The Flying Fish Hostel Dumaguete

My friend and I stayed here for leisure for 2 nights. Staff were friendly and they allowed me to leave my luggage so i can roam around the city prior checkin. Got assisted to our room too. Rooms and facilities are what you expect from a hostel. I liked that we got a balcony and a CR that has an open window too. There are lights and lamps that make the property its signature aesthetic look. Downside is that water pressure decreases in the morning. They offer free water and 10% discount to their partner restaurant. Compound is safe at night too, with lots of friendly dogs. They have limited parking space and it is free. We did not experienced full parking. This place is recommendable and worth staying 🙌🏻🙏

The whole building looks nice - industrial artsy look. The lights were yellowish (incandescent bulbs?) which is fine because it adds to the artsy aura of the place. I would love for their rooms to have an option for white lights for reading. The bathroom looks dirty even for an industrial look. The water used in the toilet bowl smells. It seems the water for the shower is different from the toilet bowls. There are times the water pressure is low so the flow of water from the shower is inconsistent. Internet in the rooms seemed fast enough. I saw rats by the fence in the yard but I guess they cannot control the neighborhood. The staff were nice but 1 lady staff was not friendly while talking with us (but not necessarily mean).

I’m used to sleeping at hostels with people snoring and making noises with their bags. I always use earplugs. But this was another level. You can hear everything happening at the upstairs room (or corridor?): walking, running, talking, singing?!, bags moving… and it was not even 6AM when they started. The reception staff couldn’t care less, even when there’s a sign on the wall that says silent hours until 8AM. Apart from that the hostel is ok, conveniently located, clean and the beds have curtains (even though they are short and don’t cover the whole bed). However, I sent them a couple of messages enquiring about tours and transportation from the airport and they didn’t even reply. So terrible sleep and careless staff, I wouldn’t stay here again.

The dormitory is a mixed space that accommodates ten beds and offers ample common toilets. On the first floor, there is a common area, along with a restaurant where guests enjoy a 10% discount. Additionally, it is just a 5-minute ride to the airport. The receptionist is very accommodating.

Highy recommend. The dorm was very spacious, and the bunker beds had enough space. I'm 5'4, and still, I can almost stand up inside the bunker. The common space is always clean. The staff are all friendly and accommodating, 24/7. This is also a "WFH" friendly hostel because the place is so peaceful, and the data signal is good.

Fantastic spot for backpackers and solo travelers. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The communal areas are great for socializing, and the staff is incredibly helpful, offering excellent local recommendations. Its prime location near the city center makes it easy to explore nearby attractions and restaurants. Met one of the best tour guides via their recommendation <3

I really enjoyed my stay...the place is clean, and the internet is excellent. However, I hope the management can be more responsive to concerns regarding the CCTV footage. Unfortunately, some of my belongings, including my reading glasses and Bluetooth headset, went missing, and it seems someone may have tampered with my things

While the place is clean and has plenty of rooms, I don’t recommend their dormitory rooms. Some of my belongings went missing, and when I reported it to the front desk, they assured me they would contact the person in charge of the CCTV and keep me updated. However, it’s been over a month with no updates or resolution. The lack of follow-up and security makes the dormitory rooms feel unsafe despite the cleanliness||
