. Inside, wrought-iron flourishes and ornate ceiling cornicings lend a Jazz Age elegance, a voluptuous orange mobile makes the lobby gallery-chic, and the bistro/bar spilling out onto the sidewalk is a local hotspot. But what earns near-universal praise is the well-honed high standard of the hotel, blending comfort, luxury and service. It's all in the details (both functional and pampering): luscious bergamot, citrus and honey toiletries; bedside reading wands that adjust precisely; a welcome bottle of Greek wine, and twice-daily maid service. The 34 rooms and suites are quiet and comfortable, luxurious cocoons to return to after sightseeing. Days begin with a generous breakfast buffet in the bistro, and smiling staff are eager to help you plan your day. Highs Thessaloniki itself - an interesting, energetic city with friendly locals and a lively music sceneIdeally located a block from the waterfront and just steps from historic landmarks, designer shopping and gourmet diningExcellent service from kind staff who speak impeccable English The bistro Charlie D. Brasserie, offering all-day food and a bar renowned for its cocktails and Friday-night funGorgeous architectural bones dressed in cool contemporary art by up-and-coming local artists Lows No pool, though that's not unusual for hotels in central ThessalonikiSome spaces are cramped - previous guests have complained that the Classic Double rooms (20sqm) are too snug; our shower was roomy enough for 2, but the (separate) bathroom was barely big enough for me No twin rooms - this is best for couples and little families (children under 12 stay for free on extra beds)" - Joyce Copeland

The Excelsior (Thessaloniki, Greece) 7 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Right in the busy heart of the city center, just a block from Thessaloniki’s scenic waterfront, the Excelsior is a bit of a surprise. The classic facade gives little hint of the sort of hotel that awaits inside — this is a boutique in the contemporary mold, a hotel whose urbane, understated modern design belies Thessaloniki’s history-first reputation." - Tablet Hotels

We visited the hotel last Monday, but unfortunately, we only stayed for one night, as we were in transit. The hotel was spotless, very nicely located, with the staff very nice and professional. In the evening we decided to go to the restaurant for something very small, as we had a hearty lunch and then our experience got even better. Lovely Christina looked for us impeccably, and she went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. We are travelling very often and as diamond members we recognise a professional person when we see one. Thank you, Christina, the hotel is very lucky to have you!

This is rightly lauded as a good hotel and we had a lovely stay there, but it didn’t quite make the status of great for me. |The room we had was small (23) and not particularly quiet, though it must be said that everything within worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Service was generally good, particularly at breakfast. The selection at breakfast was good but somewhat repetitive after 5 days so perhaps some thought may be given to making that more dynamic.

Definitely a serviceable option, although nothing special. On a return trip to Thessaloniki I'd probably try the Electra Palace instead, simply because it looked like it had rooms which had balconies and nice views out towards Aristotle Square and the sea. My biggest complaint at Excelsior was that my room had basically no view (and some pretty dodgy plumbing).

I spent four days at the Excelsior in early May. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff of this hotel. They were so helpful in making the arrangements for a special visit I had come to Greece to make. Their efforts went beyond mere professionalism. My room was excellent, spotlessly clean, as was breakfast and room service. I do hope to return.

The hotel is ideally located for everything you need. It is a 3 minute walk into the main square and if you go in the opposite direction a further 3 minutes to some great eating restaurants. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean and tidy. The breakfast has a lot of options. The only downside we found was on our last day as they seemed short staffed at breakfast and overall breakfast took over an hour due to waiting 25 minutes for the menu even after asking. Staff were very apologetic though and luckily we weren’t in a hurry. Overall though we loved this hotel and all their staff. The cleaner was very friendly as well and deserved a shout out. Also the leaving of bedtime stories every night with chocolate was a nice touch. We will be back.

Excellent in all ways. Very helpful, welcoming and warm personnel and very efficient : they even were able to stop some noise from the air circulation in the room. |At breakfast, probably the best Greek coffee we have had in Greece ever (and we tasted dozens). The only negative side is that there was no view to the sea but the rest of what this hotel had to offer largely compensates for that. Ans a couple of nasty customers who didn’t want one of us to get in the elevator (but of course the hotel can in now way be responsible for that. Some rich people have no education). |We warmly recommend this excellent hotel.

A lovely hotel in an ideal situation near the centre, an easy walk to the sea close to restaurants and bars. Not too big and a family run hotel. Elizabeth was very helpful on the front desk, they take a great pride in their service. All the staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very generous and delicious. Lots of nice small touches. Who could ask for more.

Staff very friendly & professional. Big breakfast. May be the area is very noisy during the week-end due to the cafés close to the corner and the room was not enough isolated , but i always bring ear plugs when travelling. Bed was smooth and i slept well. Room was clean. There is a room service.
