The Fairy Glen

A beautiful and magical place. A must stop. The road to get there is both ways but only one straight road. There’s some passing places. We went with our motorhome, and it was no problem. The parking has a fixed hour/pay, it was 3£ for 4h.

Fantastic spot to visit. Plan a couple of hours to soak in the various views along the hike. Climb to the fallen castle top or walk the easy path along the mounds and enjoy the quaint ruins and small forest. We went in mid October.

Enchanting from the first glance. The hills curve like they’ve been folded by hand, soft and deliberate, with a serenity that feels older than memory. Due to time constraints, we didn’t have time to walk fully into the glen, but even the short walk felt like stepping into a magical landscape. It was strangely calming to see the sheep resting and grazing languidly. There’s a rocky formation known as "Castle Ewen" that I spied from afar. It stands apart — striking, solid and still. Even with such a brief visit, the place stayed with me, leaving an imprint with its gentle contours and surreal beauty.

We took epic photos of my husband and me, thanks to the incredible wind on top of the Fairy Glen! I’ve never experienced gusts like that before haha. It was an easy walk with a unique landscape. Such a beautiful place!

The rock circles are much smaller than they seem, but don’t let that detract you from visiting. The place is beautiful and the walk is very easy. One of our more enjoyable walks on the Isle of Skye. Paid parking available, but not unreasonably priced.

Quite a unique and pretty location. Nothing “to do” except enjoy the scenery and walk the paths, see the sheep and the views. I was skeptical but it was worth it

Kids will love exploring the whimsical landscape, especially walking around the spiral path and making a wish for the “fairies.” For those feeling adventurous, a short climb up the tall rock offers stunning panoramic views of the glen. A must-visit spot for a bit of outdoor fun and imagination.

A truly enchanting place! The Fairy Glen's miniature, otherworldly landscape of conical hills and winding paths feels like stepping into a storybook. It's a peaceful and magical walk that offers stunning, unique scenery unlike anywhere else on Skye. A must-visit.

I visited the mystical Faerie Glen (Fairy Glen) on the Isle of Skye for the first time in the evening on Sunday 14 July 2019. After spotting the picturesque tiered/stepped hills and rocks of the glen from the road, I pulled over and parked in a small off-the-road dirt area to the side of the road. A picture I took of my rental car with the tiered landscape and some of the rocks in the background I posted on Instagram (later deleted my account in the first half of 2021), and my rental car company (Enterprise Rent-A-Car) asked if I would send them the picture (which I did) to be included in their marketing. Still find that pretty neat as of writing this on Friday 9 June 2023. There are a couple of ridges with tiered/stepped ground and as I had not been here before I took off on a small footpath. I soon found I was on a tiered ridge one ridge over from the glen... One ridge to the north, sheep were grazing and baa-ing. In the other direction was a ridge with some rocks that looked like they might be part of the glen. As I made my way to the ridge/area with the rocks at the top, I encountered grazing sheep and found a number of their droppings. Trees and flowers were along the path to the glen, including pink foxglove. The glen area was warm in tone on my visit, partially the summer evening sun and partially the colours of the landscape. Trails and rings in the glen were very well maintained and clear to see. It was a little on the cooler side temperature-wise for the places I visited that day and I was happy I brought a sweatshirt.

Even on a rainy and cloudy day, you can enjoy Fairy Glen. You control how far you want to hike but the brown, yellow and green hue of grasses really was striking. You can't help but notice the glacial ridges formed on the small hills all over the walk. It is an active grazing area so the sheep's are everywhere minding their own business, but nevertheless they always make for a cute photo prop or just gawking at them. Be prepared to wear layers of clothing and bring your rain jacket during the winters because you could experience all weather in a few hours of walk here. The air is so fresh, the views are magical...even Alexander McQueen had his wish to be buried on this Island of Skye.

What a magical place. It's beautiful and green, lots of places to climb. There were a lot of people that day and we were still able to find trails on our own. Absolutely worth the journey.

Much cooler than I was expected, but also a lot smaller than I was expecting. It's basically a bunch of somewhat odd little hills that you can walk up, down and around all surrounding a few small groves of very nice trees, a very small (but pretty) loch, and one small stone spire that you can climb (with a bit of scrambling) called Castle Ewen. With the exception of Castle Ewen, the whole place was basically safe to let our kids (4 and 7) run around and explore, which was really nice given how some places can be with cliffs, cars and the like. You need to be just a little careful of the road that runs through the middle since cars can go by. The views from the the top of the hills are surprisingly nice. They both look down at the surrounding odd hills, loch and things inside the glen, but also the surrounding countryside. That's true even if you choose not to go up Castle Ewen. There's also a cool little fairy ring/spiral in the middle that you can walk through or just enjoy. All-in-all, it's a nice spot to go and explore more than hike. A great spot for families with kids. Maybe less impressive as more than a 30-minute stretch of the legs for others.

What an interesting find! A gorgeous and narrow ride to get here. Small, paid parking area. Quick and steep jaunt up and you're transported to another world. It was very very muddy in November. Watch out for various types of livestock waste as well. The hills were cool to see and much different than the other landscapes you'll see in the area. You'll hear soft bleats of sheep, or possibly get threatened by a ram if you stare at him too long.

Despite this being a very small area there were a surprising amount of visitors, possibly everyone hoping to get off the beaten tracks and ending up in the same place. There's actually parking for maybe 8 cars, despite the location pin on Google Maps saying 2 spots. The 'hike' really only lasts a few minutes but when the lighting is right, especially during the winter months, the area can seem quite magical.
