The food here is decent. We were not wowed by it but it’s pretty good. I wish they had more main dish vegan options than just a burger and salad. The drinks were good and our group enjoyed the oysters. The service was excellent. The bathroom downstairs is dirty and smells awful.

Google
We had a great lunch on the shaded patio, and even our two dogs were welcomed. The famous PEI lobster rolls with blueberry ale were excellent, and the mussels in sauce were a highlight. The kids enjoyed fish and chips, chicken fingers, and pasta. A great family-friendly spot with tasty food and a relaxed vibe.

Google
Best fries in town!!🍟 Absolutely loved their fries here, they came out hot, fresh, and were very well seasoned. Burger, noachos, and dip were extremely tasty, I felt very satisfied after eating. Love the old antique vibe, it is very welcoming and warm😊 Also love how they sell their own beer they make! Waiter was super kind and outgoing🥰 Highly recommend this pub!🍻

*Tourist Experience* > The hard root beer is a must try! Super yummy! > Pass on the tuna tartare. This was super disappointing. It was large chunks of tuna no dressing on-top, and quite bland. Tartare should be finely minced and have some sort of marinade or sauce mixed in. > The mac and cheese was very tasty! It was rich and piping hot! > Lobster roll was very tasty. The lobster meat is very finely chopped, so if you’re expecting chunks, this is not it. But the flavour was amazing! > The French fries were tasty! > Pass on the mussels, they were pretty dried out, and there was maybe 1/4 c. of sauce in the bottom. I’ve had better elsewhere and would not reorder these. Our server was lovely! The building was beautiful and overall, I’d recommend to visit.

Google
Not your typical 5 star rating! Look, I've been touring all eastern provinces in the last two weeks, and this place stands out by FAR! Service was the greatest, but the FOOD was above and beyond! I cannot believe some people gave less than 5 stars on this place!

David B.

Google
Wow. We left two other places in Charlottetown before deciding to eat here. No second thoughts. Per our collective memory we had the best fish & chips (breading, fish and tartar sauce) AND oysters. Should I say that we also had PEI mussels? Excellent experience. We would come here again tomorrow if our ship wasn’t leaving tonight!

Google
Great experience. The clam chowder was pretty special. The guacamole was also very good, and they had craft beer as well. Well done!

Eric B.

Google
We really enjoyed our experience here. It felt intimate and hidden from the tourist throngs. The seafood chowder was amazing, and the beers were cheap until the early evening. A nice spot in the middle of downtown.

Mary L.

Yelp
Ryan is the best server! So fun and helpful. Oysters are incredible. Fish and chips is a go to. It is loud but a good place to talk loud and for large groups as well as small. Not disappointed. Great beer!

Yelp
This place was great! Great old school pub style vibes inside. Service was very friendly from the host to the bartender to our server. Food was delicious! Seafood chowder was so hearty and flavorful. We got 2 of each broiled oyster, yummmmmmmm!!! We also got the beet salad with goat cheese and candied pecans and loved that as well. The fish tacos were also a hit! Sauces were delicious.

Yelp
The staff were friendly. But Emily our server was amazing the place is cute and nice.We started off with fried claims - they were meaty but greasy . Also order oyster which small bit nice .My wife Falafel tacos which said were good . I had the fish and chips in brown bag - the fries were amazing .the meal was great and the service was amazing

Yelp
Terrible food. I have a big appetite and couldn't even finish my plate. The amount of salt on the food is actually wild. I thought the chef was playing a joke on us. That being said, the servers and front of house staff are lovely. They are the only reason this place gets a second star.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great find. Historic building houses this brewery. Rustic interior gives it a warm and welcoming vibe. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The beer selection offers a wide variety of choices. I had a DIPA which was citrusy and delicious. The East Coast Oysters were the perfect complement. If I lived here I would definitely be a regular.

Sharon L.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the beer flight was awesome. Found this location on Yelp and it lived up to all of its reviewed. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Well prepared food, Good menu and the service is outstanding. Not wheelchair accessible. Very cosy decor

Yelp
The staff here was sooo nice and friendly. Sat outside with our dog for a beer and every staff member came out to greet us and see the dog. Beer was really good too!

Yelp
My heart will Gahan.... For their beer & nachos (I cannot claim this statement as they names a burger "my heart will Gahan" but hey it fits the bill when you have to hype a place up that honestly doesn't even need hyping) I live around the corner from Gahan on Sydney St in PEI and while they do have a few locations in the East Coast I can assure it is a unique, well serviced, and delicious experience every time!! It was actually one of the first places I ate at when I first moved to the Island and it was in the summer time so I got to enjoy the outdoor patio and live music that graces Sydney st in the warmer months. I frequently enjoy Gahan brews which are brewed by PEI brewing on the Island and served on draft and in cans all over the island and dang they make a good IPA. My most recent visit was actually the first time dining indoors with some friends for a mid week celebration and we got blessed with some fantastic live music, really awesome service, and freakin great food! I will say, the summer can mean some slower service just based on how busy they get (often have to wait for a table) but in the winter time you can get seated and have food and drinks pretty fast. Sydney St Gahan is in an old historic house so you walk in and it has a cozy vibe that is fun and energetic without taking away from the intimate setting it can offer making it perfect for both groups, families, or a date night. The big windows and decor are warm, where if you are lucky enough to go at Xmas you'll get all the Merry vibes that Ch'town has to offer. The basement is also really cool, where you go to use the rest rooms and can view some cool brew tanks and history too. Note: I am not sure if this an accessible restaurant for those with physical limitations. While I enjoy all their brews, the IPAs have my heart. 1772 is a PEI staple and for those that like a juicer brew, the Snowbird is fantastic both clocking in at about 6-6.5%. The seasonal's are SO GOOD TO! The Gold Ale is a smooth easy drinker and my fav, the West (coast... I can't remember the name) IPA, is a double that is fruity and hoppy, less bitter finish than the 1772 with notes of winter YUM!! (Watch out, she's a 7% though so have fun ;p ) The menu at Gahan changes with the season but they have year round staples and are really putting together awesome flavours here. The Nachos are great, perfect layering and LOTS of toppings. The beer cheese is great and no lack of olives and jalapeños on there either. Seafood is always on the menu and they have fresh Oyster and Beer specials throughout the week. Calamari is delicious with a house chipotle aioli, and fries are crispy and deliciously seasoned. The sweet taters are also so good here too, if you are a fan def worth the extra $. The lobster dip and bacon jalapeño dips are def crowd pleasers and I have no complaints about any of the food I have gotten here! Notably, the menu changes with the season but also is accommodating to those who have dietary needs like vegetarian and GF. Actually, they have a ton of delicious veggie options (not sure about vegan) and menu is always updated online if you need to peep at it before you go. So what are you waiting for?! GRAB SOME FRIENDS, grab a brew, and enjoy!! Bravo Gahan! I will be back (maybe I'll even get a summer job to enjoy further... ) Putting the FOOD in Canada's Food Island for sure!

Yelp
Beautiful and historic. This a very welcoming restaurant with great service and cheery attitude.

Marissa K.

Yelp
nice atmosphere and friendly, prompt service. Food was very good. Wanted something light for dinner-falafel tacos. Pretty good, made better with more dill yogurt sauce on the side. Burger was very good.

Mitchell T.

Yelp
Pretty good place for a drink and a couple oysters. I had the flight of the Honey Wheat, Blueberry wheat, Oatmeal stout, and a seasonal IPA. All were delicious but the blueberry wheat might have been the most interesting and best beer of my trip to PEI. Oysters were 10/10, and although it was the only thing we ate here, I definitely want to go back to try more dishes, every one that passed us looked amazing. No complaints but also no crazy highlights in our short time here. Service was great.

Yelp
A very rustic, old school Irish pub. Tried the fish and chips which were good and huge (bigger than they appear in pictures!), though a bit too oily to consume in one sitting. I also tried the pretzel bites - the bites we're good and plentiful, but the cheese sauce left much to be desired.

Kevin R.

Yelp
Fish and chips were absolutely fantastic. Also enjoyed the cauliflower wings and local beer!

Carol L.

Yelp
We arrived PEI not knowing anyone. Heard the Gahan House from other visitors. Not disappointed at all. Good food, friendly service and wonderful ambiance.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for Beer Battered Fish n' Chips! Service was great and the atmosphere was lovely for a large group of us (they accommodated us in a back room).

Yelp
Nice setting and obviously a favorite for tourists and locals alike. I thought the food was fine. Just fine. Not great. We were in another town where another location of Gahan was, just days later, and decided it wasn't worth re-visiting. I had the fried chicken sandwich, which the server recommended. It was tasty, but fell apart as I was eating it and I had to tackle with a knife and fork. My husband had the curry special, which just turned out to be vegetables and rice. We were grateful to have food because we were particularly hungry. But it wasn't anything memorable.

Yelp
Love this place! Located near beautiful St. Dunstan's basilica, it is a great place to stop and eat while walking the streets of charming Charlottetown. Start with the hard root beer. It goes well with everything else I'm about to share. For an appetizer, you can't go wrong with the mussels. With the Tarragon white wine cream, these are some of the best ever. The waiter recommended the Chicken and Chorizo Penne. Now, I'll be honest with you. I was a little hesitant going with a dish with "Cajun cream"'in the Maritimes, but it is an excellent dish. I highly recommend. My wife had the seafood chowder, which was incredible! I'm not sure if you can get this as a side, but definitely get it as a main meal or a side, one way or the other. One caveat ~ it comes out scalding hot. Just keep that in mind before you take a first big spoonful of it. But the soup is pure perfection. Easy five star here. Food is out of this world, service was excellent, and the location is right where you want it.
google avatar

Kaitlin B.

Yelp
Delicious Haddock Tacos! Fries are also some of the best I have had. Tuna poke was also good but on the small side in terms of fish portion.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Aweful. Slow service and overcooked and burnt food. The atmosphere is nice but that's where the nice stuff ends.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Great food and cozy atmosphere. Service was seamless and never too far away. Charlottetown is a wonderful place and The Gahan House is just off the main drag. Everything is walkable.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Had some really great oysters. The home brewed beer is excellent and the fish and chips are excellent. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely return next time I'm in town

Bob M.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick drink. Found some great beers. Staff had good recommendations to tailor one of our flights!

Yelp
I love this place!!!!! 5/5 stars all around. Cozy ambiance, fantastic food with superb quality, friendly service, and reasonably priced. This place started out as a brewery, and as such brew their own fantastic beer - I like that the menu lists a number of beer pairings, and there are flights as well. The PEI mussels are to die for (my favorite is the tarragon white wine cream) - so plump and fresh. The brown bag fish and chips is also a must get, probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. Their burger is another standout - the "local burger" is made with fresh ingredients from around the island including MacPhee's ground beef (Cornwall), Glasgow Glen Farm chili gouda (New Glasgow), their own 1772 IPA ketchup, beer mustard, whiskey onion jam, and beer pickles on brioche... just wow!

Yelp
We were persuaded into this quaint looking establishment from its amazing architectural looks and the reviews online. Maria immediately greeted us and walked us to a cozy part of the restaurant. She made some suggestions and the wife and I went with it. We had the lobster roll with Gahan spiced fries and Each had their local Beach Chair Lager brewed right here in Prince Edward Island. The food tasted fresh and everything turned out superb.... We will continue having lobster roll through this 14 day cruise and will rate this lobster roll accurately at the end. As it stands now it is the best.

Yelp
My mother sent me this to my surprise while I was isolating. They delivered right to my door and got the order completely correct. Everything was hot and delish. One of my favourites here for sure. My favourite is the pecan dessert, definitely recommend!

Yelp
We called for a table but they would not take a reservation for 4 people. It was quite busy when we arrived but we were seated in about 15 minutes. The service was friendly and helpful and the washrooms were on the lower level. My sons ordered the hard root beer and raspberry sour from the beer menu. My son was upset the root beer was made with vodka and had no beer. We had the cauliflower app which was fairly sour. The baked Brie was enjoyed immensely by hubby and son....topped with blueberries and candied pecans and served with toast. They ran out of pretzel bites which we really wanted to try. Hubby had the chorizo pasta which was huge...he enjoyed it. Both sons had the burger but said it did not taste as good as it was described. I ordered the burrito bowl as it was gf and I told them to hold the sour cream. It was made with Cajun spiced fried rice and it was spicy! But also delicious. My guys shared the brownie which was a large portion. I had the gf coffee cake which was sweet and yummy in a caramel sauce.

Yelp
Had a great afternoon snack and some really great beer the day after Canada day here at this beautiful brew pub! ***We were in Halifax for the fireworks on July 1st In Charlottetown the weather was bad on Canada day so they put the fireworks off until the second so we got to see them from our 7th floor room at the Delta How great was that! 2 Canada Days! Oh sorry, got a little off track there so back to Gahan! They had some really great oysters, juicy and plump... the east coast oysters are bigger than west coast but both are great! We got them baked and had some of all three they had to offer & I would highly recommend!! I had the Brown Ale on tap it was a serous beer and the second I thought was excellent was the Island red, that would probably be my go-to beer if I lived in Charlottetown. Loved the atmosphere and the people are great but all the people in Charlottetown I've met have been super friendly. Love this Brew pub! Love this City and its people!!
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Was here for lunch as part of a tour group but we could choose from a limited menu. Opted for the Burrito bowl. Absolutely loved it! Wasn't any burrito around but it was so much better! Totally stuffed myself as I didn't want to stop eating. Not a seafood eater so I was ever so pleased to have such a delicious alternative. Of course the beer was quite tasty too!

Quintus Q.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in PEI. Ask for the curry mussels as an appetizer, they are so good! It's not in the menu but available upon request. Great service and fantastic tasting food! Highly recommend! Shout out to our server, Ryan! The service was great.

M B.

Yelp
Good food. Good music. Good service. What more could you ask for? Chowder is amongst the best we have ever had. Huge selection of beer on tap to choose from. Fish cakes were great. Can't go wrong coming here.
google avatar

Aileen D.

Yelp
The brown bag fish & chips was pretty stellar. Great portion size. I felt like I could have split it with someone since the fish pieces were so large. I was a little less impressed by the french fries. Service was quick but could have been a little more attentive/checked in a bit more, given how quiet it was when I stopped by.
google avatar

How To C.

Yelp
I love this place. There was a very short wait time and we got a seating of seven without a reservation! I am a very picky eater and they got my order right on the first try! My only complaint is that the entrance smells bad, but I understand that some people may like the smell. Overall I enjoyed the food and also for adults, they have a large selection of beer. (I am underage so I couldn't get it and I didn't.) 4 stars!!! I am totally coming back tomorrow
google avatar

Jacquie R.

Yelp
I have been here a few times through the years. I recommend going in summer so you can sit on the patio. There is live music often. The inside is a bit too noisy and cramped for my liking but most of the food is great. I loved the cauliflower tacos. A friend loved the beef melt. My daughter however had a homemade burger that was way too salty. I would have given them a higher rating otherwise. They have a decent selection of food for those looking for something traditional or a little different. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You get a good amount of food for the price.
google avatar

Teena D.

Yelp
I had supper this evening at the Gahan House. They are repairing the front entrance so you have to go in through the rear entrance. There was a 30 minute wait for a table so I had a beer at the bar ... a Sir John A's Honey Wheat Ale. It was good. When a table became available, I ordered supper. I ordered nachos for one (with no onions or olives) with spicy cheese dip and salsa. I also ordered chicken wings with 1772 IPA BBQ sauce. Both were good. They have growlers from other providers on the wall on the way to the basement. They brew their beer in the basement. Suzanne was my server. She was friendly and took good care of me.

Barb J.

Yelp
Typically great food. Good service. This visit was hopefully an anomaly. Wait staff not skilled, lacked communication skills and likely experience. Waitress blamed business saying lack of staffing but still handed a debit machine offering an 18%percent tip option. Their staffing issues should NOT impact the paying customer who is paying top dollar. Nor should staff be sharing those issues. Brutal and expensive. Waited 20 minutes just to have the poured pints brought to us. I waved the staff down and pointed out we were still waiting for our beverages at least she said "they are coming" and walked away in the opposite direction of the bar. Just not what we expect at those prices and with the expected tip.

Michelle P.

Yelp
We had a hard time finding a place to eat on a chilly, rainy labour day in Charlottetown, there was going to be a bit of a wait, so we put our name on the list and tried a few other places. When we got our text to come back we were thankful to be inside this warm, quaint, funky restaurant. We tried the lobster dip, Mac and cheese with braised beef, and I had one of the best charcuterie boards I've had, paired with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The staff were friendly, decor was cool, and it was delicious.
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Chicken Tacos was the flavour of the day here. Good not awesome. Good beer to go along with the meal
google avatar

Philip C.

Yelp
I had oysters for the first time here and now I'm hooked! Great selection of local beers and loved the ambiance of the place.
google avatar

J N.

Yelp
The sticky ribs didn't exactly fall off the bones and it was hard. Do they think that people who are drunk after too much beer also lost their taste buds???
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Came here for a beer flight after lunch. They have a nice selection of beers across many varieties. You must try the hard root beer- it was delicious! I wish they sold it by the bottle so that i could drink some of it right now!
google avatar

Roxy M.

Yelp
I'm so glad we found a familiar place in PEI. We were staying in Charlottetown for 3 nights and almost every night we have horrible service at each dinner restaurant. Either they forgot about us, took forever to get our bill or the food was just way over priced. Finally the last night we came across The Gahan House (we're from Halifax so we already knew this would be a good bet) They had an oyster special with beers, the service was wonderful and attentive and the nachos were so good! I don't remember them being that tasty but I'm glad I tried them again! PS - If you're a rootbeer fan MUST try the rootbeer brew they have, soo good.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
We had two great experiences at Gahan house. The beers are delicious and you can order flights to try a few different kinds. We also had the curry mussels which were fantastic. A good place to have a drink and relax.
google avatar

Shelly B.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant on Prince Edward Island! We ate out for 5 days and this was our favorite! The fish and chips were fabulous and well proportioned and the chicken sandwich was a breaded chicken breast with all the fixings! Reasonably priced also which was a nice change from the other places we visited. It's not a fancy place but instead gives you the feeling that you are on the inside of a pirate ship! What more could a person ask for on Prince Edward Island?!!
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
Went in while traveling for work looking for a nice dinner and some wine. The place is a brewery and has that beautiful brewery smell with the barley and malt in the air. I sat at a table in the bar, the staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered a small seafood chowder and the steak Thai salad. The chowder was delightful. The portion was large for what I was expecting. It was incredibly hearty and I have to admit that I filled up on it before my salad even came. The flavor was great! The seafood wasn't super prominent, but you could find it throughout. Definitely would recommend, but understand how filling it is! The steak salad was slightly underwhelming to be honest. The steak was cooked great and had a nice flavor, but the rest was just greens and some fried tortillas. I think some additional veggies would have kicked this up a notch. Decent place for a reasonably priced meal.

Jeri C.

Yelp
For a pub like atmosphere, the food was amazing. The beer was great too. We went back the next night just for dessert and drinks.
google avatar

Mel C.

Yelp
Verdict: Strike 2 PEI. Strike 2. Bush league. So, after my ridiculous first hotel attempt, this restaurant was apparently a "sure thing" for a good dining experience. Wrong. Again. Although we were seated quickly, the remainder of the meal went down hill from there. I would normally write this all out, but at this point I'm not in the mood. We all ordered appetizers and mains. 2 of the 4 appetizers came out 20 minutes before the others. The second round of apps showed up at the same time as the first two mains, and one of the mains never showed up at all. Friggin bush league. I don't even expect this from McDonald's, let alone from an establishment that seems to think that charging me over 100 bucks for this is somehow acceptable. Go elsewhere.
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
It is a very nice pub. I had nachos and it was very good. Everyone enjoyed your meals and drinks. The server was efficient and fast. The atmosphere is just like a pub. It was a busy place.

Michael M.

Yelp
Service was excellent, food was delicious. Look forward to eating here again next time we're in town.
