"This boutique hotel, located in the vibrant St. Georg district, has a distinctly British theme, from its sophisticated name to its dapper decor, which includes Osborne & Little wallpaper, chesterfield armchairs, and rocking chairs with Union Jack cushions. Guests will also find colonial style in the form of exotic wooden furnishings and dark timber floors, as well as Italian flavors at Restaurant DaCaio, which serves classic dishes like black truffle tagliatelle and flambéed king prawns. There’s also a bar specializing in cocktails made with rare spirits, an elegant library, a small garden, and a light-filled spa. The immaculately appointed rooms, including seven suites, feature a refined earth-tone color scheme, monochrome bathrooms, and a mix of art, fashion, and historic photos on the walls. In summer, the rooftop Campari Lounge is a wonderful place to sip drinks while watching the sun set over the Alster."

The George Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany) 25 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The gentrifying and newly hip Hamburg neighborhood of St. Georg is where the George gets its name — and you can bet there’s a sensible reason why they’ve anglicized it. Hamburg’s relationship with England goes back a long way — it’s no accident that the Beatles did their apprenticeship here — and it’s that relationship in particular that the George’s owner and designer sought to underline." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is very nice. We loved the decoration. The rooms are not big but sufficient, the breakfast is not cheap but definitely worth the value. The breakfast staff is super friendly and serving you quick you get fresh coffee and eggs, omelette included in the price. The location is good there is a bus stop very close which takes you to the centre. On the other side of the hotel there is the river and a river restaurant. The bar has a very big offering and it has a great atmosphere. We enjoyed having a beer there.||The two negative things for us over that the hotel actually didn’t have any summer blankets in June we got very thick winter blankets. And even if we asked for change, they said they do not have any. It was very warm like that. The other thing is rather minor but it could be an easy fix: the hairdryer was full of dirt and therefore it couldn’t take any fresh air so it switched off after 1 minute then you have to wait again until it cools down. this should be definitely replaced.

I'm really puzzled by the bad reviews and Hollywood movie level drama that some of these reviewers talk about. We arrived way before check in time, pleasantly asked if there was any way we could check in if a room was available, and guess what, we were allowed to check in earlier. No argument, no eye rolls from the staff at the check-in counter and no drama. Any request we had, from firmer pillows to borrowing an umbrella, was fulfilled with a smile. Hotel isn't brand new, obviously, so some of the traffic areas of the rooms and hallways may seem tired, but at no time did I feel like I wasn't getting my money's worth, or that the state of the room was so bad, I would feel compelled to leave a scathing review about my experience. This is a good hotel, with some eclectic decor, a friendly staff and a good restaurant. Bed was comfortable, no one barged in my room when it wasn't expected and my room was clean. I'd come back no problem. Sometimes being a nice person goes along way.

We've stayed at the George many times over the last few years. It's a very nicely designed and comfortable hotel, both in the public areas (lobby, restaurant and bar, and library rooms) and the guest rooms. The restaurant does excellent Italian food in the evening, and provides a high quality and extensive breakfast selection in the morning, while the bar does great cocktails and is a popular local venue in itself. The rooms are stylish and well equipped, with nespresso coffee machines and minibars. The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful, in the bar, restaurant and reception, with particular mention for Jutta Knupper at reception, who was very helpful at check in with a requested room change on arrival. The hotel location is excellent, in the St George area, full of cafes, restaurants and shops, a few mins from the Alster Lake, and not far from the inner city.

Very nice hotel, about 15-20 minutes walk from the central train station and the old town. Design is nice and artsy and there is a nice library room on the ground level as well as a spa with a sauna on the 6th floor. Rooms are small but comfortable.

This hotel has nothing to do with Marriott Bonvoy standards. The staff are not friendly and lack the customer service experience and knowledge. The room is too dark , bathroom shower area is not well designed at all . The other rooms empty plates and bottles were left in the corridor of our floor for over 14 hrs , no one bother to clean it up next day . The toilets on the ground floor were too dirty at 11 am , obviously it was not clean after previous night partying. When we gave our feedback to the receptionist, obviously she has no experience nor the audacity to deal with the situation . It was a bad choice for sure . Breakfast was good and staff was ok .

Stylish, laid-back design hotel with true dog-friendly charm We stayed at The George Hotel on our way up north, and although we’d previously stayed at the nearby Atlantic Hotel (which wins in terms of lakeside location and classic luxury), we honestly preferred The George for its laid-back charm, beautiful design, and overall guest experience. It’s located just a short walk from the Alster and the best parts of St. Georg, tucked a bit up the street in a quiet but well-connected spot. The hotel has a very stylish, artsy vibe throughout — from the elegant lobby to the individually designed rooms. ✅ Room highlights: • Very comfortable bed • Super clean and well-designed bathroom • Pleasant room temperature and a quiet night’s sleep • Parking garage underneath (tight but fits an X5 – 1.90 m height limit) We didn’t try the breakfast, but we did enjoy a drink and snack at the hotel’s ground-floor bar and restaurant upon arrival. It’s not a scenic terrace (street-facing), but it has a nice atmosphere and good quality food and drinks. 💡 Dog-friendly done right We paid €35 per night for our dog — pricey, yes, but it comes with great value: • A cozy dog bed & blanket • Bowls for food and water • A delicious treat from the Pet Shop Boys store just down the street Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the rooftop terrace, which was the only small downside in an otherwise very welcoming setup. 🐾 Bonus tip: After check-in, head to Pet Shop Boys to stock up on treats, toys, and travel goodies — highly recommended! 💬 Final verdict: If you’re into design-forward, upscale business hotels or enjoy Marriott Bonvoy perks, The George is a great choice. It’s not as grand as the Atlantic, but it makes up for it with character, comfort, and service. We’ll definitely return.

Wonderful location, friendly and welcoming staff! The room is comfortable and very clean and there is even a yoga mat in the room. The decoration of the lobby and the rooms opening to the lobby are charming.

The hotel is tired. Needs a renovation. The carpet in the room feels very unsanitary. The hotel has a nice view from the top over the lake. No real room service or amenities. Lovely staff however

So the food is good, expensive for Hamburg, but well presented and a carefully selected menu. Great tiger prawns. The bewildering thing is that whilst the waiters, maitre d' and the menu all seem Italian, the food seems remarkably French - lots of jus and reduction, not so much of the fresh flavour. If someone knows the chef, say bonjour from me. Very stylish, and seems to hit it off with the well-heeled of Eppendorf. Really good wine list, including a great Sardinian white (can't remember the name). To go to the toilet you have to voyage far into the centre of the earth, and may well miss coffee navigating back. I'd go back.
