The 15 Best Hotels in Savannah, Georgia

"One of the great joys of walking around downtown Savannah is the wealth of architectural styles, and The Gastonian is as pleasing as any. A fine example of the Regency-period Italianate look that defines the more decadent side of this town, and the historic inn has an ornate entrance, wrought iron-lined steps, and a towering porch—all previews of the luxuriousness inside. All of the rooms are individually decorated; some have private balconies and some are duplexes. In our General Hunter room, a Classic King, there was a calming color palette of light greens and blues." - Paul Oswell

The Gastonian

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? One of the great joys of walking around downtown Savannah is the wealth of architectural styles, and The Gastonian, a fine example of the Regency-period Italianate that defines the more decadent side of this town, is as pleasing as any. The historic inn has an ornate entrance, wrought iron-lined steps, and a towering porch—all previews of the luxuriousness inside. What's the backstory?Made up of two adjacent mansions from 1868, both sport white-stucco brickwork. Since opening as a bed and breakfast in the mid-2000s, The Gastonian ascended to become one of the top-rated inns in the world. Tell us all about the rooms. They are all individually decorated; some have private balconies and some are duplexes. In our General Hunter room, a Classic King, there was a calming color palette of light greens and blues, tall windows, dark wood floors, a lovely fireplace, and a small living space with two chairs. Some rooms have clawfoot tubs, but ours had the next best thing: a walk-in marble shower. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?The Wi-Fi was free and fast. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Enjoy breakfast in the sumptuous dining room or as room service. The breakfast menu consists of favorites like omelettes, poached eggs, sausage as well as fruits and cereals, all lovingly prepared and presented. From 5 p.m. to 6 30 p.m., there’s a selection of wine and canapés in the double parlor. How was the service?Service is personal and sincere. There’s an unforced refinement to the welcome and ongoing hospitality throughout the stay. Although staff certainly aren't intrusive, they're very accessible and happy to offer recommendations when asked. What type of travelers will you find here?Guests are mature couples from around the region, many who have been to Savannah before. They're cultured, inquisitive, and appreciative of the inn's style and history. What about the neighborhood? What's the scene like? The inn sits northeast of Forsyth Park near the city’s historic district. It’s close enough to downtown to feel accessible, but still far enough away to enjoy tranquility and privacy. Any other hotel features worth noting? The wine and canapés hour is an opportunity not only can you meet a few of your fellow guests, but to take in the period furniture, portraits, and other pearls from the owners' impressive collection. Bottom line: Why will we love the Gastonian? There are several historic inns and B&Bs in Savannah, and this is one of the best of bunch. It offers a civilized way to start and end the day, and its ambience of easy refinement is a joy to call a home-away-from-home." - Paul Oswell

My best friends and I stayed at the Gastonian for long weekend. We were drawn there because they had a room with two Queen beds which was perfect for us. We loved the historic charm, the benefits of breakfast, Happy Hour and dessert. We also liked being away from the hustle and bustle, but also still within walking distance. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our stay was perfect!

We booked one of the Lincoln Street rooms and received a free upgrade to the Carriage House for our entire stay. The staff member that assisted us upon arrival was friendly and sweet, she gave us a brief tour of the property and showed us to our lodging. We LOVED the style of decor and the layout of the unit. The bed was comfortable, the tub/shower was unique and fun, and the staff had included a few welcoming touches that really elevated our opinion of the hotel! Though it was already fairly high thanks to all the numerous great reviews about it. All in all, we loved our experience at The Gastonian and we would highly recommend it to any couples or solo travelers exploring around Savannah. You won't want to miss out on it!

This was the perfect place for us to celebrate our 53rd anniversary! We booked the Oglethorpe Suite which had 2 rooms and a bathroom. It was located on the 3rd floor and had a king bed that was raised a bit. Our suite was beautifully decorated as were all the public areas. Breakfast was cooked to order from a menu they would give us each night to make our selections for the morning. There was a wine and appetizer social each afternoon and dessert each night. We were there for 3 nights & totally enjoyed staying there. Their staff was top notch. Parking is free which is a plus in downtown Savannah. An FYI - there were no elevators in the inn. We'd definitely stay here again!

This lovely historic inn is filled with beautiful treasures. The building itself is very attractive and well-kept. The interior furnishings are so well done and interesting. The rooms are comfortable and complete with authentic, antique decor. Best of all are the staff. From the bellman to the front desk and the housekeeper to the cooks and servers, it would be hard to find a friendlier and more helpful staff. We loved our stay and will return again soon.

The staff are extremely helpful, the location is great (close to Forsyth Park for morning walks), and the room was exceptional. My wife and I stayed for a couple nights to celebrate our anniversary, and choosing the Gastonian was a win. The breakfast was delicious, room was spacious and comfortable ( Garden Suite), and staff made it easy to find ways to enjoy our stay.

The Gastonian is special. Staying there is like stepping back in time. The people are wonderful. They make the whole experience special. The Gastonian is located conveniently at the southeast corner of the historic district, within a mile walk of the district. The staff is unfailingly friendly. Breakfasts were excellent. Evening desserts always pleased. And the port in the evening was a nice touch. I hope we might return there someday. A truly special spot.

Yelp
Very lovely hotel. Georgian style architecture. We stayed here when we got married. Savannah, GA it's a beautiful town. The hotel has a lovely restaurant on the first floor that serves great breakfast. Every room has a balcony. They host weddings at this hotel in the backyard. Can't wait to revisit the town and this beautiful hotel.

Yelp
My husband actually chose this B&B and it was so lovely that we spent a whole day just hanging out instead of walking around. Our room was the Garden Room which was in the other house in back with it's own entrance and little garden. The spiral staircase was too cute, as well as the swing, and there were fish in the fountain! The room was large, with claw foot tub and a gas fireplace which we used! We ordered breakfast in our room but there isn't really a place to eat it. There was so much food and it was sooo delicious! We kept all the biscuits for later. The cocktails and snacks were very popular on some days. As you can see we had those in the dining room and met some nice people that had been to Savannah many times. Some nights the dessert and cordials later in the night was more popular. Free water, sodas, pretty much whatever you'd need they are there for you! They even have picnics that they'll pack for you! We took ours to Bonaventure, even though Forsyth Park is right nearby. Really romantic stay thanks to all the staff!!!

Yelp
Extremely well managed, best hospitality service I've ever recieved. Rooms were clean. Romantic ambiance. Short walk to Forsyth Park and all of downtown eateries and shops. On site food was delicious. Truly a 5 star property.

Yelp
This was our way station on a drive from NY to Florida. And, as they did a bang/up job, it will be again on our return trip. They are doing all the Covid protection procedures- from masks to social distancing to sanitizing. We felt comfortable staying, and eating here. Located in a residential section of the city and surrounded by the most amazing properties- it affords some peace and quiet while providing timeless services and modern amenities. Each suite is a bit different and there are room in three buildings, connected by gardens and a bridge. The room included a full serve breakfast, ordered the night before and served in a classic dining room with about 8ft between tables. It also includes a nightly set of hors d'oeuvres and wine! If that's not enough, you can return for dessert after dinner, also included! Our room and bath were clean, private and spacious. Great place to stay if you visit Savannah!

Yelp
When planning a trip to Savannah it is important to research the area you will be staying in. My dream was to experience a different aspect of the city. A bed and breakfast sounded perfect. The Gastonian had everything I was looking for. The charm of the area are just part of the good characteristics of The Gastonian. The staff go above and beyond for their guests. They were always available to talk and suggested things for us to do. I was lucky to be in the area doing restaurant week. The foodie in me went crazy! They really make you feel like you belong and really want you to return. I had a rough time sleeping because of the Cicadas that chirped all night long. I guess that is what a city girl gets for visiting the country lol. I will return again but with earplugs and an empty stomach lol.

Yelp
The Gastonian is such a lovely bed and breakfast. It has a lot of charm and the staff are so helpful. It is in a nice location because it is not too busy. They are surrounded by residential properties. I like how it was a quick walk to the main touristy area. The room was spacious and comfortable. We were here for two nights but I could have been there for a week.

Yelp
I've always wanted to stay at the Gastonian and have been scoping it out for quite some time for potential weekend getaways, but given COVID that happened much later than I originally anticipated. Savannah is like a second home to me, as I have a lot of family here and I do visit Savannah and the Golden Isles quite a bit. This trip came around New Year's Day, and I took the experience to rest, relax, and recuperate after a very trying year as a physician and to reflect on the year to come. Everything you read about the Gastonian is true. The home is historic. The amenities are plenty and immaculate. The rooms are breathtaking. The staff and attendants are very accommodating, kind, and welcoming. They pay very close attention to detail and are very organized, which I great appreciate. The parking, even for their central location, is a breeze, and they ensure to the greatest extend that the stay is memorable and relaxing. It is a perfect hotel for romantic getaways and solo getaways to relax and be pampered, and they do all of that just right. The breakfast is cooked-to-order, can be delivered for breakfast-in-fed, and is hot, delicious, and nutritious. They do Bed and Breakfast as an experience right and can write a book about it. They are the real thing. No joke! All of the awards and reviews are warranted, and they know it an deserve it. This has been one of the best experiences I've had during a solo trip away from home, and I look forward to returning in the future. Bravo!

Yelp
This place is simply amazing. It allows you to have a RELAXING vacation in beautiful Savannah. * The place *The people *The service You feel like a welcomed and wanted guest at an amazing house! Don't think twice. This place has been the best part of an A+ vacation from a couple who have travelled the US, Europe, the Caribbean and Asia. And to the Gastonian team -- thank you. You were the best part of a great time in Savannah!

Yelp
My sister got married this past weekend in Savannah, and so we needed to book some rooms around town. What we didn't realize at the time, was that there was a large festival going on that weekend showcasing a lot of the BnBs in town and such. So, finding rooms were quite scarce. Needless to say, we all got different hotels. My uncle (who was to preside the wedding) was coming in from Louisville. For his services, I decided to get him and my aunt a room. Since my sister was getting married in Whitefield Square (about a block away), I thought getting them the closest BnB would have been the best idea. On Expedia, it showed each room that was available. I wanted to largest room available, the Garden Room (room 107). It measures over 400 SF, and includes brick wall and a clawfoot tub, and its own little private garden. Well, as most of you know, Friday, the southeast got blanketed with some nasty weather. It got to a point where I didn't think my uncle was going to make it. So, around 10PM Friday night, I went to the hotel to at least check in and tell them the situation- that either I will be sleeping here or my aunt and uncle. So, Mika (I hope I spelled it right!), got me checked in and taken care of. Walter (AKA Mr. Gastonian) showed me to the room and gave me a rundown of everything. Soaking in everything was magical, the property was beautiful. The room, when I entered, I got really jealous, but I was glad my aunt and uncle were going to get taken care of (if they ever made it!). The room was spacious, with beautiful furniture and a working fireplace. The bathroom was awesome too, with an old school toilet with a pull string. Unfortunately (for me), my aunt and uncle landed about 0100 Saturday morning. I brought them to the hotel, and I introduced them to Mika. She was very friendly and helpful to me. The best thing was that they really enjoyed themselves and I enjoyed my time spent there, and I really loved the Christmas decorations throughout. I can see why children under 21 are not allowed (unless you rent the entire house for a private event) here- it is immaculate for its age (since 1868!). Just a few things- parking is tight, but get with Walter, he will take care of you! Breakfast is included, just talk to the front desk, which is available 24 hours- you get 3 choices. I was told the breakfast is stellar. There is also free wifi. I would also suggest spending time in the living room, as I didn't see too many people indulging- I think that looked like the best part of the hotel! This is a AAA 4 diamond property, but honestly I think it shines more than 5 diamond places I have stayed at around the world. If you want romance or relaxation in Savannah, I would definitely give this place a visit. And say hello to Mika and Walter for me, I miss them already!

Yelp
Wonderful hospitality, with all the old world charm. The staff is fantastic, the breakfasts delicious, wine and appetizers refreshing. We stayed in the Oglethorpe penthouse, super comfortable and charming. Slept like a baby. The only issue I had was showering in the cast iron tub, the wife told me to suck it up buttercup, this was the way back in the day. Our friends stayed in the Chief Tomochichi room and loved it. There was a guy playing guitar on Friday night during the appetizer hour. Nice ambience. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We scheduled & pre paid a stay this week for three day leaving just before Xmas. We were traveling from Knoxville Tennessee after attending my Granddaughters graduation form UT. At the graduation my wife contracted Covid. We decided not to risk anyone from getting it from us. I called this hotel on Sunday while driving back to Miami, our home. A 14 hr. Drive. This was 3 days before our Wednesday arrival. I talked to a very nice person. She totally understood why I needed to cancel. Because we pre paid they usually not refund but because of my wife's Covid illness she would check with her manager Monday. I talked to her today & she would not refund my payment but we could I could give her other dates now & reschedule. Because of Covid & didn't know when we might reschedule she was not understanding. I asked her that if we come now, what would your other guest think about a Covid patient staying there & her response was that was up to us. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT. Risking making other guests being at risk & not bending the rules because of illness, TELLS ME A LOT about this place.

Yelp
Just couldn't say enough about our stay here. 5/5 is not enough. Highest quality and attention to detail. Beautiful place, beautiful people. If you're in Savannah, stay here. If you're not, go so you can stay there. Thank you for a wonderful week. We're looking for the opportunity to come back.

Yelp
During our stay at The Gastonian the hotel was fully booked but, it was still relaxed and quiet. The place feels like you're a guest in a close friend's or a family member's private, fully staffed mansion. The hotel is located on a quiet street about a half mile away from the busiest areas, a nice and easy walk. The property is loaded with charm, is nicely kept, very well appointed, and clean with a lovely, unassuming staff. There's no shortage of hospitality from the moment of arrival until departure. There are refreshments constantly, they serve an included breakfast in the morning (in bed if you prefer), afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres, and evening drinks and desserts. For a city, parking is especially easy in their private rear lot and it's the only additional (small) charge. Every staff member we encountered was more than gracious and Walter and the woman serving breakfast were especially so.

Yelp
The Gastonian redefines hospitality! The staff are incredibly considerate and friendly. They are always happy to help with recommendations, a refreshing beverage, or anything we needed for our room. They focus on the small details, and it shows! (A big thank you to Savannah, who brought down tea and dessert to our room after she heard of a disappointing dining experience elsewhere in town.) The rooms are decorated with antique pieces and are very comfortable. We stayed in one of the Lincoln street kings and the bathroom was huge! A jetted tub big enough for my 6'4" husband...that's impressive on its own! There was a small amount of street noise, if that is something you are sensitive to. It did not bother us at all, as there was hardly any traffic. They offer wine and appetizers in the parlor every evening, in addition to port and dessert every night. Everything was delicious. The cooked-to-order breakfasts were also stellar. I could go on and on. I can't imagine anyone not having a WONDERFUL stay at The Gastonian. (Of course, it is a historic inn, so be aware that it is probably not the right fit for folks with limited mobility.) We are looking forward to our next stay!

Yelp
We stayed in the Juliette Gordon Lowe room for our first anniversary trip and it was an amazing experience. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked the breakfast menu they had every day and being able to pick what we wanted and sign up for tray service. My favorite was probably the stuffed Betty French toast. We told them it was our anniversary and they put a small bottle of champagne and a sweet card in our room, as well as sending us chocolate dipped strawberries on our last night (all complimentary!). The room was beautiful, cozy, and clean. We loved the claw foot tub and private balcony. A perfect stay for our trip.

Yelp
First trip to Savannah and We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gastonian! Great location and the staff is amazing. Breakfast, afternoon hour's devours with wine and evening dessert with port are all included and the breakfast was so yummy, especially the biscuits. Great way to start your day. And did I mention parking is included as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed in the Juliette Gordon Lowe room for our 10 year anniversary and loved our stay. The inn and Gaston Street are gorgeous! Each morning we enjoyed breakfast delivered to our private balcony overlooking a beautiful live oak moss tree. We made it to a couple of their complimentary wine and appetizer receptions, which is a great perk of staying here. The inn is very close to Forsyth Park and about a 20-25 minute walk to popular restaurants and shops on Bull Street, River Street and Broughton. It rained every day during our 4 night stay, but was nice the inn offered umbrellas which kept us dry since we walked everywhere. We also used their bicycles to ride around some of the pretty neighborhoods one afternoon, including Jones Street. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had an issue with the room on our last night that was out of their control and the staff went above and beyond to make up for it which we greatly appreciated. It was the definition of good, southern hospitality. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend to others, and hope to be back again!

Yelp
We could not have been more pleased with our stay at The Gastonian. Room: We were lucky to have the honeymoon suite for a great deal. This room is not located in the main building which I though was great. It is an amazing room. Extremely large, clean and comfortable with fireplaces in both the bedroom and bathroom. The tub was amazing - although it took way to long to fill up it was great to soak in a bubble bath after a long day of walking. The bed was very comfortable but the nightstands are to far away from the bed. The TV is small in this room and oddly placed - very hard to watch it from bed. The toilet room is small and the door does not close all the way but this did not bother me at all. The turn down service was a treat and the room was kept clean by the staff. Food: We were pleased with the food. Each night you receive a menu to select your items for the next day. You may have a tray service delivered to your room or have your breakfast in the main house with the other guests. We chose to eat in the kitchen/dinning room and enjoyed having conversations with the other guests and the kitchen staff. Food was always cooked to order, fresh and tasty. I recommend if you can to return to the B&B and enjoy the lovely wine and snacks they provide in the afternoon as well as the cordials ans desserts in the evening. Staff: The staff was very helpful and friendly they made us feel welcomed and at home through out the stay. Location: Right in the historic district 2 blocks away from Forsyth park. Nice charming neighborhood. Good restaurants within walking distance and a very nice 15 walk to the river. Overall a most romantic stay in a charming house with lovely rooms, beautiful gardens, friendly staff and good food. A five star for sure.

James O.

Yelp
Loved our stay in a charming hotel in the historic part of the town. I recommend staying in a place like this to experience Savannah vs. a corporate hotel chain downtown. Pro's - Lovely historic hotel - Minutes from the park and walkable to everywhere downtown - Had free bikes to use to bike around the city - Free wine and hors d'oeuvres every day 5-6.30pm - Free Breakfast delivered to your room or in the dining room (with excellent poached eggs!) - Staff were really accommodating (constantly getting us water, coffee etc and making our stay great) Con's -None really apart from a little street noise, but nothing too bad

Yelp
Have been visiting this extraordinary home for years during Christmas and also around May, when the Magnolias bloom. We have enjoyed many of the rooms they have and have found them all to be superb. The quality and standards are very high as to personnel, food and ambiance. They decorate the home during Christmas beautifully and at all times there is someone ready to smile and help you with whatever your wishes are. Highly recommended. And, of course, reservations are a must. Their daily breakfast along with the afternoon delicacies and evening cakes are to die for. Ms. Kaytlin, the Innkeeper is the sweetest person with the cutest smile. Go try it out!

Yelp
We stayed in the Lincoln Room for a week and had such a wonderful experience. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely amazing. The room was private, quiet, and so cozy. We flew in from Oregon and this was our first time in Savannah. Such a wonderful experience. We wish we could transport back.

Yelp
From start to finish, The Gastonian was classy, unique, and beautiful. We stayed in the Garden room, which had its own entrance and a small fountain and koi pond in our courtyard. They have a daily breakfast served by an outstanding kitchen and waitstaff. They are all so courteous and attentive. You can choose from an omelet daily, as well as changing dishes (smoked salmon and poached eggs, eggs Benedict, French toast etc). There is also an evening hor d'oeuvres and wine. My favorite was the curry chicken salad and deviled eggs. They also have an evening desert and port wine. The inn is within walking distance of many attractions in historic and downtown Savannah, ranging from a half mile to a mile or so. My only caveats are: I loved the tub and bathroom, but the tub is high and difficult to get into and out of, so elderly or disabled people should avoid this room. The other thing, totally out of the staff's control, is that our bed was EXTREMELY firm. I don't know if all rooms/suites have the same mattress. Regardless, I loved this place. The staff is really excellent and deserves all the positive recognition in the world.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay but I can't get over the small things. I got that the gastonian is a historical landmark and it reflects when it was built, but I couldn't bring myself to think that we could have stayed at a chain hotel without these small issues. We stayed on the top floor of the main house in the Mary Hillyar room. The room opens up to a balcony that was built on a slant so it's actually a little scary to stand out there. I found that the room was very dusty and the floors were never cleaned properly, I wish I had brought my slippers instead of walking around Barefoot and getting my feet dirty. The breakfast was great but we never opted to go downstairs. We always asked for tray service. The Grits were unlike anything I've had anywhere else exclamation point. The first morning, I ordered eggs benedict and they only gave one piece inside of the usual too. Meaning one poached egg on one half of an English muffin. It was also a little cold. My husband had the omelet the first morning and it was phenomenal, so I ordered it for every meal after that. Because the gastonian is so popular and well known, we were able to do the old Savannah tour directly from there. We walked to Forsyth Park once straight from the hotel and we really enjoyed how close it was. The walk to River Street was a little long but we didn't mind.

Yelp
Our 1st trip to Savannah and I am so glad we stayed here. If you want a real feel of the city stay here. All the staff was wonderful and so very helpful. The location can't be beat. It's away from all the loud tourist areas. Forsyth Park is right down the street. Restaurants are an easy $5 Uber drive. We did the Old Savannah Tour our first day and were picked up and dropped off right at the Inn. Happy Hour wines and things to eat every afternoon (oh the pimento cheese) and biscuits (best ever) every morning with made to order omelettes/shrimp n grits/bacon, and heavenly brownies at night. Special thanks to Walter and Bridget.

Yelp
It was my First B&B experience ever and we spent a night there. Checked in around 3, Everett the bellman took our bags to our room, "the carriage house". One of three or four of those suites. The Gastonian is one of the historic, somewhat renovated homes converted to a B&B that's also renowned for being haunted. I can't attest to any haunted experiences, but my sigfig can. He said upon entering our room, he said he thought he saw someone in the bathroom when we first arrived. In addition, after dinner, our deadbolt was locked, which according to him was not locked when we left. Patrons were couples in their mid-40s and above which was a bit of a disappointment since my sigfig and I were not that inclined to socialize. The room featured a king-sized bed, armoire, fireplace with matches, non-flat screen tv, and a large, spacious bathroom. The bathroom featured a bathtub (most likely modeled in the 70s/80s), a shower, and a large mirror on the ceiling (a bit tacky for my taste). "Happy hour" was held from 4:30-6:30 had white and red wine, cucumber tea sandwiches, chicken salad with filo cups, and veggies with a ranch dip. Soda was also available. All available on the first floor outside of the kitchen. The home beautiful with an outdoor, shaded patio area with cast iron furniture where we enjoyed the snacks. For breakfast, we were given the choice of an omelette, French toast, and a healthy option which included granola/cereal, and fruit. We opted for French toast and the omelette with all the fixings. Sides included: sausage, bacon, grits, and country potatoes. We opted for breakfast delivered to our room which was lukewarm. Grits were a bit a disappointment as they were dense and clumpy. Country potatoes were unseasoned and looked grey. Sausage was great and the French toast was tasty. Much to our surprise, following breakfast, we got locked out of our room and were only donning the comfy white terry cloth robes. Concierge happily unlocked our door. We were able to ask for a later check out (beyond 12pm) and were only granted 30min. After loading up our uber with our baggage, we received call from the Gastonian notifying us that my sigfig had left his camera and a broken watch. Overall, great experience but on the pricey end for a night.

Yelp
If you have never been to Savannah, and more importantly never been to this Inn, you must go. The service is impeccable and the offerings are just beyond comparison. Not to mention this location is perfect to get to the major attractions you would want to see. We were fortunate to stay in the Carcalla Suite, which boasts a private fireplace, as well as a beautiful bathtub adjacent to the fire. You won't got wrong with this option! Whether you are looking for a romantic escape or simply luxurious accouterments for your own private get-away, this location is certainly top of the list.

Yelp
Truly a special place... the staff is caring, thoughtful and professional. The breakfast was superb, they put out wine and snacks in the afternoon and they treat it seriously, I can't say enough about the hospitality in care of each individual I came in contact with, kudos!!

Yelp
Be forewarned: For the rest of your life *every* hotel you stay at will *always* be held in comparison with The Gastonian. It is TRULY an unforgettable Bed and Breakfast with pampering well worth the cost. For our Honeymoon I researched to find the most romantic location to spend our FIRST night as husband and wife---I wanted a place with enchanting decor from a more noble past but not so "Anne of Green Gables" that it would be a libido turnoff. The Gastonian was the perfect combination with plenty of privacy for the blushing newlyweds! We stayed in The Carriage House which is essentially your own *private* two story brick apartment with a porcelain claw-foot tub (big enough for TWO) and a balcony on the second story with wrought iron furniture. The walls were exposed brick and the hand carved wooden bed was so high you had to use the stepping stool. It was absolutely lovely and I couldn't imagine a better place for our Honeymoon! I don't think The Gastonian can be described as merely a "Bed and Breakfast" since it also provides gourmet afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine as well as various desserts and Cordials at the nightly reception. You feel spoiled by all the extras and attention! The staff is incredible with genuine concern about your weekend escape! In the morning you have your choice of pre-ordered breakfast delivered to your door (on a silver tray with coffee service!) or dine in the main hall. For the first morning of our Honeymoon I ordered this delicious Spinach Florentine Eggs Benedict and my husband ordered the French toast. It was luxurious to just get out of the bath, wrap up in my robe, and then have breakfast waiting for us in the sunshine. It was a beautiful spring morning on the balcony overlooking Savannah and I was there with my husband smoking his pipe! The staff really goes over and above the customer service you receive at most lodgings. While my husband slept in the next morning, I went inside the main house to get myself some coffee. One of the attentive employees greeted me, brought me a plate of scones, and invited me to sit on the couch and read a newspaper while I ate and drank. I honestly cannot say enough about this amazing institution If you're looking for a weekend satiated in romantic ambiance and pampering! .

Yelp
Stayed here 4 nights. True Savannah charm! Very spacious corner rooms. A delicious breakfast, hor d'oeuvres and wine in the afternoon and dessert in the evening all included. The best part is the staff, Walter in particular. Very attentive and always ready to help. The downside is the building was built 1833 or so and there is no elevator. We will be back!

Yelp
Awesome!!! Awesome!! Awesome!! We absolute loved this place for our three night stay in savannah.. Everyone that works here is such a pleasure. Breakfast was wonderfully made each morning and even custom made our last. He heard we wanted biscuits and gravy and made it just for us. Everett was a true pleasure to see each day and talk with as was Marcus.. Thank you all and we can't wait to stay in this gem again

Yelp
My partner and I stayed the Gastonian for 3 nights, upon our arrival we were complimentary upgraded to the Carriage House. Wow, what a nice surprise that was . We had our own private entrance the room had upstairs and downstairs a private balcony and a claw foot tub very quite and cozy. The staff was exceptional and the breakfast was delicious. The location was perfect for all the things we had planned. The staff were very helpful with directions recommendations to restaurants and things to see. This was our first time to Savanah so we didn't know what to expect the Gastonian was a perfect place to start our trip. Thank you so much for welcoming us to Savanah and into your beautiful place. Yelp
Wow!!!! The Gastonian has raised the bar to all the Bed and Breakfasts in the country! This place is amazing. My wife and I were there in bussiness and only stayed 2 nights. Rooms are big and well decorated. In this place Customer service is a actitud not a department. We had an early flight, we were living at 3am. When we arrive at the lobby to check out there was fresh fruit, coffee and cereal waiting with our names on it! I can't wait to go back to The Gastonian !

Yelp
I stayed here for my wedding, and even though the building and room were absolutely gorgeous, the quality of service made it extremely overpriced and overall disappointing. I left my room on my wedding day at 8:45 a.m. and asked that they make sure to clean it before 1 p.m., as we would be taking "getting ready" photos in there. When I got back, it still hadn't been cleaned, and because the photographer was arriving, all the maid did was "tidy," i.e. make the bed, and didn't actually clean, so when I got back later with my new husband, the place, especially the bathroom, was dirty. Every hotel should clean your room by the time you get back from lunch, regardless if a special request was made or not. We also found that upon check-in, two brand new towels that were still folded had stains on them (probably makeup). Furthermore, the toilet stopped flushing at about 3:30 and my bridesmaids all had to use it, one right after the other, in order to get to the ceremony in time. I came back at 4:15 to find all that they had left behind and that the staff still hadn't fixed it yet. Finally, the one blonde woman who works at reception is pretty rude. I was standing in a wedding veil and dress, holding a bouquet, trying to rush out and get to my ceremony, and she made me wait to give her my key, which takes two seconds, until she was done entering in information into the computer. I hoped that for a bridal suite and wedding night hotel I would have gotten some kind of special treatment, but instead we weren't even given adequate service. Way too overpriced. I wouldn't count on this inn if you are a bride looking to get married in the area. Finally, the hotel was made aware that I would be using the room both to get ready for my ceremony and for my wedding night when I toured the property one year before my wedding date, when I booked the room over the phone nine months before my wedding date, and upon my check-in. They were made aware several times with ample advance notice. I've written to the hotel manager on two occasions since and have never received a personal reply.

Everything was top notch from super nice rooms excellent, polite, and accommodating staff, wine and hors d'oeuvres every evening, dessert and port every night. Made to order breakfast every morning that you can have delivered to your room. Perfect for a romantic getaway for our anniversary.

Yelp
The room and building were beautiful! The breakfast was so yummy and the chefs made everything perfectly as we requested! Breakfast was even delivered to our room. The concierge staff was the best ever. They were so sweet and eager to help. My husband and I absolutely loved it and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at The Gastonian for our honeymoon. We stayed at the hotel for roughly a week. The hotel is beautiful and well-maintained. The staff there were all very friendly and extremely helpful. They always seemed genuinely happy to see you and always asked if there was anything you needed. The room we stayed in was clean, everything seemed to be in good repair. The Gastonian offers breakfast each morning, cocktails in the early evening and dessert later in the evening. We ate breakfast at the hotel every day we stayed there - it was delicious each morning. Their honey biscuits are very good. Each night you are there, they will leave a menu for you to choose from a list of options what you'd like for breakfast the next morning. Build your own omelettes are standard every day, should you not like the other options. The hotel is located near Forsythe Park and is about a mile walk from River Street. We were able to walk everywhere in Savannah that we wanted to go from our hotel. We were very happy with our stay at the Gastonian and would choose the again, if we end up in Savannah again.

Yelp
The raspberry crumble and peanut butter cookies were on point at The Gastonian tonight. Actually...everything has been on point during our stay. The staff is absolutely amazing. The food has been 5 star. The rooms are perfect and enormous. I would recommend this B&B again and again. To everyone at the Gastonian, McKinney 1 and McKinney 2 say Thank You!

Yelp
We had a wonderful visit at the Gastonian for our honeymoon. We stayed in The beautiful General Hunter room, which was very spacious and beautifully decorated. The only downside was the (lack of) view and water pressure. Service was great, including silver tray coffee delivered to our room one afternoon. Breakfast was delicious, although not overly creative--basically the same variety of options both days. That being said, everything was delicious. We didn't get to enjoy social hour or evening coffee due to dinner reservations but hope to during our next visit. We will probably stay here again next year for our anniversary, although we may try a different room with a view.

Yelp
I loved this B&B they recommended the Pink a house for dinner, and everything about this place was so quaint. The room was clean, amenities were available The tood was great! The Lavender grits won me over I hate to say it!!! I never heard of it I are and loved them. Since I stayed there I've never been able to find a restaurant that served them. I recommend this B&B if you are in the area of Savannah It's beautiful

Yelp
LOVED this place!!! My partner and I were on a road trip and stopped in Savannah. We walked in to take pictures of this gorgeous historic building. The innkeeper was gracious enough to give us a tour. We ended up falling in love and getting a room for the night. BEST decision we made. Friendly service, amazing breakfast, and breathtaking rooms.

Yelp
I'm a local hairstylist here in Savannah. I do A LOT of hair for weddings, so I've been to many b&b's for bridal hair appointments... Most b&b's I've been to don't really concern themselves with me, as I'm not a paying guest, which is understandable, I'm more like "staff". But as soon as I walked in to the Gastonian I was treated as a guest. EVERYONE greeted me and offered me water. They even had someone carry my bags to the brides room. On our way up I even got a little history/ tour of the house, which is absolutely lovely, by the way. I've never stayed at the Gastonian, but they treated me (neither staff, nor guest) with nothing less than the utmost cordiality. The brides room was huge and beautiful. It had antique furniture, historic charm, but simultaneously wasn't cluttered or outdated. We also walked through a lovely back porch area with an arbor. I've always wanted to take a "stay-cation" here in Savannah. Now I know where I'd like to stay when I do. I also know where I'll be referring people to stay when they visit.

Yelp
The Gastonian staff are some of the most customer service oriented individuals that I have ever met. My husband and I stayed at the Gastonian for 4 nights and we could not have been happier. Our room was phenomenal and ready upon arrival. We had a set of champagne flutes ordered and they were set up at turn-down. The food at the Gastonian is amazing. We didn't have a single morning where we were disappointed with breakfast. The tray service was a nice touch and my husband and I really enjoyed the midday snacks and the desserts in the evening. We stayed in the connecting mansion so it was very quiet. They were making renovations but they didn't inconvenience us at all. One thing to keep in mind however, this building is over 100 years old. If you are wanting modern amenities and elevators, then this is not the place for you. The location was lovely. It is right across from Forsyth Park and an easy walk or Pedicab ride into downtown. We never felt awkward about the times when we would come in late and there was always someone at the front desk if we needed them. Overall, this is a fantastic place to spend a vacation or special occasion. We had a lovely time and cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Can I live here forever? I think the rest of my days would be lovely if I could have a nice breakfast served in my room and eaten on a sunny balcony . Walter, Laura, and Boo are the best hotel staff members ever. The building is about 150 years old and gorgeous. You have a fireplace in your room for God sakes. It has some quirks, such as fold in doors to the bathroom that don't quite close all the way and creaky floors but it is older than everyone on the planet so that is to be expected. Those quirks can also be overlooked when you have a whirlpool tub and one of the most comfortable beds in the world. It is perfect for crashing onto after eating and drinking more than one should. The best part is enjoying delicious canapés served in the parlor where, with the assistance of our friends, Merlot, chardonnay, and white zinfandel, you and the other guests tend to get a little chatty and you find out a lot of interesting tidbits about relative strangers. If you can't get them to say something juicy at tea time try again after some port or brandy at dessert. Interesting tidbit: If you come here with a same sex friend people will assume you are gay as most people here are married couples. It is nice to know that people can be so accepting/tolerant . Our hotel menu was even printed up as Mrs & Mrs. ______.

Yelp
Excellent place, staff; easy walk to river and other Downtown sights. Spent one night at this well-appointed B&B. Our room was just perfect with nice furnishings and a modern bath. The staff, particularly Walter, are great. The common rooms in the main house are nice, and they have beverages and treats in the afternoon and evening. Breakfast is very good. Look forward to returning.

Yelp
First timers ever at a B&B. We arrived a little early, about an hour and a half. Unable to check in early, check in was a 3 pm. That's ok. I had reserved the Eli Whitney room with the upgraded champagne and strawberries and keepsake flutes, all awaiting our arrival. This was to be a surprise for the hubby. Got in the room, nothing awaiting our arrival, no champagne, no strawberries, or glasses. So, I went downstairs discreetly to ask about them and was told they had no record of the upgrade, which I had already pre-paid for. I went back upstairs and had to locate my receipt proving payment and had to explain to hubby what had happened. I went back downstairs to show my receipt and was told oh, I found your upgrade, when do you want it? I was like, I wanted it in my room awaiting our arrival, like I expected, instead, a big disappointment. By this time I didn't want it, surprise was ruined. I Didn't feel like my issue was an issue at all to them. They finally got put in our room while we were out for the evening, didn't even want them that late. Other that that, we had a good time. Clean rooms, friendly wait staff, no complaints with that. Didn't get to stay as long as had planned due to impending weather. I know it seems silly to some to stress over an issue of not having a welcoming champagne treat but it is for me. I don't really buy extras like this but was trying to do something romantic which got totally ruined, I honestly felt like crying.

Yelp
As good as it gets, in a great city. The Gastonian is a well-rated bed and breakfast for good reason. Terrific rooms with fire places, old world charm throughout, friendly and professional staff, complimentary Southern breakfast, complimentary tea, wine, and hors d'oeuvres, complimentary cordials and desserts, nice reading material and furnishings in the parlors, friendly other guests to chat with over wine or cordials. It's all perfect. You can have your customized breakfast in your room, but it's more fun to eat in the kitchen. Their chef is a charming lady whose been cooking for many years. She has a wonderful banter she entertains with as she cooks. (She was off to a Food Channel audition the day after we were last there.) It's a great walk-around neighborhood, not far from downtown. There's nothing we would change about The Gastonian Inn.

Yelp
I stayed at the Gastonian in March 2011 (wasn't on Yelp! at the time, so getting caught up with my reviews...this was originally posted on another site, but I'm posting here, too) and had a great time. The rooms were nice & well kept. The house was very charming. The staff was cordial and fun to talk too. Especially Calvin - he cooked the (included) breakfast. Not only did he do an outstanding job with the food, he was fun to talk too as we enjoyed breakfast. He is a true example of why Savannah is the "Hostess City of the South"! Included with the price was a very nice room (and decently sized), breakfast (with the option to eat in the kitchen or have tray service in-room), wine/h'or devours in the afternoons, and cordials in the evenings. The house is old, so expect to hear some floor-board creaking noise, but that adds to the charm. Definitely somewhere I'll stay again!
