Unfortunately, when we visited the Gallery of Matica Srpska (Галерија Матице српске), it was closed due to the Easter holidays, so we couldn't go inside. Still, the building is impressive from the outside and fits beautifully into the cultural atmosphere of Novi Sad. The area around it is clean and pleasant, and it's easy to reach. We were disappointed to miss the exhibitions, but we definitely plan to come back another time because we've heard great things about it. We recommend checking the opening hours in advance, especially during holiday periods.

I went in with a group and was partly guided by museum staff. Very nice, enthusiastic people, which makes the exhibition even more exciting. Sadly, the main collection was closed off, but the museum was still worth the visit.

The definite art museum in Novi Sad. Three floors with a good selection of Serbian painters from different epochs. Plan for 2-3 hours to explore it. The dark room on the 3rd floor was a nice respite. The ticket is 200 din, Friday is free.

The oldest literary, artistic, and scholarly organization in Serbia, Matica Srpska, established the Gallery of Matica Srpska in Pest (modern-day Budapest, Hungary) in 1847. With time, the Gallery evolved into a one-of-a-kind national museum institution, a collection of national artwork that was produced and developed across a larger geographic region where Serbs lived from the late 16th century to the present. The Gallery of Matica Srpska started operating independently in 1958 with the opening of the First Permanent Display after it was moved to its current location in the heart of Novi Sad. Nowadays, it's one of Serbia's and Novi Sad's most significant institutions.

There was no info that permanent exhibition is unavailable when entering the gallery and buying tickets, it was nice to see other exhibitions too, but I was still disappointed. I hope I'll edit this review in the future.

Great museum, with a very nice collection and good temporary exhibitions. The entrance is only 200/300 dinars. They also have nice choice of souvenirs/books.
