Called off in here for dinner a few days before New Year’s Eve on a bustling Sunday evening. Had a bit of a wait before staff took our order, but I can cope with that as they were so busy. Drinks: Opted for the house wine, and wasn’t disappointed. Exceptionally good quality. Food: Loved the steak! Full of flavour. The dauphinoise potatoes didn’t disappoint. One minor criticism is that the frog legs seemed a little lacking something, with the parsley and garlic sauce a little too thin to cling or offer much flavour. Lived in France for a few years, so have had a fair few of them and think they should probably review that particular dish. The rest of the meal was absolutely lovely though, so wouldn’t let this put me off recommending the place. Finished off with a wonderful Café Gourmand with one of the best dessert wine pairing selections I’ve had in a long time. Loved the way they placed the tasting notes around the glasses. All-in-all: I’d definitely return and recommend.

Fabulous! The brochettes de poissons were excellent! Nice touch with the merguez ! Also loved the confit de canard. I picked the ratatouille and it was almost as nice as me mam's back in France! :o) It was just really nice! Finished it with the crème brûlée and an île flottante.... Soooooo yummy. I guess I'll have to come back to try more. Thank you for the nice evening.

The French Quarter is easily one of my top five restaurants in Newcastle and an absolute must visit if you're looking for a high quality meal paired with outstanding service. The restaurant itself is beautiful, tucked away in a charming archway near Newcastle’s historic castle. The ambience is warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for an exceptional dining experience. We began with a charcuterie board, which was perfectly portioned for three people to share and was a great way to start the meal. For the mains, I chose the duck, and it was absolutely incredible ... Tender and just melted in your mouth, bursting with flavour. We also shared a few sides, and the dauphinoise potatoes were rich, creamy, and unforgettable. The service was excellent. Attentive, friendly, and professional, which really elevated the experience. While the prices might seem a bit steep at first glance, the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere makes it more than worth it.

Great restaurant, staff were welcoming and we felt at ease. Really relaxed atmosphere. The menu and the format may put people off, but the staff do a superb job explaining the process. Food and wine knowledge excellent. Food quality and taste was exceptional. Elle was our waitress and she was top class.

Adore this restaurant. We have been 3 times now, we live down in London, or else it would be so much more regular. Ted, one of the servers, remembered us (it’s been almost a year) and was so wonderful throughout the evening. Super attentive, positive and professional. So was T with our bookings. In fact all the staff are lovely and have been there since we first started coming, says a lot about the management. Food is divine, quintessentially French and tastes delicious. The Duck and Beef Bourguignon are my favorite! The music is French, which makes a huge boost to the ambiance and authenticity. If you asked me to name a negative….all it would be is that it is located too far from us to be able to be regulars. Highly recommend The French Quarter any day of the week!

What a lovely restaurant. My son had been there once and knows how much we enjoy good food, nice wine and how much we value a good atmosphere. The French Quarter managed to tick all the boxes for us. We had a nice selection of food to share among us, two wine carrafes and some dessert. Everything was lovely, and the service was superb. We will visit again when we are back in Newcastle again.

The French Quarter offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious food, a warm atmosphere, and outstanding service. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations and insight into the dishes. The quality of the food was excellent, with rich flavors and beautifully presented plates that truly captured the essence of French cuisine. The ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, making it a great spot for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. The attention to detail in both the décor and the service added to the overall experience. The only downside was that I had requested a small birthday acknowledgment for my partner, which unfortunately did not happen. It was a little disappointing, especially on a special occasion. However, aside from that, everything else was impeccable. Overall, I would highly recommend The French Quarter. If you're looking for great food, a lovely setting, and attentive staff, it's definitely worth a visit!

Dined out for restaurant week. Lovely warm welcome and excellent service. Food was lovely and they quickly rectified an issue with my dessert.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for a rare date night, and I'm so glad we did. We were well-taken care of from our arrival, with bartenders thoughtfully explaining the drinks menu, and an extremely polite and attentive server of a caliber that you rarely find. The wine is thoughtfully chosen, and appropriately pricier than wine you'd find in most bars and restaurants, but I really enjoyed my Cotes du Rhone. I would highly recommend starting with charcuterie - we shared a small platter with bread, and they gave us a little bit of everything! Excellent cheeses, great chicken liver pate, a savory terrine, and plenty more. We then shared many small plates - how nice that instead of ordering one big heavy meal, you can try so many things here. Our aubergine and goats cheese salad was good, but heavy - came with a massive slab of goat cheese which after our starter felt a bit unnecessary. The boeuf bourgignon was excellent - hearty and comforting and highly recommended. I was marginally less impressed with the fish dishes - both the monkfish skewers with chorizo and the battered cod were perfectly serviceable, but didn't wow me. The creme brulee was a lovely, if small, finish. Perhaps I'm being picky, but I think they are capable of more. I'm still giving it 4 stars based on beef stew, charcuterie, service, atmosphere, and absolutely overflowing potential and charm in spades. I'm sure we'll return.
