This is a very nice, up market hotel. My room was a very good size, big enough to accommodate a free standing bath in it. Good quality furnishings. I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist. I don't think she had worked there long, but was very enthusiastic about the rooms and breakfast. For breakfast I had the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled eggs, with the eggs done exactly right, nice and creamy.

A recent stay over the Easter weekend, we arrived and we’re met with a friendly approach that continued throughout the stay. A very insightful brief on the hotel and accommodation and we weren’t disappointed, like a few have said the beds are HUGE and the en-suite room was lovely. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh, with more choice to match the majority of visitors taste I’m sure. I would have preferred slightly larger cups in the room but that may be as I like my coffee, they were more than adequate for a standard cup. We’d definitely consider staying again as the proximity to the centre of Richmond is perfect, parking can be an issue but we were lucky enough to park right outside, a very pleasant stay thank you.

We had a lovely stay myself and my partner. On arrival the member off staff on the desk helped us to the car park then met us out there, offering to help with our bags. The room was a good size as was the en-suite. The bed was huuuge!! Great for me and my partner as we are both tall. Located in a good spot close to everything but also quiet. We had a lovely garden view. David was amazing, absolutely brilliant host. Really engaging and made you feel so welcome. Breakfast was delicious and made fresh with quality produce. Would definitely stay again. Big thumbs up from us.

This little hotel is charming and well suited to the village of Richmond. A hearty English or American breakfast is served each morning, along with smaller options. The food and happy service is excellent. A lovely garden in the back filled with flowers and bird calls each evening tops off a day wandering castle and abbey ruins or exploring the nearby market square. Cocktails in the garden anyone? David Todd, Proprietor, is the man that makes this hotel really stand out. He is funny, kind and generous with his knowledge of the village and his excellent martinis! It is a small property, but abundant with personal comforts. I highly recommend Frenchgate!

We checked out the hotel on Booking, com and Trip Advisor and neither pointed out that the restaurant has been closed for dinner for 3 years, although both show good reviews for the non-existent food. Breakfast is served and was very good. The Frenchgate Restaurant & Hotel website does mention no dinner but its been phrased like it was just coming out of covid and that all would be well soon.||We actually booked with the owners and it was only when I phoned back and asked about reserving a table did David say that it was shut but he did provide a good map of other restaurants which, to be fair, were very local and good.||The hotel itself is in a good location but showing its age which considering that the cottage we were in was dated from about 1650 can't be too harshly criticised. Tv channels need updating and WiFi non existent in the room.||Comfortable and clean but wouldn't book again.

We had room Nr.1, the biggest rip off we ever had in GB. A damp small room, with just one nightstand and one reading lamp. When we opened the little closet, a cloud of dust cane out. There was mold in the bathroom and under the bedroom window. The TV does not have any BBC. The hotel, according to there website, has free Wi-Fi, but it died not reach this room. We talked to the owner about this, he was not sorry at all, he said ”you should have send a special request. Booking.com makes mistakes all the time.” Well we travel a lot and never ever had that problem, when the hotel had wifi, it’s everywhere. The WiFi in the main house is poor as well. All this for a good 155 pound. I call this rude. It is at a cobbled street, you feel every car driving by as if it were in your room. The beds are comfy though. The breakfasts is good.

This is a small private hotel with 9 rooms. Very clean and homey. I liked the friendly service, food, bed and quiet of the environment. Parking is just outside. The location is perfect, could not be better. On a negative side: my room was overlooking the main entrance, I could hear everyone talking due to old windows. Also the street lights are bright and shutters do not block the light. Otherwise it was a comfortable 2-night stay. I would recommend this hotel.
