I stopped by George Street Diner and went for their classic breakfast, and honestly, the whole experience felt exactly like what a proper downtown diner should deliver. The plate came out looking unapologetically old-school: two fried eggs done clean and simple, a grilled tomato on the side, a pile of hand-cut fries that were uneven in the best way, baked beans, sausages, and a couple slices of hearty toast. Nothing on the plate tried too hard — it was just good, straightforward diner food.
The fries were the standout: crispy, messy, and clearly made by a human instead of a frozen bag. The beans leaned sweet, the sausages had a solid bite, and the eggs were cooked exactly as ordered without any diner chaos messing them up. Even the small touches, like the metal creamers for the coffee, added to the charm. It’s the kind of breakfast that doesn’t pretend to be “elevated” or “crafted” — it just hits the spot.
George Street Diner has that familiar Toronto vibe where the food isn’t perfect, but the experience is. It’s warm, casual, and real. If you’re looking for a no-nonsense breakfast that fills you up and actually feels like a diner, this place delivers.
