The George & Dragon

Had a meal and a few beers. Choice of 3 draft Beers and a number of lagers. Also all the other drinks that you expect in a traditional pub. Beers were very good, obviously well kept. We had a meal. My Steak and Ale pie, chips and peas was very nice. The pie had plenty of meat and gravy with a puff pastry lid. It was served piping hot. Due to covid we sat outside for our meal. There were seating at the front onto the market square, at the back in the garden and there were tables in the pub reserved for diners. There were a number of people drinking in the pub on the Wednesday night we visited. Would visit and drink and eat in the George and Dragon when next staying in the area.

Just what we needed after a short walk to the stepping stones. We had traditional pub grub. Scamp & chips and lasagne & chips a beer and a fruity cider. Was over £30 seemed about the right price? Staff were attentive and very dog friendly 👍🏻

We called in for drink and food after it was highly recommended by a local man. The staff were very helpful and friendly. My husband enjoyed his sausage and mash, I personally wouldn't recommend the fish and chips.

Although it was busy, the staff were all very friendly and attentive. Our meals were all very tasty, served piping hot and good value. Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming. Just what we wanted.

Love this place; a regular haunt whilst waiting for a Take Away. However, £12.15 for 1 1/2 pints of Wainwright’s (£8.10/pint & £4.05/half); then, £6.35 for a half-pint of Special Christmas beer … ouch!

We came here for food after a walk and it didnt disappoint, very tasty and a great portion size so definitely a great choice. Also dog friendly!

Such lovely food served by friendly people in a dog friendly environment. Gravy bones on the bar and tolerant of big dogs! Nice garden area to the rear with cover if needed. Food was cooked to perfection and in super sized portions! I had the Souvlaki which was tasty with a crisp and fresh salad, with some of the best chips ever, my partner had the home made pie which looked perfect! Definitely will come again. Nice beers too!

Great pub and atmosphere. Lovely food and varied menu. My son's meal was late coming and the staff waived the price and reimbursed us. Only top quality venues pro-actively provide these service levels.

We were on our way to meet friends for a weekend and had left a little late, but fancied lunch on the way. It proved rather difficult to find anywhere at about 3.30 - most places on the way only did lunch from 12-2, even on a Friday, so we were pleased to see George & Dragon serving throughout the day. There was a Friday special of two fish and chips for £14 - their other special didn't work on a Friday (which was a very good deal) - but I fancied the gammon and chips which was well cooked (as was my husband's fish and chips!) The irony of our visit is that I refused to pay 50p for a pub carpark in Lichfield which had meals for 2 for £10, but ended up paying over £2 for car parking in Ashbourne - and over £20 for two meals! We don't venture into pubs that much, but we were very pleased to find a real community atmosphere, with a warm welcome for everyone, from the two people playing pool in one area to the family with children having a soft drink in another.
