Opinion: Food wastage is something Singapore needs to start managing - SilverKris

"Faced with Singapore’s large mismatch between food waste and food insecurity, this organization salvages edible surplus across the supply chain—retrieving items rejected for cosmetic reasons, misprinted packaging, or other non‑safety issues—and channels them to vulnerable people. It highlights that much waste arises in trading and distribution (not just F&B outlets), calls out practices such as brands destroying excess stock, and advocates policy solutions like import quantity controls or taxes, mandatory donation rules, and tax rebates for in‑kind donations. The group also promotes zero‑waste production techniques, partnerships with tech platforms and overseas peers, and consumer uptake of near‑expiry products to reduce retailer and supply‑chain waste." - Mia Chenyze

A charity organisation that aims to eradicate food insecurity in Singapore. They accept donations in cash or kind, and volunteers. They collect food items and distribute to various local organisations that serve the residents directly. You can check out their website to see how you can help. You can also run your own food drive with you family, friends, company, school and drop off what you've collected at Pandan Loop.

Great organisation and effort which pack the food and send to the needy. Glad that i managed to be part of community to be contributing to such a great course. I do really hope to see this organization getting volunteers they need to continue the community work. Every single little action counts.

I volunteer with the Food Bank Singapore regularly and I really enjoy my time there. It’s incredible to see the amount of food that comes in and is distributed to those that need it. The whole team that run the organisation are great fun and very passionate about their mission. It’s good to see the volunteer teams pass through from the local businesses in Singapore, they all look like they’re having fun as part of a team building session while helping with a noble cause.

A great organisation for a great cause. I volunteered for driving and delivery - I had to stop recently because of work commitments but I recommend them and the work they do to help stop food insecurity.

Food Bank Singapore is on a mission to end food insecurity in Singapore by 2025. Do participate in their mission. Tesla La Kopi members held a Charity Drive in 2021 with Food Bank Singapore and look forward to more opportunities in 2022!

I visited the Foodbank last Friday with a dozen other volunteers from RSVP, the Organisation of Senior Volunteers. Transport was provided by RSVP to bring us from Bishan Bus Interchange to Pandan Loop, where the Foodbank was located. The first impression at the site was the sheer amount of donated items within the cavenous warehouse-like space within the Foodbank. We were briefed on the tasks assigned for the group. Basically, we needed to check the expiry dates of donated items, sort them into the right categories and weight, and place them at the right shelf. It was certainly a bit overwhelming for me as a first time volunteer at the Foodbank initially. Nevertheless, the group started to get things moving, and we managed to clear 5 pallets of donated items in the two-and-a-half hours we were there. We needed to put aside a fair portion of the donation as they were already expired. Some items did not even have expiry date on them, and have to be discarded too. So please do not dump them at the Foodbank 🙏 I left the Foodbank happy that I might have helped someone down the road when they receive food packs from the Foodbank; and also made some friends along the way :-)

Does good work of consolidating donated food items for distribution to NGO & other organisations requiring them to feed the less well of amongst us and those more in need of basic necessities. All volunteers from Corporation & Individuals are welcomed. Keep up the good work.
