The Foveran

This lovely restaurant is part of the Foveran Hotel. The spacious dining room is beautifully decorated with comfortable, modern furniture accompanied by a gorgeous view overlooking the bay. The food was absolutely delicious and service wonderful. Staff were really lovely. Highly recommend eating here and probably staying here too when in this part of the world. 👍👍👍

We had the most wonderful mean at The Foveran! We booked on the strength of the Trip Adivsor reviews and we were not disappointed. The location itself is beautiful, but this is elevated further by the food which is delicious and elegant without being pretentious and the staff who are professional and courteous but still warm and friendly. We had the Hake with caper and cream sauce and the pork belly for mains (which were served with roasted vegetables and potatoes which were roasted (we think) in perhaps some saffron oil with a touch of turmeric - they were delicious. The desserts were out of this world: Orkney Fudge Cheesecake and (for me) the star of the show: Lemon panna cotta with passion fruit and home made shortbread. For those of you driving to this location (and not drinking) they served grown-up mocktails - I had the mango fizz and it was gorgeous. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough - my only tip would be to book early enough that you get a table by the window to watch the sunset! Congrats to the whole team who run a great restaurant :-)

Like other places we stayed in Scotland, The Foveran fronts primarily as a restaurant/bar that by-the-way also has rooms (basic but right for our base-of-operations in Orkney Mainland). It’s a ten-minute drive from downtown Kirkwall, but it’s the best place for dinner in the area. Reservations recommended!

Fine dining with top notch service, wonderful food and drink and amazing views. The restaurant decor looks very fancy but although the service was excellent, it was very approachable, not stuffy. If you are looking for a special meal in Orkney, you cant go wrong with the Foveran.

We are so glad we stayed here. It was only 10 minutes drive out of town and had wonderful views. The staff were so helpful and thoughtful. The restaurant served an excellent variety of meals and all were a high standard and this was complimented with a good wine selection and beer selection. I would highly recommend the experience.

We had heard good reports about the food here, and when passing in the early evening, we tried our luck for a free table, and were pleasantly surprised at being given a lovely window table looking out to Scapa Flow. The service was friendly and efficient. And the food was delicious. The local scallops were wonderful, and the slow-cooked lamb shoulder was one of the best lamb dishes I've had. The drinks choice was extensive but we were cycling, so just sampled the excellent house wines.

Gorgeous views over the bay. We got some drinks once we arrived and sat in the lounge to order the food. I asked for a window spot when booking and by the time we got seated, there were some available due to the late time slot we booked - however, they left them unoccupied which seemed a bit odd. Anyway, the views are great on the tables in the „second row“ too! The food was excellent and creative, the starters are rather small portions (£15 for 2 scallops seems overpriced, knowing the local fish prices). The service was friendly and fast. Sometimes even too fast, we would have liked a bit more of a break between starter and main. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant due to its views and food!

We had dinner here, the view was fantastic. Very nice dining room with big windows. Staff relocated our table to window seating when a table opened up as we were arriving, we really appreciated that. We all enjoyed our food, my fillet steak was excellent. Service was a little inexperienced for a restaurant of this quality but I understand the labor pool is probably challenging on an island. Regardless staff was all very nice. Definitely worth a visit.

We've been here a couple of times before and quite honestly can't find a fault. Excellent food, service and stunning location.

I guess people in this area don't use yelp because there should be hundreds of ratings for this place. It was so good that it is worth a special trip to Orkney. The focus on local fresh food is complete with excellent seafood and unusual foods such as beremeal bread from flour made at a local mill for hundreds of years. The setting had a beautiful view of the water and the interior was decorated in a warm and inviting way. Everyone on the staff was very pleasant and the whole experience was memorable.
