We had dinner here, the view was fantastic. Very nice dining room with big windows. Staff relocated our table to window seating when a table opened up as we were arriving, we really appreciated that. We all enjoyed our food, my fillet steak was excellent. Service was a little inexperienced for a restaurant of this quality but I understand the labor pool is probably challenging on an island. Regardless staff was all very nice. Definitely worth a visit.

A beautiful location with great views, formal-but-friendly service and top quality local produce, prepared and presented with real care. We had starters of scallops and also Cullen Skink - the skink was the winner, the scallops were a bit bland. Main courses were seafood risotto (best) and lamb in a redcurrant gravy. City-dweller tourists take note: this is a very good traditional restaurant with a kind-of eighties quality-hotel vibe. The flavours are more rich and saucy and French influenced than I'm used to - I generally lean toward the Mediterranean. I would have liked to see more fish (grilled), more salad and more vegetarian. But The Foveran delivers excellent food in a great setting with courtesy and smiles and it's easy to understand why it has the reputation of being Orkney's best

Nice location , with sea views over farmland. Friendly informal young staff. Attention to detail could have been improved by removing the seagull shit off the front door on arrival, but hey, maybe that happens too often on Orkney to notice every time 🫣

When we arrived earlier than predicted, we were met by a lady who apologised for not knowing how to make us cocktails and said the bar staff were arriving at 5.45. |When the male bar staff arrived, we ordered 4 cocktails. We were shocked, that they were served in 2 tall tumbles and 2 champagne glasses. |When we tasted the cocktails they were not visually as expected but tasted absolutely horrible. When my friend went to the bar to ask about the cocktails, the bar attender said if he made replacements, they would be the exact same. We were shockingly charged £70 for these. ||When our table was ready. We were again shocked, not only with the presentation of our dishes but our scallops and monkfish unfortunately was over cooked and tasted like rubber.||And although the view was supendous. The price we paid £289 was absolutely rediculous and shocking. |We will NOT be back. |Regards |Gail

Welcoming and friendly staff, very comfortable well equipped large bedroom, great restaurant with magnificent views over Scapa Flow. The service throughout our stay was excellent. Quiet location just outside Kirkwall so it’s best for people with cars and has good free parking facilities.

We were early for our booking but it wasn't a problem. All the staff were friendly and smiley. The meal was delicious and we both enjoyed it. Would recommend this restaurant but you must book.

Had a lovely meal here before catching the ferry. Staff are first class and the food was excellent. Great views from the dining area.

Food lovely, service slow and so disappointed with being sat at a table that was obstructed by the bi-fold doors. We were really looking forward to having our anniversary meal here. Came away a bit despondent.

Yelp
We've been here a couple of times before and quite honestly can't find a fault. Excellent food, service and stunning location.

Yelp
I guess people in this area don't use yelp because there should be hundreds of ratings for this place. It was so good that it is worth a special trip to Orkney. The focus on local fresh food is complete with excellent seafood and unusual foods such as beremeal bread from flour made at a local mill for hundreds of years. The setting had a beautiful view of the water and the interior was decorated in a warm and inviting way. Everyone on the staff was very pleasant and the whole experience was memorable.
