We were recommended to try this place out while we were up in Traverse City for a wrestling tournament. This place did not disappoint. I love the atmosphere, the staff were extremely friendly and explained how the whole ordering process takes place. From the time we ordered our pizzas to it getting to our table was exceptionally fast. We will definitely return!

Another one of those do it yourself setups but at least at this place they inform you of it. They were all very polite but let us know we order at the bar then they deliver the food. Bartenders will take care of everything. Being by the train station is cool and the names of the beer and such. We ate outdoors which was nice. The place was packed and even though we ate outside it was still pretty loud. Pizza is good. Sausage is a bit over powering. Mushrooms were good. Cracker crust and was good in flavor. Thin crust pizza. For the beer. Most beers were good. I’d say average. The Bourbon Stout was my favorite but that is my jam. I would go back. My wife had the BBQ chicken pizza and it was good, not great. Chicken was dry. Cheese was ok. Not enough cilantro and you can see it in the picture, not a whole lot of green. They were also shy on the onion. The BBQ sauce had good flavor.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch while on an Anniversary trip to Traverse City. The atmosphere, food and beer were all great! The pub style ordering is great. Order at the bar and just a short while later the food appears. We will definitely visit again when in the area.

Google
This is an 'order food and drink at the bar' situation although the hostess will seat you. The pizzas are amazing. I tend to like traditional tomato sauce and cheese pizzas but everything I've tried is something I'd order again. I suggest getting a beer first, then ordering a pizza and not thinking too hard about the pie choice as you're likely to be happy regardless. Even the seasonal St. Patty's Day pie (corn beef, roasted carrots, cabbage and potatoes) was 'smack your momma' delicious.

This was place was an awesome find (suggested to us by someone working at a mission peninsula winery last year- shoutout to Riley) and I’m so glad we made time for it this year. We ordered a few salads, a few flatbread pizzas plus the s'mores one, some beer flights, a couple glasses of beer after trying the flights, a kids grilled cheese meal and the spinach artichoke dip. Everything was ridiculously good! We were all blown away by the flavor of everything and found the portions and prices fair. The atmosphere was unique and fun, being seated under a covered roof (old train depot) but outdoors next to tracks and a lively garden across from that. Parking was a little tight but there seemed to be a good amount of spots. It was LGBTQIA+ friendly and dog friendly (with leashes). We went with a group of four adults, two toddlers and one baby on a Thursday night and did not have to wait. They had high chairs and slings but no booster seats since the seating is benches. There were a lot of staff walking around similar to servers, but they seemed to be around mostly to grab dishes and bring out food, since we had to order both food and drinks from a bar, which is probably our only complaint, just because it made it a bit tricky for us. If we come back to town, we will likely return here.

Great place for a drink. Pizza is delicious. Highly recommend 💚💯💯

Google
Great spot for families. Plenty of good food and fun for everyone. The pizza is wonderful. My favorite is the Firebox, which is spicy but not overly so. The salads are excellent as well. Beers are well done, especially the lower ABV ones. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in TC.

My wife and I wanted pizza for supper, so based on the reviews, this was our choice. The restaurant was busy when we arrived, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a seat. When we received our text that our table was ready, we went to the hostess, who walked us to the far end of the restaurant. I couldn’t believe how much seating this place had because it is so long. We were seated at a large picnic table with another family. But that wasn’t a problem - the tables are big enough that you felt like you could still carry on a private conversation. We were given menus and told that this place operates like a pub. We’d figure out what we want and go to the bar to order it. You’d get your drinks right away, and the food would be delivered to your table later. The bartender asked if I wanted to open a tab, but we just wanted pizza and a couple of soft drinks, so I just paid for everything. We decided to order the Burlington Northern, which had pear, prosciutto, Brie and other toppings. The pizza came out fairly quickly. It had balsamic vinegar drizzled across the top. I’m not a fan of that, but there wasn’t a lot of it, so I didn’t mind. If you have soft drinks, you just go back to bar for a refill. Parking seems like it would generally be plentiful. While I enjoyed the pizza, I’d probably try some other places in town. And while we were comfortably full afterwards, if you have a hungry party, you might need to plan on more pizza. For example, a party of 4 might easily devour 3 pizzas.

Yelp
We've visited this Traverse City gem every summer on vacation since we got married, and if we could get away with going twice in one week, we would. The wood fired pizza is well worth the wait for a table, trust me. While you wait, take a stroll along the docks by the lakefront, watch some kayakers, and the time will fly. Great ambiance! Menu offerings are always fresh yet timeless, with staples like mozz, basil and tomato, and tantalizing combinations like pancetta, goat cheese, red onion, and sweet balsamic reduction. If you're a fudgie (out-of-towner) like us, check your hotel minifridge dimensions, because it reheats just fine in a microwave.

Yelp
After a very long day, and a travel day at that, our party of two stopped in for dinner. From the start, it took awhile to be noticed and get seated at the hostess station. You order at the bar with the bartender so once we looked over the menu we walked up to place our order. Drinks were provided at the bar so that part was quick. I ordered a dairy free pizza with vegan cheese and he ordered a traditional pizza. Mine arrived with no vegan cheese, which was disappointing. I was famished, tired and looking forward to our meal so instead of waiting in line again at the bar and waiting to have the order re-made, I just went with no cheese. Despite all the vegetables, the pizza had no flavor. The crust particularly was chalky and resembled the taste and texture of a water cracker. In general, staff were few and far between which given it wasn't very busy, I am not sure where they were. However I will say, when we did see someone, they were always friendly and happy to help but that just wasn't often enough. It was a hassle to get an extra napkin, drink refills took forever, so unless you were going back up to the bar yourself, forget about any actual service. The outdoor seating by the train tracks is nice, they have it lit with string lights. There is no official indoor seating but the side panels do close in the event of bad weather so I think as long as it's not severe weather, it would still be safe for dining. It was fine but I won't be rushing to return.

Yelp
Brewery #268 We came to the Filling Station one day after spending the morning hiking the trails in Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. My pops and I split a Wolverine-which is a standard pepperoni pizza with jalapenos and pineapple. They describe it as a flatbread on the menu but it looks like a normal circular pizza. The pizza was a nice combination of sweet and heat. We also each got a flight of 4 beers which you come in these cool little train flight boards. My 4 beers were: Iron Junction (stout), Under the Trestle (Mango Kolsch), Walla Walla (American IPA), Watch Hill (Hazy IPA). Everything was solid but I'm always partial to the Hazys. We sat outside under the patio and I never actually saw the inside. There was a hostess stand before the patio, they sat you at a table then you go up to the bar to order food and beer. Food and beer were both solid and I'd go again if I was in the area.

Yelp
Food is great enjoy the different items for wood fired pizza , fig salad is the best. Service is friendly, wait staff always smiling . Love Ambiance of the train station . At my age 62 I hate wasting money on bad food . This is our goto place when we hit Traverse City for a week long break . Great food , excellent service , outstanding Brews , and love the Train Station .

Yelp
Outdoor dining (very seasonal can't imagine it in 15° below (lol)) Old train station Brewery with many options Decent size menu - mostly flat bread pizzas (many choices - very tasty) Salads and appetizers as well Dog friendly Kid friendly

Frances B.

Yelp
When we arrived, Amanda greeted us and told us 15-20 min wait. She asked for my name but I gave my husband's because it's easier for people to hear correctly. She affably said she's curious to know mine and when I told her, she remarked it was a lovely name. She then remembered both our names and called my name. We laughed and joked so comfortably that the server assumed we were regulars even though it was our first time - Amanda was just that helpful and that warm and friendly. We were seated much faster than expected at a picnic type table but soon asked if we wanted to move to a high top in the bar area. It was nice to be closer to the bar but the windows were sealed there so it might be nicer on some days to be at the tables. Not a bad seat anywhere, really. I ordered the Munich style pils which I loved and husband enjoyed the lager. You order at the counter but food is brought to the table and we consistently had various servers stop by to check in. It was remarkably good service which we hadn't expected at a such a casual place. The Caesar salad was ample and absolutely delicious. Excellent garlicky flavor, nice crunchy croutons, and crisp refreshing romaine. Pizza came quickly and we both liked our halves. Mine was listed as salty but seemed to just be salty from the olives which is expected so it was a perfect amount of salty for me. Would come here all the time if we lived in town!

Yelp
It's located in a historic railway depot in Traverse City which is kinda cool. They have wood fired flat bread pizzas and they were delicious. I tried the cider and my boyfriend had a flight of beer, both were good. The place has outdoor protected seating with heaters. They have self service water and you order at the bar. Food is delivered via a number system to the table.

Kerri E.

Yelp
Cute depot with covered outdoor dining. Picnic tables Servers bring your menus and you order in the center. They have flatbread pizzas, salads and appetizers. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips and pretzels. I had the Cock O' the walk flatbread and lemonade. The pizza was amazing. The servers brought out the food and were friendly. Kids get little play dough containers. They have lots of beer options and Coke products but not Coke Zero.

Kerry F.

Yelp
A nice stop for lunch. I appreciate the covered (and heated) patio. We were quickly greeted and seated. Ordered at the bar and had our beers and pizza shortly afterwards. Everything was good and we made short work of our pizza. The firebox wasn't too spicy and I really enjoyed the small diced pineapple vs the big chunks that you typically get. The only odd thing was a few days later I got a notice from our credit card company asking if we left a 98% tip (um no) I called and spoke to the manager who informed me that this alert happens frequently for their location and not to worry about it. I did verify that we hadn't been overcharged but it was still odd.

Kristin H.

Yelp
We've been here several times. The atmosphere is our favorite thing about this place. It's an old train station with outdoor eating. Ordering is pub style. Pizza was good too, has a thin crust, and some interesting pizza's. We each ordered our own and we're happy with it. Beer choices are good too, enjoyed the Porter.

Melanie M.

Yelp
2nd time we've been here. Family friendly. Nice kids menu. Love that they have pears as an option. Pizzas are small. Not enough to split for 2. Stump jumper pizza was ok - I expected a lot more variety of mushrooms. Bourbon Stout was strong and tasty.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Great stop. Great food. These guys have specialized and that focus has made excellent pizzas and sides. Best salad I've had in a while. And everything tasted fresh. Love how they do almost outdoors with heaters in the middle of a snowstorm

Gretchen T.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding atmosphere here at the Filling Station Microbrewery. It was a colder day when we came, so we were nervous about the outdoor sitting, but the heat dispensers were incredible! We got an amazing view of the water and were warm enough to take our jackets off. We were also surprised that despite having long communal tables, we felt separated from the family at the other end. Not only that but the food tasted super fresh. From the first bite of cheese pizza (which they happily made plain), I was blown away. It tasted like it was made minutes ago with only the freshest of ingredients. We also tried the s'mores pizza for dessert -- highly recommend. It took a bit longer than our other pizzas, but it was worth the wait. The marshmallows on top were a great addition and really made every bite worth it. Even though they didn't have the typical wait staff set-up, all the employees were super nice and accommodating. You order at the bar, and they give your table a number, so the employees can find you when your food is done. Despite this, we were able to ask them for boxes when they came around, and they helped us immediately. We will definitely be returning.

Linda B.

Yelp
The location was a RR Depot and the bar that had old distillery doors. We shared a pepperoni pizza, great thin crust and I always order my pizzas extra well done. Fab with hot honey.

Minna M.

Yelp
We were so excited to find this place in TC. It was a great dining experience! Once we were seated, the hostess explained that you can order at the bar area and the food will be brought to your table. Food came out pretty quickly. I had read other reviews how you could order different kinds of pizza on each half. We ordered 1/2 Stoker and 1/2 Spartan. Delicious! We also got an order of the hummus for an appetizer. The beer was good! Pizza was good! Atmosphere was relaxing and outdoors (covered). Despite ordering at the bar, people came around and asked if you needed refills or anything else. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone coming to TC.

Claire M.

Yelp
The Filling Station is one popular spot, and I can see why! My husband and I tried to stop by here on a Sunday night and were shut out by the hour-long wait. We opted to come back the next day (Monday night) and were immediately seated for an early dinner. This is a casual spot with all outdoor seating, which was perfect for the beautiful summertime weather we were enjoying that day. You order everything at the bar - food, drinks - and they bring it to you once it's ready. I love that they offer flights, since they have sooo many beers, ciders, etc on tap! I got a flight of 4 drinks and we ordered the Spinach artichoke dip to split. Delicious! We also ordered a pizza - and since we were stuck on 2 different types, we just ordered half and half, which was perfect. The pizza is thin, like a flatbread, but so good with fresh ingredients! I would definitely come back if I find myself in the Traverse City area again!

Ahlennah B.

Yelp
Might be the best pizza I've had in TC so far. And I love that you can order a half n half to try out more flavors. That's not always the case with speciality flavor pizzas like this. We got half Wolverine, half Burlington Northern. Both were excellent and went well together as well. We also got a Station Salad which was fresh & crisp (and plenty to share). Also sampled the strawberry beer which was quite pleasant and perfect for the hot day we were having. This place is in an old train station, so lots of patio seating along the tracks and a good view of Boardman Lake. Order at the bar. Service is friendly and quick. Restrooms are clean and easy to find. Parking is free and plentiful. I'd come back here anytime.

Zachary W.

Yelp
The pizza, omg, the pizza. There's a delicious pie to satiate basically every palate imaginable. Our favorite was the Stoker with sausage, wood-fired veggies and a deliciously spicy kick. Awesome beer selection with friendly, knowledgeable staff to help pick the right one for you, if needed. While you enjoy the neat indoor/outdoor floor plan and good vibes, save room for s'mores pizza for dessert and thank me later!

John M.

Yelp
Had the artichoke dip with chips and a flatbread pizza. Both were delicious. You order at the bar, but the servers bring your food to you. The service is extremely friendly. The menu is limited to a wide variety of flatbread pizzas, four salads and two appetizers. But that's plenty. I forgot to count, but they have around 20 different beers; each one has a short paragraph describing it in the menu. I stuck with the pilsner, which was great. We ate and drank outside, under a canopy, on a warm September day. It was really lovely. The outdoor tables are dog-friendly.

Joshua W.

Yelp
What a fantastic jewel of a brewery and restaurant! Outstanding beers (had to bring done growlers back to Illinois with me), really tasty pizzas. The community garden and play area nearby are great for taking the kids if you need to wait for a table.

Dave C.

Yelp
Decent little place for some beers and pizza. Outdoor seating only which was nice. We had a short wait but they have a seating area with a bar for people waiting. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is the long time to get our food after ordering. The pizza was very good just seemed to take long to get it.

Caroline S.

Yelp
What else do u do with a retired train depot but turn it into a microbrewery and pizza joint. This place is amazing!!! We sat outside on the patio area as we has a dog with us. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and seated. The pup was offered water and we were given menus. Ordered for both beers and pizzas were taken at the bar and then delivered to the table. The prices are very reasonable fpr both beers and pizza. The pizzas were delicious and very flavorful. The dining room was open and receptive to families with young children as well as pup friendly. The staff went out of their way to get us and interact with our dog. If ur in Traverse City, MI area, this is a MUST SEE!!! If time allows to the pedal bar as well

Catherine B.

Yelp
Great artisan, thin-crust pizza at a former train station with modern rustic ambiance! ordering is pub-style, no formal waitstaff but order at the bar and get your table number, food is then brought to your table. my family and I came here and ordered two pizzas and an order of chips w/ spinach artichoke dip to share. amounts were perfect, food was hot and fresh. my only ding is the time it took for our food to arrive--families that came after us got their food earlier. still, the place was clean and staff was friendly.

Sophie B.

Yelp
Consistently the best pizza in traverse city. Such a fun atmosphere! The cock 'o the walk pizza is the best! They also have my favorite Caesar salad in town!

Emily C.

Yelp
If I could give more stars I would! The ambiance is awesome seeing as it is an old train station. We sat on the patio, overlooking the tracks and it was lovely. I really enjoyed the pub style ordering as well. We had the Belgian triple beer (hubby liked it, was too floral for me) and the Squeeze Me Sour beer(delish!!!). We ordered The Rocket flatbread with no roasted tomato and we added prosciutto to it. Seriously amazing. We said we should've ordered two it was so good. If you like goat cheese and balsamic reduction I HIGHLY recommend. We will definitely be back!

Sabra Chicki D.

Yelp
Such great pizza and salad and not to forget the apple crisp pizza for desert. Wow. I never knew. Also dog friendly so great for us. Lots of beer to chose from.

Tonya H.

Yelp
Pizza was delicious. Great choice of craft beers. Loved the atmosphere. Kid friendly gave us a deck of uno cards for teens to play. Service was efficient.

Krista T.

Yelp
They've enclosed their patio for winter and it's beautiful and warm!! Our favorite pizzas are the Wolverine, rocket, Memphis Line and the s'mores pizza for dessert. All the beers are great on tap and the salads are really good. Great variety of everything. Super friendly service! They gave all 6 kids in our party their own playdoh!

Emily W.

Yelp
We wanted a lighter meal after driving all day and decided to check this spot out because we saw they had wood oven pizza so we knew it was going to be thinner. For a Thursday night we waited 45 minutes before we got a table but we didn't mind because they had a place where you could sit and grab a beer and appetizers. The bartender was really knowledgeable. When we got to our table we ordered 2 pizzas and a dessert pizza between the four of us and it was perfect amount of food. The view was also fantastic. We definitely would come back and recommend!

Marin C.

Yelp
Had the good fortune to go to a co-worker's retirement shindig here. Good times. Like the upstairs room, very nice. I liked the BBQ chicken flatbread, yum!

Amy B.

Yelp
We've been here once before while visiting family and enjoyed it a lot. This time, we were staying nearby before our flight and wanted a fun place to have dinner. When we arrived, they said it'd be a 30-45 minute wait, but mentioned that we could have beer while we were waiting. A hostess walked us to an area where we could hang out until it was time to be seated. The beer was great and the staff was really friendly. When we were seated, we ordered two pizzas and a salad to share - all were delicious! The ambiance was chill and casual. Definitely recommend this place.

Tammy D.

Yelp
It has been awhile since we have been here but once again it was very good. All outdoor seating is enclosed with hard plastic. No indoor seating which we would have preferred. You order at the counter and the food is served at the table. The Caesar salad was very good but there was too much dressing for me. Next time, I will order light dressing. The pizza was very good.

Megan G.

Yelp
Awesome local pizza place with beers. Pizza crust is thin and crispy so if that is what you are looking for in pizza, this is your place. Any and all things on the menu are delicious, and if you are stopping by, definitely be sure to check out the s'mores dessert pizza.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Food was ok, service relatively non existent since you have to walk up/order (not a complaint but not really service). Tables WAY too close together given that there are a lot of screaming kids!

Chuck B.

Yelp
Service very good. Beer selection was great and we found some good ones to try. And the pizza was awesome and one of the best caesar salads I've ever had.

Mel W.

Yelp
Good food. They steal drinks. Manager Sheila was a taking away drinks before they were finished.

Abe W.

Yelp
I will always love their Flatbread Pizzas. They're really good. The waiters are really kind too. And it's not noisy at all. But it's peaceful, and the scenery is nice. I recommend getting a table outside because you can see the nature and these trees next to the restaurant which is cool to look at while sitting there and eating good food.

Catherine C.

Yelp
Visited traverse city for the first time for a quick day trip and hopped over to the filling station for a quick dinner and cider. This is a fun place that's open year round! All the staff were friendly and the pizza was great! I love that I could do a half and half pizza so I could try more than one thing! Definitely recommend this spot for a hip, but off the beaten path brewery. Some locals told me there's usually an hour+ wait in the summer though so plan accordingly!

Robert S.

Yelp
Nice hole in the wall/old train depot The winter is the best time to get in without waiting for an hour or more Yummy pizza and a great beer selection Don't forget to try the ice cream bars

Tiffani B.

Yelp
We had the spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips. It was good. The conductor salad was really good. We also had the stump jumpers flatbread and it was excellent. Fun atmosphere and the service was good.

Kelly C.

Yelp
On a recent trip through Michigan, we stopped here for a quick dinner, and it did not disappoint! The service was very quick, and there was plenty of seating and a fun atmosphere. My mom has been gluten free for a really long time, and it can be challenging to find quality pizza and Italian for her. We were really glad to see some gluten free crust on this menu! She said it was delicious and she wishes she had it closer to home. The standard pizzas (flatbreads) were also really delicious. Crispy and flavorful. We didn't sample the beer, but there was a wide variety. We will definitely be stopping in again the next time we are passing through!

Kaitlin W.

Yelp
We stopped in here for lunch on a recent getaway to Traverse City. There are countless restaurants to choose from in the area, but we wanted something a little off the beaten path. There was plenty of ample parking available, and we didn't wait for a table. After being seated and placing our order at the bar, we saw the place get busier and busier while anticipating our food. There are a lot of foodie & brew-themed bike and kayak tours that stop here, so I suggest visiting right before or after the lunch rush. Timing is everything when eating out on a beautiful summer weekend in northern Michigan! The beers and hard ciders are what they're known for, so we tried a few different pints. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and will even make suggestions if you're not sure what to choose. The menu has an extensive selection of unique flatbread pizzas with interesting ingredients and flavor profiles. We started with The Station Salad, which was so bright and refreshing! Soon after, The Rocket pizza was dropped off at our table and my husband and I just looked at each other like "WOW!" It was so delicious without being heavy and overwhelming like some pizzas make you feel. The savory roasted garlic and tomatoes combined with fresh goat cheese, Parmesan, and arugula... all topped with a balsamic reduction-- if I could create a pizza of my own, this would be it! Unbelievable! This was our first time visiting The Filling Station and will definitely not be our last!

John N.

Yelp
We were visiting our kids (October 2020) and found the Filling Station Microbrewery on Yelp and decided to give it a try. There are outside heated tents for dining. They have a great beer selection and the food, I had pizza and my wife had a salad was very good. The service was good. You order at the bar and they bring it to your table. Going back and forth for additional beers was a bummer! The next time we visit The Filling Station will be a stop!

Theresa J.

Yelp
Probably our favorite place while visiting TC. Was recommended by several friends and I would do the same. Food, service and atmosphere was all great. Decent cider and beer. They offer drinks and appetizers while you wait and tab transfers. This is only pizza and salad place and they do both well.

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
Always make a stop here while we're in traverse city! Amazing food and amazing beer! The employees are so helpful. Such a cool place. Kid friendly! They give the kids playdough instead of crayons. Game changer!!!

Carrie J.

Yelp
Great hip atmosphere, great for families, great for beer drinkers...but definitely lacking on being filling, which probably isn't a bad thing for most. Pizzas lacked flavor and toppings and the crust is really thin. Definitely not $17 pizzas. Definitely not worth the 45 minute wait and slow service.

Brandon M.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a local for great beer and food. My friends and I already had a big lunch so we just went for drinks. No reservations, first come-first served. Outdoor seating only. It would have been 30 minutes to 1 hour wait for a party of 3 if we were dining but since it was drinks only we were able to be immediately seated at the bar. The beer flights were good and served on a train flight to help you "track" of the beers you were sampling. Even though we didn't eat, the flatbread pizzas and salads around us looked fantastic. Nice atmosphere of a restored old train station. Outdoor high/low and bar seating. Wi-Fi (with a password I never got or found). Free Lot parking. Busy on the weekend so expect a wait. Very good service. Clean restrooms. I would return.

Ava K.

Yelp
Not good, dessert pizza was completely burnt on the bottom. Pizza is just average. Service was good

Beth F.

Yelp
One of the best microbreweries I have visited. Typically when i order a flight there are a couple good beers among a bunch of not great beers. Here - they were all good. Pizza took a long time but it was good once it finally arrived. Definitely worth a visit. Outside seating is available.
