Gobbler Theater – Johnson Creek, Wisconsin - Gastro Obscura

"In order to serve more turkey to the good people of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, Clarence Hartwig of Hartwig Turkey Farms opened a supper and dance club in 1969 with a rather unusual theme. It was called the Gobbler. It featured a turkey-centric dinner menu and allowed patrons to dance in the “Roost,” a circular dance floor suspended from the ceiling over a rotating bar. While it’s lost the turkey theme, the Gobbler is, to this day, a beacon of nightlife in Johnson Creek, and, yes, the original bar is still spinning. Hartwig hired Estonian-born architect Helmut Ajango, a master of prairie architecture, to design the building. As per Hartwig’s request, the rounded, low-laying building’s windows are designed to look like eyes of a turkey. For the day’s youth, this futuristic, kitsch superstructure was a town fixture. “All we talked about was going to the Gobbler when we turned 18,” Connie Brunk told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2017. When supper clubs lost their allure in the early ’90s, however, the Gobbler shuttered exactly as it had looked in 1969, with pink and lavender accents across its shag carpet walls and psychedelic chrome-foil wallpaper. The building sat vacant for over 20 years. When out shopping with his wife in 2004, Daniel Manesis noticed the Gobbler’s for-sale sign. He bought the building, and after a $2.7-million renovation, reopened it as the Gobbler Theater. The rotating bar, retaining its original pink and lavender chairs, makes a full rotation every 80 minutes. The medium-sized theater in the round now features primarily country rock acts, attracting Johnson Creek residents of all ages, once more, to a night out at the Gobbler. If you’re at the bar and your back is to the stage, be patient. You’ll have a better view shortly. None" - starryeyes42, lukefater, ChazWick

First Look: The Turk’s Inn in Bushwick

"An eccentric, outlier example of the supper‑club family that looks deliberately theatrical — famously likened to a purple spaceship landed by intergalactic hippies — illustrating how some rural clubs evolved into bold, idiosyncratic landmarks rather than straightforward, woodsy retreats." - Robert Simonson

Great show and venue. Wish they had hard liquor.

Great venue. Seating and sound system were perfect. First timer. Went to see Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes ......the best concert I’ve ever been to. Stories about music, history and family between songs. 6 piece band and two backup singers that blew the roof off the place. Tight and talented. Two hour show by a musical legend. I hope they bring back some of the old groups! I’d show up at every concert. Please more shows like this!

The Gobbled is an absolutely amazing venue. It is truly a treasure from the 60`s that has been kept in great shape and has great entertainment all the time. We had a "Sold Out" Show there and really enjoyed everything about it. The owners are great people who are involved with dig rescue, which speaks volumes to me. The entire staff were just as good as it gets , a real world class operation from the front door on ! I'd recommend "everyone" experience the Gobbled Theatre , without a doubt !!!

This place is gold! It’s been wholly resurrected from the pink and purple fur days into a great music venue. The have room to grow still, and I see a real future for this out-of-the-way spot in Johnson Creek. Easy freeway access, so if you see a show listed there you like, I recommend getting tickets ASAP!

The seats farthest from the aisle in row M and N (M305, 306, 307, N305, 306) have an exterior light pointing at them through the window. If you wear glasses, this will interfer with your viewing experience. I was told that an electrician will be called when there's enough issues for then to fix, and there's nothing they can do about it even rotating it slightly is not possible. Also, the bar only serves beer, wine, soda, and water. Most seats seemed to have a decent view of the stage.

Google
It was a great concert! My personal preference, I would like to hear more of their voices and less of the instruments. Instruments could be less loud.

The bar was below my knees, beer selection pretty week, sound quality was below par The venue was awesome nice job refinishing it. That's why it got 3 instead of 2

Yelp
This place is a exactly what Johnson Creek needed! Kudos to the owners for putting in the time, effort, and money to turn this place into a high level performance venue! They did not skimp on any details. Top notch sound system, beautifully decorated, clean, and just the right size! I can't wait to see this place take off.

Yelp
Bought tickets thru EventBrite for Teddy Robb/Jerrod Niemann show a few weeks back for my wife who is a huge Teddy fan. Night prior to show Teddy cancel and they replace with another act. Purchased thru PayPal and EventBrite was great to deal with however, they had to call the venue. Venue decline refund. Said Opening Acts don't apply. Called the venue myself and got a gentleman who said they don;t do refunds for "openers". Told me he wasn't manager and he would have them call me. Never received any calls. Did a dispute with Paypal and they didn't have my back either. Lesson learned. This venue is off my list for sure. The show was sold out and they could have easily sold these in my opinion however, decided to lead with No Refunds! Heads up people.
