The Gate Hotel Tokyo by HULIC

This was our second time staying at the Gate Hotel. Its location is perfect - at the start of the Ginza with the Ginza, Hibiya, and Yurakucho lines very close by, and Tokyo Station about 15 minutes walk away. The lobby and terrace area are lovely. We did not eat in the restaurant. The rooms are a nice size, and the lighting is good. We found that the twin rooms are slightly larger with a double vanity in the bath, but the standard double is perfectly fine. Our first trip in 2019 I asked for a room that didn't overlook the tracks, and we had a fun view of the Ginza activity. I forgot to request that this time, and while our view was into another building with the tracks in the background, the sound-proofing was perfect. I would not hesitate to recommend. It is pricey, but we were able to save on other accommodations during our trip. If you travel with over- sized luggage you might have some difficulty tucking it away. One note: there is not much of a street level presence with the signage set back leading to the elevator to the lobby.

A modern hotel in an excellent location. Easy access to train stations. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.|We had a corner room with a good city scape view. Bathroom was plenty big enough with a good shower and selection of toiletries. Comfy bed, tea and coffee maker.|Breakfast was ok. A limited selection of 3 hot cooked to order dishes which didn’t change and a limited selection of buffet items compared to many other hotels of a similar standard.|Large open reception area and small outdoor patio which we could never get a seat on as the weather was lovely and warm. A long bar area with a good selection of cocktails.|Staff were very friendly. Easily handled luggage forwarding and were very attentive.

So happy with our stay at The Gate hotel. Lobby lounge was really nice , room was very spacious and clean, location can’t be any better, in the heart of Ginza. Would definitely stay here again! The only thing I have to say was the gym doesn’t have any weights but better than nothing !

The Good: |Ginza Station is at the door step.|Bed is very comfortable. No trouble sleeping and didn't wake up with neck ache like some hotels.|Staffs are very cheerful, friendly and helpful. |Full amenities like other hotels I have stayed.|Reception area is nice, bright and look relaxing with all the sofas and decoration. I can imagine how nice it is to sit at the outdoor area sipping a glass of wine when the weather is cool. But on one of the days, it was about 30 deg cel and the area felt hot and stuffy from the heat since the entire area is glass. ||The Bad: |We booked the Classy room because the other rooms are small and we have 3 large luggage. |The interior decoration of the room certainly does not reflect the price of the room. More like between a 3.5 to 4 star hotel. This is especially when you enter the bathroom area which look cheap. A good thing there is a proper wardrobe and not the open concept of some hotels with only some bars for hanging clothes. Otherwise, it will look really cheap. For these reasons, I feel that the price is high for a room like this as it certainly does not feel luxurious and command such a high price.||Overall, I enjoyed my stay and thank the staffs for making it a pleasant one.

This was our first time in Japan, and our first experience of Japanese hotels. It got us off to a great start. It's right next door to a metro station so a super convenient base for exploring Tokyo.|Our room (by Japanese) standards was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfasts and appreciated the marmalade which they make from the many oranges that are squeezed each morning.

The staff was exceptional; incredibly helpful and professional. Helped me with a few needs; the entire staff is outstanding. I can’t thank them enough. ||Room was great. Spacious, comfortable, has everything you need. Bedding and mattress were very comfortable. My only criticism is the pillows were very firm. VERY firm. Would be great to have a softer option. ||The hotel is for the transient crowd. Not a lot of amenities and services on site. But I don’t hold that against them; it’s just not their thing. Their target traveler is clearly the in and out crowd. Beautiful property and very, very convenient location. The center of it all. Ginza metro entrance is at the door step. ||Overall, we enjoyed our quick stay and would recommend the hotel.
