Cycle Nelson – Tahuna Beach Holiday Park

We’ve just got back from a custom 2 day cycle round parts of the Great Taste Trail. Had a wonderful time - all arranged and coordinated by Bernie and Chris. The lodge we stayed in overnight was brilliant - a real rural retreat with the most amazing home cooked food. E-bikes were a godsend on the 115km we covered. Bikes were well maintained and plenty of choice. Highly recommended!

Stopped by on our way through Nelson to hire the Bowhead Rogue powered handcycle (e-handbike) I’m a wheelchair user who travels all over the world and this is the first place I’d ever heard of that has this sort of equipment (I’ve since heard there is also a second one of these bikes in Arrowtown!). Not only do they actually have a hand bike available for hire but it is a good one at that, electric assist, all wheel suspension and very well kept, perfect for people with mobility restrictions. It’s so refreshing to be able to enjoy these trails with my wife for once. Thank you to Bernie and the team for making this possible and supporting disabled people and promoting accessible tourism!

Fantastic Experience with Gentle Cycling! We booked the Great Taste Tour (just over 200km in 5 days) almost a year in advance, and from start to finish, the owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. Their attention to detail made the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. The day-by-day guide was absolutely fantastic. The route was easy to follow and the guide provided excellent tips on where to eat, drink, and what must-see spots to check out along the way. It made our journey all the more enjoyable and stress-free. Accommodations were included and exceeded our expectations. We especially loved staying at the Kimi Ora Resort and the Hidden Sculpture Garden cottage—both were unique and memorable. Bag transfers between stops were handled perfectly, and we had zero issues with our luggage. Even when I had minor bike issues, they were quick to resolve everything, which was a huge relief. The ride itself was stunning. Even on the one rainy day, the mix of quiet asphalt roads, gravel paths, and dedicated bike trails kept the journey enjoyable. The distances each day were manageable, with little elevation gain, making it perfect for standard bikes. While I personally enjoy climbing, others might prefer ebikes for the added ease. The bikes provided were simple, reliable, and perfectly suited to the tour. Overall, we wouldn’t hesitate to book with Gentle Cycling again. I highly recommend them to anyone considering a cycling adventure. It was a truly memorable trip!

We were well looked after by Bernie when we hired eBikes to cycle along the Great Taste Trail last week. Appreciated the pickup service at the start and end of the day and very informative suggestions accompanied by maps about sightseeing options and routes, primarily on bike tracks. Great!! The bikes were in excellent condition and we had so much fun. Only difficult bit was narrowing down which places we would stop for food, drink and a closer look. Cheese tasting and morning tea at the Factory Corner. Loved our wine tasting at Seifried Estate Cellar door and lunch at their Harvest restaurant. The Ride to Rabbit Island was interesting as we traversed country lanes. Ran out of time to fit in a Brewery Visit, but next time! Fabulous, fun day. Thank you Bernie!

We had a great experience with Cycle Nelson! They were very accomodating letting us pick-up our bikes early and allowing us to ride back to our hotel in Nelson for them to pick them up there. Super helpful. Highly recommend this company for cycling around the Nelson and Able Tasman areas!

A very good experience 😊 Everything is perfect at " the gentle cycling company". I'm paraplegic , they had a e- handbike. With it I had a very pleasant ride. Bernie and Chris were extremely nice and attentive. Thanks a lot

We are a retired couple from Canada and came here to Nelson hoping to get out and explore part of the Great Taste trail. Called up at 10am and were helped by Claire. Our bikes were ready, and we were fully briefed about the route and on the trail with good bikes by 11:15.The trail was a joy, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute and we felt well supported on our self-guided day trip. Heartily recommend this company.
