11 Best Local Food Spots in Toronto | Condé Nast Traveler

"Although it's only been open since 2014, this Queen West restaurant has already earned a fiercely loyal following for its refined, yet approachable, takes on Italian classics. The entryway is set up like a pantry, of sorts, with rows of big bottles of olive oil (available for purchase) lining the shelves. The dining room is no less decorated, with wall clocks, antique books, and vintage photos. The menu features a perfect antipasto plate, an al dente bucatini all'amatriciana, charred thin-crust pizzas from the wood-fire oven, and a grilled octopus for two. In a part of the West End that can feel so artificial, The Good Son manages to stay true to its Italian roots while also appealing to Toronto's young foodies." - Todd Plummer

Had the pizza and meatballs from The Good Son and wow — they do not mess around. The pizza was perfectly blistered, with that irresistible wood-fired crust that walks the line between chewy and crispy. Toppings were fresh, balanced, and full of flavor (you can taste the quality). And the meatballs? Juicy, rich, and swimming in a sauce I would happily drink with a straw

We recently dined at The Good Son and were thoroughly impressed! The ambiance, paired with great music and thoughtful decor, sets the stage for a fantastic dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious! Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. The bulgogi short ribs was perfectly cooked, and the pasta was rich and creamy. You can truly taste the quality of the ingredients and the chef's passion in every bite. Service was top-notch as well—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Our server Francois made excellent recommendations and ensured everything was perfect throughout the meal. Overall, The Good Son is a true gem. If you're looking for great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional service, I highly recommend giving it a try. 5/5 stars!

Google
Absolutely fantastic dining experience! The food was a perfect blend of comfort and innovation, flavorful, beautifully presented, and served in a timely manner. The cocktails were also excellent, well crafted and full of flavor. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for both casual and special occasions. Our server Francois was amazing, friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He, along with the rest of the staff, made sure our water glasses were always full and that we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Huge compliments to the chefs for creating such a memorable and delicious meal. Great value for money. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!

Google
Inviting atmosphere, friendly staff, and standout wood-fired pizzas and burgers. Many diners highlight the cozy, interesting decor and the service is attentive and welcoming. The atmosphere is the highlight here. There could be a bigger menu option in my opinion. But regardless the options are amazing and tasteful. I recommended for its food quality, relaxed vibe, and as a great option for both casual meals and special occasions.

Google
Great atmosphere. The non-alcoholic drinks were refreshing and well-made. We ordered the Steak Frites and the Bulgogi short rib. The steak was juicy, and the mildly flavored sauce was a nice match. The fries that came with it were crispy—some of the best I’ve ever had. I was a little disappointed with the Bulgogi short rib. First of all, it was actually Galbi, not Bulgogi. Maybe it was named that way because Galbi and Bulgogi often use similar sauces, or because the name included "short rib(rib is what galbi means)." But no Korean would consider this dish to be Bulgogi. I love both Galbi and Bulgogi, but the menu name felt misleading. The kimchi fried rice it came with was overly sweet, and the Galbi was even sweeter—almost dessert-like. It was still tasty and we enjoyed it, but it could have been much better if it weren’t so sweet. Another thing I felt was slightly lacking was the spacing between tables. It seemed like they had tried to fit in as many tables as possible. The tables were too close together, and there wasn’t enough room to pass by when servers were attending to guests. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our time and the food, and we’d definitely like to visit again.

Google
The Good Son has been on my list for a loooong time, so it took a friend's birthday to finally try it out, and I wasn't disappointed. The vibe was cool, and I really enjoyed the food. Menu a tad smaller than most but everything was prepared really nicely. My steak tartare starter and salmon main pictured. I don't like couscous but this version changed my opinion and was a star of the show. A big shout-out to our host, Herbert ("Huby"), who had a great sense of humour, and never kept us waiting on a packed night. Definitely going back!

Google
Enjoyed my dining experience here with my friend. We each got a cocktail recommended by the waiter and it was wonderful- strawberry one was delicious. Pizza is made fresh with super thin crusts, super soft warm and flavourful. Only negative comment is that most of the crusts were burnt. The fries make a great sharable item on the table. We didn’t reserve any seating and it was super packed on Saturday evenings, so I highly recommend reserving especially if you have more people or want a better seat. The interior is so pretty will def be visiting again!

Google
I went there with my friend last week. The place was quiet. Very nice ambiance restaurant. The waiter was friendly. He forgot our second of drinks. But he was smart about it as he didn’t charge it. The food was good overall. I ordered the burger, which was good but the fries seemed like they were fried 3 times. Why would you do that when you are charging 26 dollars for a classic burger. My friend liked his pizza. But we ordered also the ceviche appetizer. The presentation was good, but it took a microscope to detect the 3 fish pieces - we are talking maybe 30 grams of fish (for a 22 dollars plate). I loved the bar area!

Yelp
On our monthly ritual of discovering a new place for brunch while our pooch is in for his grooming, came across The Good Son. The restaurant is done quite eclectically, great decor, comfy chairs and inviting. Staff is friendly and welcoming with great suggestions from the menu. We started with a cocktail - Dangerous Love , made very well, with a kick and Ketel one vodka along with Patatas Bravas . For our mains- Roasted peaches and greens salad along with Muana Loa pizza which is their version of the Hawaiian , delicious with great topping and flavourful !

Yelp
Vibe | Brussels sprouts | salmon Vibe - This place has a really nice vibe for a date or family get-together. There are lots of different kinds of seating - tables, couches, and more. Even though it was pretty crowded when we went on a Friday night, we were still able to have a good conversation because the noise level was surprisingly low. Brussels sprouts - This appetizer is perfect for sharing between 2 to 4 people. It has a crispy texture, bursting with flavor, and is not greasy at all. I highly recommend it! Salmon - I thoroughly enjoyed the 8-ounce salmon fillet served with a side of fresh vegetables. The dish was absolutely delicious and perfectly satisfying. It was a great choice for me as I was hungry but not starving. I would definitely order it again. Pro tip: Make a reservation if you are going Thursday through Saturday night. If you are on a date or want more privacy, ask for a table far away from the front door.

Yelp
Gord and I had supper last evening at The Good Son. Gord had Steak Tartare (Grilled Sourdough, Grainy Dijon, Chives, Pickled Shallots, Confit Garlic Aioli). He said it was good. I had a Carnivora pizza (prosciutto cotto, spicy soppressata, house made sausage and San Marzano tomatoes). I like their pizza but find they are usually too burnt on the bottom.

Yelp
used to be a fav but the service has gone down way down hill. Slow, a lot of mistakes were made and no items were comped or discounted despite being made wrong resulting in us having to wait even longer when the service had already been slow and honestly non existent. Not even a proper apology. Won't be returning unfortunately

Yelp
First time at The Good Son! The place had a nice atmosphere and charming decor. As for the food, we went for brunch and ordered the Eggs Royale and the Taiwanese Fried Chicken on Toast. The dishes were delicious but nothing too special. Considering the expensive price tag, the portion size was also smaller than I expected. However, I heard The Good Son is known for their pizza, so that is definitely something I'd still love to try! And though the food took a little while to come out, the service was great. Overall, a good meal + good company = a good time.

Yelp
Ok let me be clear. The leather on the chairs in this restaurant must be pulled from the finest cow in the land. The way then held myself and my guest made us feel truly at home, like kings in a castle. Beyond the leather chairs, the service was wonderful, the food was flavorful and my night was made because of it all. Thank you good son, I hope my son turns out as good as you.

Yelp
Great brunch and neat atmosphere. Ordered the blueberry pancakes which were delicious! The restaurant has a neat antique decor which is a near energy to be surrounded by.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally made it here during Winterlicious. The restaurant has a pretty relaxed atmosphere and isn't overly loud, so it was a nice spot to meet a few friends. For appetizers we ordered Brussels Sprouts, which were really tasty though we would have liked a bit of a larger potion. We also got the Grilled Baby Gem, which tasted fine but was too small and only had a few chickpeas sprinkled one it when I had hoped for more. My partner ordered the Mushroom Pappardelle and really enjoyed it. The mushrooms were great and the thick noodles were fun, but it would have been nice if the dish had a protein as well. I ordered the Bulgogi Short Ribs and it was probably the best thing we tried that night. The meat was tender and delicious and I loved every bite. The kimchi fried rice was great and every bite was different thanks to the different sauces spread over the plate. For dessert I got the Gelato and it was just a very plain vanilla gelato with no toppings or anything. My partner got the Panna Cotta and it was much more exciting and flavourful. Overall we were pretty happy with our meal here, but the service was a little on the slow side and some of the dishes felt lacking to us for the price. We might come back but I think we'd probably prefer to try something new.

Yelp
Join the summerlicous! It's really yummy at this restaurant! Just a bit salty though for all dishes (not dessert of course ) But really nice environment and great offer/deal for summer time! Really glad we went there to try it out! Fun time!

Eileen T.

Yelp
I had a lovely evening with my friends to celebrate my pass in my final professional exam. The staff were so nice and accommodate our needs from time to time. The Summerliciois set was at a great value. We are thinking to return to this restaurant next time to try out other items on the menu.

Yelp
Ended up here accidentally on a Saturday afternoon, and I AM O B S E S S E D! the ambiance and decore is so charming! There were always good oldies playing as well! Now the food: stunning! We got two pizzas and they were simply fantastic. I am completely in love with The Good Son, and will be returning here 1000%. I highly recommend this spot to everyone!!!!!!

Mike K.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! My wife and I were in the mood for something different. We've been frequenting The Shops at Don Mills for many years and walk by The Good Son every time we're there. We both had pizzas from the menu. We were both impressed with the quality of the pizzas. They were both some of the best wood-burning oven pizzas we've had in Canada. A definite must for gourmet pizza lovers.

Yelp
Took momma out for Mother's Day (well my daughter's did). We spilt three pizzas between the 4 of us. Got the pesto fungi, Natalina & Prosciutto. All were fantastic and a great mix of variation. Service was spot on. Wine was great (fun) Pecorino Abruzzo. All in all daughters did good. Come again? For sure.

Yelp
I had dinner here with a small group tonight and we all really enjoyed it. The decor has a comfortable, almost homey vibe to it and the service was really warm and friendly. I started with an Old Fashioned cocktail and then shared a few dishes with one of my fellow diners. We had the Jerk Shrimp, the Bulgogi Short Ribs, the Grilled Octopus and the Brussels Sprouts. They were all quite good, but the octopus was a bit tough and chewy so I was somewhat disappointed, considering that was the main reason I chose the restaurant. It's fairly loud in the restaurant, which can make it hard for everyone to hear each other when you have more than 4 people seated together. I don't like for anyone to feel left out of a conversation, so that's a bit of a downside here. I'd love to go back to try some of their wood-grilled pizza as they looked really good!
google avatar

Yelp
Reall my love the ambiance here and also 10/10 on their steak tartare. Recommend their pizza as well!

Atchaya S.

Yelp
Love this place! Happened to randomly walk into this place to get dessert. I tried the tiramisu and was very impressed. The mascarpone cream was rich and creamy. Not too sweet and was perfect on the coffee. Service was great- the staff were all friendly. The interior of the place is absolutely gorgeous! Very aesthetically pleasing and had a great vibe to it. Will return again!

Yelp
We went here on a Friday without a reservation and they were able to seat us which was really refreshing. It's HUGE instead and has a really neat atmosphere. Really interesting decor like a wall of clocks. Our server was very well versed on the menu and great at being around when we needed. We just went for drinks (but did get the fries which were OUTSTANDING. so I'm curious to go back and try more on the menu. Really eclectic assortment of menu items). I got the Mexican Divorce which I really enjoyed. The glassware was also beautiful.

Yelp
I am very angry with The Good Son Restaurant in Toronto. Lingering over the food issue; I ordered the Brisket with Roasted Gnocchi, $38. Its quite dark in the restaurant and the fat on the brisket looked like gnocchi. My first taste of the brisket chunks I swallowed a whole piece of fat. My second taste of the brisket chunks I felt the fat wallow in my mouth and spit it into my napkin, and same with the 3rd. My husband had the mushroom tagliatelle and I tasted and it was quite good. One friend had the salmon which she liked and the other friend had pizza which he liked. The fried calamari was very meaty and excellent. The service was excellent. Well....a bill for $150 for one 2-course fixed priced menu, the mushroom tagliatelle, a $16 margarita, and a glass of wine. I am still thinking about how they had the nerve to serve the brisket chunks that were half fat as well as the gnocchi was over-roasted in a thick tomato sauce. If you go to this restaurant stay away from this dish. They offered to replace the dish but I would have had to wait and then eaten without my guests at the table, so I ate half the gnocchi and left the rest, and no other offer was made. OK, thats fine, just its shameful to serve food like that at $38.

Yelp
In a nutshell... I'd say it's not worth it post-covid. Smaller menu, food isn't as good, service is slower. And of course it's pricier now

Cassandra M.

Yelp
I went here for my birthday! The drinks were great, I got espresso martini. The service was great as well, the beef tartare was amazing!! The pizza was also delicious, would forsure recommend :)

Heather B.

Yelp
Love this place! Have celebrated a few special occasions here. Good food great service.
google avatar

Juliette N.

Yelp
Highly recommend the pizza here! Amazing crust and toppings. Our server made us his own pizza ‍ there was mushrooms and cheese on and it was delicious. Oysters were good quality, and cleaned well. The creme brûlée was a little too burnt for my liking. Decor is photo friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Came to the good son for a drink before heading to the bar so didn't quite get the full dinner experience Atmosphere: totally loved the feeling inside this place, lots of virago decor throughout the restaurant gave me a feeling that this would be a cool spot for a birthday celebration The drink: ordered a basic vodka seven, tasted very good was also offered a higher quality of vodka but decided to keep the regular kettle one. The bar had many different options, if you could think of the drink they can certainly make it. The food: We split a basic Margherita pizza which was very good, the quality of ingredients was extremely high quality. I would love to come back for a full out dinner, very impressed for my first visit.

Yelp
Finally!!! So excited they finally opened a location uptown!! Tastes just as good as I remembered it to be, well I mean the same as the downtown location. The atmosphere is exactly the same too, love the decor. Love the Brussel sprouts! I will say the Brussel sprouts were small but super tasty! The steak tartare was another one of my favorites. Love how they marinate it, tasted delicious. Mains took long to come out. They said the kitchen was busy but the tables weren't full and spotted a staff in the kitchen texting....not to mention a couple that came 2 tables after us got their pizza first. But the place is new so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I like the Mauna Loa pizza cause it's the perfect sweet and savoury pizza. Gotta love Woodfire oven pizzas! The pork cheek meat was super tender and the pineapple added nice sweet taste. Note it is spicy, spicier than I remember it to be. Also tried the mushroom pappardelle. The pasta was ok, tasted good but nothing special. Price is more on the expensive side given its portions but food is delicious. Service was great, my cup of water was always full. Definitely recommend and will be coming back!

Yelp
Dinner for two on a Tuesday evening. Love the restaurant and decor. Food was great. The staff were friendly and nice. Serving size was good enough for the two of us. We left happy and full I would come back again

Yelp
5 stars for the service and our bartender, Jamal! He made awesome custom cocktails based on what we were both looking for and was super helpful with recommendations for our touristy venturing around. Cool yet casual vibe, plus it was $10 pizza Wednesday! Absolutely no complaints, all around a great experience.

Yelp
Came here for brunch over the weekend with a group of 5 friends since other reviews had mentioned the good food. Reservations were made ahead of time and our table was a booth which was nice. A few members of the party were late and we trickled in slowly. From the very beginning we experienced poor customer service. Waiter did not introduce himself nor did he inquire what we wanted to drink. It was like he was giving us attitude and service was just awkward. It felt like he didn't want to serve our table at all. The food was delicious, our party ordered the eggs benny, chicken and waffles, and the french toast. All were delicious. However, the service was lacking. Even though we liked the food it is a shame because customer service is also a huge part of the dining experience. This will be the first and last time I try The Good Son.

Yelp
Had a reservation here on the recommendation of a friend last Saturday night. Loved the decor, which felt warm, sophisticated and inviting. Each of us had a different cocktail, and enjoyed them very much. I had the Lost Loves, which was surprisingly refreshing. For an appetizer we had the Jerk Shrimp. It came on a bed of mango slaw and peanuts; the combination of the grilled spicy flavour of the shrimp and the tanginess of the slaw was amazing. For my main I had the Flat Iron Steak. It was made perfectly medium-rare and was packed with flavour! The sauces provided paired perfectly not only with the steak, but also the French fries. Definitely a great place for a social night out with friends/family to enjoy some high-quality food.

Yelp
Don't be confused by the menu. That is definitely spicy sopressata pizza on one column and Korean beef ribs on the other. Since this was my first time visit and that I wanted to get the most out of it, so I decided to order two entrees. The spicy sopressata pizza came out first and it was awesome. Just the right amount of heat to balance with all the other ingredients. The crust was also just right - airy, charred, and crisp. The Korean beef rib is pretty much "galbi" on top of kimchi fried rice and charred scallions. A nice surprise was also the amount of chili sauce that you get with this dish as it was hidden underneath all of the beef ribs. The service was friendly and attentive. Tyler my waiter made sure to check how things were going. He was even the one who suggested to get the pizza out first and then finish with the ribs. With the cool ambiance, location, service, and an awesome diverse menu, I definitely recommend this place to business travelers like me. Will be back when I get the chance.

Yelp
Went with a group of four so I got to try a few more items :) Fried Brussels/ everyone liked them. Burrata Cheese/ not enough for 4 to share, because it's burrata and everyone wants more. Fish of the day, Sea Bream. Tender and delicious! Paired with a chickpea salad so it was nice and fresh (it was a larger serving, served cold and the taster wanted it warmed up- I liked it cold but thought it could go either way) The BURGER! yes, it's $19. Hands down this is one of Toronto's BEST burgers, it's a tie for first place with Pearl Diver. It's so tasty and cooked to perfection, you cannot go wrong! Even the fries were extra crispy and above par. Pizzas as always delicious!! Cooked perfectly and topped with quality ingredients. We shared the peanut butter chocolate ice cream sandwich (they cut it into 4) it was so yummy! I didn't personally love the creme brûlée (reminded me of mashed up bananas and I didn't think the top was candied enough) YUM! We'll be back. Only downfall, we went on a Thursday night and the volume levels are so loud you can hardly hear the people sitting at your table.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time at the Good Son. I love the open space, and the decor of this restaurant. It gives off a really relaxing vibe and it is the perfect dinner spot. My friend and I were craving pizza so we came here for the wood over pizza's. We ordered the Spicy Brussels Sprout to start and then got the Prosciutto Pizza and the Capricciosa pizza. The Prosciutto Pizza was my favourite because it had Arugula on it and who doesn't like Prosciutto!!! The Capricciosa Pizza was a little bitter for me because of the Artichokes (but still super tasty). I highly recommend the Spicy Brussels Sprout and the Steak Tartar (even though we didn't get it, I saw other people eating it and they looked very pleased LOL). The staff at the Good Son is friendly and attentive so it makes the entire experience even better. Keep in mind that if you're planning to go for a late dinner you need to make reservations. We went right when it opened (6PM) so we had an hour and a half to eat before all the reservations came in. They also have delicious drinks, happy hour consists of $4 off of every drink.

Yelp
Great decor, atmosphere and the service was phenomenal. First time going to the restaurant and we were impressed with the service. Food and drinks were great! I had the Bulgogi fried rice(so good!!!) while my gf had the Ontario PEI lobster soup. The soup was part of their anniversary menu. Drinks were worth it since we arrived during happy hour.
google avatar

Bree K.

Yelp
Ordered the manoa loa pizza and was a little disappointed. It was under baked and poorly dressed with there being a lot of crust to topping/cheese ratio. The bits of pork cheek were mainly just cubes of fat with little to no meat. The dough was really good tho so I hope next time will be a better experience

Yelp
A group of 7 of us easily made a reservation on Tuesday night - could have walked in. The decor and vibes in here really make the place! Great time spent with friends, or even a date. THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT!!! Food: I ordered the cheeseburger with bacon, cooked medium. The burger itself was cooked perfectly. The burger came with a side of fries ... seemed like i got the bottom of the bag of fries since they were all super small pieces, but I didn't care since I had a big burger. 10/10 recommend stopping here when you're in town!

Yelp
For brunch, drinks or dinner try the The Good Son - a dark, ecclectic interior with so many hanging portraits of "good sons", perhaps. Either way - it's a hub of the Queen St West's life. Just a bite from our full experience review.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
More than just great wood oven pizza. Also my favorite burger in Toronto. And fries with malt mayo! And solid cocktails. Plus, bartender Jemal sets the standard for friendly hospitality.

Yelp
Tried the Good Son last night and a recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint. Had a girls night out and we enjoyed the cocktails (The gin and juice was perfection), and shared some apps and mains. All were delicious but the stand out items were definitely the brussel sprouts and the kale salad. Would go back here in a heartbeat. Great food, and an amazingly cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
Amazing food, good friendly service. Sever was very patient with our large group for a friends birthday. Drinks were a little slow but it was jam packed so we did not mind.

Yelp
On the recommendation of a friend we went for brunch. Super awesome decor, really good service, and great food. But loud, really loud. I tend to find that unpleasant land one of the goals of dining is to enjoy the company of my friends. As it was brunch there was the limited brunch menu and two out of three of us ordered the breakfast pizza which was easily big enough for two if not three. Seriously too much food. It tasted awesome however I was suspicious of the grated Parmesan on top-it tasted a bit too off to actually be Parmesan Reggiano. My friend had eaten there before and had said how incredibly spectacular the Burrata was-one of my favorites. I asked the waiter if it was possible to get a Burrata order, he checked with the kitchen, and was able to do so! That alone is particularly impressive given the fact the restaurant was overbooked. The Brado it was excellent. Serve warm on a bed of greens with roasted root vegetables it was quite over the top-although a bit pricey. I definitely return the sample more of their dinner or lunch menu, but would attempt to do so at non-peak times.

Yelp
Really like this spot. It's great for a couple, for friends ..but not kids. It has a great buzz but an provide enough ambiance for a romantic dinner. Food feels Canadian, though Im not sure what that means. It's flavourful, creative and fresh. They have great specials which is what I usually opt for so it's hard to recall what's even on the regular menu! A neighbourhood gem- reservations needed.
google avatar

Pamela R.

Yelp
Great food! We went for brunch and the food was amazing but the service was very dry and cold. The drinks are comparable to the ones at Weslodge. You'll get a variety of summer cocktails infused with whiskey. The steak tartare is to die for! I would greatly recommend it for a light lunch!
google avatar

Malak M.

Yelp
Highly recommended for "the perfect brunch" craving! Went there on a Sunday and had a great time.. not only is the food tasty and fresh but the interiors are Amazing as well.. very warm and cozy! The staff are friendly and attentive.. We had the chicken and waffles and we chose right, the people in our group had eggs Benedict and vouched for it as well. Give it a try, I guarantee your will enjoy it!

Yelp
My fiance and I came for date night and we made reservations in advance. Overall I would say the experience was good, service was good, but food was just ok. We went in expecting some pretty damn good food, and as you'll see, not consistent enough to get the 4 or above stars. Steak tartar: as many mention, this will blow you away. Definitely one of the bests in the city. They start with a incredibly well seasoned, mixed, and perfectly textured steak tartar mix. On top, there's a raw quail egg, which when mixed with the tartar, gives even better texture and more depth and flavour. The finishing touch that makes this dish awesome is the toast. The toast is done in their wood oven and gives it this smoky flavour that pairs perfectly with the tartar. Jerk shrimp: would skip this. We ordered based on recos and reviews, but it certainly did not live up to our expectations. They come as 3 shrimp on top of a mango salad, we added a 4th for $5 more. Overall the shrimp were not very flavourful. They were wrapped in a potato string covering but they really lacked any sort of seasoning, and should definitely not be called 'jerk'. Either rename or re-season. Bulgogi short ribs with kimchi fried rice: as some mention below, the rice is bomb. Delicious and totally the star of the dish. However, the ribs left much to be desired. They were sliced ribs (not your rack-style) and were way overcooked to the point of dryness. The marinade was nice and balanced between sweet, salty and sticky, but the dryness of the ribs killed the dish. Octopus and fingerling potatoes: we've had lots of octopus in many different places and countries. This was good but could be better. Portion size was amazing, you get a whole tentacle for a good price, but the thicker parts of the tentacle became somewhat tough. The tip of the tentacle was the best, seasoning was good, but again, the thicker parts of the tentacle were less seasoned relative to the amount of meat. Very filling dish though and you definitely get your moneys worth of octopus! We didn't end up getting dessert as we were completely stuffed. Overall dishes were very satisfying, but there was definitely something missing from most of the food that could otherwise make this restaurant a home run.

Yelp
I read some positive reviews from open table and since we were in the neighbourhood, we decided to try it out. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. Two of us ordered the sea bream special and another person ordered the short rib with kim chee fried rice. The special fish dish was lacking in flavour and in portion. For $27 a plate I would expect more fish but it was a thin small piece. The short ribs were good and the rice was decent too. One thing this place needs to improve on is their knives. The short ribs were not the fall off the bone type so a knife is needed. Cutting into the meat was a chore. Dessert was just ok. The peanut butter ice cream sandwiches were presented well but it lacked a deep peanut flavour. The second dessert we had was the Lemon Curd which happened to be more like a yogurt type dessert and worst part was, it was warm! I would say the positive thing here is the customer service and the ambience. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She took the time to explain the specials and tell us the menu features. I won't be rushing back anytime soon but maybe next time will be better.

Yelp
The Good Son is one of those restaurants I'd been wanting to try, so when a friend suggested going there for dinner, I jumped at the chance. I don't usually talk about the ambiance at a restaurant, but I have to admit the appearance of The Good Son's interior is pretty impressive (and jaw-dropping, frankly). High walls covered in paintings and an eclectic layout, The Good Son is certainly one of Toronto's more unique-looking eateries. But onto the food. We decided to start with the Steak Tartare ("Soft-Boiled Quail Egg, Grilled Sourdough") and I have to admit, this was one of the best versions of this venerable dish I've ever had. The meat was mixed with perfect seasonings and flavors, while the tiny quail egg sitting atop the tartare was an ideal accompaniment. Seriously tasty. For my main, I went with the Mauna Loa Pizza ("Smoked Pork Cheek, Compressed Pineapple, Habaneros") and again, this was delicious. The smoked pork cheek was amazingly addictive, while the other toppings were perfectly utilized and spaced out. (Seriously, this is a problem with a lot of pizzas. The toppings have to be evenly placed!) I was too full for dessert, but I certainly look forward to returning and sampling their sweet wares.

Yelp
Good food, good atmosphere, good drinks. The Good Son is on the "good, good" theme. I'd recommend to eat family style, it's a great compliment to the atmosphere. This venue is great for shareable food items. Might as well go beyond sharing food and share laughs and a good time with friends. Pizza, Fries, Short ribs, olives, oysters combo'd with cocktails put together by some great bar chefs. ... and the friendly and knowledgeable staff... Yea, this place is a favorite.

Yelp
Classic Toronto service during a mid winter snow storm... don't spend your birthday here, they won't even acknowledge it. We made a Reso with a note that it was a birthday and we told the server - absolutely no acknowledgement even though we spent $300. The staff didn't want to be there and they seemed eager to get you in and get you out. The drinks were well made, food was good. but common.. not even a shot or birthday dessert? we won't be going back

Yelp
Visited Fri May 3 for dinner. I love the storefront like entrance. Jamo the server was attentive and friendly. The wall of clocks was a unique feature. Pros Wow the mushroom pappardelle was the most delicious pasta. Margherita pizza was also very fresh. Cons Prices a little bit on the high side $20+ for some of the mains and pizza. Lighting is a bit dark. Damage $44 after tax, pre-tip.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening for some dessert! The place was pretty packed at 10pm. Small selection but tasty options. Tonight's selection included creme brûlée .. which was amazingly creamy and delicious! The crust was nice and crisp with a little bit of burnt taste. Pretty standard creme brûlée taste. I ordered the lemon curd. So this is not your typical lemon curd or what I expected to be a blob of lemon meringue filling on a plate, but it looked like a breakfast fruit parfait w sliced bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and blueberry jam with sprinkled crumble (butter flour sugar crunchy mix) on top of the delicious but slightly tart creamy lemon curd. It was quite delicious and reminded me of my morning fruit and granola parfaits . This place was packedddd and I kind of liked the eccentric but cozy homey decor! Lots of large groups and lots of seating available if you're looking to book! I'm glad we walked in :)
