"Historic Galle Fort gets a most modern kind of accommodation, hotel service in a villa ambience, with the opening of The Fort Printers located on a prime corner in the former Dutch barracks along Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The 18th century former mansion turned printing company now boasts five chic suites, four linked by a covered second story walkway common to colonial buildings of this era, the other placed poolside. Each of the present-day quarters is unique and filled with Asian antiques, irreverent tiger carpets collected from Tibet, vibrant Thai silk drapes and a profusion of comfy cushions. Sleek jack wood floors, copper lined rain showers and an extra long lap pool generate buzz among design savvy visitors but the real sensation can be found in the kitchen. Owners lured Galle-born Suraj Rodrigo back from da Paolo’s, one of Singapore’s best Italian restaurants. Sensational tuna sashimi hints of local spices and citrus risotto with garlic chili prawns proves he has mastered the elusive art of East-West cuisine. Breakfast baked goods are the Fort’s finest. The English speaking staff is hardworking and efficient though voice volumes could be turned down a notch. Ask for an anachronistic spin in the 1945 Morris Minor or enjoy the juxtaposition of a sun soak within the hotel’s saffron washed walls while the Muslim call to prayer wafts through the Fort."

"For dinner, walk over to Fort Printers, an 18th-century villa converted into a small hotel with one of the best restaurants in the fort. Whether you’re in the mood for Sri Lankan or Mediterranean fare, one thing isn't up for debate: You have to order the lobster curry."

Very central in the Fort area and generally quiet at night (apart from the dogs outside). Rooms we saw were rather squeezed in together - one by the pool was not very private. Bed comfortable and well equipped. Good food and drinks. We booked in the Heritage Wing, but maybe check what's best.

The Fort Printers was the first hotel we stayed at on our Sri Lanka trip - and just to be clear, we didn’t stay in the main hotel but in another block of rooms a little down the street (‘Peddlers’). The room was beautifully renovated minimalist chic. The staff were lovely and we enjoyed our time at the hotel (and having the ‘Peddlers’ space all to ourselves (there are three rooms - of which we had two and one was vacant)). Could the hotel be improved? Yes, though not drastically. There could have been a little more information available about the operation of the room and who (and what) was available - a bit more attention to detail, I guess. In addition the room didn’t have any dressing gowns (not that I wear them anyway but it just contributes to that ‘just not quite right’ feeling.) I can’t recall the room having a phone - which again, kinda makes it feel like you’re a bit on your own; and there is no laundry list/ services available (well at least there wasn’t in our rooms). My daughter did not like the smell used in the rooms - the check in person said it was cinnamon, but I think it was more cloves/cardamom and it was strong. We aired out the room and it was better. Oh! And if you’re staying where we did try not to get the room closest the street. It was noisy until close to midnight but reasonably quiet thereafter.

A beautiful boutique hotel with friendly staff and great service. I recently stayed one night whilst exploring Galle. The hotel is very central to the old town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants on your doorstep, in addition to the fort walls. The staff were attentive and spoke highly of the place. My room was large with great AC, breakfast had a good selection and was well done and, I enjoyed sitting outside at the front of the hotel having a coffee or a drink later in the evening. I’d love to come back here again one day.

We went to the restaurant for lunch. It was amazing! The decor is just stunning. Staff was lovely and attentive. The food was also excellent. The menu is European at the moment, and the food was very tasty.

I visited the hotel a couple of weeks back and had a most enjoyable lunch.|I liked the ambience and the friendly staff. We were served by Sujith who was efficient and knowledgeable and a definite plus to your team. He not only knew about the menu etc but also advised us about Galle and what to do there. I would definitely return to stay with you on my next visit o SL

A beautiful boutique hotel in the perfect location for our 2 night stay in Galle. The service at this hotel is 5*, we felt welcomed and looked after from the moment we arrived. The bedroom and hotel decor is modern, minimal with elegant antique colonial touches, rich wooden furniture which create a luxurious setting. The food is incredible - we really enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the hotel. A small mistake around forgetting a packed breakfast for our whale watching tour was swiftly remedied with a gorgeous lunch in the courtyard and a birthday cake for my husband. Light sleepers may find the courtyard rooms a little too noisy, with chatter outside and the odd critter on the roof, but it was not an issue for us with earplugs and the closed wooden shutters, this is a city hotel after all.

Staying at Fort Printers was a really nice experience. The property is well-designed and spacious. It was my first time staying in a historical building, and it didn’t feel odd or scary at all. The location was perfect for getting around, though if you're staying in the fort, it’s not like there’s a huge area to explore anyway. Highly recommended for anyone who's into design hotels.

A beautiful boutique hotel in the centre of Galle. The location is great to walk around and see everything in the city, with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. The rooms are modern, stylish, large and clean. We stayed in the ground floor suites which were especially nice. The staff are lovely and attentive. The communal rooms are also stylish and had old world charm mixed with a modern style. The food for breakfast is tasty and the menu for dinner looked very nice as well, although we took advantage of restaurants nearby. A good quiet place to stay in Galle.
