"Before there was nightclub chicken, there was the humble “going out” chicken. And the place to get it, in New York at least, is still The Fly. The rotisserie-and-wine spot isn’t technically a club, but kind of feels like one from the moment you arrive. It’s walk-in only, which means there are always groups milling around the bar area, clinking glasses of aligoté and competing to poach a six-person booth. A 5-6pm slot at the bar, with a half chicken, an order of french fries, a martini (or two), and the buffalo wings, if they’re the evening special. Because by 8pm, especially on a Saturday, at its glorious, chicken-loving peak, the cave-like Bed-Stuy chicken specialist is deafeningly loud. So loud in fact, that you might have trouble tasting your food, let alone hearing yourself speak.
