We had stayed here before, many years ago, when we were looking for an overnight stop off between north of Scotland & Edinburgh. We were keen to return after the change of ownership & refurb.||It was a rocky start when we checked into our room but we were quickly moved, without any hassle, to another room which was much quieter. Although this room faced the road it had the most gorgeous pastoral views from the main window and in any event there was very little traffic.||We liked the decor throughout the hotel. Classic and tasteful.  No garish patterns so popular in some recent hotel refurbs.||Husband visited their pub for a post drive beer whilst I enjoyed a lovely bath, coffee & macaroon.||We had dinner & breakfast in the hotel & really enjoyed the food. Good quality, decent choice & well cooked & presented.||The bed/pillows/bedding were all very comfortable and we slept extremely well.||The only minor things I didn't like was the  Pluto TV which doesn't show regular TV. Also, at 7am a guest in a room above us put on their radio and the noise was rather intrusive in our room, albeit we were actually awake at that time.||This is a lovely hotel and we will definitely choose to stay here again.

My friend and I live locally and enjoy cycling around the area. We used to frequent the fortingall hotel for lunch until it closed its doors and was sold so we were delighted once it reopened. We braved the heat wave and cycled out from aberfeldy to sample some food under the new management as it’s now claimed to be a luxury hotel so we were looking forward to eating something delicious. We arrived a bit hot and sweaty but made our way in to the hotel. …. No food served until 6pm even afternoon tea! The whole point of afternoon tea is self explanatory. We were offered tea and scones instead so being hungry we accepted. I also ordered an orange juice as I was thirsty after our cycle. The scones were nice and came with butter and jam sadly no cream and as for the juice can’t comment as it never arrived. all for an inflated price coming in at just under £20.00….. no cash accepted either only card.Went to use the disabled toilet as I have a slight disability but the toilet although not advised was broken and with no toilet paper etc so used their other toilets that were also let down with a lack of facilities mainly to dry my hands. Yes that’s nit picking however don’t claim to be a luxury hotel when you can’t even get the basics right.

We were so excited to come to the hotel again for dinner now it’s reopened and it did not disappoint. The staff were lovely, attentive and knowledgable and the food was wonderful. With one dairy intolerant diner we were surprised that almost everything could be easily adapted (rare in many places) and even a surprising vegan dessert on offer that catered to this requirement. We look forward to coming back regularly and for when the cocktail menu is available.

The Fortingall has recently undergone a complete renovation, so reviews prior to May 2025 reflect a very different experience - best to start fresh. I decided to spend a couple of nights there celebrating a significant anniversary, and it did not disappoint!||The revamped hotel offers a beautifully balanced atmosphere: refined yet relaxed, elegant but not too formal. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, creating a space that feels special without ever being stiff or pretentious. The rooms are stylishly Scottish - charming without the usual Highland clichés - making it an ideal retreat to unwind, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Think 'Barbour and Wellies' meets 'The Ritz'.||Despite being open only a short time, the hotel has quickly found its stride. Service is efficient and the friendly staff are eager to cater for any whim. Breakfast is hearty, or healthy if you prefer a lighter start. The evolving dinner menu will soon feature a ‘Farm to Table’ concept, to pair with the diverse and well-priced wine list - perfect respite after a day exploring the glens, fishing the rivers, or touring by e-bike.|New additions like Afternoon Tea and casual dining in the Bar promise a welcome for day visitors, but with so much to offer on its doorstep, staying overnight is well worth it. While the rates may seem high locally, the quality and experience justify every penny. ||The legendary Friday night hoolie in The Ewe with locals playing and singing is still going strong. It's lively and packed, so enjoy a whisky or two, show-casing the local Aberfeldy Distillery, and join in. Since it's standing room only, you may as well dance your heart out and stay an extra night!||Outdoor enthusiasts are in excellent hands. Whether you're seasoned or a beginner, the knowledgeable and patient ghillies provide outstanding support for hunting, shooting, and fishing. Even if you have not tried your hand before, give it go. Perfecting a 'Double Spey' or a 'Snake Roll' cast on the River Lyon is reason enough to send postcards home; even if the salmon or trout do not bite, the views will still take your breath away.||In short, The Fortingall is a newly polished gem, ready to rival Scotland’s finest country hotels. A place of character, comfort, and charm - well worth your consideration. I would return in a heartbeat...

What a stunning hotel! Lucky enough to spend the night there last night. Relaxed atmosphere in beautiful surroundings. Bedroom and bathroom were perfect...the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble! We relaxed in the Drawing Room and bar while it rained and even had entertainment from a local who strummed his guitar with a varied repertoire! Breakfast was delicious and we were very sad to leave...definitely a special place to visit. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome x

Absolute gem. I was wary of the high rating based on 80-odd reviews. But I’m so glad I went ahead and booked. Beautiful rooms, fantastic food at the restaurant, great service, superb, peaceful location. Highly recommended

We had high expectations for The Fontigall Hotel, having chosen it as a special final stop at the end of our holiday. The hotel presents itself beautifully on the website, and at £400 per night, we anticipated a level of quality and service in line with other high-end hotels we’ve experienced. Unfortunately, we were deeply disappointed - both during our stay and in the hotel’s response afterwards. Although the setting is picturesque and the design of the hotel is tasteful, the overall experience fell far below the standard we expected. Our room had not been properly prepared: it had clearly not been aired, and several (6) dead mayflies were on the floor upon arrival. There was no warm welcome, no explanation of the hotel’s services, no luggage assistance, and no clear point of contact throughout the stay. We were also charged for items we hadn’t consumed, which we only after the checkout. The room itself was very noisy — something we would never have expected at this price point. On both nights, we were kept awake by loud staff activity and background noise late into the night. Instead of a restful, rejuvenating stay, we left feeling sleep-deprived and frustrated. In this price category, one expects full relaxation and attention to detail, which was simply not delivered. It is important to say that the Restaurant Staff was very friendly and the friday night pub evening was absolutely wonderful — lively, warm, and full of charm. It was a highlight of our stay and showed what the place could be at its best. Following our visit, we shared detailed feedback directly with the hotel in a constructive and respectful manner. Sadly, the response was brief, impersonal, and offered no gesture of goodwill.. which only reinforced our sense of disappointment. We have stayed in many upscale hotels over the years, and this was by far the most underwhelming experience. The potential is there, the location is beautiful, and the hotel is well-designed, but the quality, service culture, and guest care do not live up to what is promised online, nor to what one should expect in this price category.

Yelp
The fortingall hotel is situated in a remote and peaceful location in beautiful Perthshire. I experienced that whole take a deep breath and relax moment as soon as I arrived here:)) It used to be an old coach house and has lots of lovely old features inside as well as being beside one of the oldest yew trees outside! We brought our two lovely greyhounds with us and I was so impressed that the staff and hotel was truly dog friendly, they were allowed in the lounge area and the quirky ewe bar both places serving food. We ate here both evenings and meals were excellent especially their fish and chips which was fresh, super tasty and delicious. Deserts were a little disappointing but a good effort as all homemade. The wine list is neat, well thought out, with some excellent choices from small producers and as a bonus without the huge mark on price! Their house champagne tasted exceptional and even better in the sunshine sitting in the garden. Breakfast on both mornings was very enjoyable with a great choice and staff and chefs happy to accommodate requests. The superior double room was very nice, spacious yet cosy and overlooked the tree lined hills, we even had a decanter of whiskey and proper coffee with a mini cafetière- heaven ;) Would highly recommend this place for a wee break away -for peace and quiet and relaxation. Just check in.

Yelp
Wonderful country house hotel in beautiful secluded location in Glen Lyon, Perthshire. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's so worth it. Warm, relaxing atmosphere, comfortable beds, lovely decor and top notch food. The house itself is an integral part of an original Arts and Crafts model village and thus sits well and aesthetically in its surroundings. Even offers huntin', shootin' and fishin' for them as likes that sort of thing, and we were intrigued by the information section on 'arriving by helicopter'! The area's steeped in history too, with Neolithic and reputedly Roman remains nearby, and the famous Fortingall Yew (thought to be around 5000 years old) in the churchyard next to the hotel. Dying to go back there some day.
