I stayed at The George for several nights while visiting Malta solo, and overall it was a good base — modern-looking hotel with clean interiors and a great location in St Julian’s, close to beaches, cafes, and transport links.
The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were polite, though not overly warm or engaging. Breakfast was basic but fine — I stuck with the ham and cheese omelettes most mornings. The rooftop pool is decent if you want a quick dip, but the view shown in photos is a bit misleading — tall new buildings have sprung up all around it, so it’s now quite enclosed and not the open skyline view you might expect. The strawberry Mohitos from the pool bar are delish.
One thing worth mentioning: a building on the same street had recently collapsed (Tania Flats), and while this happened before my arrival, the debris was still there — a stark reminder of how serious the incident was. What stood out, though, was how the local authorities evacuated residents ahead of time and prevented any injuries. I found it reassuring to see how it was handled, even if the visual impact is still very fresh in the area.
Overall, The George is a solid hotel if you want a stylish base in a buzzy part of town. Just don’t expect luxury-level service or amenities, and be aware that the surrounding neighbourhood is changing fast.
