On the Grid : The Golden Pig Food and Wine School

"The Golden Pig feels like a secret. Nestled on the outskirts of Newstead, the cooking school opens during the week for hungry locals seeking a slice of homemade Persian cake, or a sun-dappled spot for coffee. The menu might be short, but with former Rockpool head chef Katrina Ryan at the helm, every bite is worth high praise. Try the Reuben. No regrets." - Bigfish

My friends and I went there for $99 banquet dinner. Entrée dishes was interesting and very tasty! I love them all! Fries chicken was ok, for me it’s normal. Main dishes was good. The best experience part was dessert!!! So delicious!!! Must try!!!

This place has been recommended to me a few times over the years, so I finally made it there with a girlfriend for lunch. Service is a bit weird, not on the warm side. We had two entry=2 very small bite, betal leaf is good, if you’ve been to Thailand, it’s then a standard one in most of the good Thai restaurants. Scallops is simple, and that’s $20 for 2. We then had stir fry mushroom and veggie curry, one bottle of sparkling water, 2 rice. Total of $140 for 2 I would still give 5 star for the food, even though there’s nothing exciting. The missing star is for the venue. With the kitchen in the mid of the restaurant, I left with my entire silk outfit and hair smells like a Chinese kitchen. The chair and table is quite basic too. So the experience is a mixture of up market price, fusion not so creative dishes, street food smelly setup, and indifferent service.

I can't rave enough about The Golden Pig. Alan and his team are amazing and host a wonderful space. I hosted a wine event with 30+ people for a wine and cooking class. From start to finish, the entire group enjoyed themselves beyond measure. This is a true gem in Brisbane that is a must for groups to try. The chefs are overlooking and ensuring you are doing things the right way, as well as giving you some wonderful tips to take home. If you're looking for an unique experience, amazing food, and atmosphere, look no further than The Golden Pig.

We met up with friends and spent the time preparing a gloriously delicious Lebanese lunch under the guidance of chef Katrina. Our ingredients and utensils were all set out and instructions were clear and achievable. Highly recommend attending one of the cooking classes.

A Hidden Gem That’s Pure Culinary Magic! When I first heard about a restaurant tucked away in the back streets behind Bunnings, I thought, There’s no way this could be anything special—surely it’s just some greasy spoon. Oh, how wrong I was! My husband, Hugh, and I had been talking about going for months, and when we finally did, I walked out with sore cheeks from smiling so much—it was that good. Every dish that arrived at our table was not only beautifully presented, but tasted even better than it looked—heaven on a plate. We indulged in several cocktails, each one was so good! The service was impeccable—we had the banquet, and not once did we feel rushed. The staff took the time to explain each dish and were so genuinely friendly and welcoming. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, and the interior has an industrial feel (it is a cooking school too), but don’t let any of that deter you. This place is all about the food, the drinks, and the experience—and it delivers on every level! We’re already heading back this week with friends, and I cannot wait. If you’re looking for an outstanding dining experience, The Golden Pig is an absolute must-visit!

Golden Pig, Newstead – A Hidden Gem with Big Flavour Tucked away in Newstead, Golden Pig is one of Brisbane’s best—a warm, welcoming spot where traditional Chinese and Southeast Asian flavours meet modern flair. The food? Exceptional. We did the degustation menu, which was just perfect. Every dish was beautifully balanced and bursting with flavour. Even though we were full by the end—contented, really—you couldn’t help but want just one more bite. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished. Whether it’s a kid-friendly family lunch or a team dinner like ours, the space feels generous and unpretentious. Tables are well spaced, so you can enjoy real conversation without feeling crowded. And the service? Friendly, thoughtful, and never intrusive. That, paired with the food, makes Golden Pig more than just a restaurant—it’s a genuinely memorable experience. Thanks to the team at The Golden Pig you made a work team night out very enjoyable!

The Skyline Envision team celebrated our 2024 Christmas Party at the Golden Pig doing a Part Hands on, Part Party Cooking Class . Under the guidance of Chef Katrina Ryan, we created a delicious 3-course meal together. It was a fantastic experience to connect as a team, share some laughs, and enjoy the amazing dishes we prepared. If you're looking for a unique and memorable way to bring your team together, we can’t recommend The Golden Pig's cooking classes enough for your next company event. A huge thank you to Katrina and her team for making it such a special afternoon!

A wonderful restaurant tucked away in the inner city. Service was outstanding with great recommendations and genuine interactions. Street parking is available. The atmosphere was also really good with warehouse vibes. The menu offers an interesting variety of Asian fusion dishes and flavours and seasonings. I was impressed with the portion sizes, well-balanced flavours and fresh ingredients. They offer really good dietary options for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and more.
