The Goat Herder - István utca

Such a wonderful place to stop in for coffee, food, and a warm welcome from the team here. The workers have never failed to make me feel at home each time I stop by. Probably my favorite coffee in Budapest and hands down some of the best avocado toast I have ever had. But most of all, I cannot recommend this place enough because of the people behind the counter that not only provide great service but treat you as if you were already friends.

(Updated review from 2 to 3 stars because of the reply from owner) Nice breakfast place, decent food, great avocado toast, average croissant, great coffee. DISAPPOINTING that NOBODY speaks Hungarian and they don’t even seem to care that they can’t serve my elderly mother. On this note, i specifically asked if anyone speaks Hungarian and the lady’s response was no one. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The coffee was nice, we took mocha and flat white The portion of granola is very small, but I enjoyed the granola with plain yoghurt and the toast was tasty. The orange juice is also fresh The staff was very arrogant and rude, killed the vibe to be honest The music played loud and it was something like rock, which does not help Otherwise could have been a really nice place not far from the Budapest-Keleti

It is an excellent way to begin one's day. Everything is meticulously prepared and presented. I was attempting to persuade myself not to make any further purchases. The coffee, a light roast from Ethiopia, was exceptional, and their oat milk was outstanding. Card payments are accepted. Additionally, English is widely spoken here, and the service is prompt.

Budapest has become one of our favorite cities to visit in the world because of a long list of things we love about it - but mostly because of the incredible coffee and foodie scene! We LOVE the Goat Herder for its wonderful cozy yet bustling vibe, you’ll always be welcomed with a smile (from both Hungarian and international staff) and it goes without saying the coffee is top notch! This coming from a Cape Town coffee snob 😇 We’ve had many a healthy breakfast or quick snack here before heading off on a day of site seeing. Also a great place to sit and sip on a coffee and people watch as it’s in a lovely part of town!

Nice food quality, tasteful coffee and a nice overall atmosphere, besides the loud rock music and uncomfortable chairs/ sitting area. The baristas were arrogant and seemed to be bothered by our presence, it must have been due to the heat (I guess)… 😅

The croissants and coffee were absolutely delicious. The servers Ansam, Panni, and Amala were so helpful and kind from start to finish. However, the only downfall was that it was a little too hot inside during summer even when they turned on the fans to help us cool down.

I would recommend this place if you’re looking for a good cup of coffee in the area. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the shop was relatively full. I ordered a batch brew and as I was paying they were handing me the coffee. Incredibly fast service and the coffee I had was a Colombian from Awaken roasters. The atmosphere was calm and the music selection was lovely. (A little loud for my taste but I could still chat.)
