"After spending the afternoon by the water, you can stop into the vintage Fun-O-Rama arcade for a quick game of Skee-Ball, and according to Mendoza, 'you need to make a visit to The Goldenrod for saltwater taffy. We always stop at the windows for a bit to watch them make it.'" - Travel + Leisure Editors

I’ve been visiting here since the 1970’s. First with my parents, then my husband and small kids and now with my adult children and their spouses. I love the older style restaurant, the amazing taffy choices and that you can watch it being made and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. We had good meals, great fresh seafood and topped it off with a large box of assorted taffy flavors that we then enjoyed down by the beach. This place is an iconic historic landmark restaurant to visit for sure. They’ve been around for over 125 years!

Loved the atmosphere and the candy making in progress. Some of the best tomatoe soup you'll ever have. Very busy location but the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Great place on Short Sands Beach. Sit down restaurant with all kinds of candy, fudge, and taffy in front. You can even watch taffy (they are famous for it!) being made in the storefront windows! Begun in 1896, I go there every time I'm in the area. Wintertime they are closed, but have a warehouse you can order from. Staff very friendly - and quick. Busy!!

No-frills New England home cooking that reminds me of growing up in northern NH in a French-American household. Features periodic specials like codfish cakes (pictured), doughy and delicious chicken bacon ranch flatbread, and more. If you want a “normal” sandwich or burger with chips, this is the place to get it! You can also order from the full ice cream fountain menu in the restaurant. The Kraft mac and cheese is a side order that’s perfect for kids, breakfast is served all day, and the dining area is large and great for families (no tablecloths for kids to pull on, etc.).

The Goldenrod has been around for over 125 years! As long as I can remember, they have served the same type of food... classic casual fare. What's not to love about a great club sandwich with crispy salty chips? I always complement my meal with a fresh lime rickey...so refreshing! For dessert, you must try the penuche fudge sauce with your ice cream! You will thank me later 😊 I love sitting at the old soda fountain counter. But there is plenty of table seating in the dining room. While you're there, it's a must to stop at the candy counter and get their homemade salt water taffy. You can actually watch the process of how they're made through the windows from the sidewalk. It's lots of fun for the family or even kids at heart ❤️

Old time Maine and the seashore since 1896! This is a wonderful modern place with an old "down east" beach atmosphere. Our server, Sam, was excellent! The food was delicious, especially the Reuben. They also have a large candy count where you can see taffy being made the old fashioned way. And there is a special corner just for the kids. A really well managed place.

Cute place, been going for 45 years. The ingredients in the “home made” candy is absolute garbage. Toxic. Artificial flavors & Ingredients, seed oils, and palm oil. Gross. This could be so wonderful with clean ingredients.

Best place in York for a quick breakfast or lunch. We arrived right about noon, and while it was pretty busy, we were still seated right away & our food didn’t take more than 10 minutes. It was freshly made & delicious. The staff were kind, quick and efficient. After eating I grabbed some sweets from their candy counter. Goldenrod Kisses (saltwater taffy) live up to their hype- the best taffy I’ve ever had. Their candy fruit slices are great too. The staff at the candy counter were also kind, quick & efficient- there was never waiting around for anything, they worked quickly and did well.
