The Fred

Our stay at here was as fantastic from start to finish. The entire hotel was exceptionally clean and well-kept, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The staff’s hospitality was outstanding, friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. We especially loved the environment right next to the waves, which made our stay even more relaxing. The resort’s decision to extend pool and bar hours was a great touch that kept us and other guests happy throughout the evening. With plenty of entertainment options, including good music and TV, The Fred offered the perfect blend of relaxation and enjoyment.

Staff was amazing. They accommodated every need and was extremely attentive. The area was beautiful and kept clean. Amazing views of the ocean and ported ships. The owner even extended pool and bar hours for the guests. The overall atmosphere of The Fred was the highlight of my entire vacation. I will continue to recommend this lovely resort and will absolutely come back.

We had an absolutely amazing time at The Fred this past weekend! It was so incredible that we even considered changing our flight to stay longer! The staff was outstanding—shoutout to Heather, Jerome, Jeff, and the front desk team! The chef did his thing with the CRUZAN breakfast and the fried cauliflower. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel right at home. What an unforgettable experience!

Had an amazing time at The Fred! The music was on point every night—great vibe without being overwhelming. The pool right by the bar creates such a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and having direct beach access is a huge bonus. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the location couldn’t be more convenient. Definitely a resort I’ll be coming back to! ✨🍹🌴

Exactly as advertised. Perfect for a one day cruise stop. Nice pool. Clean restrooms, shower, wifi, food and bar service. While not advertised, as an adults only resort, swimsuit was not needed at the beach.

Booked at the last minute when everything else on the island was already booked up. I would not say this “exclusive” or anything special. Rooms are ok, beds hard as a rock, no extra blankets, fixtures that don’t work, a/c unit is either on and super cold or off and the room gets stuffy. The cute fluffy pink robe in the bumper video doesn’t exist. Towels weren’t anything special or nice. I saw no pool or beach towels. Bar is ok, servers drinking while working. Unreliable drink results unless it’s canned or bottled. No rail/barrier on the front porch that is ground level to keep drunks off and way from the room door. Terrible music starting at 930am. The hot tub is not hot. Pool was ok. Beach loungers have seen better days. No shade during the afternoon. Boutique had some cute stuff that’s overpriced. The “adults only” section had some unique items to include pre-opened. condoms. Overall it’s a cute building and has potential as another review stated, but I would not come back or recommend.

Well - as off this afternoon when front desk (great staff) helped me with Hopper Booking issues this would have been great review. Clean rooms, great front desk people, nice beach and pool(as off now have not tried food - but kitchen closes at three in the afternoon)|HOWEVER - when you check in they tell you several times 900 pm is quite time. I LOVED this since I’m a terrible sleeper and roosters here seem to wake you up about three 3:30 in the morning (they can’t tell time - they start crowing at O dark 30……..|Got in on Tuesday - had busy business day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we’re supposed to be my relaxed days - Saturday I am going home.|Iwo Jima (US Naval Ship and as American I love our Navy) comes into town Thursday - bar area fills with folks off of ship (good for them - shore break) in afternoon and there is nothing but LOUD MUSIC AND LOUD TALKING OVER THE LOAD MUSIC and my bedroom window faces the bar. At 9:30 tried front desk and everyone was gone. Tried finding the “security” person - no luck. I’m typing this at 10:00 PM and can’t sleep even with my headphone on……….I’m not a happy person at this moment - there is definitely no quiet time after 9 PM. And I’m sure the rooster will have me up 3:30/4:00 am tomorrow.

If I could give zero stars I would. Today is 12/23 and I was due to arrive at The Fred in St. Croix on 12/28 (Yes in 4 days) when the hotel supervisor lied and said they had an issue with the system and my reservation was canceled. I booked my reservation in April of 2025 and it was PAID in FULL. The supervisor Dealyah never called, emailed, or apologized for the error they had but instead gave my room away. I called to ensure everything is okay (again 4 days before I arrive) because I received a weird email that says I made a modification (which I never did)! The hotel supervisor lied and said first I didn't have reservation, then she said she found it and I cancelled and she refunded my money. NONE of this is true. I NEVER called to cancel, I NEVER emailed to cancel, I NEVER spoke or mentioned I would cancel. The hotel didn't do ANYTHING to accommodate me and my friends and family after this error and NEVER even apologized for their error. This is a word of caution. I would NEVER book with this hotel and I would say RUN and share with your friends and family about staying away from this shady hotel.

This is a review of the boutique hotel, The Fred, not the restaurant. Marjan and I visited over the july 4th holiday, and chose the Fred over several other properties. This hotel is located on Strand Street, a few blocks from the waterfront and pier. The hotel is an 1800s structure, masterfully reborn as a very modern day boutique. Our attraction: contemporary design with excellent pool area. There are other properties that highlighted beach access, more so than the Fred, but our plan was to rent a car, and visit other beach areas around the island. We booked directly with the hotel, and as we found, Delia the desk agent, was very much in contact with us from the outset, asking if we might need transportation from the airport, if we might need reservations for the spa...in short, her attention was welcome indeed. Arriving, we were shown to our suite, "The Christopher", an executive suite overlooking the pool and bar area. The room was exceptional, modern and contemporary in finish, bedroom and bathroom spacious. The scene of the property from our balcony presented an area that reminded of scenes of Miami. Very modern and upscale. There is an elevated observation deck above the bar area offering expansive views of the ocean. Right of the view is the famed pier area, popular with snorklers and scuba divers. To the left are views of Dorsch beach, and farther on the left the famed Sandy Point Beach, at times off limits to visitors as the beach is a protected nesting area for sea turtles. On our day of arrival, a cruise ship was anchored at the end of the pier. The pool and hot tub are super modern in design, with vanishing edge borders. There is even a wading pool atop the observation deck, again with vanishing edge borders. Quite impressive. Here is a bit of a downer. On arrival, we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne, and naturally, we hoofed it to the bar for our gift. We found the young bartender remarkably indifferent to our presence, and after grousing that champagne was not available, walked away, only returning to take a wine order after she occupied herself taking personal phone calls. Given the warm reception we had received by Delia, the desk agent, we were surprised. We noticed this particular bartender demonstrated the same attitude with other guests, some walk ins from the street, all who left given the poor welcoming from this bar attendant. Needless to say, we never returned for bar service. One word about beach access. The Fred indeed fronts the beach, but there is very limited beach, with a single row of 3 or 4 umbrellas and lounge chairs, the beach itself uninviting given the rocks that mark the entry to the ocean. We did not utilize the beach amenities during our visit, rather traveling to other beaches along the Frederiksted front. One very disappointing issue of the pool area. While the Fred is a very upscale, pricy hotel, guests that we met were a bit older, some apparently retired, some were residents day visiting the pool area. The music that blared over speakers seemed not a match with the guests. The music was best described as hip hop/rap fusion, more fitting the staff than the guests. While we totally enjoyed the beauty of the property and the very contemporary suite, we probably would not return. We missed not having quality access to the beach, we regretted the attitude of the bartender, and we definitely did not like the choice of music that played every single day of our stay, inescapable even through our closed door, given the turbo volume constantly in play. Sorry.

I purchased VIP day passes for the Fred because I'd seen good reviews. They were misleading. I was very disappointed. There were very few chairs by the tiny beach, we had to wait to use the snorkel gear because it was already being used (although we only saw 2 people using it) and it was not terribly clean. The only plus is that the staff were very friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Had thee best massage earlier today with Todd. Todd stopped my wrist from popping. Meanwhile I really thought I had carpal tunnel. No ma'am... It's called stress.

We did not stay at the Fred, but we did make reservations to dine there on Easter Sunday. We had an ocean front view reserved table at sunset and had a lovely and delicious dinner, my wife still speaks of her lobster that she enjoyed. Based upon our experience, we would definitely return to dine.

The Fred has potential. Really needs help with providing freshly prepared seafood. Service is not what it was when Vince was there. Nice people, just not attentive to details. Food is very basic, along with the taste. Too much starch is served. Fresh vegetables were not offered. The snapper was very small, compared to what we have had in the past.

Loud at night with locals but it was comfy and clean. After 10:00pm it does get quiet!! Just annoying to have so many locals. They can buy yearly pool passes so you're surrounded by people and not the cleanest.

My fiancé and I were on a cruise that stopped in St. Croix. We unknowingly started walking in the direction of Fred's and decided to stop in when we heard the DJ at the pool. I'm so glad we did! This place has a fun, lively atmosphere. The DJ was playing great music and we were able to swim in the pool. The Fred provided towels. There is also a cute beach area where they had a couple of paddle boards. For $20, you can rent them which is definitely reasonable. The drinks were strong and the oysters were some of the best I've ever had! The service was great and I have to shout out Jlisa and her puppy, Beams! Such a sweetheart We wish we could have spent more time here! We will definitely stop in again when we're back in St. Croix.

Finally tried the whole snapper with an extra side of roasted garlic mash. Pretty good tonight!

FANTASTIC!!! we had Christmas Brunch there and I'm telling you next time we are in St Croix - we are staying there! what a happy place! on the water! no one under 18 allowed! pool. bar. private rooms. clean. great music! Definitely going to put on my list to visit again!!

The Fred has a great location and the rooms are nice (if you get a room). We did however have no hot water for showers. If you book with the Fred, do not book with them directly. Book with another booking site. We made a reservation for 2 nights originally and changed it to 5 days later only needed 1 night. We sent emails and spoke with the staff multiple times assuring us that they changed the reservation but could not get a confirmation in writing. When we went to St. Croix, we went to the Fred in person a few days earlier when we were in the area. They assured us that they were holding a room but didn't change it to a reservation because it would be too complicated with the deposit that we had for two nights. Long story short, we had no room when we got there. Karen did make it right and eventually found us a room. However, we are still being charged an extra $502 because their records show our original information for the two nights. And to make matters worse, we are being charged for incidentals for the 2 nights that we did not stay there. Don't book directly with the Fred.

Beware! We've had two bad experiences eating dinner at the Fred and we will not be back. Last year our service was awful and our waitress was stoned. We decided to give it another shot this year since everywhere can have an off day but that just wasn't the case. Our waitress was rude, the food was overpriced and the quality was mediocre at best. Our waitress brought the bill the total was $112, we gave her a credit card and when she brought it back she had charged $122 mysteriously adding a $10 drink that had not been ordered. When we questioned it she claimed she had refunded and corrected it but it took a week of calling our bank after the fact to get it sorted out ourselves.

The Fred was a great spot for a drink and appetizers. There's a beach a pool and the bar was fun! Use care in the gift shop if you have younger kids who can read! Lol it's more for grown ups!

So... The Fred should be better. It has premium location, a beautiful building and patio, and extremely mediocre food. The service, as well, is unreliable. I have had some of the best service, and some of the most tedious service. However, none of the food that's I've had was memorable in any way. On one trip I went with my wife, and getting service from our waitress was a chore. At one point I had to ask another waitress for service, as each time ours walked anywhere nearby she avoided eye-contact with us at all costs. The mint in the mojito I ordered was not muddled, so the delicious punch of mint I was hoping for was more of a cautious whisper. The chicken sandwish I ordered had the cheap buns from the grocery aisle on it, and the tomato feta salad is quite literally 1 tomato cut in quarters and sprinkled with feta. I will say, the fries and tots are always crispy and fresh, but for some reason ours came with a single cup of ketchup instead of the 3 unique ranches that were advertised on the menu. Ultimately, it seems like ownership or management doesn't care too much for the standards of service and food, as otherwise it wouldn't be so consistently mundane.

The location is incredible BUT... We recently stayed in the Murray Room for 7 nights. We arrived very excited as we have been to the island several times and have enjoyed the Fred for drinks & sunset views before. The resort has renovated historic rooms and a gorgeous courtyard pool/restaurant/bar area. Staff were all pleasant. The first night we couldn't get the the ceiling fans/lights to work, the TV remote didn't work, and had lots of water pooling in the top shelf of the fridge. We notified management the next day, but nothing was done to fix it. I know these are minor, but this was the first day. On the third day, we asked for 2 clean bath towels & were told they would be brought when the wash was done, but they didn't bring any until 4 days later. Thank goodness we still had 2 clean towels for those days. That night our hot water stopped working in our room. We reported this 3 times during our stay & had no hot water until our last night (7th night). We had 4 days of cold showers. Very disappointing to come back to after diving. This is an adults only resort, which we wanted, and a quiet location during the day. You can hear the music from the hotel bar playing until late hours (the parties are open to the public), and there were cars racing & blaring music all hours that you can hear. Our room wasn't directly on the street and we heard it loudly. Check your bill closely. We were charged for mini bar items that we didn't use. They didn't fix that charge after we notified them, and they made no compensation for the lack of hot water for the 4 of our 7 nights there. Overall the location is convenient to walk to Frederiksted, we found close parking on the street or in the side lot every night, and the courtyard is lovely, & the beach /sunset views are gorgeous The rooms are historic & comfortably updated, but not everything worked as expected. The resort is adults only, with amazing views but not a quiet retreat at night. Overall, we would consider staying there again if the price was reasonable but with different expectations. The view and location are 5star.

We really enjoyed The Fred. We went for drinks and dinner twice during our stay. Was a great time and really enjoyed the custom drinks. I think you can do a day pass for the pool too. It's very close to the beach and on the water. They have live music at night. In recommend the Mahi Mahi and the Champagne cocktail that's on the menu.

I was really excited to Eat with Fred, however my meal/ experience was mediocre. First off, they were out of half the menu by 11:30am. It was Super Bowl Sunday and they didn't have chicken wings. I ordered the Fred Flatbread and it looked like a $4 Celeste pizza (see photo). I ordered 2 virgin pina coladas and was charged the normal cost. I've always gotten virgin drinks at a lower cost as it's the alcohol that brings up the price. My friends got the shrimp and grits which, while was tasty, was on the salty side. Again disappointed that it came with 4 medium size shrimps. I would have expected at least 6 for the cost. The ambiance was very nice, ocean side seating which is why I gave it 2 stars. Service was ok. The restaurant was quiet so I was put off that the staff was just sitting around when there was a lot of trash on the floor in eating area that they could have cleaned up. This could be a 5 star place with refined cooking and staff.

KRYSTAL - Our hostess with the mostess. Without her and her husband the extra curricular activities would not have been possible Tasha (server) and Jenelle (cook) they were super attentive and at our beck and call for whatever we needed. Flo - our morning waitress! She/He (not sure of the pronoun) was so patient with all of us. Scott - bartender. Shots of Baileys in the morning. Chanel - the front office Manager. Whatever we needed she got it. She made sure check in ran smoothly and addressed any concern we had immediately. She walked to each room with us to put pictures on doors and bags in rooms. Neal - The groundskeeper. He made sure tiki torches were lit, umbrellas stayed open and the ground was free and clear of anything that could harm our drunken asses. Emily - Head of housekeeping. She ensured our rooms were kept tidy and even washed Mac and I clothes the last day. For a tiny fee. If you needed extra towels or anything in your room she made it happen. Vince - The restaurant manager. Allowed us to take over the music and essentially let us do whatever we wanted. If anyone isn't mentioned here that impacted your stay be sure to call them out by name. The entire staff was so happy to help us in any way possible. They made several admissions that they've never seen so many people that look like us having good adult fun in one place!

We were there for Sunday Brunch. We had reservations! 2 1/2 hours after we set down our food arrived. No manager on site 3 of us had Colada French Toast. It was 2 small pieces of bread about ¼" Thick no flavor all edges were burnt and most of the toast & one piece of bacon. My husband got chicken and waffle the chicken was good the waffle dry. Approx. One tablespoon of syrup & couldn't get any more. When we got home we called to speak to a manager and none on the premises. They took our number to no avail. The girl on the phone she's been hearing a lot of complaints.

First timer at Fred's for a nice oceanfront dinner! This place is so chic! We had a great sunset view and live music to enjoy while having drinks and dinner. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. The menu isn't huge, but has good options for all flavor profiles. We had the catch of the day Mahi Mahi - so so good! Then the truffle mac and cheese, salad, creamed spinach, and shrimp scampi, all also equally tasty! We will definitely be back and I would love to check out the rooms of this adorable boutique hotel!

The poolside bar is terrific. One does not have to be a guest of the hotel to patronize the bar. (The pool is for guests only, but the front desk is generous with day passes if it's not crowded.) A very relaxed, comfortable vibe. Great views of the ocean, too. Staff is friendly and quick with the drinks, which are excellent. Britany behind the bar is awesome. One of the best bartenders in STX. She has a great ability to smile with her eyes and her voice-a wonderful skill when bar and restaurant staff are required to wear masks.

The Fred has changed, and unfortunately for the worse. I first stayed at The Fred about three years ago. It was comfortable, the staff was friendly and responsive, the shower had reliable hot water, I didn't need to worry about beach- or pool-chair availability, and I slept with the windows open to the ocean breeze. Excited to share this with my girlfriend, we went back in March. I wish we stayed somewhere else. Our room had no hot water for more than two days. We notified the staff, who assured us fixing the faulty water heater for our room was a priority. But, they seemed flustered by other events at the hotel -- more on that later -- and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by asking for working hot water. Worse, it was clear they knew about the faulty water heater before we checked in -- they said it had been an issue after we asked them to look into fixing it -- but didn't mention it upfront and couldn't give us the option to switch rooms because they said they were fully booked. We did have periods of hot water on our third and fourth days, but those periods were short and unreliable. Shortly before checking out, we politely requested a partial refund for the inconvenience cause by the lack of hot water and other issues (described below). The Fred offered us 10%, for a total of just over $100. We politely asked them to increase the percentage, they told us they would consider it, talk to the manager, and get back to us. They never did. Another drastic change as compared to my first experience at The Fred is in the crowds and quiet time, or lack thereof. The Fred's bar, pool, and beach areas were crowded. And not only with hotel guests, but with guests visiting for the day or part of the evening. At most times it felt like The Fred cared more about and catered to its daily guests than its longer-term hotel guests. Finding open beach chairs was a challenge. Getting prompt drink or food service, without going to the bar, was a challenge. And finding a quiet location -- whether on the beach, by the pool, or even in our room -- was often impossible. There was music playing at The Fred, either from a DJ or live musicians, many hours of every day of our stay. While we both love music, especially live music, this was too much. It was constant. And despite The Fred staff's promises, to us at the hotel and in response to other guests' online reviews, quiet time at night was a myth. For multiple nights of our stay there was music playing loudly well past 10 pm; one night it went on past midnight. In our room, with the windows closed, it sounded like we were sitting in front of the stage or DJ booth. Even with earbuds and earplugs we could hear the music. This was a problem, especially because we booked diving trips that departed early each morning. Other, less serious, issues: The toilet water was consistently yellow and foul smelling. The room had diluted hand soap to the point that it was just water. While the bed was made regularly each day, our coffees were never replenished, nor were our bath towels until we made multiple requests. The Fred's staff is kind. The views are beautiful. And it was a great place to stay in early 2021. But given the issues we encountered in March 2023, I would not stay there again.

The food is fresh and delicious!!! Right on the beach the vibe is grown and sexy!!! Can't wait to get back to a full vibe.

Got a room on Valentine's Day 2023 and dinner reservations! Lost out big!!! Horrible hotel management with attitude (big time)!! Went to dinner and was left with no service or drinks or even a hello for over a half hour. Went back into our room and found an employee digging through our things!! wtf!! DANGER!! Not safe to stay here!! Please stay anywhere than here!!! Good luck!

Great place to spend a few hours or even a full day. They offer day passes if you are not staying at the hotel to use the pool and deck area overlooking the beach. The restaurant is decent. Not always consistent, but we have been happy to come here almost every time we are in St Croix. The outdoor bathroom is amazing and constructed in a creative way that allows air flow and prevents it from smelling like an outdoor bathroom. I definitely recommend the bloody Fred! Was delicious. My daughter enjoyed the burger here.

Staff is untrained. Management is untrained. We ordered oysters on the half shell and paid $24 for SIX very small oysters. They SUCKED. Our meal was mediocre at best and we paid $180. I even had to go find the server to ask for utensils after our food was served. I will NEVER eat there again. What a shame. Whoever is responsible for this venue should be ashamed. Don't go.

Jul 2019 We just closed the gate on our most recent visit to The Fred and St.Croix. It's hinged, though...so we'll be back soon...MOST DEFINITELY!!! When you check into The Fred with a hand shake and leave with a hug...you know you've stayed somewhere special! If you are contemplating whether to "Sleep with Fred" while staying in St. Croix, allow me to indulge you with insight: This was our second trip to St. Croix and the same for The Fred. We are now "repeat offenders." Yes, while you are seeking accommodations for your stay, you may see/read that this already award winning resort is not even finished...but DO NOT allow that to deter you from taking the plunge into this budding resort experience. Why The Fred? The pool! The view! The hospitality! The modern rooms! The spa! The view! The hot tub! The beach access! The convenience (Ask for rides with "Priscilla" (a stretch golf cart) to local venues around Fredericksted! Jeff Printz and Topher Swanson are turning this town around!!! ...and The Fred is definitely putting King FREDerick back in Fredericksted! After ascending the mosaic tile-faced steps, upon arrival, your senses will heighten as you enter the lobby. This aviary-ish space with its ocean-blue walls, spa-quality scents, classic lighting and a floor to ceiling portrait highlighting the ever-popular free ranging poultry throughout the island, is as inviting as imaginable. This "Cock Room" treats you with all of the above, and Brian Wellers' front desk staff offer you a complimentary beverage and desirable snacks upon arrival. Once you venture through the lobby toward your historically-named room, you'll have to watch your step because your jaw may impede your footing when your eyes find the massive ocean-blue pool - this boutique resort's centerpiece! As you continue walking past the pool, you'll be challenged to look away from its intriguing four-sided infinity edges and lighting. However, as you reach the other side of the pool, your eyes will find the bar, and beyond the bar is the breathtaking view of the island's best sunsets. Best viewed from atop The Fred's "skydeck," you can sip a cocktail while enjoying a front row seat in a unique second-story wading pool as you revel in nature's daily culminating beauty. Yes, The Fred is not even completed, but they are incredibly respectful and accommodating while under construction -so much so, that we were completely undeterred when booking our second trip to the island. Scot Newell is leading the staff and development of the soon to be opened restaurant and fully functional bars. He is already actively involved with hosting hospitality events throughout the community and island. As I mentioned, this is our second time to "Sleep with Fred," and I'm proud to say, "My wife and I are hooked." The staff and owners are not just associates whom we now know, they are now friends, after two stays. Come to St.Croix and Sleep with Fred, Swim with Fred, Spa with Fred, Yoga with Fred, Drink with Fred, Beach with Fred, and Eat with Fred real soon!! Jan 2019: Y'all! Not only am "I Sleeping with Fred" while here in St Croix, but Coco just "popped my cherry" at the spa!!! I just had my first pedicure and it was AMAZING!!! Great conversation in this quaint, but very professional facility! Kurle hooked me up with an opportunistic facial, taking extra care to treat my recent post-surgical facial scar! If you're planning to "Sleep with Fred," or just stop in while visiting the island, your relaxing vacay will lack completeness without a visit to The Fred Spa!! Be sure to ask for Coco and Kurle!

My partner & I were staying at a different hotel, but spent one day in Frederiksted, and we got lunch at The Fred, AND OH MY GOD! The food & service was amazing! It was so amazing we actually got the day pass to use the pool & hot tub. We also ended up not going to our reservation for dinner at a different establishment to come back! We had the honor of meeting Chef Jay, and they were amazing. Their food is out of this world. I transcended into a different plane of existence. My partner prefers a lighter batter on fried fish, and she went out of her way to make that happen for him! We cannot wait for our stay at The Fred in December, and cannot wait to be spoiled by Chef Jay's food!!

Came in for a drink and a bite. Cute boutique hotel but the food service is so bad. For starters we were asked to move from a two seater table on the water to the bar because they were short on staff. OK no problem, I understand that Julia's was our server. If you want to call her that. She seemed annoyed the whole time we were there. She took our order and we waited 35 minutes for our food to come and then found out that some other server took my husband's meal. So she had to resubmit the order. About 20 minutes later Julisa took off and told another server she'd be back. She came back 10 minutes later with laundry detergent. Really? It was a total of 50 minutes. My husband finally asked someone else to go check on his food. Of course, it was sitting in the back ready to go. Tre the bartender was friendly, he filled up my drink two separate times, and brought us our check when we were done. I tipped him cash because our server didn't deserve even a dollar even though I still tipped her.

We came to St. Croix on a cruise ship and lucked out big time in finding this gem! As we walked to find an establishment we found The Fred. We paid for a day pass at the gift shop and exited gift shop into an oasis! Absolutely beautiful resort with adorable atmosphere. The pool is amazing! The bar spectator! We could choose from beach chairs on the sand or front row chairs on deck over looking water. These are just ocean side. You have plenty of choices pool side if you would rather. Once the kitchen was opened we enjoyed steak subs that were delicious! Drinks were great! Prices here were beyond fair for what you get! Bathrooms and resort were kept clean and nice. Live music played. Manager introduced herself and was so friendly and kind. My husband snorkeled most of the day and found the most beautiful treasures! If we ever get back to this island...The Fred is where you will find us! Thanking our lucky stars we stumbled upon this place by pure chance!

We stayed here for a quick trip to St. Croix and it was great! The staff: Very friendly and accommodating. They tended to our every need The hotel and room: This is a boutique hotel that is less than a 30 minute drive from the airport. It reminds me of a bed and breakfast as there are several houses (and more under construction) with rooms in each. The main house is very colorful, cool and relaxing. Our room was beautiful and even though it was situated in the front of the house we did get a sliver of a water view. The private bathroom was cute. My only gripe was the rain shower - you really have to maneuver not to get your hair wet. The room was missing a full length mirror and a closet. We didn't need a closet - I was just comparing it to every other hotel that I've stayed at. The pool and additional rooms are under construction. This is an adults only hotel on the beach. I'd definitely stay there again.

This is an oasis, a gem, the ahhhhh spot to relax and enjoy. Stopped into the cute little gift boutique shop. Delighted at the offerings, and with the courteous ladies running the shop, which is also the hotel guest check in reception. Selected a few things, and moseyed into the back pool, lounge, beach area. A slice of paradise! Stayed for an hour or so, and I promised to be back, and I will. We are on-island for months, and if not already renting an apartment, would absolutely want to stay at The Fred. Will be back for an afternoon for sure. VERY VERY TOP-NOTCH!!!

What a disappointment when my husband and I sat at the bar today. We were completely ignored by the staff, who were not busy at all. We waited for them to pull themselves away from whatever it was that was more interesting than our tip - it didn't happen -and then took our business elsewhere. We were wearing masks, dressed appropriately (not in bathing suits) and asked for menus.

The Fred is the newest resort in Frederiksted, and caters to an adult-only crowd...which is made evident in its tongue-in-cheek motto, "Sleep with Fred" which is instrumental in its marketing. Seriously, the beach towels, t-shirts, pens, do-not-disturb hangtag and various other materials hammer home the motto, taking it from cute to near overkill. In any event, when my girlfriend and I planned a five-day vacation to St. Croix, the Fred was the clear choice for where to stay. We did our homework, and even though we knew that part of the 24-room resort was under extensive renovations, leaving 12 rooms open and no pool, it seemed like it would be perfect for what we were looking for...and it was, for the most part. We definitely wanted beach access, and The Fred has that in spades. Honestly, being able to leave our room and walk a mere 50 steps to a sandy beach on the Caribbean Sea was a major, major boon. As it stands, we spent the better part of three days on the beach, and we often had a 100-foot expanse of beach to ourselves. The first full day we were there, we had to ask staff repeatedly to bring out some beach chairs (which were locked up to prevent them from being stolen), which was a little annoying. The second day went a lot better in that regard, as staff were very quick to respond, even setting up a parasol and the chairs in a great spot almost immediately. There's no daytime bar open yet, which is a bit of a shame, but that will come eventually. Our room ("The Arlington") was a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it was very comfortable and spacious, featuring a king-sized bed, a couch, effective A/C, and other little conveniences. The wifi is particularly strong as well, which allowed me to watch a certain Sunday evening show live on my laptop... On the other hand, there were a couple of large-scale issues that I can't ignore in a review. First, while a partition-free, walk-in shower can often be a good idea, in this instance the floor wasn't tilted to allow for adequate drainage. As a result, after a mere ten minutes, literally the entire bathroom floor would be wet -- not just the shower area, but the sink area, and (most disturbingly) the toilet area as well. What this means is that you either have to take an ultra fast shower, or accept the reality that you'll ultimately be wading in 3-inch-deep water until it eventually drains (which takes about fifteen minutes), or until you soak it up with your towels. The second big issue was that there was a strong storm that lasted for a few hours on one of our evenings there...and the roof started leaking. Not just drips, but a full-on stream down one of the walls near the bathroom. We had to use our bath towels as well as our beach towels, hand towels, and washcloths to soak up all the water. When we talked to the front desk about it the next day, they were apologetic, but already knew about both of these issues. In fact, that is probably what annoys me the most -- that these were known issues, but we had no forewarning. A few additional items of note: there's a Keurig with sweetener, creamer, and little snacks in the lobby, which is a good thing, because there aren't many places to get coffee in the vicinity. Speaking of the vicinity, if you're reading this and have never been to the area, it's highly recommended that you rent a car at some point. While there are a few great restaurants within walking distance (see my review for Braata), their hours vary quite a bit, and there aren't any decent grocery shops to stock up on non-restaurant foodstuffs. We spent the first two days at The Fred carless, and while they were good days, we were ultimately grateful that we decided to rent a car for the rest of our visit. Oh, and even though we had some gripes about service, the staff were almost all exceptionally friendly (a special shout-out to Tim and Coco at the gift shop and spa respectively), and we were personally treated very well. Despite some of the negatives I listed above, our experience at The Fred was mostly positive, and if we return to St. Croix we would have no qualms about staying there again. In fact, I would go so far as to recommend it to any visitors to the island. I can't give it a five-star review because of a lot of little issues, but realistically, it delivered on everything we expected from it -- a beachside resort on the Caribbean with a fair amount of solitude and generally good service.

Stumbling on The Fred while visiting St. Croix was amazing. Even tough the pool was not ready yet and they were still doing construction on the upper deck, it was very modern and luxurious. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The beachfront is beautiful with shaded tables and beach chairs. We stayed all day and they drove us back to port when it was time to leave. They also had great music and the atmosphere is very gay friendly. I also met one of the owners who was very friendly and assured us that all of the new additions will be ready soon. I'm confident that The Fred will bring tourism and development back to the island and in a short time will be a very popular destination spot. Looking forward to going back and staying here soon!

Went for drinks and took a tour of the hotel. The hotel looks amazing the pool and bar area is like a high end Miami hotel.. The downside is the neighborhood isn't very safe at night.

I called on our way to The Fred to have dinner, was told they took walk in's until 8:00 pm; arrived at the hostess's post at 7:56 pm and the hostess turned us away saying they were closed. I informed her that I had called 10 minutes prior; however, she stated they could not take us. We won't be attempting to ever have dinner here again, especially when we found another place that not only welcomed us!

GOOD GOLLY!!! House music!! Great service!! St Croix should be proud of this spot!! Come in and have the Fred's Confusion drink made by DIVA GALORE......... the views are to die for AND we already booked to return for the following upcoming year!! It's a secret spot- that needs to be visited by the masses!!

Nice evening out with the wife and friends. Decided to go to The Fred after it was recommended by the resort (Sand Castles By The Beach) owner and other Yelp reviews. The Fred did not disappoint. While the service was a bit slow, it was good. We were on vacation, so a slow meal overlooking the beautiful sunset was exactly what we desired. The food and drinks were delicious and the ambience was delightful. Would certainly return if we're on the Island again.

This is a posh boutique hotel if you're looking for a clean room that's quiet with courteous staff. When you enter you are greeted with a eucalyptus towel and glass of sparkling moscato. The staff is well dressed in uniform. The hotel is adults only and located on beach front crystal clear blue calm waters. The furnishing when you walk in are colorful and eclectic. You think you're in a boutique hotel in Miami. We had a good experience with the staff while sunbathing by the beach. We did not eat here as there are so many Local food options within walking distance. It's dog friendly.. yes if your pup is well behaved they are welcome all over the grounds except in the pool itself. I'm already planning my trip back with my dog! For the same price we started our trip at the carambola beach resort and that place was such a disappointment.

Great food!! Good prices!! Love the atmosphere. We had the lobster Benedict! Wonderful! The Fred burger and tots were great! The Pina Colada was so smooth! Even the ranch was great! We will be back next time we are here!

I hate to have to say all this, because some employees there deserve much better. So we'll start with the good. The beds are new and wonderfully comfortable. One of the best hotel beds I've ever slept on. The housekeeping staff is incredible. Hard working and on point. A couple servers and a couple bartenders obviously care and work hard to make your stay enjoyable. The rest just truly don't give a shit. And it shows. The GM is trying his best, but when he's not around, it shows. We heard an ad on the radio while driving around the island for The Fred, and funny enough it touted being kid free. A lie. It touted the best wifi on the island. A lie. It touted outstanding food. A lie. The food, when you could get it, was average at best. But with the random hours, it wasn't reliable. One night while we were there, it closed just after 7 as did the bar. So unacceptable. On the day we checked out, we ordered breakfast with another couple at 9:40. We received our food at 11:30. We were the only people in the restaurant and we watched 4 or 5 other plates get served for room service in that time. So certainly not busy. The real kick was they charged us 25 bucks for a late check out because we weren't out of the room by noon. Because, you know, it took two hours to get our breakfast. I got sucker punched by another guest and instead of him being sent off property, I got to see him first thing in the morning the next day. That was fun. We were in room 3204 and while The Fred doesn't allow children to stay the night, the resort right next to that room does. So if you don't want to hear a dozen screaming kids early in the morning, don't take that room. Or hear the roosters, or the trash truck at 6am. We're going back to St. Croix in December, and there is a zero percent chance we'll stay at the fred again. It was a wildly disappointing experience.

Yes! Amazing atmosphere, great drinks, awesome staff! I visited this place via a Royal Caribbean. Sericonsidering a trip back to stay here.

Made plans for the evening and two and a half hours before the reservation, they called to cancel because they forgot they had sold out the space for a 50th birthday party.

Horrible food and service. Came with great expectation based on reading reviews on Yelp. Where can I start. Food taste bland, waited almost 2 hours and was not told others order was ahead of mine.

Basically this place deserves a 5 star review but the service I received from Shennelle at the front desk almost made me choose another hotel when we arrived, and I will not get started on the manager of the restaurant or its workers. Besides 2 or 3 decent ones literally everyone was walking around with a stick in the A. It blew my mind how a customer service island based on tourism would have such absolutely horrible customer service. The only exception was a young lady named Krystal (front desk) and also Yahuda (Server)I hope this place does not ruin their attitude. I could go on but why bother. hope this helps someone

I stayed at The Fred this past May and was very glad I did. Brian is the manager. When it was thought I left a laptop on the airplane, Brian took it upon himself to go to the St. Croix Airport to see if he could locate it. The place is cool. The pool and jacuzzi are infinity types and have really beautiful lighting. You look right out on the ocean too. Shenell, Damian, Brandon, Krystal, Emily, Stephanie - all the people who worked there were fabulous. I recommend going there!

Second time staying at The Fred. We had the same group of rooms as before. The rooms are nicely appointed in sort of a Caribbean chic motif. Staff is super friendly and helpful as are the owners. There is still construction going on. The pool is nearly complete and will be very nice. You can use the pool deck or beach for lounging. Beautiful bar area currently open on a limited basis. We will definitely be back.
