In-Depth Review of the Dorchester in London - AFAR

"A contemporary take on British cooking by Tom Booton, the restaurant showcases inventive dishes and memorable signatures — including a much-talked-about stuffed grilled onion that reviewers described as a "festival in the mouth." - Heidi Mitchell

If you are traveling down Highway 17 toward Mount Pleasant and Charleston, be sure to stop in Georgetown and go to the gator Grill on front Street I promise you you will not be disappointed. The food is unparalleled. The atmosphere is great. The service is a 10. The views are magnificent. You can take in a little bit of history well without ever re-parking Georgetown and the gator Grill are gems.

My Mom and I were told we would have to sit outside because of my service animal. I told him that is illegal and he said the health department told them they didn't have to allow service animals. We left the empty bar and spent a great evening and a lot of money at the Rooster's bar instead.

Delicious food with a nice waterfront view out back. They had a checkers table set up which was fun to play! Server was very friendly as well. Will be returning here!

Local dive bar located on Georgetown’s scenic Harborwalk serving lunch, dinner and drinks. Simple bar interior with booths, bar and pool tables with nautical and beer sign motif. Outdoor back deck offers a panoramic view of the Georgetown Harbor. Surprisingly after finding our original dining destination closed, the adjacent restaurant had a hour and half wait was that this place was empty. Two locals claimed a couple barstools around the bar and the rest of the dining area was ours. Basic bar menu was appetizers, salads, baskets, burgers and sandwiches/wraps. First, we shared the Gator Bites with fried breaded Gator meat served with a spicy mango sauce. Interesting taste and texture that went nice with the side sauce that had a bit of heat. Our Shrimp Po Boy came with a choice of fried, grilled or blackened shrimp served with lettuce and tarter on a multigrain kaiser bun. Simple tater sauce flavor and chunky shrimp texture. A side of crispy fries a plus.

Gator bites were pretty good. First time visit. They have several pool tables.

We did a to-good order. The lady that was working was very nice and accommodating. I ordered food but they were out of the fish at the time. But I did get fried shrimp and gator bites. Both of those tasted amazing. The gator bites I wish I got a few orders of. Thier sauce for the bites were so good like sweet but with a kick. Super tasty. I didn't have to wait long on food and the place was very clean as well. I would like to go back sometime.

Yelp
Dive bar in the evening - was told not to bother but we stopped in. People were super nice and fun to hang with. Employees super chill and nice. I love a good dive bar...and this one fit the bill. Great music

Yelp
We took a break from walking around downtown Georgetown and sat outside in the back at the Gator Grill. It was early in the afternoon and we were the only customers on a Tuesday. We ordered the fried cheese sticks. Let me tell you those are the best cheese sticks I have ever had in my life! They are very large. The order was way too much for one person to eat definitely plan to share!. Our server Tamela was wonderful. She took very good care of us and told us a lot about the area.

Yelp
Went around noon on Thursday, there were only three people eating at the bar. That should have told me to turn around. We ordered the shrmip po'boy which was good and a cheeseburger which was a frozen patty...not good. Service was indifferent. I had to go and ask for refills and by this time, there were only the two of us in the restaurant. It blows my mind that the owner allows this. Here the owner has a great location right on the river and it should be packed instead of empty. Get some friendly, attentive help and serve better food.

Yelp
I was a little leery, but hubby wanted alligator so we walked in. Great choice. Friendly staff. Helped us with all our menu requests. Blacken shrimp had great flavor. Side veggies were some of the best I have ever had. Hubby really enjoyed his alligator, the dipping sauce was very yummy. The others had shrimp roll up's. We all raved about the size of the shrimp. This was a great choice!

Yelp
Nice place. Owner friendly. Blackened fish sand was good. Service was excellent. Will be back.

Yelp
Hubby had been told that Castaway's has the best wings in town & he wanted to try them out. I'm glad we chose to go here. The food was really good. Yeah, it's the standard bar food on the menu, but it was brought out hot & fresh off the grill. Seasoning was just right. Service was quick & friendly, too, but without hovering over us while we ate. We also must have beat the St Paddy's Day crowd as there were maybe a dozen customers while we were there. If we were going to be in the area longer, I'd definitely return.

Yelp
Wife and I stopped in for a late lunch and it did not disappoint, I ordered the Island Burger with Onion Rings and she got the Calabash Shrimp basket, the burger was cooked perfectly as were the onion rings, wifes shrimp was plentiful and cooked to perfection. Sat out on the patio and the atmosphere was perfect. Will be back in the future!

Yelp
The entire town of Georgetown south Carolina is down to earth, decent and so is Castaway. Castaway is on the boardwalk. It shares the back with the boardwalk while the entrance is on front street with a variety of different food spots for foodies. The set up is for laid back chill, having fun boots on the table hanging out environment with the best southern charm, decent people though you may not have met them in your life, will treat you as equals, great you and wish you well with truthful and good intentions. The food is the review. I ordered grilled shrimp, chicken tenders and grilled chicken, must have been hungry. The shrimp was moist and tender, to perfection except the fishy smell hanged around for ages even after hours. Chicken tenders were huge and better than all the fast food stuff made from bone meat. Grilled chicken breast was awesome, juicy and delicious. Fries, side salad to the point. This is was a great surprise for me and we may judge this place front entrance and the atmosphere but it showed me the people decency, awesome food and the southern charm made my day. Castaway is a diamond in the ruff. Find this place and enjoy the people. Plus the food. I enjoyed every bit of both.

Yelp
First time here. Came in for happy hour. Had drinks and wings. We tried 3 flavors (Honey BBQ-Hot-Wasabi Ranch) all were great! Happy Hour crowd was sparse. We assumed weekends were more crowded. Nice stop for a drink on the boardwalk.

Yelp

Yelp
Welcome to the Twilight Zone. Went there on a Thursday night at 8 and sat outside. Looked like a few regulars at the bar who had been there a while. We got drinks at the bar and seated ourselves. We had a party of 4. We ordered food from the bar. We got a BLT and wings. our friends got a burger and a grilled cheese plus bacon and tomato. Their food came out and everything was fine but the bacon wasn't cooked. They said the burger was awesome and the fries were good. Our food comes out like 20 minutes later and is cold. I think it had been sitting the entire time we waited for it. We told the bartender that everything was cold. She took the wings back and brought them back saying that they toss the wings in cold sauce and that's why "we thought" they were cold. That made them sound even less appetizing and didn't help the fries or the sandwich. No one asked how anything was. No one cared. The bartender was too busy flirting with the regulars at the bar and standing on the bar. We got another beer and watched the show. Then we go to pay our bill. This is when we enter the twilight zone. Our bill is like double what it should be. We got charged for 2 sandwiches at the wrong price and a drink we didn't have. We told the bartender and she says it looks right to her. I said even if I had 2 BLT's they are only $4.95. How do 2 cost $11.90. She insists that it is correct. I ask her if she can just take the stuff we didn't have off the bill. She says she already ran our card and she isn't allowed to fix it. At this point I wonder what planet I have been beamed to. Then she counts out $6.95 cash for the overcharge on the BLT and tells me that she has to keep my receipt as proof that she gave me money back. She writes owes $6.95 on it and keeps it. Nothing on the drink. I said this is ridiculous. You still overcharged us and there is tax on all this stuff too. Then her response was "oh no, you had liquor on your bill and the tax is flat on every bill". How stupid does she think we are? I am sure the state of SC would be interested in their taxing practices. At this point we were done arguing with the rocket scientist and signed the credit card bill. Whoever owns this place may want to keep tabs on it. The employees are as trashed as the patrons and they are definitely the worst advocates for their business. Too bad. They have a great spot on the water. If you like places where you get cold food, serve yourself and get to argue with the brightest of the bright, this place is for you and Rod Serling. If you choose to go here, definitely watch your bill.

Dee R.

Yelp
Thank goodness for the very attentive waitresses which makes a mediocre meal so much better. Cold beer =A+ BLT with two less than 2" pieces of bacon and no mayo = D- Good place for cold beer but to eat Not so much.

Yelp
This Bar and Grill was a Great Find!! Nestled in Georgetown on Front Street. We Had Cheeseburgers, French Fries and Orange Mango Chicken Wings which Were Off The Chart Folks and Cold Cold Beer!!! That Night they had a Band Playing which we Really Enjoyed with a Nice Dance Floor with Lights. Seating is Plentiful with a Bar in the middle and then pool tables in the back. Then a Great Bar Bar on the Water and Boardwalk. The Staff were fast and our Order was Accurate. Our Food came out Hot and was Delicious. I would recommend this Great Place. We Will Be Back, Especially for The Wings!!

Yelp
Worst bar ever! The waitress was doing shots while behind the bar and it took her forever to acknowledge that I wanted to check out. Absolute trash!

Kelly W.

Yelp
Atmosphere is fine, but the service is awful. With only two other patrons in the establishment it should not take over an hour to get a couple sandwiches. Do not come here if you expect for eat in a timely manner.
