I would NEVER go back!
By far the rudest bar staff I’ve ever encountered.
My friends and I were in Margate for a weekend away and stopped at this pub. We sat down at a table and went up to the bar for drinks. A young brunette behind the bar snapped at people to “move to the side of the bar as there’s too many people.” No “please,” no “thank you” — just plain rude from the outset.
I ordered two ciders for myself and my sister. When we took them back to the table and tried them, they tasted strange — almost soapy. I brought them back up and politely explained that something seemed off.
The man behind the bar didn’t even try to listen or understand. He cut me off and said, “Well that’s funny, because I’ve been serving them to everyone else without a problem. You clearly just don’t like them then.”
I was shocked by how rude and dismissive he was — completely unprovoked. I replied calmly, “You can taste it if you like, it just seems a bit off,” and instead of checking properly, he stuck his nose near the glass and said again, “Nope, they’re absolutely fine. You obviously just don’t like them.”
He repeated that line twice, with an exasperated look on his face — like I was being a nuisance for simply raising a concern. I was so taken aback I literally said, “Oh my god” out loud. His tone was blunt, cold, and aggressive. No effort to be polite, helpful, or even professional. It honestly felt like he was trying to embarrass me for speaking up.
Eventually, after I challenged his attitude with an “Excuse me!?”, he said, “I’ll get you another,” and poured a fresh one — again, without any apology or acknowledgment.
I went outside to try to speak to a manager. A younger guy was standing near the entrance, and when I asked for a manager or name, he looked at the floor and mumbled, “We don’t give out names. If you’re concerned, write an email.”
It wasn’t just me — other people coming in were visibly put off by the staff’s behaviour. Yes, it was busy, but that’s no excuse for treating customers so badly.
Awful service. A real shame, because it’s a lovely-looking pub — but I’d never go back.
