Great service and food, and unusually when they say the plate is hot then plate is hot, see pics. Had chicken wings for starters, they are not the crunchy kind but the flavour was great, they are not ment to be the crunchy kind, just for clarity. Daughters salad was huge as was my brisket and mash.

We had 2 Sunday dinner's, pint John Smiths & half cider £40, thought very reasonable. Dinner was excellent, lots of tender beef and huge Yorkshire pudding. Sat outside, nice atmosphere. Central in Ulverston, nice small town to visit.

The staff are very friendly and efficient. The main restaurant is at the back of the pub, it has a great vibe, the decor is very pleasant. Yes, the beef cheek is brilliant. My wife had the mussels that came with plenty of bread, plys, prawns, and chips great value. We also had the burger again, a great meal.

Friendly staff, decent prices, with a wide variety to choose from. (We didn't eat, so I haven't rated the food)

Had a fantastic meal here for my mother in laws 30th. Rib eye steak cooked perfectly, huge portions. Nothing was too much bother. Sensible prices.

Lovely venue and atmosphere, service was friendly and efficient, big portions of food. Although advertised as a special dish, the chef didn't know where the trout came from, would of been nice to know if it's fresh and local. Some of the food was over cooked but overall was nice. Great staff, will need to try again but for an earlier booking.

Yelp
Ulverston has so many pubs, it can be hard to keep up. We visited on a Saturday night - turns out a Saturday night in Ulverston is hip, hop and happening at the Farmers Arms. It was packed to the rafters; not exactly the atmosphere we were looking for, but when last orders are 11-12pm, you have to stick it out. We managed to find a table towards the back of the pub, away from the speakers, and settled in for a few drinks. The music was ramped up in volume quite dramatically at one point, but when that means the whole pub (and I mean everyone!) joins in with Living on a Prayer, who cares? Group karaoke is the way forward. I've heard good things about the food and was happy to spend my time here, though it's not a great advert for a night out in the middle of the Lake District!

Yelp
The Farmer's has many facets to it. It is a great place for Sunday Lunch, or to go for Diner, but booking is essential. The menu is varied but pricey, in the evenings, but certainly worth it. I would suggest that this is the best place in Ulverston for diner. The real ale here is well kept, but their lagers are also good. The patio, usually covered with an awning and a gas heater when it's cold, overlooks the market street, which on Thursday and Saturday is busy with stalls. The pub is also a haven for excellent morning coffee, with comfortable arm chairs in the lounge, and the patio on a sunny day. When I first wrote this I neglected to mention that the lunchtime menu is almost as scrumptious as the evening one, only more limited.

Yelp
I am writing this review just over 2 years after the other review on Qype. I can only agree with EVERYTHING the previous reviewer stated. All I would add is that in my July 2011 visit the pub's patio was beautifully decorated with thousands of gorgeous flowers. A great place to visit. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Called here for lunch 24.6.11. After reading favourable reviews and recieving a couple of recomendations I had been looking forward to dining here for some time. We normally dine out as Couple or Family, however buisness brought me to Ulverston the other day and I though I would treat myself to nice lunch. I ordered a Coffee at the bar which arrived after a while but had to find the menus myself. I also needed to enquire whether someone would come and take my order or to order at the bar.(not information offered from the busy bar staff) I ordered the 10oz Sirloin and sat down with complimentry newspaper. The couple at the next table had just been served sandwiches. They told the waitres that they had also ordered soup and that they wanted the soup served as a starter. The waitress explained that she was about to bring it. The couple explained that they wanted the items served as sepaerate courses and that they would forgoe the soup. At the this point one of the chaps from behind the bar came over with a terrible attitude pointing out that they should have explained what they required on ordering as the Farmers Arms normally serve soup and sandwiches together. A missunderstanding maybe but the aggression shown by the barman was not warranted. I also think the staff should enquire how the customers wants to be served or at least suggest how they normally do things. Anyway my steak was served, very well presented with a nicely dressed salad, onion rings, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms and seperate basket of homemade chips that were really good. The steak however would have struggled to make 8oz let alone the 10oz advertised. And even though it was well cooked the right side of medium was tough. This I would normally point out to the server when they return to see how everything is... No one came to enquire. Anyway I ate the lot and would have been more than happy if the steak had been more forgiving. Before I left I waited at the bar to give some feed back. I mentioned the steak and how I found the attitude shown to my fellow diners inappropriate. I was scoffed at. A little arguing and a more simpathic tone emerged before I left. In conclusion potentially very good food but not on my day. And maybe an extra pair of hands behind the busy bar may afford the two miserable chaps a chance to smile and remember good custom relations. I wont be back.
