The Best Hotels in the World: 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Singapore’s Fullerton Hotel occupies a historic post office, so when the brand opened a Sydney outpost in 2019, they found a heritage landmark that proved a perfect fit: the 1874 General Post Office building, built in a Victorian Italian Renaissance style with a commanding clocktower and carvings of contemporary Sydneysiders at work. (Look for the postman delivering a letter to a flirty barmaid, a duo that has raised eyebrows for decades.) Guest rooms, which expand into the adjacent high-rise, are filled with luxe touches, like Harman Kardon Bluetooth speakers, Nespresso machines, and Balmain or Atkinsons toiletries. For a touch of true elegance, book the Heritage Long Suite, which occupies the former postmaster’s office and is decked out with rich crown molding, marble fireplaces, and his original writing desk from the 19th century." - CNT Editors

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney (Sydney, New South Wales) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The 150-year-old General Post Office building once connected Sydney to the rest of the world — not only via mail but also via phone — when it became home to the first public telephone exchange in 1882. As The Fullerton Hotel, the historic building now connects travelers to the city thanks to its prime location, just a short walk from must-visit landmarks such as Darling Harbour and the Sydney Opera House. Rooms sit across the Italian Renaissance-inspired General Post Office and the sky-high modern wing, dressed in a classic contemporary style that feels intentionally pared back: when you’re this high up all focus is on the spectacular view. On the first floor dine on modern Australian and South-East Asian dishes in restaurant The Place, surrounded by original arched windows, grand columns and intricate stonework, or elegantly loaf in The Bar over afternoon tea and evening cocktails." - Tablet Hotels

Rating: ★★★★★ My wife and I have just returned to the Gold Coast after a weekend at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney. This wasn't just a hotel stay; it was an absolutely flawless experience that has set a new standard for luxury and service. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Every staff member we encountered was not only professional but genuinely warm and attentive, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another booking. We had treated ourselves to an upgrade to one of the Heritage Rooms, and it was worth every dollar. The room was stunning—beautifully appointed, immaculately clean, and brimming with historic character while offering every modern comfort. It was the perfect sanctuary in the heart of the city. We were visiting to celebrate my wife's birthday, and The Fullerton team went above and beyond to make it magical. Upon returning to our room on her birthday, we were met with the most wonderful surprise: a personalised birthday card and a delicious, beautifully presented slice of birthday cake. This personal touch was great and truly elevated the experience from excellent to extraordinary. It’s these thoughtful details that show a hotel cares deeply about its guests. Thank you to every single team member who contributed to our weekend. You turned a special birthday trip into a lasting memory. I cannot recommend The Fullerton Hotel Sydney highly enough and will most certainly be returning. To anyone considering a stay: Look no further. This is it.

Location is fantastic, surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants. Staff is helpful and professional, dealt with requests efficiently. Executive lounge offers good coffee and food. The rooms are spacious, especially the bathrooms, separate toilet, shower, and vanity areas are super convenient and thoughtful. Rooms' decorations are classic but clean and well maintained. Balmain amenities are of great quality. Beds are comfortable, beddings crisp and fluffy. Ate at The Place and The Bar, excellent food and drinks, especially the Laksa and chicken satay, so good so Singaporean. Highly recommend Fullerton Sydney, will use again.

A Grand Classic in the Heart of Sydney. Our recent stay at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney was a wonderful experience that perfectly blended historic charm with mostly exceptional service. If you appreciate architecture with a story and a location that can’t be beaten, this is a fantastic choice for your Sydney visit. Highlights of the Stay. Architectural Splendor: Staying in the former General Post Office building is an experience in itself. The sandstone facade and the soaring atrium are inspiring. Prime Location: You are steps away from Martin Place, luxury shopping, and a short walk to Circular Quay. It is the ideal base for both business and leisure. World-Class Service: Most of the staff truly embody the Fullerton brand—warm, professional, and incredibly attentive to detail. A Note on Character & Refurbishment While the hotel maintains a high standard of luxury, it is worth noting that it is a heritage property. Some of the room inclusions and fixtures show noticeable signs of age, and there are certain areas of the guest wings that would benefit from a thoughtful refurbishment to bring them up to a more contemporary five-star standard. However, rather than detracting from the stay, these elements felt more like the "patina" of a grand old dame. The rooms are exceptionally clean and spacious, and the comfort of the beds remains top-tier. Final Verdict...The Fullerton Hotel Sydney offers a unique sense of place that modern glass-and-steel hotels simply cannot replicate. Despite needing a few cosmetic updates in the future, the combination of history, elegance, and hospitality makes it a standout destination. We would happily return.

Love this hotel & location! Right in the heart of downtown Sydney. Bustling! A little too busy for my liking but a lot of people would love it. Close to Darling Harbour , Circular Quay, Sydney Opera house. Staff here are fantastic. Great place . Stayed in Sydney years ago and the place we stayed at was forgettable, the Fullerton is totally memorable! Would stay here again! Pay a little more for access to the executive lounge, well worth it!

One of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed at! Spacious rooms in a great location. Peter at Valet was the best staff member during my stay. He is so kind and will take care of everything for you no worries at all! Made my stay more relaxed and more enjoyable! He definitely needs a pay rise! Chocolate covered strawberries were a great add on to the room. Absolutely delicious! Will be coming back here again

What can I say...the Fullerton is a 5 star hotel in the center of Sydney CBD you must experience. The manager John O'shea and his team has once again ensured my wife and I had a wonderful experience. Hot tip: you must try/add the breakfast, fantastic quality for the cost... don't think twice. Enjoy.

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fullerton. The location is fantastic, we did not take an Uber or taxi the whole time we stayed there as everything was in walking distance - we walked to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, the Botanic Gardens, Barangaroo and more plus right outside our hotel was the best shopping area you could imagine. 2 min walk to the Westfield building was fantastic. The hotel itself is stunning, very elegant and the lobby/bar & restaurant area was exceptional. The staff were also exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms are great, had everything we needed. Only 2 things that could be improved were the pillows which were super uncomfortable and the shower which would not stay the same temperature. It would fluctuate from cold to really hot the whole time we were in the shower, pretty annoying but minor considering the rest of our experience was great. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Sydney.

Beautiful luxurious setting right in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Abundance of shopping right outside and only 10 minutes walk to Circular Quay. Beautiful rooms with a warm old world opulence to them. Great buffet breakfast Spectacular lobby area. Helpful attentive staff. Rooms have USB A charge points by the bedside for charging devices and a great Bluetooth Harman/Kardon sound system.

Yelp
Amazing two night stay at the Fullerton Hotel Sydney. Housed in the former General Post Office, the hotel is steeped in history. The former GPO was constructed in phases. Beginning in 1866, the first phase opened in 1874. It was the first major building to open in Sydney. In 1891, the clock tower rang its bells for the first time. The Grand Staircase is stunning. Heritage Tours guide visitors through the historic icon. Today, you can stay in the historic GPO or the added modern tower. Our upper room suites were so quiet and comfortable. Definitely add breakfast to your reservation. So nice to sit in the elevated lobby overlooking the courtyard of the historic General Post Office. The hot entrees, cook to order omelettes or eggs, salad bar, cheese bar, fruits and pastries were so delicious. The spring rolls were so hot and tasty. Chocolate croissants filled with chocolate creme were divine. The onion twists were addictive. Love the cooked veggies, hashbrowns and fresh pineapple. Ask for fresh orange or pineapple juice, a latte, cappuccino or hot cocoa. Love the TWG selection of teas. Earl Grey. English breakfast. Waterfruit green tea. Original sencha. Grand jasmine. So many choices. Location is so convenient. Easy to catch the Hop On Hop Off bus, walk to the park, visit the Sydney Tower, or explore the stunning Queen Victoria Arcade. So many shopping malls close by as well. Sudeep and Milos were very helpful with my parents' electronics when they had challenges that I could not address. Thanks for the industrial strength adapter for their electronics. Thanks also for the Happy Anniversary welcome card and cake to help my parents celebrate a very special 60th anniversary. Such a sweet surprise! Highly recommend this Sydney landmark for an unforgettable stay in the heart of the city.

Yelp
This review is waaaaay past due. Overall I really enjoyed this hotel. It was in walking distance to everything. Food courts, attractions, local transportation, shopping, literally everything. Guess that is the plus side to staying at a hotel in the CBD district. I enjoy the many amenities the hotel had to offer. The restaurant and bar on the inside, as well as meeting rooms to hang out with friends and family. The blackout curtains in the room were fantastic! I'm the type of person that likes to sleep and pitch black room. The only thing I dislike about the room, especially being a five star hotel, there's a fact that there was not a microwave in the room. There was a mini fridge. I don't really have any pictures in the hotel or the room. The two pictures I attached one inch of you for my room and the other is a picture out front of the hotel.

Yelp
Had a 4 night stay at the Fullerton and while it's a pricey 5-star totally worth it if you're visiting Sydney! Right in the CBD so it's about a 20-25 minute walk max to most places that you'd want to visit near the center! Hotel staff is friendly, room was huge and immaculately clean. I booked the Heritage Deluxe King Room and it was perfect! Will 10/10 be back.

Yelp
Yelp must be new to Australia because never before had I had the opportunity to be the first to review in some many large locations. While I'm glad I have this chance, I have a backlog of reviews now! I guess... not necessarily a bad thing to have. My family decided to have an extended vacation in Australia, a country we used to go to quite often when we were young. This was our chance to relive that memory and bring on the nostalgia. The Fullerton (formerly and still known to many as the Westin) is a hotel that has prime location in Sydney. It's pretty much "not too far" from most popular locations in the city so definitely a plus from that standpoint. We had 3 days in the city so we planned our itinerary accordingly. After taking a taxi from the airport (which was about a 35 min ride), we arrived at the front door where we were promptly greeted by hotel staff. We checked in which was quick and painless but unfortunately because we arrived in the morning, our room was not ready yet. The hotel was full mostly because it was Australia day AND Chinese New Year so there were a lot of out of town guests in town. This was in spite of coronavirus scares which I'm glad business was otherwise proceeding as normal. We got to the club floor which includes 24 hour access to their lounge. In the lounge, you can enjoy light meals during breakfast lunch and dinner. You can also go there for happy hour (or non happy hour) to enjoy a drink before or after your meals. Food was great and service was excellent. The rooms are spacious and as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber, luxurious. Wifi was accessible and fast. Because we were traveling as a large group, we either went by Uber or maxi cab to all our destination. You're about a 15 min walk to tons of dinner places in the area or you can take a 15 min cab to the Opera House and Darling Harbor (where the Sea Life Aquarium/Zoo is). We had had a great experience here. My only gripe is that there are certain times of the day where there isn't food in the hotel (unless you order room service). The cafe can close and the bar sometimes won't have food at certain times of the day. We had odd schedule hours and would have been convenient for us to have something to eat in the later afternoon. Despite that, the experience was wonderful and look forward to our next stay there!
