"You have to be here to get the mystery, drama and the magic of the place – photography strangely cannot do the place justice. When the 170-year old Lady Glenorchy Church was converted into The Glasshouse Hotel, the group YTL Hotels transformed it into a stylish comfort zone: magic beds, down duvets and reassuring service. It’s all about the location: you can see Calton Hill and the entire glittering Edinburgh skyline below from most of the rooms – and that’s not to mention the astounding views from the sprawling two-acre rooftop garden. With the Edinburgh Fringe Festival scheduled to be taking place from 6-30 August, expect the Glasshouse to be humming with the great and good of the theatre world."

This is a very lovely and unique property. Perfectly located in the city with easy access to both Old and New Town attractions and tons of restaurants. Beautiful facade fronts a modern hotel with an interior elevated garden that provides extraordinary views and outdoor space to enjoy that feels miles away from the tourist hustle. Rooms were well appointed. Beds incredibly comfortable. The included breakfast was delicious and very fresh and comprehensive. The breakfast and front desk / concierge staff were standouts. Davis helped orient us to the hotel on arrival and was brilliant!

Excellent hotel, centrally located, professional and helpful staff. There’s a large and very pretty interior garden with seating and tables, both for common use and outside each room. Good breakfast, lattes included with Continental option. |Particularly noteworthy was Isaac, the concierge. He is extremely knowledgeable and was able to assist us with good restaurant recommendations, directions to post office, ATM, and helped us determine the best way to get to our next destination. I would stay here again.

I spent four exceptional days at The Glasshouse hotel, a unique retreat in the heart of Edinburgh.||Everything was there: the refined comfort of the suite with a view over the city, the intimate and peaceful atmosphere of the private terrace, and the discreet yet attentive professionalism of the staff. I truly felt at home, but even better.||A special thanks to Meicen for her Scotch tasting, as warm as it was instructive. She skillfully selected whiskies perfectly suited to my personal tastes, taking into account my drinking habits. Her expertise is remarkable: each glass was accompanied by detailed explanations about the aromas, terroirs, distillation processes, types of casks used, and the peaty profile of the different distilleries.||With passion and clarity, she introduced me to the subtleties of the Scotch world, never getting overly technical. Son professionnalisme et sa gentillesse ont vraiment fait la différence.||Thanks to the entire team at The Glasshouse for a stay I will remember as elegant, gentle, and deeply human.||I will gladly return.|||Franck Basset

Google
Marriott this is definitely not one of your usual standard hotels and we have stayed in many. Firstly whilst hotel is in a good location; it dissapoints HUGE. Considering this is an “Autograph Collection “…. Marriott corporate needs to reevaluate.. called twice before arrival to request early check in, not only was I not accommodated, but I had to call front desk twice to ask AND I had to walk back to elevator from lounge go down 3 floors , present to the front desk attendants all after 3:15 to be escorted back up the elevator through the lounge back down to flights of stairs to a musty .. moldy room which was clearly not occupied all day. Lazy front desk or poorly trained… you choose- either way, shame on Marriott .||Secondly after eventually settling into our poorly laid out room, our luggage took another 20 minutes to arrive. Housekeeping non existent due to staffing issues. Never in our 17 hour stay was the carafe of water checked or replenished in the common area outside the rooms. Bone dry for two days… |Worst stay for a Marriott property. Front desk needs a lot of work.|Isaac and his concierge team saves this review-they were great.|Don’t recommend; wouldn’t stay again. Too expensive to be this poorly managed. Not well managed, despite infrastructure challenges beyond the staff’s control.

Google
Room was fine and the bed was comfortable. The layout of the hotel is odd and the layout of our room was also strange. The garden area is pleasant enough if you like that sort of thing. Staff were pleasant enough, but I would not consider this a 5-star hotel.

Google
Beautiful premises with a lovely crew. It's set just far enough back from the tourist center that you can visit if you like without needing transportation, but are also free of the crowds and noise. David and Isaac were instrumental in finding hidden gems to visit in the city, and were such fun to talk to. We will remember them both fondly. A note about booking: request a room away from the roof garden. There was a wild party being held in the event pavilion while we were there with a DJ and bumping music and it appeared that the hotel had signed a contract with said party to allow them to go until nearly midnight. We were mere meters from said party and so could hear every beat and word, and so also got to stay up until midnight as well! We would stay again, but would be very firm about not being placed in one of those rooms. Definitely check in on their events while you're in town. We attended a scotch tasting/pairing and enjoyed ourselves.

Google
The Glasshouse Hotel in Edinburgh is a gem, perfectly located near the city center, offering a trendy atmosphere with a fantastic bar and whisky events. Although I missed the whisky tasting this time, the rooftop garden provided an escape from the other tourists. The highlight of our stay was Isaac, the concierge. From the moment we arrived, he ensured we were well-acquainted with the hotel and the city. His knowledge and delightful demeanor made our experience exceptional. I've never encountered a more dedicated hotel employee. If you're seeking the trendiest and best hotel in Edinburgh, The Glasshouse is it. I'm already looking forward to my next visit, and booking one of their whisky events to make up for missing it on my first go.

Google
Absolutely terrible hotel. I stay for business for 100+ nights per year in hotels and this has got to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I arrived to a room where the bed was not made, no towels were available (due to some technical issues), room wasn’t available until after 6pm, no drinking water in room, the toilet literally didn’t flush with water, staff kept getting confused about what room we have and ended up making us walking into other people’s room, getting to the room on first floor is a labyrinth with the only elevator requiring you to walk to the back of the hotel past a fire escape, and I could keep going on and on. You always expect a few things to go wrong, but this hotel truly needs to re-train their entire staff and do a significant renovation before I could ever recommend it. Whatever you do, avoid this at all cost - there are several wonderful hotels in Edinburgh.

Yelp
We had such a fantastic time staying at this hotel. The service was good even when we did have difficulty they fixed it. But the room was divine. I would stay here again ever time I visit.

Yelp
I would recommend this hotel solely for the location, the breakfast, and kind staff. However, I would not recommend due to the layout and how many hurdles we needed to get through to get to our room: two separate elevators, and three sets of doors. We had to do that every time we came into the hotel. If you don't have much of any luggage, you will be fine. The rooms, and overall hotel was very clean. They have a bar on the third floor, in between the rooms so there are rooms immediately next to the bar, which gets loud. The breakfast was wonderful too.

Yelp
Air conditioning did not work. When paying more than $500 a night one expects a comfortable room. No onsite parking.

Yelp
We were in the city on business for 3 weeks and selected this Hotel as it was close to the clients office. This is a Nice boutique hotel which best fits vacationers NOT business travelers. Worse yet, There is no restaurant on site other than a breakfast room which serves very limited choices at ridiculous prices. For instance one waffle the size of the palm of your hand and 1/16" high with 2 pieces of bacon cost $60USD. There is a buffet which has no hot food. If you love carbs there is a huge abundance of breads and pastries. No protein other than boiled eggs. The people at the front desk were luke warm in their level of customer service. Although the evening front desk clerk, a graceful red haired gentlemen appearing to be in the 50s was extremely accommodating and helpful with restaurant suggestions reservations and directions. What really stood out was a passive aggressive front desk clerk which spent more time telling us what she couldn't do rather than what she could do. For instance, we asked for electric converters US to UK. She reluctantly presented us with 2 and told us we would be charged. Ok that's realistic. We took them and quickly learned they were not US to UK so we went back to the front desk to return them. The same front desk clerk (blonde) led with a line of questioning as if it was our fault. We went back to our room to bring our computer plugs back to the front desk to show her the converter she provided us was not US compatible. After at least 5 minutes of back and forth She reluctantly told us she would credit our account. Then in the middle of our conversation she abruptly left the front desk walking to a back room leaving us awkwardly standing at the front desk alone. Much to her surprise we waited about 5 minutes for her return. we asked where we can go to find the correct converters and she threw her hand up in the air pointing toward the door and said "the mall". We are corporate executives. We travel internationally on business and We are ambassador level. We communicate and operate respectfully and strongly suggest someone use this as an opportunity to teach this front desk clerk that curt and abrupt is not the Marriott brand. Our client received an earful about our experience and likely will not be arranging any further business travelers there.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel and wonderful staff. Monday greeted us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the hotel while giving us a brief run down of the surrounding area. The room, the Glennkinchie suite, was spacious with multiple amenities, including a heated bathroom floor. They offer passes to the gym next door. Breakfast was always delicious and included tastes from the local cuisine. The staff at breakfast was always friendly and gave great tips. Henry (or Harry, I can't remember) was one of the servers that gave us good recommendations for sights. This hotel is central to a lot of major sights. I will miss this place and hope to return one day.

Yelp
Bought an IT IS ON voucher, which included overnight accommodation, full scottish breakfast and a cocktail on arrival. This is still a live deal so i would warn anyone before purchasing!! We were having trouble booking online so contacted them over the phone explained we had voucher and that online booking system was down - to which they advised we could indeed book over the phone. We arrived at hotel, had our stay - no drink was offered as per the voucher Had breakfast and checked out. We was then later charged on our card the full amount to stay at the hotel - we queried this as we had the voucher to which they advised where we booked over the phone this was against the terms and conditions, due to it being online booking only, so would not honour the voucher. After a lot of emails to a fro with JORDAN he suggested out of goodwill to refund some of the payment back - However this still left us £50 out of pocket above the cost of the voucher. JORDAN was not helpful nor understanding in helping us or refunding us the full amount and accepting the voucher, as far as we were concerned all was ok at time of booking over the phone and because the staff were not aware of the voucher deal that became our fault. Would not stay here again and would not recommend due to the lack of customer service surrounding this matter.

Yelp
Such a lovely hotel with wonderful customer service. Our check-in agent Samanta* was extremely detailed and friendly, we were offered mulled wine, toffee and minced pies at check-in. She escorted us all the way up to our room and explain the details of the hotel and the amenities on site. The room was extremely comfortable. We stopped at the on-site bar, as we were given two complimentary house drinks for booking direct with marriott.com. the bartender was a little so quite friendly, and the old fashions were quite good. Very good whiskey selection as well. We did order the chicken and bacon sandwich, and a chicken entree from the restaurant, I would advise to avoid dining.

Yelp
Many 5 star attributes. The hotel layout is unusual - the street side exterior is an old church and every else is modern. The floor arrangement is also unusual, the floor with the breakfast room is not accessible by elevator from the lobby. The front desk staff are excellent, as are the breakfast staff. The accounting department needs improvement.

Yelp
The goods: Location. Pretty walkable location. E arrived by car as we had business in the week. PSA: you have t ok park at the Q park up the road. It's about 24 pounds per 24 night. Recommended you book in advanced for a discount. This isn't in the website. Room: I think we we were upgraded because of bonvoy gold. Room was nice be spacious. Nice robes and heated towels. Bar: we received 2 drink coupons on check in. We used them Friday afternoon. The bar is very nice. We didn't use the restaurant as we ate at other places. Roof top outdoor area: pretty expansive. You can actually over look Edinburgh towards the water from up there. The not so good: Super weird layout. We stayed in the low 100 room numbers. So - we went up to the 3rd floor - crossed the entire third floor passage way, he had to take 2 stairway down to the first level - all while carrying luggage. I'm whining. We could do it, but if you can't, be sure to let the desk know that isn't an option for you. Overall good. Nice place, but not sure if meets autograph collection from Marriott. Recommended.

Yelp
I decided to visit my eldest daughter overseas; she was completing a semester abroad at the Univ of Edinburgh. So my wife looked online and found The Glasshouse. The price couldn't be beat. (Er...thank you exchange rate!) And the location was excellent: at the border between the new and old city. The situation improved further on arrival. Not only did I receive a warm welcome, but they had a room ready for me, even though I had arrived quite early from my overnight flight. (I had notified them days before, and my wife also called ahead to confirm, which surely helped). This allowed me to catch some needed zzz's before my daughter finished classes in early afternoon. "Swanky" was the first word to pop into my head. The building was iconic, the lobby beautiful. The staff were also eager to help, offering restaurant bookings and useful tips. I felt immediately pampered. As for my room, it was lovely; it faced a huge, outdoor, rooftop garden (It was cold & misty weather, but I still enjoyed the abundant light and views of Calton Hill). I was also informed that the bottled water and the stocked minibar were complementary and would be refilled daily. (Seriously?!) Plus the hotel had a whiskey bar, "The Snug," just down the hall offering tastings of nearly 100 scotch whiskeys. Oh my...dangerous. And, as mentioned, the location could not be beat. It was easy walking distance to shops of Princes Street and the pubs & cafes of Rose St. The Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle were not much further. I especially liked the fact that I had easy access to Calton Hill - I could stroll to the top each morning with coffee in hand. The hotel was uniquely shaped. The entrance and lobby were in a converted, stone church building. The remainder of the hotel wrapped around the top and side of a large greenhouse-like entertainment complex (not connected). It seemed to me that some rooms (garden-facing) were better than others (alley/road facing). I was lucky to have the former, so no complaints here. I did have a few issues, but these were minor: -- The multi-latched door to the garden had confusing controls and was hard to close. It typically took me several trial-and-error attempts to get a seal. -- The staff were not always up on local restaurant status. One morning we were directed to a nearby brunch spot, but it had been fully-booked well in advance. We had to divert elsewhere. But overall I had an amazing stay here; it's hard to imagine that I could have found anything better. If I return to Edinburgh some day, and the Glasshouse is available, I'm not sure I'd even bother looking at other hotels.

Yelp
Management does not care about the sleep and welfare of their guests. Allowed a loud OUTSIDE wedding party with LOUD music in their Calton Shiite blasting loud music until the wee hours of the night in their garden without any consideration to the sleep and wellbeing of the paying room guests whose rooms abut their garden. Had no problem charging an upcharge for the garden rooms. BUT absolutely failed to disclose the wedding party and the music at time of check-in or booking. Will never stay here again and will definitely reconsider staying at another Marriott property. If this type of callous disregard to the welfare of hotel guests is ok with Marriott management, then one can only assume that this endemic throughout the Marriott brand of facilities.

Yelp
Our trip to Scotland last year was our favorite holiday we've taken and a huge part of our trip was our stay at The Glasshouse. The hotel is fabulous, the staff is second to none. We went during the holidays so the convenience to the Christmas market and everything in Edinburgh was an added bonus. The food was fantastic and the view from our suite was incredible. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Most excellent hotel and will stay again. The exterior is beautiful. The hotel is clean and modern. We stayed in a room on the top floor with a balcony with a view of Carlton Hills. Great customer service. Check-in and check-out was smooth. It is located in Edinburgh by Princess Street so excellent shopping all around and walkable to various attractions. The only downside, due to the construction of the hotel, it was quite difficult to get an Uber, so call an Uber a little earlier than needed as it is a high traffic area.

Yelp
The staff is OVER THE TOP amazing. They saw us coming up the sidewalk with our suitcases, and came out running to help us. They made us feel special and welcomed from the street. We have titanium elite status and we were upgraded to a spectacular room. It had a large balcony, gorgeous views. They planned our dinners, our cabs, our entertainment. We can not say enough good things about the staff. They would even run and grab us waters to take with us on our walks.

Yelp
We stayed in The Glasshouse for two days while visiting Edinburgh. It is located close to all of the attractions right on the tram line an close to a taxi stand. An important thing to note is that they do not have parking attached to the hotel. You have to park in an Omni parking lot. Also there is not a place to pull in to unload luggage. You have to pull in at the courtyard mariott and call them if you need help with your luggage. We were upgraded to a suite because of my husbands status with Mariott and it was beautiful with a gorgeous balcony. The manager sent around sweets and a welcome card which was a lovely touch. The concierge was very nice and helpful. Turndown service does come quite early and can be inconsistent if you ask them to come back. They have a nice snug with food drinks although the bar tenders can be a bit curt. Would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
We stayed at the Glasshouse for four nights while in Edinburgh. Everything was really great other than housekeeping. On the third day in our suite I happened to move the couch a bit while napping. When I did a bra from a previous guest fell out of the couch. I didn't notice it, but my wife sure did even sure returned from the hike up the hill behind the hotel. We had a good laugh. But the point being housekeeping missed it and it made us wonder how long it was there. Additionally they left obviously dirty dishes in our room for a couple of days. We ended up taking them to the bar ourselves. I didn't mind, but when you're staying in a rather pricey hotel, you expect a bit more. The rest of the experience was great. The staff was very friendly and the location is good. Also if you like Scotch this is absolutely the hotel for you. Trust me on that.

Stephanie O.

Yelp
We stayed in three different Bonvoy properties on a recent trip to the UK and Ireland, and this was the hands-down favorite of everyone in our family. We are Bonvoy Titanium and they made us feel very welcome, but their warmth is unreserved and offered to every incoming guest. Whatever we needed was handled almost instantly and happily. We don't normally ask for the names of staff, but Jamie, Jonathan, Alexander, Kenneth and Susie deserve to be name-checked. It's a completely gorgeous, smart, well-sited property that offers many breathtaking views and a very walkable location where you can get anywhere in the city quickly. A fantastic choice for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Yelp
Would have given this hotel a 4.5 stars if it were an option. Not sure it hits the mark for a 5 Star. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. They had small complimentary water bottles behind the front desk which they were very generous with handing out. The room was clean and I liked the bathroom as it had a stall shower and a tub, and not just a tub shower. One thing I thought was strange was that there was not really an electrical outlet in the bathroom. If you wanted to use a blow dryer you had to go into the bedroom. The room also had a small seating area which I thought was nice. The bar at the hotel was comfortable as well and had a very nice scotch selection. They had a few scotch samplers as well and had a few choices from the Campbelltown distilleries. The fire pit in the middle of the room was cool as well. In terms of location the hotel is in a convenient spot in downtown Edinburgh. It is in the theater district with some restaurants in the immediate vicinity. It's about a 10 minute walk to the top of Calton Hill and about 10 minutes to the Royal Mile as well. The Balmoral hotel is about 5 minutes away. One issue with the hotel that is not the hotels fault in the construction on the street outside the hotel. I didn't hear any noise, but cabs cannot drop you off or pick you up in front. This isn't the end of the world, but it's pain when it's raining Overall this hotel provided a very pleasant stay and the staff were all very nice.

Yelp
We loved The Glasshouse. We stayed for five nights total with our children and families and got to know the staff who were all exceptional with a big shoutout to Alexander and Nico. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable and when we had problems with the AC, they moved us to a larger room with no questions asked. We'll be back.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about this hotel. It is beautiful and in a fantastic location. The staff truly wants to help you enjoy your stay and were so helpful with each request from an electric adapter to cab service to recommendations of a tour guide. Jonathon will help you with any tour or restaurant recommendations and he really enjoys doing it. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or holiday travel. 5 stars.

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 days. The hotel is very pretty but we didnt get any view from the window. We were facing some company building. We stayed at the executive guest room. The room was spacious but I feel they could add a little more furniture. Maybe a love sofa Shower room was huge and shower head was amazing! I love it. Restroom floor has heated capability and you can adjust the temperature to what you want. that was nice.

Yelp
The service is outstanding except in the breakfast room. The rooms are very large especially for Europe. The bedding, pillows, are top quality, but I would have preferred to have a sheet. The down comforter got very warm as your only option. Location is pretty great as you can walk to most everything. The Snug Bar seemed like an unappealing afterthought. The breakfast is terrible.

Yelp
4.5 stars. We're Marriott regulars but had not stayed in the autograph collection boutique hotels before. The location of this hotel, easily walkable to the train station, bus lines, rose street and so much more in the heart of downtown Edinburgh is fantastic, 5 star. We also absolutely loved the wall of windows in the room that look onto the huge rooftop garden and Edinburgh skyline. It would have been nice if the bed faced the view, but the room was nicely appointed and a good size for a hotel in a big city. The overall layout of the venue is meandering so that might mean you walk a good distance to get to your room. I think it adds to the character of putting these boutiques in interesting venues. The halls are fairly dark and they play dance music all the time. It was not loud or bothersome. I just found it an interesting design choice with the other entertainment artwork that lines the hallway. The open lounge area has this great, cozy round firepit....but I agree with others who said the setup with what was honor bar, what they were selling, when it was staffed, etc was kinda awkward. The breakfast buffet was plenty sufficient for us, and there were other options to order (not part of the free breakfast for members). The breakfast room is large with nice views. It was a good distance from our room, which was perfectly fine for us. Most of the staff was very helpful and they had good restaurant recommendations for us. One guy at check in was a bit cheeky, which I thought was funny in the situation...but somebody else might have felt differently. There is a small fee even if you are staying as part of the rewards program. Worth it, we thought. We will definitely consider other autograph collection properties when we are traveling as a couple (but probably not as a family).

Yelp
I am massively surprised that The Glasshouse has only been given 3 stars by previous reviewers. It could be that it depends on the context of your visit to the hotel as it looks like the previous reviewers were tourists visiting Edinburgh. I'm from Glasgow and my stay at this hotel was for an ex boyfriends birthday and thus it was more of a dirty weekend kind of thing. Well it was supposed to be but we ended up mortally drunk and I feel asleep in the bath and he got his foot stuck in the mini bar, but I digress. The only bad thing about this hotel was the lack of parking facilities and the service wasn't particularly great but then we didn't really require much servicing so it wasn't an issue, so on to the good stuff.... The outside of this hotel is stunning as it is an old church which has been converted into a glasshouse at the upper half. The roof top garden with wonderful views over Edinburgh is delightful even (or perhaps especially) on a rainy day. As you would expect from a 5 star hotel you get all those little luxuries which make your stay special such as uber fluffy bathrobes and slippers, fancy Highland Aromatics toiletries, massive beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, duck down duvets, mineral water on turn down, huge flat screen TVs with satellite TV channels and a CD player with a library of music to choose from. There are several different types of rooms you can stay in. The cheapest being a Deluxe Room and the most expensive being a Deluxe Suite. The extras included in the Deluxe Suite are a decanter of whiskey, a separate leather sitting area, Bulgari rather than Highland Aromatics toiletries and a private sauna and Jacuzzi. From the photos on the website all the rooms and suites looked gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and a great blend of modern and traditional so my ex and I went middle of the road and booked a Studio Suite. We booked a package through an offer on the website which got us our Studio Suite with champagne on arrival (this is where it all started to go wrong), a 3 course meal at the Forth Floor restaurant in Harvey Nichols followed by a midnight feast in our room of strawberries and cream and MORE champagne and an a la carte breakfast in the morning. This was desperately needed with our great big stonking hangovers! I had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and it was the highlight of my stay at the Glasshouse! Although there are definitely nicer 5 star hotels in Scotland I wouldn't say that the Glasshouse doesn't deserve its five stars. Certainly if you book one of the packages through the website and make an experience out of it then I would be surprised if you are disappointed. You just have to look at the number of awards this hotel has one to see that it is definitely a little bit special!

Yelp
There's no denying that this is an absolutely gorgeous building. Somehow, the modern additions of the huge glass windows on the top level (which, I presume, give it its name) don't take anything away from the charm and character of the old church building that forms the original shell of the building. My parents got a really good deal for a weekend stay here, when they came up to visit me once whilst I was at uni. They've never been fans of chain hotels, but wanted something that they knew was going to be good quality, and as annoying as it is they still rave about this place now. As you'd expect from a five star hotel, the service is impeccable from the moment you walk in the door until the minute you check out and the doorman opens the door of your cab for you. The décor was beautiful too, it was extremely tastefully done and done to a very high standard, although not in an ostentatious, in-your-face sort of way like a lot of other luxury city centre boutique hotels. In fact, the only thing I could criticise was the location. As well as being one of its best points, as it's so close to the city centre, it also means that you get all the boozehounds stumbling out of CC Blooms and Habana waking you up at 3am. Glasshouse, if you're reading this, get some triple glazing installed. Then you'd be perfect.

Yelp
I really wanted to give this place more than a 3 but I just can't bring myself to do it! Put it this way, I stayed here probably 5 years ago and had a great experience but unfortunately it didn't match up to it this time..plus seeing as it was Edinburgh graduation season it wan't a massively cheap option (but was a good deal compared to everywhere else being fully booked up or ridiculous prices) Here's some good features: * Loved the hospitality from Maria I think, the receptionist - very bubbly, fun and helpful. * Great location and easy to walk into old and new parts of town Some things that needed work: * Hotel seemed really tatty all around and the bedrooms very basic and tired. * Breakfast was chaotic and expensive (£18 - I only used it because I had meetings from 9am and went out the 2nd day) - they had run out of lots of things on buffet, very slow to serve and loads of people on other tables were complaining. * No real extras like newspapers to take from lobby * Really strange system to get in and out of the hotel, quite the maze up and down, lifts here and there. Not the worst place ever but I've stayed in much better hotels for the same price. Could do with a revamp and some TLC.

Yelp
We ended up here by accident. We booked a Marriott by airport that was too far away so got a great deal here. Breakfast that was included was amazing. Not sure what effect being a platinum member had on what I got. Hotel is beautiful we started stayed in new section which was beautiful. Only negative was the distance and complexity of getting to room from old section of hotel. Free coffee and room bar was very will stocked with goodies. No liquor but it was free

Yelp
Reasonably good hotel, but overall a bit disappointing. The hotel reception and lobby areas are all very nice, but the rooms are now a bit dated. Ours was freezing when we arrived, which is an absolute pet hate of mine. The guest shouldn't have to put the heating on! Sadly the biggest problem was the service. The staff are all very nice, the reception staff are very welcoming and conversational, but it took three attempts and 50 minutes to get an ironing board, and in the morning breakfast was a bit of a disaster. We were asked four times what we'd like to drink, and were brought two lots of toast. I think they're just very disorganised! Overall i'd like to like this place, but there were just too many mistakes.

Yelp
Sadly, I have to agree with the other three star ratings. I believe this hotel considers itself a five star, and that it is not. It is pretty much an average to somewhat upscale Marriott property. The layout is convoluted, and I also found the breakfast room to be "chaotic" as one other reviewer noted. The room was fine--very modern, clean, and nice amenities with the Nespresso machine and bathrobes. The biggest fail for me was the lack of helpfulness. When I arrived, I realized that I had only booked for one night instead of two. The staff did not go out of their way to help me find another booking--not even at another Marriott property, and even if I did find a room at another Marriott for the two nights, they would still charge me for the room there. In the states, when I have transferred from one Marriott property to another, they have waived the fee. The young man with the red hair and glassed at the concierge desk was the only staff member who had a five star attitude to his work. Otherwise, the location is good for restaurants and sightseeing, but I would not necessarily stay at this hotel again if I ever return to Edinburgh.

Yelp
This is an absolutely extraordinary, top-flight hotel. The property is gorgeous from top to bottom. The roof garden is just beautiful and is so quiet, despite being in the middle of the city. The common area with a fire is a wonderful touch. If my room wasn't so comfortable, I might have spent more time there. The bathroom was very well appointed, and the room itself lacked nothing. The staff were totally first rate and attentive. I love the artwork and design feel of the hotel. From art in the hallways to the rooftop garden, it is full of unique and interesting bits. In room coffee was a nice Nespresso machine, and my in-room iron worked fine. There was a nice little sound system I could connect my phone into. My view of the church across the street was great. If there is a negative, it's that you really can get lost in this hotel. Take a wrong turn and you'll end up backtracking. I simply could not ask for more.

Yelp
After a bajillion hour lay-over, you can not believe the second wind and thrill that went through me when we pulled up in front of the Glasshouse for check-in. Hello old gothic church turned modern hotel.... Our room was the Bowman room ( I believe it's the suites that are named after various Scotches) and it was a modern wonderland. There was a small carafe of Bowman Scotch for us to enjoy at our leisure (oh snap it tasted like a burnt stick!) perhaps on our stunning balcony?!?!?! Other perks I loved were the heated bathroom floor and wall panel that controlled just about every electrical thing in the room. The amenities in the bath room were "fill your suitcase with as many as possible" worthy. We had breakfast included in our rate and it was pretty damn delicious. It could get really BUSY down there and things can quickly take a turn for the worse- service wise. It was rather chilly so we did not get to enjoy the lovely out door garden area, but we did enjoy the indoor fire pit with the honesty bar....

Yelp
For the amount of money we paid for our suite (BIG BUCKS) , I have to say, I found the housekeeping, service, and overall condition of the hotel to be not on par with an establishment of this supposed caliber. First off, the hotel is gorgeous (although somewhat showing it's age). The suites are really spacious and well designed, with a modern flair and exceptionally comfy beds and roomy balconies. Everyone at the hotel was incredibly friendly and tried their best to be helpful and engaged. Now for the bad: 1) our shower flooded upon first use. This should have been sussed out by the housekeeper who (theoretically) cleaned it out after the last guest. This wasn't just a slow drain, but a major clog that immediately flooded the entire bathroom. Additionally, both sinks were running very slow, one so slow it might as well have been completely clogged. 2) There was a lovely, very welcoming little tray with scotch and a glass and water pitcher to enjoy a complimentary evening nip before bed. Sadly, there was a dirty glass (still with a wee bit of scotch in it) and a half-used water pitcher. Gross. I don't expect to find remnants of the previous guest in my room. 3) We were hot. I mean, HOT. The room air conditioner did not work. It was unusually warm outside for this time of year and our room was always warm. The thermostat simply didn't work. Instead, we relied on two fans which only worked part of the time. 4) We frequently came back to the room with a few dirty towels. They changed some, but not all. There was also hair in the bathtub so it was clearly not rinsed during normal daily housekeeping. Again, quite odd for a hotel of this caliber. 5) The check-in process was slow. There were only two employees in the lobby. The phone rang and rang and rang (with no one to pick up) while we were being checked in and that was beyond annoying and appeared oddly unprofessional. Not sure why they don't have a hotel operator. 6) I asked one of the hotel clerks (concierge) to suggest a nail salon. She was quite helpful and made and appointment for me. I followed her detailed instructions to get to the salon at the appointed time and it was not at the location she said it was. I reiterated the directions several times prior to heading out to my appointment: "just across the street and a short 5 minute walk." Well, a full mile down the road, down one side and up the other and not a nail salon in sight. Very disappointing, as I was looking forward to my appointment very much. Oh well, not a big deal, but more of an annoyance and I would have appreciated more attention to detail as far as helping me to get to my appointment. 7) rooms are left dusty and the only evidence that it's been cleaned is a few clean towels and the bed is turned down. This is a large space and there is no straightening done whatsoever. Ironing board was not put back into the closet...etc. It's the small details that separate your average hotel with the upper echelon. Again, for what we paid (nearly a thousand US dollars a night), there was appallingly little attention paid to details like this. I expect better fro the price of our room... Positives: *Love the honor bar in the 3rd floor lobby (which happened to be right outside our door!). Great selection and a lovely gathering area with a fire bowl to enjoy while sipping your favorite adult beverage. * Rooms are gorgeous. I mean, GORGEOUS. Very modern and spacious. There is a large, high def TV that sits in the center of a wood-slatted room divider. It swivels a full 180 degrees, so can be seen in the living room portion of the room (which also has a nice, leather sectional couch) or the big king sized bed. * Beds are fantastic. Very comfortable with very high quality linens. Super comfy and I slept like a baby! * Location is fantastic. If you are visiting Edinburgh for the festival (which we were), it's centrally located and an easy walking distance to all of the really cool entertainment venues like the Miracle Mile. Shopping is close as well, but I recommend you get out and visit some of the off the path streets and neighborhoods to get a more authentic flavor of the city and it's citizens. * Breakfast buffet is nice and just 13 pounds pp which is a good value for what you get. For an additional 5 pounds, you can add a cooked to order breakfast (like eggs Benedict). But the fresh salmon, fruit, meat and cheese platters, uber buttery croissants (I mean, best I have ever had) and strong Scottish coffee are more than enough for most. Nice buffet in a beautiful room with a view, Scottish newspapers and good service. A perfect way to start your day! * Gourmet chocolates. Wow, delivered to your door every single evening. A cornucopia of very fancy chocolates in a very fancy box, delivered nightly. These make great presents for your friends and family who were not as lucky as you to be in this fine city and mostly lovely hotel. Nice touch!

Yelp
Very clean and well maintained hotel. Great location for being close to it all. I would suggest sitting outside as much as possible. Its very relaxing after a long day of walking and trying whisky at the local pubs! Additionally, I appreciate the ability to not see any staff members unless you want to. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is stocked with all things you might need: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, cotton rounds, hair dryer and robes! Free wi-fi

Yelp
I can't begin to say enough nice things about this hotel. I was originally slated to stay at a hotel down the street and was persuaded by a local colleague to switch to this hotel based on the quality, view, and location. I'm thrilled I made the switch. First off, Ryan, the hotel manager, went to exceptional effort to ensure I was satisfied with my room and was so accommodating. The room itself was very comfortable and well arranged, including the sitting area, Nespresso machine, and opening to the garden with a view of Calton Hill from my third-floor room. The bed was very comfortable and had the all-important master switches for the lights right next to the bed. The bathroom was spacious and lovely complete with heated floor and a towel warmer as well as a large bathtub. On three evenings, I entertained colleagues at The Snug, which is the private hotel bar. The food, drinks and service were excellent. My guests enjoyed the central fireplace area and cozy atmosphere. The fantastic scotch collection earned fans as well! The true highlight of my visit was concierge Jonathan, who was unfailingly helpful to me and the numerous business visitors I had throughout my stay. All visitors had a brilliantly warm welcome and assistance planning our week in Edinburgh courtesy of the delightful Jonathan. The consensus of my colleagues was they wished they'd changed hotels with me to stay at this beautiful hotel with the attentive (but never overbearing) hospitality. The conversation when we were considering an activity was literally, "We should ask Jonathan!" and it came from people not even staying there. That's service! One person stayed, but you have eight new fans! I will definitely stay here in the future and look forward to doing so. I spend about 140 nights per year in hotels and the Glasshouse is probably the brightest spot of the last five years. The staff have refined the art of hospitality in a perfect location, while still offering unmatched privacy and tranquility. Bravo!

Yelp
During our stay we received poor service from an front desk agent J***e. She was non-committal about every question we had pertaining to COVID. We were traveling from the US and wanted help but she seemed not to care. We were told to leave our bags (our room wasn't ready as we arrived early) in an unsecure closest. We literally walked in there unattended with many other guests luggage sitting out. The guest room bathroom was dirty, specifically the presence of hair. The closet next to the bed had a blinking light inside of it, since the doors are glass it woke my wife up in the middle of the night several times during our stay, plus we reported it during our stay! Their attempt at fixing a simple light didn't work on the second attempt so, again in the middle of the night, I got in the closet and unplugged the lamp. All of this was reported the night before we left, along with my (very clear) expectations of service recovery. The following Monday, I got an email from the same J***e, it was a generic, scripted email with an offer of minimum points that was insulting. I replied to the email and three days later still had no response. Then I emailed again copying the GM and Operations Manager, and again today no reply. The service culture at this hotel needs a complete overhaul starting with management.

Yelp
Very, very underwhelming after reading a lot of positive reviews. We did get a great priced room compared to the rack rate and I feel they might have reflected that in the choice of room they give. Arriving at the hotel, check-in and service was excellent but we were a little dismayed to find that they'd put us in a disabled room, with low sinks/toilet and no bath, so upon complaint they must have moved us to the poorest room in the hotel, the one that leads directly onto their lounge/honour bar area which felt a little strange coming and going. The room isn't a 5 star room. Furniture is dated. Bathroom fixtures average (impossible to close the shower cubicle door from the inside), tiny flatscreen on the wall with the wiring all hanging loose underneath. The design of the room is also bad, with the head of the bed facing the windows, so you face a box of three walls when you sleep (and the loose wiring). The wardrobe and storage is so tiny that our weekend clothes could barely fit. All in all, the room is dated and looks more 3 than 5 star. Both nights up until about 12:30 had a intermittent loud rumbling noice (loud enough to shake the glasses on the table) which is unexplained despite asking two members of staff. We selected that we wanted still water and not sparkling at turndown when we checked in and the first night I had to ask for it, and the second it just was never delivered. It's nice to see that some people were given complimentary whiskies and pies ... we got an apple. On the second night upon returning at 11pm to the hotel I asked for some firm pillows to be delivered to the room and was met by a look of almost derision. Amazing that a 3-star Holiday Inn can put a selection of pillows in the room but a request at a 5-star seems so complicated. After 30 mins, I called again and asked where they were and was told they only had one person working and he was doing room service but he knew about it. 30 mins later (one hr after the request and at midnight) the knock came on the door with new pillows. Unbelievably bad service. I'd wrongly assumed that check out was 12 (it's 11) and went for a walk - when I returned my wife informed me that front desk had been on the phone to see when we were checking out and allowed us an extra 30 mins but after that time we'd start to get charged an hourly rate !?!. The one poor soul working alone on the reception desk at the busiest time 11-12 couldn't explain why there was no other staff, although a queue to check out, check in and leave bags. With all the talk of people getting upgrades, I think we must have been downgraded for booking through a website and not direct, as I can't believe this hotel would rate so highly for so many. With the wealth of hotels in Edinburgh which we visit every 2-3 months, this one is at the bottom of the list for a re-visit. Not recommended.

Yelp
Wonderful staff, very comfortable room, and an easy location. Just five minutes walk from Waverley Station and the North Bridge (as well as Hertz Rent-a-car) the Glass House is a lovely place to stay whilst in Edingburgh. All things being equal, the exemplary staff sets this hotel about most, starting with William, the warm and cherubic doorman to the smiling maids, who wrote a pleasant thank you upon receiving a tip to clean the room. Small details make a difference when I travel, and the Glass House pays attention to even the smallest of them. I hope you enjoy your stay too!

Yelp
The glasshouse is a fairly nice, centrally located hotel in Edinburgh. Overall, I'd say the glasshouse is definitely decent, however perhaps not entirely worthy of the five star status they claim on their website. The outside of the hotel is stunning as it is a mixture of old (I believe the original facade belonged to a church) and new (the glass part, hence glasshouse). The inside is nice as well, although I personally felt that some of the finishings in the hotel looked cheap. The rooms themselves were very nice, especially the bathrooms. The service at the hotel was ok. Everyone was very friendly, however when I asked for extra bedding most of it arrived soaking wet (it was left in our room when we were out) so I'm not sure what that was about. The hotel is also attached to a complex with restaurants, bars and a club. The noise didn't bother me, but one of the guys I was staying with said he could hear the music from the club and it kept him up. The hotel has a roof top garden, which is a very nice touch. There is also an honesty bar (there is no bartender, you just take what you want and leave your name and room number) as well as a lounge with food available. We had a few appetizers (calamari, mushrooms and chorizo) which in my opinion weren't that great. Overall, having limited experience with European hotels I am not sure what rating to give. I think I would recommend the glasshouse if you can get a decent rate, but it seems like there might be nicer hotels (if you are willing to pay more) or better deals in Edinburgh.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for a romantic evening (our wedding weekend, actually) and had one of the most luxurious experiences of our lives. While this might not be saying much for two young, humble professionals, the hotel is splendid. The crowning jewel of Glasshouse Hotel is the rooftop gardens, though we were not able to enjoy them during our stay due to inevitable Edinburgh rain. It has an open, multistory entry but our floor was dim and cozy. The lounge, again, is a modern / cozy balance with open spaces and plush furniture - very chic and very comfortable. Upon arrival we hit the jackpot and received a complimentary upgrade to a suite - whether this was spurred by the wedding dress or is standard practice when they have the availability, I'm not sure, but we sure appreciated the upgrade! Our suite faced the north of Edinburgh, over the Georgian sandstone buildings of New Town and had a spacious terrace along the entire north-facing wall. Though a touch drippy, it was still a wonderful spot to wrap up and gaze over all the shoppers and merry-makers. A luxury suite in every sense of the word, we enjoyed all the amenities one would expect from a high-end boutique hotel in Scotland's capital, but a few particulars I especially enjoyed were a bathtub nearly a foot longer than me, a rotating television for easy enjoyment from the leather sofa or from the sprawling king-sized (at least) bed, and two complimentary drams of fine, single malt whisky. Yum! Breakfast, served in a long, modern-cozy dining room with a south-facing glass wall, could not have been nicer. After several nights of heavy meals, we opted for the Continental spread, which frankly could not have been less filling than a cooked full-Scottish. Though a bit pricey for two young professionals on a budget, we would most certainly return for a special occasion to bask in the chic, cozy luxury of Glasshouse, if for the views alone!

Yelp
This was my second time staying at Glasshouse. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff are lovely and helpful and the lounge area with the fire is perfect for decompressing. I would like to say a special note about Tom Gibson, the General Manager, who made sure my visit with my husband was extra special! He overheard I was having surgery back in the states the day after I landed and ensured I had the best time while in town. My husband's job is based in Edinburgh and he (or we) will be visiting a few times a year. There is no question that we will be loyal Glasshouse patrons. Thank you all for exceptional service. And thank you Tom Gibson for making our Christmas delightful.

Yelp
Not sure how this location is part of the Autograph Collection. Stained carpets in every hallway; I was placed in a handicapped room; outlets wouldn't accommodate a power converter; no gym on property; beautiful gym next door but for a 10 pound fee per person per day. Tons of construction going on in front of the hotel so the car drops you off down the hill and you lug your bags up it-what a friendly arrival! Area of town is ok but not that close to the royal mile. Wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
fantastic hotel, great service, loved the rooms and the view. the bar and restaurants likewise. the view from the garden and our balcony also fantastic.

Yelp
The Glasshouse hotel is simply stunning, an old church converted into a glasshouse a few floors up. I have to say having visited the rooftop gardens, you could have been mistaken for thinking you were somewhere much more exotic. I haven'ty stayed at the hotel myself but my Aunt visiting from America stayed for 2 nights visiting family and she said that it definitely lived up to it's five star status. Perhaps she got caught up in the experience of it all and the magic of the city, but she absolutely loved it. Beautiful building, although you may walk by it mistaking it for a church at first! Fantastic location too!

Yelp
Great service. Free shoe shine, excellent location heated floor in bathroom, everything you need is here.

Yelp
Not someplace I'd necessarily return to. My first trip to Edinburgh and was excited about my stay here. The architecture of the building is beautiful, but the inside is no where near as I'd expect it to be. Building layout: Quite confusing, but easy enough once figured out. Very dark overall within the halls, but nice touch of Sonos throughout for music. As for the bedroom, lovely view of the courtyard with door that allows you to walk out onto the rooftop garden. Instead of regular windows to open for a breeze, the door angles so that the breeze will come in up top without worry for someone inadvertently walking in your room. Room: Our bed wasn't very comfortable. Even worse, the towels were rough (not soft and fluffy as would be expected), worse yet was that the towels were tattered and frayed. The bedsheets were just as bad. There were holes not only in the bedsheets but also the pillow cases. What an embarrassment. Continental breakfast: Nice selection of meats, cheeses, bread, yogurt & fruit. Grossed out that there was a fly stuck in the brie, which when I pointed it to one of the service ladies, she simply looked at it and walked away. It was later removed. They didn't bother removing the entire platter to the kitchen. Just the one slice of cheese. Staff: Upon arrival & check in, the evening staff was rude and aloof. You're in the hospitality industry. Have some basic manners. Morning/daytime staff was at least more pleasant, thankfully. Perhaps I had too high of expectations (based on reviews, I presumed service and quality akin to the Ritz). This place fell way below that mark. In fact, it was much much lower than than expected. Quite disappointed. Addendum: Issue regarding bedding was discussed and am glad to say that it was quickly and appropriately rectified, thus the from 2 to 3 stars.

Yelp
Luxury accommodation in Edinburgh city centre. Beautiful rooms, wonderful honesty bar, exceptional service. This was an amazing start to my honeymoon, they went the extra mile to make our stay extra special and very romantic. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Yelp
I can honestly say that this hotel has a definate 'WOW factor' about it and will not disappoint you. When booking a city hotel i automatically assume smaller rooms than you might like but that certainly isnt the case. The room had ample space for guests and luggage and not leave you feeling like you were tripping over each other which is a good start. The staff i spoke with were generally friendly and came accross that they were happy to be there and happy to help should they be needed. I would definately suggest picking their brains on suggested palces to go out to eat as the two i received were excellent (The Witchery, and the other name escapes me!)

Yelp
If you find yourself in Edinburgh, figure out how to stay here. Great location, fun pubs next door and the nicest staff in a city full of really nice people.
