As a sometime local, I usually have the luxury of having the Garden Gallery to myself and can wander at my leisure to admire the beautifully crafted displays and merchandise which lull me into a kind of other-worldly mindspace.
When we stopped by recently on a Saturday, the place was jampacked with visitors. And I say visitors, not customers, because the place is appropriately named Garden GALLERY and not STORE since it is more like an art gallery with stunning displays of color and design that transcend mere merchandizing.
They had done a good job of signage and floor stickers for social distancing, but people were galavanting all over in erratic paths to look at the succulents, vases, and plants. I do realize that store clerks are not police, and that when it is crowded on weekends, it is best to avoid if you are being careful about COVID. Weekdays are much calmer here! One good feature here is that the indoor space of the gallery is almost open air because of large doors and windows, so the fresh sea air circulates freely!
I stayed in the garden area, and enjoyed the succulents on display, finding a couple that are not yet in my collection. I used to walk to the gallery every week and buy a new plant to add to my succulent collection, but have been starting anew as a COVID hobby.
My true love here is the kitchen merchandise, and I still have some 20 year-old Bennington pottery loaf bread pans that I discovered in the little discount section near the children's goods. The displays of seasonal goods will not only light up your eyes, they will fill your heart with their whimsical charm, inspiring your future holidays!
The check out clerk was beyond friendly and helpful, and she packed things up nicely. The spot for waiting for the cashier is right in the doorway, and that led to some awkward social distancing perambulations as we waited in line, but the customers were all friendly. I am looking forward to returning during the week for some more exploring of the indoor fantasy land!
