The Fish Hotel (Broadway, Cotswolds) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s a country-house hotel in concept, set as it is on a hilly 400-acre Cotswolds estate, but the Fish Hotel has some surprises up its sleeve. Along with a classic farmhouse and some outlying cottages are a handful of eco-modernist treehouses and some rustic-minimalist mobile huts, and the interiors throughout are stylish and contemporary, with little regard for typical country-house pomp. And along with an afternoon tea accompanied by creative cocktails, and a bar serving Hereford Angus sliders, there’s a highly regarded restaurant, Hook, serving a suitably seafood-focused menu under the direction of chef Martin Burge." - Tablet Hotels

The Fish Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Set on a 500-acre estate near Broadway in the Cotswolds, this quirky country retreat mixes manor-house charm (including converted stables) with playful, contemporary touches such as an outdoor bar strung with fairy lights and a scatter of 'Hideaway Huts' down a wooded slope. The huts—one named “Fairy”—are cosy and romantic, featuring a lounge with a stocked minibar and wood fire, a skylit bedroom with a plush bed and roll-top bath overlooking the woodland, a swinging loveseat and a two-person hot tub; privacy can be limited if you dress in front of certain windows. The overall vibe is aimed at romantic weekenders but is also family- and friend-friendly, with warm, personalised service from welcoming hosts. Design can feel rough or kitsch in places, yet the hotel’s bold, different approach and relative affordability (about $300/night including breakfast, 66 rooms) make it a refreshing alternative to pricier local rivals; on-site extras include long countryside walks, easy drives to pretty villages and a cheeky “press for booze” intercom for drinks in the hot tub."

I recently stayed here for my birthday with my two young children and our dog, and it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The hotel was spotless, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was both child- and dog-friendly. We immediately felt welcome and comfortable, which made our stay so enjoyable. The hotel goes above and beyond for dogs — with beds provided both in the room and at dinner, water bowls and treats available throughout, and lots of useful information about local walks and activities. We enjoyed the on-site nature trail and were lucky enough to spot deer along the way. There were lovely touches for the whole family, from the pick ’n’ mix station that delighted my son to the wine vending machine for adults. Overall, a beautiful hotel with excellent attention to detail. We are already planning to return next year and I would highly recommend it.

Sometimes I wonder if I only ever give good reviews….perhaps it’s down to luck or great research…who knows 🤷‍♀️. However, I do know The Fish absolutely deserves our 5 star review. ||We stayed over the August bank holiday weekend with Cooper, our rather excitable cocker spaniel. We only experienced excellent friendly service and beautiful food (the breakfast and the mussels were particularly good). The cocktail menu is a bit different and there was a delicious and thoughtful acknowledgement of our birthdays waiting for us. ||Our Hideaway hut was perfect. There are two which are dog friendly and Cooper was totally safe in the outside space. The huts are really well appointed with so many little touches like cows and alternative milk in the fridge, complimentary nibbles, a fan and beautiful toiletries. The shower room and toilet area is very small but hopefully most people aren’t sending too much time in there!||The Fish is genuinely dog friendly if that is important to you. He was spoilt rotten, a dog bed already in place by our table for our evening meals and a sausage (or 2) at breakfast (subject to approval from the human parents 😀)||We have now stayed at Foxhill Manor and The Fish and can say with confidence that we will be back very soon.

The Fish is really special and every aspect of the experience was exquisite. We spent the night but wish we had booked for longer. The place is stunning and the nature and the surroundings striking! We were visiting as a couple and celebrated our anniversary and the staff were incredible in making this time really special and memorable for us. Everyone we interacted with was so lovely, welcoming and helpful. The stay felt like a retreat and so peaceful. The restaurant and the main hub area have everything you need and each part of the estate has amazing views and nature walks. Our suite was gorgeous, furnished and decorated with great attention to detail. The bathroom was spacious and very modern, tastefully furnished but still functional. the food was so tasty and fresh - a generous breakfast buffet in addition to an a la carte menu. All local ingredients too! We loved everything about our stay.

Stayed for one night for my birthday. Wish we had been able to stay for longer!|The hotel is STUNNING. As soon as we entered reception we were blown away with the gorgeous decor. Staff were available right away to check in. Florin gave us lots of information and was incredibly friendly and welcoming.|We were directed to our Hideaway Hut which was called ‘Puck’. It was a beautiful cabin with a roll top bath, log fire inside and out and a hot tub.|As it was my birthday, I was kindly gifted a card from the team, some beautiful chocolates and a £50 wine voucher for dinner (lovely touch!).|They provided wood and matches to light the fires as well as indoor and outdoor footwear, towels for the hot tub etc. They literally couldn’t think of anything else! |Dinner in the Hook was one of the best meals out we have had in a long time. The mussels especially were amazing and I definitely recommend the cod Kiev.|Staff in the restaurant were very attentive and helpful, same goes for breakfast the next morning.|We will definitely be back to stay again, for longer next time!

Stayed here for a 40th Anniversary weekend recently, and overall, we enjoyed our time in the Cotswolds. ||However, as nice as the Fish and also the wider estate is, there are some quite disappointing elements to the experience. Our hideout cabin was great. They're small and quirky being set in the woodland, but have what you need for a few days away. The hot tubs in little spaces attached are nice, with f8repits and swing seat within the space. Lighting around hot tub would be better if it wasn't so bright, and also, some kind of canopy might be a good addition, to enable their use even if it's raining. Apart from that, no complaints on these spaces, it was good.||However, where things fall down is in service and food options, especially at breakfast. More than once we ordered something, and yet, it appeared it was completely forgotten. A half hour wait to be served a dessert isn't great, though to the waitresses credit, we did receive an apology. Main meals during this occasion were quite poor too, which didn't help make for the best experience overall.||Breakfast is where things seem to need major improvement though. Our first morning cooked breakfast was all a bit cold, and it just had the feel of being a "that'll do" kind of effort. Bacon maybe slightly undercooked and not hot, poached eggs that were stone cold and a thin slice of black pudding that was served as a semi circular piece the size of half a biscuit. If they were low on it, I'd rather be told that, than be served such a woeful piece. It was pointless. The second morning we decided to skip the English option and chose eggs benedict. This came served on poor quality muffins, not toasted, so doughy and unpleasant, with a slice of cold ham slapped over the muffins below the eggs, which does nothing to help cooked eggs retain heat. It was without doubt the worst eggs benedict I've ever had.||All this might seem like nit picking, but when you choose to stay somewhere on a bed and breakfast basis, the morning meal is a significant part of it. People may have planned a busy day ahead or might have to travel some distance, but whatever, when a stay costs what the Fish is charging, it really needs to meet the minimum standard this place is trying to convey it sets. Unfortunately, it didn't meet those standards for us. ||On that basis, if we visited the Cotwolds again, we'd likely choose an alternative place to stay, because there are numerous options to pick from.

We stayed 2 nights in a fantastic hideaway hut, beautifully equipped and thought through with great lighting, soft furnishings, mini bar and superb cleanliness. ||Breakfast and dinner in Hook restaurant both excellent with a great view of the busy kitchen and delicious food with quality ingredients. ||The site overall is wonderful with loads of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax and explore. ||However. ||Service is just not good enough for a premium hotel. For context, 2 nights with dinner came to over £1,250. First world problems but frankly it’s not acceptable to arrive in the bar at 19:00 and not get a drink until 19:35 despite speaking to 3 members of staff would be inexcusable at a Premier Inn. Pretty much every interaction was slow. It’s not on to be well into your starter before the wine arrives and then for half the drinks order to be missing. ||It’s not a lack of staff, there are lots of them. It just felt chaotic and disorganised. I get that we’re here to relax, but at £1,250 for 2 nights, if I want to relax with a drink in my hand I think that’s my prerogative.

The Fish is a lovely comfortable hotel, our room was lovely and the setting beautiful. The only thing that we felt let it down was the food which whilst OK wasn’t really what we expected and lacked a bit of thought / care or maybe finesse ? and didn’t quite match everything else about the hotel. This was the only disappointing element to our otherwise wonderful stay.

Absolute amazing service here at the fish. Spent time here for a birthday and truly experienced impeccable service and a quality experience. The adventure at the Farncombe estate is not one to miss especially the clay shooting with Callum. He is truly exceptional and is super passionate on his role, with plenty of expertise to share and much patience. I’d recommend the fish to anyone looking to have a lovely peaceful time away. Jane at reception is lovely and all staff are generally very welcoming and helpful!

Yelp
The lounge at the Fish has the most amazing, undiscovered pastry chef. Her name is Abbey, and she is completing her apprenticeship. Her Lemon Meringue is worth flying from NYC to London and traveling to Fish to taste. In my 45 years I have never had a better dessert and that is saying a lot! Brilliant!!! Abbey is a talent - the world should be watching.

Yelp
Great location just outside of Broadway but close to everything. Fantastic setting and amazing views in the sprawling Farncombe estate. A regret of our trip was not having enough time to really explore the grounds more. Small but smartly decorated suite that somehow managed to be modern, cozy, luxurious, and evocative of the rural throwback fishing theme. Excellent amenities including Cotswold woolen blankets in the rooms and high end soaps and shampoos. Great, hearty breakfast service. High quality of food and service at dinner too. Impeccable service at the front desk. Sadly, with all they're doing right, there were still a few rough spots: Iffy wifi that only worked in the lobby. Activities that were highly touted on their website and were a main reason for our staying there, only to be booked solid all weekend. (They had slots for a paltry six individuals per hour, limited hours, and some of them were age restricted. Maybe some extra capacity could be added on busy weekends?) Rooms with no closets, and very little storage at all. (That was common for the rooms we booked on our trip, though. This would not be a concern for a couple on a weekend getaway, but it was challenging for a family on a longer vacation.) Overall, however, we loved our stay here, would recommend it and would return ourselves.
