Pretty bad. Just some old desks and an abacus. Yes, they're old. But just having old things doesn't make a good museum. There is no information about anything inside; so I asked. The more I learned the less impressed I was. Not even a real school in the western European sense. In England we would call it a monastery. So yeah very unimpressed that the "1st school" was not even a proper school. Fully not impressed in the slightest and I don't recommend to anybody.

A museum I can see more potential to despite it's small size which of course was the reason for the importance. The personnel at that time was a very kind and personable man Cris. He also suggested me to visit the church across which was so beautiful

By the time I visited the museum it was partially closed for renovation. It is more like a historical milestone then a museum. Frankly, not much to see here. The great thing about it were the sights, the location the surroundings. A beautiful place to visit in the old side of town. Also the gentleman selling tickets at the entrance was really kind, helpful, giving us a a small but pleasant tour of this tiny museum, with a lot of valuable history behind. So if you got some thirty minutes to invest in visiting, your curiousity will be rewarded.

FIRST: THE ENTRANCE TO THE MUSEUM IS NOT AT THE SCHOOL'S DOOR, BUT NEXT GATE TO THE RIGHT OF THE MAIN GATE. There is a huge sign outside the gate, but the message is not very clear and many people miss it. This being said, we had an outstanding experience, a real dive in Romanian history and culture. The guide, who had advanced studies in religion and history, was extremely competent and he diligently answered all our questions.

The First Romanian School is located in Brașov, specifically in the courtyard of a church. It is said to have visiting hours that include the interior, but unfortunately, I couldn’t access it due to discrepancies in the schedule—a problem I noticed other visitors encountered as well. The courtyard’s walls add to the charm of the site, harmonizing beautifully with both the church and the school. I believe this landmark is a must-visit, as it allows you to step onto the grounds where education in Romania first began.

Very interesting experience! We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide. Learnt a lot about the history of Romanian school and first books The guide was friendly and held the whole tour in English. However, we felt that the whole tour went on too quickly and the guide was very rushed, moving from subject to subject almost immediately and without leaving any time for questions

Such an interesting museum! ✅ Very kind and funny guide - many detailed explanations, presented to the children's liking. Tickets cannot be bought in advance. No appointments are made for groups. Maybe change this rule, it would be easier for groups. Visited November 2023

A massively disappointing and annoying experience. We paid an exorbitant 20 lei each for access to just two tiny rooms. This is touted as "Romania's first school" yet the exhibits have nothing to do with that: a few school benches and some printing equipment, all relatively modern, and in a sterile modernised interior. The only part related to the school's supposed centuries-long history is a leaflet with some extremely brief information. Apparently, this is only a part of the regular exhibition, as the upstairs part is being renovated. I inquired why they charged the full price for only half the museum, and it turned out that they usually charge 40 lei for entry, which is honestly insane. No other museum we visited in Romania cost nearly this much. We learned nothing, and overpaid for it. Give it a wide berth. EDIT: What an embarrassing attempt at damage control in the museum's replies to negative reviews. Sure, you don't compete with other museums, but maybe you should, because you stand no chance in any comparison. Also, thanks for pointing out that we could've spent those 20 lei each on coffee, which, for this much, would be the best cup we could get in town. And don't worry, next time is not happening.
