Today I had a meal at this place. To be fair, I had already been here before just for coffee and dessert, and that visit was great: the matcha latte was delicious and the carrot cake was absolutely exquisite.
Unfortunately, today’s experience did not quite live up to that memory.
When we arrived, we were seated in a very nice spot. Observing the overall dynamic, though, it felt like the place might be slightly understaffed.
My chai latte, to start with, did not disappoint in terms of flavor, it was genuinely delicious. However, it arrived more lukewarm than hot. The hot chocolate was also very good, and that’s about all there is to say about the drinks.
Now for the interesting part: the food.
We ordered a British breakfast. I can confidently say the best part of the plate was the toas, truly delicious and nicely crispy. The sautéed mushrooms also added a pleasant touch. The egg and sausages were fairly unremarkable, nothing to write home about. What was genuinely unfortunate, however, were the beans. They tasted exactly like the cheapest canned beans you might pick up at a random potraviny.
As for the other dish, Eggs Royal: the pancakes were probably the only redeeming element. They were fluffy, though somewhat bland. The mashed avocado didn’t taste fresh at all; it had a very generic flavor. The eggs, however, were quite disastrous. The whites were far too firm, when you order poached eggs, you expect something soft (not raw, of course), but delicate. Instead, the yolk was excessively runny in a rather unpleasant way. While a yolk should indeed flow, this one felt more like an unfortunate accident than a culinary intention. Quite possibly the worst poached egg I’ve had.
The salmon was also surprisingly bland, barely recognizable as salmon, really, just a vaguely fish-flavored piece of something.
And finally, the worst part of the dish: the attempt at a creamy sauce. It manages to deliver the most unpleasant finishing touch imaginable, soaking the entire plate. I had to remove most of it because it was overwhelmingly heavy, cloying, and frankly unappetizing. All it accomplishes is leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth and a very heavy stomach from something you didn’t even enjoy. It almost feels like an effort to compensate for the dish’s lack of flavor by drowning everything in a mayonnaise-like cream.
In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend this place if you’re looking to have a pleasant time drinking COFFEE and enjoying DESSERT.
If, however, you’re planning to come for breakfast or brunch, I’m afraid I cannot recommend repeating this particular experience.
