The Fleece

We had Christmas Day lunch at The Fleece for the first time. We really enjoyed the whole experience. We were warmly welcomed at the door by the friendly staff and offered a glass of fizz. The tables were all decorated beautifully and there was a festive atmosphere. The service was very efficient and all the food was beautifully presented and delicious. We had preordered and had place cards with our choices on. One of us is gluten free and this was made clear with every course by the staff which was reassuring. The Christmas crackers were good quality and the cloth santa hat at each place instead of a paper one was a nice touch, plus we got to take them home with us! Overall, it was a fantastic experience and the staff did an amazing job. We all had a brilliant Christmas lunch, many thanks.

Another fantastic meal! We booked the private room for a large pre-Christmas family gathering, and it didn’t disappoint. ||The service was super friendly, and the food was outstanding. Despite a tricky booking with multiple allergies and changes to the set menu, everything was accommodated with a smile. The foot was really good and everyone enjoyed it.||For the first time, we also stayed overnight. The room was lovely, spacious, and very comfortable.||We brought our 4 legged family member and the dog bed and bag with treats and a ball was so sweet. ||We also had breakfast the next day, and that veggie haggis is absolutely delicious – always a highlight.||Thanks again – we’ll be booking again soon!||Happy Christmas 🎄

We have visited The Fleece several times but have never eaten there. Our waitress Fia was amazing so happy and friendly but most importantly she knew everything about the menu and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also really good and tasty, the only criticism was that the plates were cold.

We had a really lovely meal…great food and a fab atmosphere! The bar staff were friendly and really efficient on a busy evening. Our table waitress was attentive and charming…unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she was an absolute credit to The Fleece! Unfortunately our evening was ruined by Daniel…he was extremely rude and dismissive towards us. This is such a shame as aside from him I would have rated 5 stars.

This was possibly our 8th or even 10th time of staying at The Fleece and yet again they did not disappoint. It’s absolutely lovely to be greeted by one of the managers (Sam Stanley) upon arrival and have him be genuinely happy to see us! We got our usual room, which was warm and comfortable, a fabulous walk-in shower, very quiet as it’s away from the main part of the restaurant and bar. Breakfast and evening snacks were delicious, the coffee was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Fleece also has excellent wi-fi and streaming, which is important when it’s pouring with rain outside and you don’t fancy getting soaked looking for entertainment elsewhere in town. ||Sam Stanley is a real gem too. Outgoing, attentive, passionate about his work, especially the food and wines the hotel serves, and a lot of fun to chat with. This is not to say the other manager(s) are not as good – we simply haven’t interacted with them as much. We’re always very happy to see him when we check in.

Took visiting friends for Sunday lunch. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a to eat but this was a great experience. Served by Jess from NZ who was just fantastic. Her enthusiasm and warmth when saying hello and talking us through the special board, was a great start to the meal. We all remarked that it was so refreshing to experience such great energy. Food was delicious and the simple but very welcome touch of coming around with more veg and Yorkshires was really appreciated. A lovely Team, good food and friendly atmosphere made for an excellent meal experience.

Twelve of us went for lunch to celebrate my mothers 96th birthday. Had a terrible lunch. We had pre ordered the food. Half the meals came out then we had to wait for 10-15 minutes for most of the other meals. The last meal ( a rare steak) didn’t come out for about 30 minutes. Pork belly came out cold. It was sent back - it came back like warm. Chips on two meals were under cooked, chicken on the Chicken Milanese was over cooked. Had to ask three times for the pre ordered dessert to be brought out. All in all a very disappointing experience. Definitely cannot recommend.

What can I say? A wonderful evening with my work friends. The food was very tasty with not a single complaint, and Daniel was on top form with his entertaining charm. Highly recommend!

The place is popular and festive. The appetizer was interesting with sweet sauce to go with terrine. The main focus on the duck with lots of mashed potatoes. The cheese dessert offers various flavors. The host was friendly and provided helpful suggestions.

Enjoyed the lamb chops with potatoes. Pretty tasty. Pricing was ok and portions seemed about right size. Friendly service but a bit slow, although I think that's more of a cultural pace for the region. Overall - good.

The Fleece likes think of itself as Witney's premier eating establishment, and indeed it does have a lot to offer... The food is thoughtful, tasty and well delivered. Is it anything extraordinary though? Well no, not really. The attitude in the Fleece borders on pretentious, but you kind of get the feeling this is the reason locals love it so much - It is a little bit of snobbery and exclusiveness in a town where such attributes are few and far between. As a result, it tends to be fairly hard to get a table in the evening, especially if you are just a walk in. Seating also feels a little overcrowded and not particularly well organised. The Fleece is best visited on a sunny afternoon for a glass of wine or two, or on a colder day- a nice cup of coffee, and a selection of nibbles from the deli board.

Every time I have been to the fleece service has been good,like others have said getting a walk in table can be a pain,so always worth booking in advance. Food is lovely and service good. As a mum I often feel a bit out of place going in the day for a nice quiet coffee,with people on their computers giving me funny looks:-( Even though my daughter is well behaved:-(
