The Gelato Fiasco

I stopped by The Gelato Fiasco on Maine Street, and it instantly became one of my favorite dessert spots in Brunswick! The gelato was absolutely delicious, the portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, great quality and quantity all around. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. You can tell they take pride in both their service and their product. I’d rate it a solid 10/10 and would absolutely recommend it to anyone craving something sweet. My personal favorites were the fresh cookie and cardamom gelato, both were unique, creamy, and packed with flavor. Perfect ending to a day in downtown Brunswick!

The BEST Gelato on planet earth! 🌎 🍨 😋 LITERALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE GOOD! And im not exaggerating! I (& my company) tasted divinity when we went here. The seasonal, Apple Cinnamon Dairy Free Gelato changed my life. It was all you love about apple pie with vanilla ice cream, in one spoonful, that was so creamy I had to double check… dairy free !?! WOW 🤯 🤩 🤤 IT CHANGED MY LIFE! I can only pray they open one down here in NYC or Jersey! They should go nation wide! Their method and recipes are out of this world. I sampled 6 and got 3 , which they were very nice about. It felt almost encouraged. You get what you like and how you like it without it being limited like other shops. I should also note their customer service was exceptional! Warm, friendly, polite! Angelika was a treat! Someone you’d hope to meet on your travels, as we did 😌 a true asset to this business. The others we met were just as kind and helpful. Truly such a nice store! They were spacious and cozy inside with nice couches and furniture, board games, and a nice family feel. Where you can go and catch up with friends and not be rushed out! It was truly special and so happy we found it! Truly this place made my entire trip! I’m still dreaming and wondering how they made that special gelato… how it was so velvety smooth , packed with flavor… I could only describe it like when you would get good cold stone creamery, it’s like that but BETTER! (Yes there’s another level and they’ve unlocked it!) I’m telling you they can win awards and go global between their service model and product! I’m so happy my friend took me here and found them! If you’re thinking of going, this is your sign! It’ll be one of the best desserts of your life! You won’t be disappointed! They have parking out front as well! Do you love gelato or sorbetto? You must give this place a try. Absolutely amazing in every way. The staff was super friendly and attentive. It can get a bit busy but have no fear...the line goes fast. Plenty of comfortable seating inside as well as some outside. Many bold and delicious flavors to choose from. They also have takeaway too!

A friend recommended this spot to us and I'm so glad we stopped. This gelato was fantastic and one of the best frozen treats we've had this year. My husband and I shared: - Marscapone Pistachio Caramel - Italian Banana Pudding - Cake Batter All three flavors were incredible. They have so many awesome flavors and they let you sample as many as you want. I will stop by here every time I'm nearby. If you like ice cream and gelato, it's a must.

I spent my high school years serving and making fine ice cream in Brooklyn and married an Italian and have a true appreciation for good gelato. Gelato Fiasco is hands down the best tasting Gelato I've ever had, anywhere. The flavors are robust, there are some fantastic dairy-free flavors and the staff are the most friendly I've ever experienced. Mystery pints for only $4.50 and as a member of the vaunted Red Spoon Club, you earn free scoops! Heaven on earth.

Great flavors, rich taste. This place is always busy but it was worth the wait. Lots of variety and seasonal offerings to keep you exploring flavors.

Wonderful authentic taste! Best ice cream we had in so long ! Can’t recommend it enough House chocolate, pure lemon, sicilian pistachio, wild blueberry … ALL were good ! You’ll definitely find your favorit one

Love taking an evening motorcycle ride to this place. Dairy and I are not such good friends anymore, but they have so many delicious sorbetto options that I don't feel left out. My current favorite is the raspberry mango. All the employees are super friendly and helpful too.

Had to try this place since I love the one in Portland so much. It's pretty much exactly the same. Interior design wise it is pretty much the same. Very whimsical. If you see this before the month of February is over I hugely recommend some of their monthly specials like the Italian Banana Pudding, Passionfruit Raspberry, or the German Chocolate Cake. The service is always friendly and helpful - you can bring kids here and trust they will love it. There is not a ton of seating but I love seeing that it is always busy even in the dead of winter - that's how you know they're doing something right.

Fantastic assortment of gelato. Well worth the drive. Very unique flavors. Don't get a large by yourself, you can't eat at all.

This place had tables full outside as I walked by so I had to stop in and check it out. I am glad I did! It has a cafe vibe inside, very dark walls but bright display cases. Tons of flavors of gelato and sorbet! Staff is happy to provide samples of flavors. I love that they use reusable spoons for their sampling spoons! Tons of indoor seating and good options outside too. The small size is quite generous so I am glad they also offer a "taste" size!

The gelato is the best that I've had since Rome! Amazingly smooth, rich, and flavorful. Bunch of new flavors since my last visit, too! The staff were all very friendly and patient with my kids and their request for numerous samples.

Visiting for the weekend and friend recommended this small shop in a cute downtown. Plenty of street parking. Very reasonably priced. Fast and efficient service. Seating outside. Just as good if not better than European gelato. The hazelnut is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Best flavor. The dark chocolate is super rich and intense. The Netflix and Chilled is a great combination of salted caramel, brownie, peanut butter cup and maybe magic. A little extra sweet but so fun and reminiscent of childhood. The waffle cone is fresh and only a small $.93 up charge. Totally worth it. No dog ice cream specific but the vanilla and cream flavors are safe per the staff.

Was exploring downtown Brunswick on a warm-ish fall day - decided to pop in for some gelato and I'm so glad I did! I tried the blood orange flavor and it was fantastic!! Location is perfect - right in the heart of the main area downtown with all the cute shops and park area. Staff are inviting, helpful, and friendly. Vibe is cozy and chill (no pun intended lol) - lots of comfy seating and nice decor - definitely a great place to enjoy your icy treat while people watching on the main street. They have lots of great flavors - traditional and some interesting ones too - but the blood orange got my attention. I loved it! Great texture - soft with some orange bits in it. So light, refreshing, and full of orangey deliciousness!! Will happily stop in anytime I'm in the area!

My first time in Maine already off to a "SWEET" start with gelato, and meet Mel and Mitch who were serving at the time. Customer service made me feel at home; they were so kind and friendly! I got to try different flavors and the texture was so SMOOTH, and rich, sweetness level was just right for me. Never thought I would say this, but I think I'm gonna switch from ice cream to gelato . Great atmosphere, friendly for everyone.

It pains me to say that Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick, which is the flagship store has really gone down hill. There were only two people working on a hot summer day. There were a lot of customers there but the service was slow. They were not even offering samples which was always a big selling point to get their product out. They used to make a lot of different flavors and the sampling was helpful to taste before you buy. They had less than half of what they used to offer two years ago. I understand that Covid played a big role in the service industry but sometimes you need to stick with what made you a shining example pre pandemic. I did order the brownie batter and Sweet resurgam. These are my two personal favorites. The flavors were spot on, even though the gelato serving size was much less than it used to be. It is always nice to go back and they are still offering the "red spoon" club, which keeps track of your purchases and allows you to get a free gelato. Thank you for maintaining this perk!

This is the best gelato I've ever had. It is smooth and very rich in flavor. Chocolate noir for me. The staff is friendly and eager to tell you about the various offerings. They will give you a taste to help you make a decision. The shop is relaxing. Everyone has smiles on their faces when there.

What's there to say? Tons of flavors--something for everyone. Open late which is really great. You can sample whatever you want. A little on the pricey end but I guess that's 2023 for you. Try the Wild Maine Blueberry, any of the peanut butter flavors, the chocolate, doughing me doughing you.

My previous experience/review 2 yrs ago of Gelato Fiasco was not favorable, so I wanted to give them another opportunity. I went this afternoon and I ordered a small ($4.86) combo of brownie batter and good ole' peanut butter. The brownie batter was gritty and grainy, and very unappetizing!The price is also outrageous for being only 3/4 full. I remember a time at Gelato Fiasco when samples were offered generously, and portion sizes were legit. What happened?? I really wanted to enjoy this experience, but that was certainly not the case. Not likely to return again. Disappointing to say the least.

what a wonderful place! The staff are charming, delightful and kind and the sorbetto and gelato? ooh la la! I think the best I have ever had.

I'll keep this simple: good gelato. A few facts and opinions: - they sell by volume, so if you want a medium with 6 different flavors, the scooper might be annoyed, but you could apparently do it. (Tip well if you do) - among the 3 + 2 flavors we got [blueberry (something with granola), pumpkin (not spice with chunks of graham cracker crust), banana creme brulee, salted caramel, and mango], mango was the clear winner. The more complicated the mix, the less true the flavor. - pick your favorite, but strongly suggest that you stick with the basics like fruit or chocolate. Enjoy!

The gelato is so delicious and there are so many different flavors to choose from, it can be busy in the afternoon, but only because it's so delicious. The employees are so upbeat and kind, and don't get annoyed even after you've asked for 10 samples of their flavors. The inside is chill and has artwork that cleverly incorporates gelato in it.

First visit.Shop was very busy! Difficult to know where to place your order. They need stands and ropes to distinguish a more organized area. They also need a readable menu, either on a board or printed. People were in the way so you couldn't see what was available. Gelato was delicious!

So amazing! The staff was fantastic! I was in town visiting family and we stopped in late night after being on the road all day sightseeing. There were so many amazing g choices and being able to sample was great. Loved the cardamom, pistachio mascapone Carmel, and coconut were some stand outs, but really I think everything we tried was a winner! Can't wait to go back!

Best gelato I've had on the East Coast. The dark chocolate should be illegal it's so good! We tasted almost everything and the servers were really sweet about letting us try all the different flavors.

I had to come back here on my return trip to Brunswick. They are still great and will even spilt the little "treat" sized serving. Check it out!

Loved this cute gelato shoppe. The flavors were all so delicious. It was difficult to choose between so many flavors. Very kind staff offering tasting of any of the flavors.

Dropped by on a whim- it's good stuff! There was a long line, but they were doing their best to move people through at a decent clip. We all enjoyed what we saw ordered- no complaints. They do have quite a variety and some of what i call 'kitchen sink' flavors that have a little of everything.

Terrific selection of delicious options, great staff. Great location in downtown that can be walked to easily from local inns.

Such a wonderful place. I've been going here for years and it's always amazing. So many good flavors with new ones each month. Super kind and helpful staff. I love that they let you try flavors until you find the ones you like. And a nice place to just hang out and chat if you're not a coffee shop person.

I knew I liked gelato... I just didn't know how much I liked it until I went to the gelato fiasco. A shining example of how an ice cream shop should be run... Or in this case of gelato shop. A true gem in the town of Brunswick Maine .

It is often hard to screw up ice cream or its analogues-- given the consumer scenario of "it's hot and I want a cold tasty treat of some description"- but Gelato Fiasco pushes the boundaries of gastronomic imagination even for an ice cream place that is already able to enjoy that baseline. We've got our regular flavors like chocolate or peanut butter, and then we've got more exotic ones with ginger and cardamom. Some of them have little cookie bits. You can get waffle cones and a bazillion flavors. They are (usually) offering samples, too, so you can try whatever before ordering, but I suggest you just go for it. Service is fast and friendly!

Favorite Dessert place in town. The gelatos are delicious. I stop by here every time I'm in Maine. I enjoyed the fall flavor (Apple Mascarpone Pecan) gelato.

Solid gelato shop! I got four flavors in a large cup: lemon blueberry cheesecake, stracciatella, raspberry truffle, and torched marshmallow s'mores. We were able to sample as many flavors before placing our order. Wait wasn't too long even with 5-6 people in front of us. The two flavors I enjoyed the most were the raspberry truffle and lemon blueberry cheesecake. Really nice tartness from the raspberry and the chocolate shavings paired nicely with it. Lemon blueberry cheesecake was also super good! Had a cheesecake base flavor and lots of lemon swirls and blueberries made this really tasty.

Great experience here once again. Ambiance inside was vibey and cozy. A multitude of flavors that never fail to disappoint. I got strawberry balsamic which was delicious with a slight tartness. The apple crisp was absolutely amazing with a sweet cinnamon flavor. The service here was also very nice. Definitely coming back!

With friendly service and a wide selection of flavors, Gelato Fiasco offers something for everyone. There is a very relaxed atmosphere because people are happily eating the wonderful gelato. They have different size options and they can pack a pint to go or you can pick up a pint from the freezer.The outdoor seating allows people a place to sit with their dogs.

Wow, what an assortment of delicious gelato! Smooth, rich and just so tasty, it makes a 55 degree day in May feel like summer is just around the next bend. So many flavors to choose from--with some dairy free options (mango is unreal), everyone is happy. Very kind and helpful staff, good vibe, the decor is cozy and honestly, give me any excuse to eat some gelato and I'm there, so this wasn't a hard sell when my partner suggested this spot--Who doesn't love gelato tho...?!!

So... yes, I've had superlative gelato like this before. And I have had superb service at ice cream shops. But never had I encountered service where they made you feel good about trying almost or all the flavors they had!!! Lana kept suggesting other flavors we might like based on the tasters we had, answering any and all our questions while offering tasting notes on what was in each flavor, elevating our experience to a joyous delirium of sugary overload. Throw in the uber cool decor, and the playful names of gelato that identify seriously intense flavor bombs... what are you waiting for?

The atmosphere here is great- easy going music and lighting, an interesting assortment of seating arrangements to accommodate different configurations of folks from families to couples to larger groups. The staff were efficient and really nice. I threw out my gelato however after a few bites because it lacked the density you expect from a true gelato and lacked the intensity and depth of flavor from good gelato. I ordered red flannel whoopie pie, which tasted oddly like a cheesecake frosting, and a classic stracciatella which had almost no flavor other than creamy with too few hints of chocolate. Points for service, atmosphere, and cleanliness but gelato, the "Maine" attraction, was flavorless and tasted full of air, like an Americanized version of the real thing. Once was enough for me.

Our favorite gelato - so many delicious, rich flavors. So smooth it provides the perfect end of a meal (take several pints home). Take a bag of God of Thunder coffee and one or several of their 'so chocolatey' (that's a word!) cookies and you'll be happy

Gelato fiasco is a great place to relax and get a drinking chocolate in the winter. It's also nice and warm inside so eating gelato is terrific in winter too. They have a nice variety of comfortable seating and very friendly staff. They even compost as much of their waste as possible!

This is my favorite Gelato place ever.....and I love myself some gelato... this place is fantastic! The quantities are huge. Gelato was high quality with many options and the staff was very friendly and patient while you decide what you want. Highly highly recommend this spot if you are in the area.

When a previous reviewer compared this gelato to some of that found in Italy, it was impossible to imagine. But in fact, it's true! The only thing missing is panna! Grazie mille.

Ice cream makes everyone happy, but Gelato Fiasco makes me happy + 1. Great - and sometimes unusual - selection of flavors, every single one of them delicious. The staff are wicked friendly and always happy to allow samples of anything you'd like. Honestly I don't know what you're waiting for; who doesn't need to be happy +1?

Mainer by upbringing, now in New York City. I have been coming here for years, in both summer and winter months, and Gelato Fiasco is still ounce for ounce consistently the best gelato I've had in the U.S. Prices are fair, service is friendly, samples are free, and the end product is outstanding. Sea salt caramel, lemon sorbet, and raspberry truffle are all favorites, but you really can't go wrong. Not yet convinced? I once walked for 30 minutes across lovely Brunswick in 10 degree brutally cold January weather to eat this excellent gelato. If I can do that, what's keeping you?

Gelato is amazing! As good as I've had anywhere. Lots of flavors to choose from, and they're all excellent. Fun atmosphere and nice seating available. The staff is always friendly and accommodating no matter how long the line is! Very popular place for students as well as locals. This place is a gem.

I loved my caramel I bought yesterday and the guy scooping was very friendly! I even signed up to be a regular.

This place really deserves the full 5 stars. I love gelato and this is some of the best I've ever had. I got a waffle cone filled with blueberry crisp and salted chocolate caramel and both flavors were amazing. I wish I loved nearby so I could go all the time. Do not hesitate to stop by!

Amazing place and the gelato is out of this world! When grandkids from out of town visit us, they always want to go here! It's not just a favorite for kids though, they have a huge variety of flavors and allow you to taste test before buying.

I just had my very first cone from this establishment and it was AMAZING. Wild Maine Blueberry Crisp and Salted Caramel mixed together in a waffle cone. Wow. If you are in the Brunswick area and it's time for desert, your decision is made.
