Yelp
My heart will Gahan.... For their beer & nachos (I cannot claim this statement as they names a burger "my heart will Gahan" but hey it fits the bill when you have to hype a place up that honestly doesn't even need hyping)
I live around the corner from Gahan on Sydney St in PEI and while they do have a few locations in the East Coast I can assure it is a unique, well serviced, and delicious experience every time!!
It was actually one of the first places I ate at when I first moved to the Island and it was in the summer time so I got to enjoy the outdoor patio and live music that graces Sydney st in the warmer months. I frequently enjoy Gahan brews which are brewed by PEI brewing on the Island and served on draft and in cans all over the island and dang they make a good IPA.
My most recent visit was actually the first time dining indoors with some friends for a mid week celebration and we got blessed with some fantastic live music, really awesome service, and freakin great food! I will say, the summer can mean some slower service just based on how busy they get (often have to wait for a table) but in the winter time you can get seated and have food and drinks pretty fast.
Sydney St Gahan is in an old historic house so you walk in and it has a cozy vibe that is fun and energetic without taking away from the intimate setting it can offer making it perfect for both groups, families, or a date night. The big windows and decor are warm, where if you are lucky enough to go at Xmas you'll get all the Merry vibes that Ch'town has to offer. The basement is also really cool, where you go to use the rest rooms and can view some cool brew tanks and history too. Note: I am not sure if this an accessible restaurant for those with physical limitations.
While I enjoy all their brews, the IPAs have my heart. 1772 is a PEI staple and for those that like a juicer brew, the Snowbird is fantastic both clocking in at about 6-6.5%. The seasonal's are SO GOOD TO! The Gold Ale is a smooth easy drinker and my fav, the West (coast... I can't remember the name) IPA, is a double that is fruity and hoppy, less bitter finish than the 1772 with notes of winter YUM!! (Watch out, she's a 7% though so have fun ;p )
The menu at Gahan changes with the season but they have year round staples and are really putting together awesome flavours here. The Nachos are great, perfect layering and LOTS of toppings. The beer cheese is great and no lack of olives and jalapeños on there either.
Seafood is always on the menu and they have fresh Oyster and Beer specials throughout the week. Calamari is delicious with a house chipotle aioli, and fries are crispy and deliciously seasoned. The sweet taters are also so good here too, if you are a fan def worth the extra $. The lobster dip and bacon jalapeño dips are def crowd pleasers and I have no complaints about any of the food I have gotten here!
Notably, the menu changes with the season but also is accommodating to those who have dietary needs like vegetarian and GF. Actually, they have a ton of delicious veggie options (not sure about vegan) and menu is always updated online if you need to peep at it before you go.
So what are you waiting for?! GRAB SOME FRIENDS, grab a brew, and enjoy!!
Bravo Gahan! I will be back (maybe I'll even get a summer job to enjoy further... )
Putting the FOOD in Canada's Food Island for sure!
