Great location, nice rooms, indifferent staff, and an all-out money grab.
We stayed 1 night on a Sunday night, mid-September, which is the beginning of the off-season for the Glacier area.
The location is great - right in the heart of downtown Whitefish. Our room was larger and nice. Front desk staff was both unknowledgeable and unhelpful. The grab and go breakfast area was not staffed.
Room rate when I booked was $499 a night, which please, this is Whitefish Montana in the off season, but my wife and I wanted to stay somewhere nice, so we swallowed hard and booked. Upon checkout, our bill was $623. $499 for the room, $55 in taxes (11%, what can you do?), and then $70 for Assessments & Fees. When I asked what the $70 was for, the front desk person had no idea. She called her manager who came out, but did not talk to me, leaving the front desk person to mumble something about the business center and shuttle. I was annoyed that I felt they had not disclosed these extra fees, but when I went back to my reservation, they were in fact disclosed buried in the smallest of small print.
"1% Community Sustainability Fund (voluntary); 1% Averill Foundation Contribution (voluntary); 12% Hotel Services Fee"
They added 14%, including 2 voluntary fees, which were not voluntary at all, since I had no opportunity to opt out.
Bottom line, $623 per night on a Sunday night off-season in Whitefish Montana. Unless you want to participate in their money grab, avoid this hotel and by extension, all Averill properties.
