The George & Dragon hotel | Buckinghamshire | England | Smith Hotels

"If you row your boat gently down the River Thames to Marlow, merriment comes in the form of boutique bolthole The George & Dragon. The town’s rowing heritage is rich, but you can also dip your toe into high-street mooches, hikes in the Chiltern Hills and river-path rambles. And with its mod-country interiors, refined seasonal dining and courtyard terrace, life is but a dream at this ravishing pub with rooms." - Mr & Mrs Smith

A warm welcome and a menu to choose from which for lunch has everything from smaller dishes to classic mains. My favourite were the pea, broad bean and feta croquettas. Service was lovely, there when needed and not over the top. It was good to see plenty of people also having lunch on a Monday. The restaurant and bar area are huge so I hope lots of people go and keep it busy. The renovation and refurbishment are superb and where we sat was light and airy. The manager was lovely at the end, double checking everything was ok!

We went this evening (Saturday night) for dinner and were seated in the rear conservatory area. The refit has been done very well and the new pub is a very inviting place to eat. The service was excellent and the food was equally as good. The fish mains had been prepared carefully and cooked very well. Probably the best meal we have had in Marlow for some time and will certainly be returning. A great addition to the town.

Went for lunch yesterday (25/08). Lovely courtyard but very busy. We were delighted to find a table and asked a member of staff if we could order. We were asked to use the QR code on the table. The QR code didn’t work for meals only drinks and bar snacks. I ordered from the bar but had to wait as another customer was complaining. I ordered the steak and ale pie and a sparkling water which cost £23.71. The meal came and I was very disappointed as it was a small pie, a small portion of mashed potatoes and four (yes 4) runner beans. The pie was very average and the potato was dry. I left the potato as for me it was inedible. I think the meal was very overpriced for the portion size and quality. |I found the staff lovely and the setting great but the food was very average and not adequate for lunch (for me anyway!). I appreciate it was Bank Holiday and very busy which is the reason I didn’t complain at the time. I regret not sending the meal back and asking for a refund. My friend bought the lamb and he left most of it. My other friend got fish and chips and they were good (he took pity and gave me 3/4 of the chips) |It’s such a shame the food was so average at best and overpriced in my opinion.

Wow what a lovely hotel. We received a free upgrade on arrival to a beautiful suite (room 2) so that was a great start! The location is perfect. Staff were so kind and attentive. Food was top notch and we had beautiful weather. Parking wasn't easy but Marlow suffered with that and it's not the hotels fault. Our overnight fun was the best we've had in a long time. TY TG&D we will be back!!

Enojoyed an excellent lunch with friends. The staff were friendly and efficient. Daniel was particularly helpful in sorting out our individual bills. We all enjoyed our individual dishes and found it good value. I would recommend it as a nice meal out.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and also ate in the restaurant. Room great, the food was excellent but what stood out was the cheerfulness and helpfulness of the staff - they were excellent and we would love to stay again. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic addition to the eateries in Marlow. Hats off to the team here, we were welcomed with a beaming smile and that set the standard for all the team there. First class service, excellent food and great choice of drinks and wines. The interior design is stunning, and the garden areas are 5 star ! Just "how it should be" ! Excellence all the way !

Lovely hotel, the attention to detail in the rooms really makes this place. I stayed in a snug room, far from snug. Great size, lovely en suite shower. Bed super comfy. Great coffee, lovely personalised note on arrival. Stayed for a family birthday , and family who stayed elsewhere wished they had chosen here.

Yelp
Diabolical... Booked in for Christmas dinner , they had clearly overbooked . Told on arrival hour and a half wait for a table . We left along with quite a few other people, still waiting for refund . Not one apology from staff for ruining our Christmas. Avoid at all costs

Yelp
Poor food and even worse service makes the restaurant portion of this establishment a weak dining choice.

Yelp
Good service, many choices of beers and ales. Average pub with outside seating, although on the main road. Nice place to sit down and view the church with that deserved pint.

Yelp
I feared the worse when I saw the generic looking menus but it was unfounded. I had a very nice seafood linguine (a bit of rocket on top was a nice touch) and the gammon steak. Very well priced as well.

Yelp
The George and Dragon in Marlow has been refurbished and re-opened last summer. It is now attached to the new Premier Inn. I have been there on two occasions for Lunch and each time I have had a fairly well priced meal. First time a had the roast chicken and my friend had a curry. And the second time we all had the burgers (which were about £6.95 I think and came with 2 toppings from a choice of things like cheese, mushrooms, guacamole). The quality probably isn't amazing, but it is really quite good value for money. The staff were friendly and polite.
