The 18 Best Hotels in Athens, Greece

"You could walk past this Twenties residence on a pedestrian street in upmarket Kolonaki and never know it was the city’s most soulful guesthouse. Step inside and it’s like wandering into the bohemian home of an art collector: there’s a softly lit salon with a Strauss piano, antiques upholstered in vintage fabrics, and a library of wonderful books you want to read. The two ethereal ground-floor suites have verandas shaded by a loquat tree. Up the marble staircase are four more enormous suites with velvet divans, floating beds, intriguing artworks, and sultry bathrooms with rough-hewn marble sinks (one even has a swing). Local chocolatiers, perfumeries, and coffee shops created delicious treats and toiletries in every room. The greatest surprise is the roof garden: an urban jungle of plants, day beds, and outdoor showers. Wonderfully idiosyncratic, this is a rare treasure that feels genuinely lived in. Golden Age has to be one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at, and—hands-down—is the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Athens (having stayed at many hotels in Athens over the years). The hotel is recently renovated, has beautiful balconies (though the balcony doors/windows do a good job insulating noise from the busy street outside), has rooms with a great layout and ample storage, has comfortable beds, and has a great breakfast buffet that stays open late and boasts a large selection of cereal, pastries, eggs, and bacon. My hotel room was impeccably clean; there was not one trace of dust in the room. Furthermore, the front desk staff, waitstaff at the breakfast buffet, and the room cleaning staff were all very kind and attentive. I had asked for several things from the front desk—like extra hangers and an iron—and such items were delivered to my door within minutes. I’ve never had items delivered to my room so quickly; usually, I’ve had to wait several hours. Golden Age is truly one-of-a-kind, and I look forward to staying here again in the future!

I stayed here for four nights during a recent academic conference and the hotel was one of the discounted lodging options. The location is good, just a few minutes walking distance from the Megaro Moussikis metro station, which will bring you to the center quickly. The room was ok but slightly on the small side. Instead of a large double bed, it had two single beds put together. The AC worked well and kept the room cool, which was important given the very hot temperatures outside. Also the shower worked well and had solid water pressure. I wasn’t a big fan of the breakfast though. Unfortunately, the range of choices was limited and the savory options could have been better and more varied (e.g., the bacon was soggy, the scrambled egg was too dry). My highlight were the churros, which were delicious, but they only had them on one morning. The check-in worked smoothly and the staff is friendly and accommodating.

I stayed there for a week at the end of December for a business trip. The hotel itself is clean and nice, the staff is friendly. BUT: I unfortunately left my jewelry in my room when I left. On the day of my departure, I wrote an email to reception and asked them to send me the jewelry (I live in Germany). The reception staff told me that I should take care of a shipping label. That was the first challenge. I made the counter-proposal that they should prepare the package with a label and send me an invoice for the shipping costs. After all, the letter carrier comes and goes there every day and you can hand over the parcel directly. This suggestion was not taken up. So I tried to buy a label in a roundabout way and sent it to reception. I didn't hear anything for weeks! When I asked if my parcel had been sent, I was told “No, no one was here to pick it up. Please take care of it.” I tried to contact DHL in Greece, unfortunately without success. The contact in Germany was similar. Again I wrote to reception that I was dependent on their help here and asked if they would be so kind as to contact DHL in GR or if they could drop the parcel off at a DHL store. I got the answer “give me a week, I'll take care of it” Again, over 2 weeks passed without me getting any feedback or anything happening. In the meantime, a colleague of mine was staying at the hotel and was kind enough to take the jewelry for me. So I informed reception that my colleague would take the parcel for me and that it didn't need to be sent. I received no response from reception. Nor was I informed that my parcel had been collected by my colleague. I had received the information purely from my colleague. It has now been over 3 months. I have my jewelry back - thanks to my colleague. This process, service and communication is absolutely atrocious and outrageous! Thank you for nothing!

I went by to visit a friend. The first thing I noticed was how clean and bright everything looked. I was very pleased with the staff. I spoke with a lady by the name of Jessica Paxton. She was great, very helpful and informative. I think you're doing a great job

Hotel is clean and spacious. It’s away from the main hustle and bustle which can be good too as it can get too crowded and noisy. Staff are friendly and very accommodating to allow us early check-in.

Very comfortable and warm welcome from the staff. Close to the city center but you will need to take a taxi

Its location is its best part. If you take the 2 bedroom, you would find it quite small and cramped, more like a business hotel. Their suites are great, much roomier and with a great view. We stayed there for 1 night, took a suite and 2 bedroom. Coffee was great, since they had provided a brewing machine in the suite. They only provided basic toiletries, breakfast was just average. I also didn’t found the breakfast area staff quite unfriendly. Overall, just good for 1 night.

Exceptional service throughout. Room was spacious, super clean, very nice relaxing shower. Coffee machine available in room with fridge small veranda. Bed was very comfortable and cozy. Breakfast was also exceptional, featured Greek breakfast as well as international fare. Very complete meal. Even restaurant was amazing. The best was its central location close Syntagma square, National garden, museums etc. Buses and taxis are very accessible. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel.
