The concept of the hotel is great , the nature and the excursions that are well organized and all part of the all inclusive package . The pool is really big and very nice temperature so easy to enjoy . It’s also nice that they bring a basket of coffee to your room early in the morning and there’s always bar service at the pool - easy place to relax However for the price it’s really below expectations , the hotel is quite old and the only parts that are unkept are the restaurant / lounge / reception area . The rooms are in bad condition with termine infested wood and the roof leaked a lot when it rained in the balcony of the room as there are huge gaping holes in the roof. Also food in restaurant is very average. So all in all you can have a good time here but don’t set your expectations too high

If you want an all inclusive full of adventure, that’s it!|All the excursions were amazing - mayan ruins, kayak in bacalar, kayak in laguna Milagros|, crocodiles sightings… there is a lot of walking, climbing , kayaking, biking - this is not your regular all inclusive to sit and do nothing! This is the best!|It’s a small resort, only about 40 rooms, only one restaurant (a la carte), but what a restaurant! Every meal was amazing!|The staff was great, and a special thanks to Angel, for being so attentive and caring!|We will be back, probably with our teen kids!

Amazing experience! We had only stayed at large resorts before this, and this 40 room place blew us away. Love how close and easy everything is. There was always a table at the amazing restaurant and a lounger by the pool. Fantastic food and service. And our little bungalow was perfect....spent way too much time in the hammock ;)

Just got back from a 6 night stay at the Explorean Kohunlich. The experience was fantastic with the all inclusive including all the excursions. The service and food was amazing with a different menu everyday. The tour guides were knowledgeable, courteous and also very patient drivers. We went on 4 of the 6 excursions they had planned out for us. 1. Chakanbakan Lagoon evening/night tour: we saw both howler and spider monkeys from our kayak. The sounds from the jungle were incredible. 2. Lake Bacalar: the kayak trip to the beach area was absolutely beautiful. The colors of this fresh water lake rival that of Caribbean ocean. 3. Magical Town of Bacalar and the Blue Hole Cenote: the fort was interesting with the history of the real Pirates of the Caribbean. The best part was relaxing in the Blue Hole Cenote with our life vests and enjoy the water and nature. 4. The Archeological Ruins of Kohunlich: the area was well preserved as it didn't get attacked by the Spanish during the conquest. The masks etched in stone still have some of their original pigmentation. Points for improvement for management: -The rooms were very nice but need some refreshing. Some furniture was in poor condition and the shutter doors were sagging but instead of using braces they cut the bottom of the doors at an angle so they would close. The front porch sitting area with hammock was a nice touch. Bed was very comfortable. -The pool area is really great but needs more loungers for when guests return from excursions. You could double the number of loungers easily and add at least 4 more umbrellas. Summary: loved our stay, the food, the drinks and the service! I would highly recommend this to anyone that wants an adventure rather than just sit at a resort. The newly paved roads made the excursions easy to get to (other when dirt roads were required). Bring repellant and sunscreen. We didn't have any mosquitos but were there in the mosquito off season.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this charming resort celebrating our 25th anniversary! The best way to describe the resort is that it is like a cruise. Food, drinks and daily excursions all wrapped into one. The resort never feels crowded and the staff is outstanding! Special thanks to Jesus, Emma, and Neyil for their hospitality! The daily excursions were all fun and well done. In our anniversary, we had the private dinner in the jungle. It was way better than I ever imagined! Super cool with some fun initial theatrics. The resort is a bit off the beaten path but that is partly why it is so special. Nature is all around. Great bird watching especially on the road in front of the resort!

My husband and I arrived from Boston and enjoyed a week at the resort celebrating our 41st anniversary. The staff was warm and gracious and went above and beyond to be hospitable to us, non-Spanish speaking guests. Our room was comfortable and we loved being nestled in the jungle setting. Our anniversary was celebrated with special surprises that made our celebration all the more memorable. ||We enjoyed the daily adventure excursions and appreciated our knowledgeable guides who worked hard to make each activity interesting and safe. A special shoutout to Daniel, Jesus, and Enoch for taking extra time with us to interpret information. ||At the resort, the food was phenomenal. We enjoyed the suggested menu options and appreciated the chef preparing delicious vegetarian meals for me. Every dish was colorful, beautifully presented, and delicious. The salads were outstanding! The chef that prepared the salads is an artist making each a feast for the eyes and palate. ||I worried that we might be the most senior guests and the excursions might be difficult. I needed not to have worried as the guests were of all ages and the excursions challenging but not beyond our abilities. We had fun on each and loved the special surprises that were added to a couple of our activities. | |One last note of praise, the other guests made our visit to Mexico outstanding with their friendliness and graciousness. Thank you to all the lovely people who shared the week with us. The excursions gave opportunity for friendship and camaraderie making for a most special vacation. A 5 star week!

Yelp
A really wonderful stay! Came through a Hilton Timeshare. Found this place extremely remote in the most peaceful, relaxing and wonderful kind of way. The service staff is extremely friendly and wanting to accommodate you in any way. The rooms are simple but comfortable and charming. They provide activities everyday which are highly recommended. The tour guides help explain history, social nuances and fun facts. The drives can be long (an hour one way) but are definitely worth it. They range from kayaking, ruin tours, city exploration, swimming in sink holes etc. They have surprise events sprinkled in throughout! This seems to be a more local Mexican destination vs international but I liked that. It felt special, authentic and unique from other Mexican resorts that cater to more partying and alcohol. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Pets are allowed in the pool, restaurant, and vehicles without restriction if the guest pays the frontdesk workers enough, even if you are allergic. The frontdesk workers make you miss the activity rather than restricting the access of the pets. The people who plan activities assign everyone the same ones regardless of any dissability of the guests. Your only option is to miss those that you cannot be a part of, even though that's the supposed "value" of the place. Do not come!

Yelp
The hotel is very different and special, but the experience was really bad. Even though it is against the rule, pets are allowed in common spaces like pool, shuttles and restaurant if paying the administrator some money. Allergies and disabilities stated at the time of reservation, check in, and during the stay, are disregarded. Guests are disrespectful and abusive, backed up by Shirli Emily from the front desk. There is potential in the hotel to provide an amazing experience, only if rules were to be reinforced, administrators would not be corrupt, guests would be respectful and understand that they do not own the place and need to be mindful of other guests (though if you pay the administration/front desk, you can do whatever you wish). If you want to see what the issues in the Mexican culture are (though the culture has amazing things too), this is the perfect place. Adventure guides and waitresses are very kind, but the administration is very corrupt, dismissing and careless, and guests are disrespectful and abusive. Overall, I do not recommend this place.

Yelp
Extremely wonderful place...a dream.... The Chef, Miguel, was extremely accommodating for my vegeterian meals. The waiters were excellent....and the food...extraordinary! I would like to mention Adriana, by the swimming pool, and the whole team for your daily trips. The bacalar lagoon was breathtaking. the cayaking at night was wonderful and the Kohunlich pyramids were incredible! It was our second time, and we will go a third time. Thank you very much!

Yelp
Highly recommend coming here again and again. It was our first time and we were blown away with the entire experience. The food was fantastic as were beverages. The staff went the extra mile to be sure you were happy and content all the time. It is rustic charm and elegance in the jungle. The tours were so fun and educational - learned so much about the Mayan Culture. Our weather was great - not perfect but we were having so much fun it didn't matter. On the tours we met such lovely people from all over the world and made some wonderful friendships.

Yelp
This is not your typical Mexican resort. Although there are some typical resort offerings, open bar, meals (amazing ones!) included, pool, beautiful surroundings, it's just so much more than that. Every day you have the option to go on an adventure with some of the most personable and knowledgeable guides. Our adventures included a bike ride through a jungle with tour of an abandoned mission that may soon disappear; many Mayan ruins; and floating in a sulfur lagoon. At night, you relax (because there is no wi-fi! Which I ended up loving!) with other hotel guests, playing cards, drinking, swimming in the pool, etc., before returning to your very own air-conditioned bungalow or cabana. The lodging is incredibly clean, the beds are amazing (probably partly due to exhaustion from the adventures) and you even get a porch with a hammock. Every morning we woke up early to sit on our porch to watch all of the beautiful birds and critters go about their daily routine. The cabanas also have their own private pools.
