On the Grid : The Fossgate Social

"If you're not in the mood for the pub but can't bear the thought of a shiny bar, this cosy nook with its unfussy bare brickwork and wood is the place for you. It's the go-to hangout for many York creatives - squeeze in for tasty local and exotic beers poured in schooners, good coffee and regular live music. There's a lovely walled garden out the back too, complete with twinkly lights." - Abell Design

Google
A thoroughly enjoyable evening at Fossgate Social. Had splendid drinks and the atmosphere was quite perfect. Only note would be more ‘naners, didn’t see a lot of ‘naners in here 🍌.

Lovely Daiquiri cocktail and a nice beer selection too. Nice atmosphere and service.

It is not big but is popular with groups and couples. They have an upstairs but it's too popular so try the patio outside past the loos. Room to sit and chat without being crowded . They stock a variety of beers. The cocktail menu is a wide choice with all staff able to create them. You can see the care being used to create them.

Friendly staff and a great atmosphere in the evening and during the day too. The honey margarita is one of the best cocktails I've ever had! Revisited multiple times during our visit just for the margaritas. Would highly recommend!

Google
Lovely little place. Combines doing good coffee and tea, with craft beer on tap and cocktails. Add in delicious toasties including a decent vegan one and we were happy here. Nice friendly team, they checked a beer for me to make sure was vegan ( it was) . I know where I'm returning too next time in York

Google
Deiced to visit for a nice craft beer and the menu was reasonable, not too much local stuff but that is fine. The staff were were indifferent and clearly not interested in beer. I was disappointed when I requested a half pint but they said that they only served 2/3rds. I understand this with regards to high percentage, normally craft beer, where pints are ill advised, but not the otherway around. Cynically it feels like a cash grab, but maybe they just don't have the glasses. I was not a fan of the seating, it was uncomfortable especially where I was with a pillar wedged into my back with no wiggle room around the table. I didn't enjoy the vibe, it felt like a place where dates flounder, indecisive over what the place wanted to be. Coffee shop and craft beer don't mix and I found the pairing uncomfortable. However, I did enjoy my beer and maybe I am not the target audience.

Yeah, not bad I suppose. Not a massive fan of them forcing you to only order in 2/3 pints. I'm a man who loves variety in my life, which includes glass capacity. But yeah, pretty good. Also was hungry AF and they weren't serving

Yelp
A cute coffee shop/bar in a lovely location in York. We planned to visit for a drink on New Year's Day but they were closed, so only managed to pop in for breakfast the following day. The breakfast options are very limited (something I think they should expand on) so we both opted for a bacon sandwich, which came on toasted sourdough with tomatoes and tomato relish, and was really tasty. I had a flat white and my companion had a gingerbread latte, both really good quality. Then I couldn't resist 'breakfast dessert' and got a double chocolate brownie, which was lovely, really gooey but that's my preference. Prices were reasonable for the area and for a hipsterish establishment. The owners of the bar also rent out rooms in the apartment above the bar through Airbnb which is worth checking out if you're after an affordable stay in York.

Yelp
I love this cafe/bar, it has a very laid back cool vibe. I went with some friends on a Saturday at about 6pm and it was busy but not packed, think it probably gets fuller later in the evening. It stays open till 12.30am - I reckon it would be great and spend a chilled evening here. The deco inside is trendy with exposed brick, wooden tables and a random bike on the wall. It also has a pretty garden out the back which must be lovely in the summer, apparently you can book it out for parties. They serve nice and reasonably priced cocktails - me and my friend had a orange espresso martini which was delish! They also have food available and cakes. It's a shame I don't live nearby as it would definitely be my local place to go for breakfast and cocktails -obviously not at the same time though ;-)

Yelp
Really nice hang out place with free wifi, tasty reasonably priced food and drink and friendly staff. Looks like trendy east London coffee shop (exposed brick and bike on wall) and plays cool background music but has a nice warm welcoming atmosphere. Nice selection of teas and quirky cocktails as well as hot food using local bread makers. Also some very tasty looking tray bakes.... Available for party hire - good location and size for this methinks.

Yelp
Best espresso we've found since our arrival. The Americano comes with warmed milk. Baked goods are wonderful. Lunch menu looks great as well. A new must for us while in York.

Yelp
Can't give it a super rating, because the service is slower than treacle. The staff are doing their absolute best to try and get it done but the layout makes it impossible for them to work properly and it must be exhausting. BUT, it's a great spot in a fantastic area of town. The upstairs is a quiet ( relatively) place to work and lots of plugs for the laptop, really good wifi which I appreciate a lot. Downstairs the music is loud but really tasty trance and brazil and I loved it. The coffee is four star out of five, the food is SUPERB - try the Brioche Brekkie and see if you don't steal the receipe. They are lovely people and I highly recommend the place, just don't come here if you are in a hurry.

Yelp
Incredibly cozy cafe/bar. Fireplace near the bar and comfy chairs and a handful of tables. Beer, cider, cocktails, and hot chocolate w/ baileys. And free wifi! What more do you need?

Yelp
Came by to chill with some tea and a good book one Sunday afternoon and was not disappointed. Friendly service, delicious GF brownie (I tried the salted caramel chocolate one ~£2.50) and huge pot of really nice green tea (~£2). They have very limited seating as it's quite a small place but I was happy to sit outside as it was quite a nice day. Haven't had a chance to sample any of their beer in the evening yet as they get really busy and I've been told it's quite overpriced anyway!

Yelp
Chilled out cafe bar selling drink. You cant get a pint only 2/3 which costs what a pint does. All the ales are from down south, come on guys there's much better made up north and in York itself.
