Google
Many places to choose from while in Saint Andrews, but this place has a patio right on the water with a beautiful view of the local harbour and surrounding area. Food was delish with friendly service, many choices on the menu! Seafood chowder was very hearty with lots of ingredients.

It's definitely one of our favorite restaurants in St Andrews. The food is always good, and their terrace might be the nicest one. Trees are growing within and around the terrace, making it a beautiful cool place to sit down with a drink and have an amazing meal. The view is absolutely fantastic. The staff is super friendly and does not make you feel rushed. We have waited to get into the restaurant and it is very worth it.

Google
We had supper there and it was delicious. The amount of food for the price is very generous. Not only that it is very well cooked. We had the fish and chips and it was delicious and my daughter had the chicken burger, which she loved. The scenery is so nice on the terrace, to be able to sit and eat and view the sea. The service was excellent. The restaurant was very clean and the location was excellent. Highly recommended if people are visiting St. Andrews!

Google
10/10! Fish and chips were incredible! Service, incredible! Seafood chowder, DELICIOUS! (Didn’t love the lobster roll unfortunately, but everything else is great!)

We sat on the outside patio and it was so lovely. Sun shining and a light breeze. I ordered the fish and chips, it came with coleslaw and homemade tarter sauce which was perfect. Fish was so flaky and very light batter, absolutely amazing! My husband ordered the seafood chowder and BLT sandwich. Chowder was very good, filled with seafood to the max. Creamy and hot. Our server, he was very friendly and quick. A very pleasant place, food was delicious and reasonably priced!

Google
What an absolutely perfect patio! Great views and lovely breeze off the bay. Unfortunately the seafood chowder and I didn't get along very well, and my stomach wasn't good for a few days. Not sure if it was an allergy to something or what, but perhaps worth asking what all is in it before you order it. I would go back for the service and the view, but would order something else.

Went for wonderful whale watching and ate here. Food was alright. We had fish and chips, seafood platter, lobster sandwich, and rib eye steak. Paid nearly over than 150 cad, was expensive. Skip the lobster sandwich, not worth the hype. Seating were good. Was very busy so it was very loud and service was slow. Overall it was OK.

Google
We visited last year and it was wonderful! Very scenic and beautiful spot. The prices are a bit high and portions aren’t super big but that’s actually a bonus. I wouldn’t want to walk around with food possibly going bad, or travel back home with old food. It’s actually perfect. I love this place. It will always be my go to spot

Yelp
This place was packed for lunch outside with a long wait, but we were able to get a table inside right away. Our server was very nice. I had the special lobster grilled cheese and my husband had the fish tocos (we shared 1/2 and 1/2 as you can see in the picture) the grilled cheese was good, wish there was a choice of bread. The fish tacos were more of a wrap than a taco, but were tasty. The paintings on the wall were a nice touch. Great use of color and brush strokes. (And for sale- but wouldn't fit in the car)

Yelp
Food was super good. The lobster sandwich I had was something out of a fairytale. My lady friend had a soup that she thought about for the next 3 days. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Been here multiple times. Food and service are always solid. Ambiance changes depending on crowd, which can include younger children but that's standard in the town.

Yelp
Lobster roll was great. Very fresh. Coleslaw tasty. Best crunchy, hot fries I've had in a while. Friendly service. Table by the water on a lovey September day. Just perfect.

Yelp
Whenever we're in St. Andrews a stop at The Gables is a must! The view is amazing, the food is delicious, and the service always great. We started with a Dark & Stormy to warm up on a rainy day and then enjoyed Fish & Chips and Bull Burgers ...everything was very, very good. Our waitress Lauren was super-sweet and even offered suggestions of new must-see spots in town. Thanks again!

Yelp
Luckily walked in with tomato basil as the soup of the day! It was delicious and paired well with the egg salad for a brunch attempt. My friends also enjoyed the lobster grilled cheese. While the fish in the fish 'taco' was tasty, it didn't fit the typical fish taco description. It was more of a fish wrap. Because it was a rainy day we opted to sit inside, but I happily still enjoyed the water view and interesting art displays.

Yelp
We waited 45 minutes to sit after being told 10 minutes. After we were seated, we waited at a table for another 20 minutes and had to ask someone working who our server was because no one came to our table. There were people that came in after us that sat, ate and paid their bill before we ordered. I understand about being short on staff but it was not a good experience for myself or our young kids.

Yelp
One of the most charming places I have ever been to. We sat in the deck our waitress was charming. Serene, peaceful surroundings. Oh yeah the food delicious and generous. It's on a 15 hour drive here. I'd do it again in a second.

Yelp
Amazing scallops and apple pie. Great service and a fabulous patio. This was the perfect spot for dinner.

Yelp
We made our second trip to The Gables, and it was as amazing as the first in 2022. We had Jon as our server again, and he did not disappoint. We even sat at the same table. Great food, the best scallops I've ever had, as well as the best white wine Sangria. Definitely on our list of regular spots when in St. Andrews!

Yelp
While visiting St. Andrews, I made sure to stop by The Gables for lunch. We headed to the back patio dock since it was a beautiful day outside, and luckily we beat the rush as there was a huge lineup when we left. We ordered the seafood platter and seafood chowder to share. This was more than enough for two people and we left completely stuffed. The seafood platter consisted of two decent sized pieces of haddock, and a number of large shrimps and scallops. The seafood chowder was really flavourful, not too thick, and full of seafood as well. The service was top notch too! The east coast puts Toronto to shame in terms of friendliness and service :P. From our entire trip, out meal here was definitely one of the favourites!

Yelp
Try the lobster club, its delish Best fish and chips in town Server was funny. (not too funny to where its annoying, just funny enough) Will go again

Yelp
Excellent food. Great service (HAVE to ask for Dawn). Locally made cuisine, fresh fresh seafood, excellent soups. Daily specials. Water Street only has so many places to eat at, and this one comes up with a positive experience every year we go.

Yelp
Amazing view, average service, mediocre food. If it wasn't for the view, this place would be out of business. The beer was awful: flat and old tasting. There were out of many specials early in the evening. I got the lobster club, and it had barely any lobster and consisted mostly of bread. My friend got a seafood combo. It was okay, but not special for the location and price. We left quite disappointed by this supposed great restaurant. Major bummer as this was our only evening in town and had walked past several other restaurants that likely would have been better. Bottom line: come here for a water and a view.

Yelp
Always great food, fantastic service, well worth any wait. So glad they made it through covid and the economy. We'll be back year after year!

Yelp
We had a completely wonderful experience here. Got seated immediately by the window so an amazing view of the storm just coming in across the bay. Our server Dawn was attentive, funny and friendly. The folks at surrounding tables shared in conversation. The fish and chips I had were crispy and tasty. My test for well prepped fish is whether the batter seperates from the fish. It shouldn't and it didn't. My wife thought her burger was also tasty and well cooked. Topped off with the house Pinot and blueberry pie, it was all in all one of our best eating experiences in this vacation.

Yelp
Great place to stop for lunch in the quaint town of St. Andrews. Service fast and friendly, ask for Jon! nice scenery on water and food was delicious. If you like curry the Green curry coconut seafood stew is a must!

Yelp
Run, don't walk away from this place. The setting is picturesque, but don't let that fool you. Horrible service - 15 mins to have a drink order taken - only to have drinks never show up. When I asked if they were busy the waitress said "it was a very slow night." Group across from us had 4 lap dogs with them at the table. 2 of the dogs defecated on the floor. I Can't believe they let dogs in the restaurant - emmm... hello health inspectors? Food took over an hour to come after ordering and was gross... Chicken curry was more like a stew, with horrible stringy dark meat. Kids burger was as hard as a hockey puck with soggy French fries that tasted of old frying oil. Crab cakes my sister in law tried were obviously for a box. My wife had bruschetta that was the only decent thing I tasted from gables. There are many places to eat at in St. Andrews. I suggest you give this place a miss.

Yelp
It's fine. You're in tourist country where there's a short season. Pay for the ocean side view but don't expect much more. Service is mediocre at best and the food follows suit. There's nothing special here. I hoped for something different from this small retreat community but was disappointed. It's an uninspiring menu followed by uninspired delivery and execution. If you need to eat, it's food with nothing particular to complain about... but I hear the pizza place nearby is worth a gander.

Yelp
Pretty darn good mussels! The location and ambiance is great..overlooking St Andrews Harbor. The fish and chips were ok.. Not over breaded but a little chintzy portion wise. The chowder lacked both flavor and enough seafood. Middle of the road seaside town chow. Decent enough

Yelp
This was a very nice place to stop at St. Andrew's. The service was breathtaking as we were offered some eggs for next morning's breakfast all because we asked the waitress if she knew the location of any grocery stores we can check out for breakfast stuff (instead she went and brought the manager who then offered us some extra provisions. Who does that? Amazing) . Food there was fresh as most places in St. Andrews. I enjoyed the Salmon with a side of rice and vegetables.

Yelp
The only saving grace of this restaurant is the fantastic patio which gives you a gorgeous view of the bay of fundy. If it weren't for that I don't think they would stay in business. The service was painfully slow and the burger was pathetic - I don't think I've ever used that word to describe food but in this case it is accurate. If you want a good view then give it a go but if you're looking for good food try the Station on King.

Yelp
So let me preface this review by saying we did not actually eat here; this review is more towards staff & situation. The location is amazing - right on the water in the middle of town - but we showed up on a Friday night and were greeted by an angry waitress asking how we got in. We let her know we opened the gate and she was surprised that it wasn't locked then proceeded to let us know that the kitchen was 'backed up' so they would not be able to seat us. However, we could see into the restaurant and patio and it wasn't even busy. We asked if we should even bother coming back or whether that would be it for the evening to which she looked confused for a second then said they would be able to seat us in 30 minutes. We came back in 30 minutes and they then told us the kitchen was closed. Huh? What a waste of our time. If your restaurant isn't able to cope with not even half full capacity of the dining room then you've got a much larger problem than just rude staff.

Yelp
This was pretty decent but be prepared to wait. My lobster roll was great. The chowder soup was huge I split it with my hubby. Forget the burger not the best.

Yelp
Drove into St Andrews later than we had planned and needed a place to grab a bite- they kept the kitchen open late for us and the service was great! The view was great and I'd recommend the fish and chips for sure.

Yelp
This review is an update to my review I posted last year. I'm not really sure what happened to the other reviewers, but again we had a great time. It was lunch time, the restaurant was fairly busy and the service was great. The wait time was minimal, the food was excellent and the waitress was very friendly, and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good food, and an amazing view. So far we are 2 for 2 at this establishment.

Yelp
Gables offers traditional seafood in a traditional waterside setting. Reminds me of the old New England seafood restaurants. The views are gorgeous. Meals were good and reasonably priced. Many gluten free items. Good customer service. If you like traditional seafood, give Gables a try!

Yelp
This spots great not that long of waiting time. Great Waitresses and blankets if if u get cold

Yelp
I pride myself on being able to sniff out diamonds in the rough, but I guess my nose was really off recently when a friend and I were looking for a decent meal in St Andrews. The Gables gives off the appearance of a kitschy local spot with a good patio. Since there aren't a lot of options for food in and around the small town, you'd think it'd be easy to stay ahead of the competition on basic things like service, but that clearly wasn't the case at the Gables. We were greeted by someone asking if we were waiting to pay our bill instead of being asked where we'd like to be seated. We self guided ourselves to the back patio where it was fairly busy, but for the ratio of waitresses to tables, I'm not sure why getting a drink and food order in took so long. The one upside was that when I requested a GF option for crab cakes, they were able to comply, eagerly. Other than that, we had a long wait to receive our drinks, and then our food. Once the food arrived, we were significantly underwhelmed by the quality and quantity for the price: two tiny, slightly under cooked crab cakes with a piddly side salad. Oh, and if things weren't strange enough - the waitress never came back to check on us once over the next 25 minutes. We got up to find a way to pay and leave, and although we spoke with management about the lack of service, they didn't offer to comp our drinks or apologize in the slightest.

Yelp
Nice view and good service but the food was very bland. Had the fish and chips and there was not a speck of seasoning on the fries. The fish was a reasonable portiom but again lacking in flavor. Prices were a bit inflated but comparable to others in the area since its a tourist spot.

liz T.

Yelp
We had lunch there on our drive south back home from Canada to NY. The view is so nice. Eat outside if you can. The service was ok... but the prices and the seafood chowder was awesome. My 4 year old son had the kids fish and chips. His fish was so fresh and not oily! Seriously good. He even loved my chowder.
google avatar

Tasha B.

Yelp
Love it here! I get fish and chips every time - light and fluffy and leave very full. The view is amazing and if the seabreeze is a bit chilly on the deck, they have blankies!

Peter T.

Yelp
Great food ! The whole belly fried clams were the best I've had. The were light and tasty. Wait staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Service was quick and prices were reasonable. Location was fantastic. We watched the sun set from table on the patio. Special shout out to our server Dawn. She made a special drink for lovely wife. I highly recommend this establishment

Deb B.

Yelp
Great lunch here overlooking the bay. Our waitress, Jeannie, was great. Spilt the mussels and fried scallops. Delicious. Highly recommend. Very quaint spot on the water.

Yelp
Good food and friendly service. Had salmon burger highly recommend. My wife had the lobster roll, and it was spot on. Great place for the kids!

Yelp
AMAZING location. Some of the food is perfect and other dishes really disappointing... my favs are the PEI Mussels and the homemade pot-pies and desserts. Clams have gone downhill since last year, and the seafood specials are underwhelming in terms of flavor.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Fairly decent tourist fare with a beautiful patio deck overlooking the water. Both my wife's turkey salad sandwich and my mussels were OK, but nothing to write home about. The service was excellent and the views made up for the shortcomings of the food.

Dane C.

Yelp
Waited 15 minutes to have anyone even acknowledge us at the door, then told some will be by to seat us by owner/manager. No one comes, manager finally seats us on the patio. We wait another 15 minutes and no one comes to the table, even to tell us they will be back soon. We get up and walk to the exit and a waiter comes out of the bar to tell us he will be with us soon. Too late. I would give it zero stars if that was an option.

Sheila M.

Yelp
Nice waitress, but steak was way overdone. Should have gone with seafood. Don't order steak. Beautiful setting.

Lee C.

Yelp
The restaurant is fairly cozy, would've loved to sit outside on the deck because of the lovely view , however it was raining , pouring rain. We were seated inside very quickly. Server was friendly and helpful. My partner ordered a one pound lobster and fries and an order or steamed mussels. I ordered a lobster roll. He was happy with his meal, my food was fine as well but a bit pricey for a couple of tbsp of lobster in a hotdog bun. That's probably expected during tourist season. Over all, the service was quick and friendly and they have a coat rack of throws to wrap up in for sitting outside which is a nice touch.

Evan D.

Yelp
Incredible food and amazing service. The food is great but the real winner is the location and ambiance. We go every time we're in St. Andrews.

Kate W.

Yelp
Good food, comparable prices (tourist season), and a beautiful view. Add blankets provided after sunset and free wifi and everyone was happy. We thought the kids meals were a little sparse but the Thai seafood and fried clams (regular entrees) were on par with other places in area. Service was great!

Rick G.

Yelp
Ambiance is good, and the staff is friendly (if a bit slow), but I've had several bad experiences here that have turned me off what was once a favorite restaurant - such as the time myself, my wife, and my young daughter were seated at a table for four (made of two smaller tables) partway through eating. The restaurant was full, when someone walked up, unceremoniously moved my daughter's food, and dragged one of the two tables out from in front of us! Our waitress apologized forvthe rudeness, but went on to tell us that that was the owner, and he wanted the table for a friend of his who had just shown up. I've never been treated so rudely. Needless to say, though we have property in town and visit quite regularly, we've never been back.

Brian N.

Yelp
I didn't get to check YELP before going to dinner in St. Andrew so we went with the recommendation of the motel owner. Yikes! The Gables has a wonderful patio overlooking the bay and they even offer blankets to snuggle up under while eating your dinner. Cute touch? The service was good and the food was served quickly. BUT.....the food was sub-par. My buddies fish (fish and chips) was overdone and chewy. He sent it back and the waitress was very nice about it. When it came out again it was done correctly and was quite tasty. The fried clams were terrible. Listed as "whole belly" you could not find the clams for the breading and they were soaked in their fry oil. Fries were also a bit soggy. Their wine list is lacking in anything medium - high end and they did not have a beer that I felt was drinkable. Do yourself a favor and leave a little early for dinner and head down to St. George.
