California's Santa Ynez Valley: Where to Stay, Eat, Drink, and Play

"I found the Santa Ynez Inn reminiscent of a historic inn but luxurious, with elegant furnishings, a spa, an inviting outdoor area with a fireplace and firepits, a gourmet breakfast and wine hour, a relaxing library room for a glass of wine or a whiskey tasting, and lush gardens and a remodeled Coach House that make it a popular wedding venue." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. We enjoy luxury & good food. The Inn provided the luxury and the town has several excellent places to eat, within easy walking distance, including the Victor right next door. We walked around the town, and did a bit of wine tasting and olive oil tasting, but relaxing with a book in the in-room hot tub, and in a wing-chair by the fireplace with a bottle of wine was the highlight for us. Included great breakfast and complimentary wine hour was a nice touch. We stayed last year, and enjoyed it so much, we did it again this year.

The attention to detail here is well beyond many of the "luxury" hotels I've staid in. All of the furniture, fixtures and decor are high quality and well maintained. I love how they have music piped into the room, too - adds a relaxing and charming touch. The bathtub was nice and big, very clean, and the bubbles were so relaxing! I also loved the wine tasting & cheese reception, and the dessert reception. ||||We had amazing tri-tip at Victor and enjoyed the amazing outdoor setting.||||The coach house was a lovely setting for our meeting, and the lunch food was fantastic.||||They do seem better set up for weddings than business meetings in the audio-visual department, but we were still able to make things work. Just bear in mind if you have big presentations or hybrid (virtual) meetings you're planning.

Really loved our stay here! Beds and rooms were super comfortable and it's right in town so it's super easy to walk to all of Santa Ynez's shops and restaurants. Definitely arrive + check in in time for their wine hour if you can :)

Two nights, large King room with a veranda. The great; the room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. It was also very clean and had some great touches like a fireplace and a jazz sound track… The good: Amenities like firepits, library and whiskey tastings and bikes to borrow are cute. The Victor is right next door and essential first night dining for proximity. Okay: Breakfast was alright, hard to compete in a town like Santa Ynez with so many options. The service was inconsistent, however, strong praise for the evening shift front desk; she was great both nights. Will stay again.

The hotel was clean, and had wonderful amenities in the room. Staff was attentive. Breakfast was good but would not rate it as excellent. Evening desserts was store bought cookies, nothing to match the level of the hotel.

What a lovely experience. Happy hour was fabulous the seating area outside and inside were cozy and beautiful. Using the wine passport was a perk added to all other perks like a delicious breakfast!

Visited July 8th-10th for my husband’s birthday . Stayed in room #202, upstairs tower facing street, which was noisy .||We have been visiting for the past 10 years, multiple times a year , always on ground level with a cozy little patio, usually by fountain .||This room had no patio, and I felt claustrophobic right away . We asked “Richard” by the front desk if he had anything available with a patio , he was patient in the beginning , and took the time to show us two other options (had a old smell )so we did not like them . We then asked for a ground floor room and was told “nothing available “ As we settled in our room which had a Huge closet (but no hangers ) my husband called Richard at the front desk asking for some , Richard at this point lost his patience with us , and according to my husband had a tone with him , not very professional. The furniture was worn down , mattress uncomfortable and the room service also not acceptable, empty food containers left behind , bed pillows left on chairs , and dirty towels just left hanging over bathtub .The breakfast which is included (but you pay for as in guest amenity fee of $40) per night , was so bad that I didn’t even want to take advance of it the day of our departure. The young man who took our order never checked up on us , my scrambled eggs were powered eggs and my bacon was soft and rubbery (no way that was real bacon ) could not eat it , past trips I have always enjoyed the breakfast , not sure what has changed .This is the first time in all these years that I have had this kind of experience here , I have always loved it which is why we kept coming back , after this last trip I honestly don’t feel like another visit. This place used to be so magical to us , this trip was just so disappointing in so many ways 😕And how about wishing my husband a Happy birthday upon arrival , small gesture that some ppl might appreciate .
