The Ghan Kebab House

Last Friday, a group of 14 of us had dinner here to celebrate a friend’s 60th birthday. Thanks to our reservation, we were seated promptly despite the restaurant being quite full. We ordered a wide variety of dishes—the Mashawyat Mazdat, tandoori chicken, lamb and chicken nasi biryani, eggplant masala, and plenty of naan—along with mango lassi and Coke. The food arrived quickly, and the service was efficient throughout the evening. Everything was tasty, hearty, and satisfying. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed a wonderful dinner together.

Cannot express how fantastic the food is! Every single dish we ordered just was a complete standout! The lamb shin was so soft it fell off the bone. The chicken kebab roll was juicy and soft and so flavoursome. The chicken curry had the most sensational flavours and the most tender chicken. The eggplant was soft, buttery, sweet and just divine! The lamb skewers, wow, just wow! The lamb was so tender! The lamb mince so tasty! Even the rice had an addictive chewy, the texture was perfection. Top of my list for middle eastern. The staff were so incredibly warming and lovely. Shout out to Ali and Reza, you provided a wonderful dining experience, thank you. So attentive and thoughtful and accommodating. Can't wait to come back!

Starting with the service: there were two girls at the counter, but despite waiting to place an order, neither of them seemed bothered to assist us. I politely asked one of the ladies if she could help take our order, and she bluntly said no, claiming only one counter was open—while she continued gossiping. When we asked a simple question about whether fruits could be added to the falooda, the response was “I don’t know.” No effort to check, no interest in helping. To make matters worse, when the falooda finally arrived, it was literally thrown onto the table and the staff member walked away. No respect, no courtesy, no smile, no “thank you.” The only positive part of the experience was the robot delivering the food—sadly, it showed more professionalism than the staff. This is by far the worst service I’ve experienced in 2025. Completely unacceptable. They truly deserve a 0 rating.

Very disappointing experience. The lamb had a really strong, unpleasant smell and wasn’t tender at all. It was tough and hard to enjoy. Overall, the quality didn’t match the price at all. Definitely not worth what we paid, and I left with a bad experience.

Food fit for a caveman in the best way possible. The naan came out like a freshly baked shield, huge, soft in the middle, crispy around the edge. Could’ve used it as a blanket if I wasn’t already tearing into it like a hungry caveman. The biryani? Fluffy, fragrant, loaded with flavour and proper chunks of meat. Not that dry, stingy stuff you get elsewhere. Mixed grill was juicy, tender, smoky. No weak links on the plate. Food came out quick, service was solid, and everything just felt right. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they do. Even the worm inside me left full and happy. Will definitely be back. 100% respect تشکر فراوان (Thank you very much)

Love the freshness and flavours of the meat here. Had the chicken and lamb kebabs which tastes great with the dipping sauces. Had the Dumpling dish which tasted amazing. The Biryani was incredible and the goat curry tasted amazing as well. The inside is setup so beautifully with decorations and lovely decor. The staff are so attentive and great as well.

We’ve been visiting the place many times especially if we have special occasion. As usual, The Ghan delivers always the best kebab and nothing can beat it. Price suits to its quality, quantity, taste and presentation. Staffs are customer friendly. Definitely will keep on coming back. Highly recommend it.

We have been coming to Ghan Kebab for the last 11 years. Always enjoyed the food. However today I realised they stopped serving salad with the kebab. We ordered 4 skewers Chicken Tikka, also Lamb tikka. It came with sauce and bread. When i asked the server if salad was coming, she mentioned we didn’t order it and it has to be ordered with extra charge. It was a surprise as we always ordered same menu and always it came with yogurt, sauce and salad. I said it’s ok. But then when I checked the menu it did mention salad served with it (photo attached). I guess they should change the menu description and take the salad out if they are no longer serving it. As its confusing.

These people are racist. I went there with my mixed race family. There were a bunch of open tables but they told us that no tables were available. We said we would do take out but they said we could not do take out because there was no place to wait for take out, which was ridiculous because there were several people waiting for take out. I can't believe that in this day and age, people are this biased. But I would certainly never eat there, even if they would seat us.

Wow, I gotta get to Prospect more often. This is a fine example of really tasty, well priced Afghan food. If you are into chargrilled meats this is the place for you. A large restaurant with lot's of space for diners. Even a special raised eating area where you can sit on rugs and eat. You can bring the whole family and friends. Lot's of large dining options / banquets on the menu as well. So, this must be a popular thing to do here. We went for the shawarma chicken & lamb at $12 each. Bargain I thought! The meal is served with a small portion of salad, sauces, house cooked breads and the lovely lovely shawarma. The meat was chargrilled, so you could taste a little smoky flavour. It was really well seasoned and had spices in the meat to give it a lovely flavour. The sauces served were a yoghurt style and tomato based. Both worked well with the meat. I would have liked a bit more salad. I was happy and full. We did order a black tea to go with the meal and was surprised to be offered a piece of baklava to go with that. Great value for $3. The tea had a some lovely cardamon and cinnamon in it. Looking forward to return here! Great food and good value!

I love seeing this little gem evolve over the years. It has gone from strength to strength. I recall when it was just a humble kebab shop with a few tables. Their latest extension replaces a portion of the carpark to accommodate more patrons. Clearly their popularity has exceeded expectations. And for very good reason as their food is consistently good! I visit this establishment every few months answering the charcoal meat call. The whole chicken, chicken kebabs, sharmi kebas, okra curry and bread are some of my favourite. As a non red meat eater, I won't comment on the lamb dishes. The service is simple, friendly and efficient. The value is there, but decreasing with every update of their menu / venue. I still think it is great value for what you pay for. However, I would be keeping a very close eye on their numerous competitions down the road, both sides! Look forward to my next visit!

Very very impressed with this place. I went with a group of people ( 6 of us in total) and we picked a meat platter- I could not get over how much food there was and how TENDER all the meat was!! It was so moorish! All of the meat (chicken and lamb pieces) were well seasoned and cooked to perfection! The platter of meats came on a fragrant bed of rice -which was probably the best rice I have tasted in Adelaide! the breads (think they were naan type breads) were hot when they arrived and we were given a number of side dips and a little side salad to share between 2-3 - loved all these little extras :) Tentative service and a relaxed atmosphere make this place a pleasure to dine at. Will be coming back for more.

I've never ventured this far down Prospect Rd but food and water supplies for the day were running low, so my twelve year old assistant (whom I bribed to come with me on this arduous journey) and I had to be fed. But where to eat in this unchartered part of the street? So we took a punt on The Ghan Kebab House. We parked the car directly out the front, I took a quick photo opportunity and we walked in. The smell of char grilled food would be enough to turn any vegetarian into a carnivore, it was mouth watering. The set up looked much like a fish n chip shop but it was a char grill place instead and had a great exhaust above the cooking area so it wasn't smoked up. Having said that the two Aghan guys in the corner I'm sure would've been puffing away on a Hookah given the chance. As a matter of interest the kebab house was semi traditional because one side on the right, was taken up with what appeared to be a raised stage covered in kilms, tapestry cushions and a side table with a electric Afghan style tea kettle. I've never seen this before but was willing to have a more thorough investigation down the road in other local shops of the same culture. My assistant ordered a Single Roll with chicken, it was Tandoori style chicken on what appeared to be a long sword then char grilled and placed in a Yiros style pita bread, accompanied with lettuce, tomato, mayo, dash of pepper. When the chicken was ready the guy placed it across the bread, held it down and slid the meat clean off where it remained in place and rolled up ready to eat. Sure beats the Subway Footlong! It was meant to be shared but my assistant was ravenous so the two bites I got out of it was delicious and next time in passing I will definitey get my own. And you too need to check it out!

We discovered The Ghan Kebab House tonight after deciding to venture a bit further down Prospect Road. The restaurant was quite busy with families, and the staff welcoming. Parking easy at the side, the menu was very good, and the meals very tasty, and generous sized. The menu has some shared options of mixed kebabs which can serve up to 8. This would save a bit of money for families/groups, however we all chose our own meal. My lamb was delicious and tender, everything smelled amazing. We followed up with a shared plate of sweets. The decor is warm and exotic with tapestries, carpets and raised, carpeted platforms for families wanting to dine in a traditional way. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, a great place to gently nudge us ever so slightly out of our comfort zone. Although the cafe does not sell alcohol they do permit BYO at a small charge

Every time we venture down to Adelaide from the NT we always go here. If your lucky you can park out the front, the atmosphere is laid back. The staff are attentive & friendly. The food is beautifully cooked & presented and you always leave full. The meats are cooked the correct way and is melt in your mouth stuff. They now have an ice cream bar, grabbed a toasted coconut cone on my way out to eat on the way home. No, I sat in my car till I devoured every last bit! It was pure ecstasy! And I'm not a real ice cream fan.

Love this place, any time I'm after a good takeaway meal this is the first place that springs to mind. Can't beat the bread they do here but could stand to be a dollar or two cheaper!

Never fails to disappoint, great service from friendly staff. The meats are cooked and spiced just right. Delicious accompaniments including the bread.

Famished from a hard day's work at uni I ventured out into the big wide world in search of a meaty treat that would fill the void in my heart. After what seemed like hours of yelp research on nearby meateries, I stumbled across the middle eastern oasis that was The Ghan Kebab House. Upon entering the shop, a gentle breeze from the kitchen wafted over to me and as I inhaled, I was instantly transported to an exotic world of spices and foreign delight. I was greeted by a well dressed bus-boy, who welcomed me into the shop with open arms. I ordered the number 20, a selection of three kebabs with rice, salad and Lebanese flat bread. As soon as the plate was set before me, I instantly knew that I was inbound for a wild journey of the culinary variety. I picked up my cutlery and began my descent into the lamb mince kebab. No knives were needed for the task afoot, as the spoon which I wielded was more than sufficient to carve the kebab into bite sized chunks. My eyes watered, not from the tantalising spices that encrusted the meat but from the realisation that I could no longer eat anything else without feeling guilt out of betraying The Ghan. The next kebab on the agenda was chicken. This kebab was conveniently already portioned into perfect chunks of gloriously cooked chicken. I decided that these chunks were too large to fit in my unworthy mouth so I decided to wrap them in the beautiful Lebanese bread that accompanied my meal. As I broke the bread, the outer layer crunched whilst the inner fluffy layer tore apart like fairy floss; this bread was cooked to perfection. Despite being cooked over the unrelenting heat of the charcoals, this chicken retained its moisture that caused it to simply break apart in my mouth. The flavour of the chicken was like no other, mere words will not do it justice. The last kebab was the lamb. It had a spiced crusty exterior and a soft, juicy interior that did wonders for my palate. The last item on my plate for sampling was the jasmine rice. It contained raisins and carrot that added an indescribable sweetness to the dish, perfectly complementing the vinegary side sauce. The long grains had a fluffy texture that lifted my spirits and warmed my soul. Being raised in a Christian home, I had been taught that heaven existed. Well ladies, gentlemen and people of undecided or unspecified genders; I truly do believe that what I saw today was a glimpse of paradise. The decor was tastefully selected and the furniture immaculate. The only thing that was cleaner than my plate was the perfectly polished tile floor beneath me. I highly recommend this place for an experience that you will not forget and a meal that will stand the test of time. Five stars can never demonstrate my newfound love for The Ghan, thus I shall award my own stars in honour of my deep gratitude for filling the void in my heart with meaty goodness . I take my hat off to you, The Ghan, and hope to one day return to you so that I may relive the above once again.
