The Gordon Highlanders Museum is an absolutely extraordinary experience that left me deeply impressed from start to finish. Every exhibit is thoughtfully curated, vividly bringing to life the rich history and valiant spirit of the Gordon Highlanders regiment. I was particularly amazed by the outdoor trench replicas — they provide a powerful, immersive glimpse into the harsh realities faced by soldiers, making history feel incredibly tangible and real. Beyond the indoor displays, the beautifully maintained surrounding gardens create a peaceful and reflective atmosphere that perfectly complements the museum’s powerful storytelling. The blend of engaging exhibits and serene outdoor spaces makes this museum a must-visit for anyone interested in military history or Scottish heritage. Truly, it’s a place where history breathes and honors those who served with extraordinary dedication.

My mother was a Gordon, so it was important for me to check out this museum. I had an incredible personal guide named Jim who not only told me all the stories but we joked around. It was great fun.

Cannot recommend it highly enough. What an incredibly warm welcome, which continued, (I also quickly visited the cafe, where i had a tasty but generous slice of cake) I met some museum managers as I explored, we chatted about the events and history, was even offered a Christmas chocolate by staff as I left. Lots of history, but the visit made by the people. The museum used the last few years wisely, the presentation of the galleries is great, easy to read interpretation, with clear font, graphics and nicely laid out cabinets. It feels updated and modern, yet has lots on display to appeal to history lovers. Also great if you like swords and silverware.

I had an amazing visit to the Gordon Highlanders Museum. The exhibits are beautifully detailed, and the World War One-style trench is both immersive and moving. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable—special thanks to the former Gordon Highlander who took the time to walk me through the displays and share fascinating stories. A truly memorable and educational experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Aberdeen!

A wonderful museum with an impressive collection. The building itself is pretty and has all the modern amenities which allow comfortable experience for guests of every age/ability. There's a lot to see inside, but it's not overdone. All exhibition rooms are well-designed and very aesthetic. There are also some interactive elements. I have to say you don't need to be a military freak to enjoy this. A lot of stuff like the silverware collection or little bits and pieces of soldiers' equipment can be interesting to everyone. I however am a freak so I especially enjoyed the weapons collection, medals from many different campaigns and of course the famous WW1 trench which is located on the outside. Sadly it was raining when I visited so I didn't take pictures, but on the other hand it only added to the experience. Hats off to the folks who designed and built it, it's a work of art. There was a young guide with us, who was super-passionate about WW1 and had a great storytelling talent. For more sensitive audience and kids this may be a slightly heavy topic, so keep that in mind. All in all, one of Aberdeen's top attractions. A definite must-see.

Yelp
Adventured to the Gordon Highlanders Museum on foot on Sunday 7 July 2019. I had seen different open hours online on different websites, so I decided to walk here and check out if it was open. Approaching walking down the street, I noticed a gate rolled across the driving entrance. Thinking this meant the museum was closed, but wanting to make sure as it was my first time to the museum, I walked down to the street below to see if there was another entrance. On the street below is a walking entrance to the museum grounds with a nature/sitting area. There was not a gate/barricade in place, so I walked up to the museum building. The parking lot was a good size and spots were well marked. The entrance had a sign posted with hours and entrance fees. Turned out the museum was closed both Sunday and Monday, so as I was leaving Aberdeen and heading north on Monday 8 July, I missed the inside of the museum on my July 2019 Scotland heritage travel trip. The grounds were beautiful, well-maintained, and informative on their own.

Yelp
Wonderfully put together place with plenty of interactive bits for children. We took a tour of the WWI trench and the tour guide, John, was both informative & enthusiastic - really enjoyed! We also had a lunch at the cafe where they have a selection of sandwiches & soup. Food was tasty and service was friendly. Highly recommend for families, lovers of history & visitors to Aberdeen!

Yelp
A magnificant testament to the enduring tenacity and bravery of the Gordon Highlanders. We were given a personal tour and in-depth explanation of each exhibit. The silver room is amazing as is the dining room in all its splendour. Well worth the visit. The Museum is run by faithful abd dedicated volunteers.

Yelp
We have been to the Gordon Highlanders Museum before and our daughter volunteers there. We have always enjoyed the museum, but this was our first visit since the opening of the World War I trench. What a great addition! A very nice structure outside depicting a trench brought to life by the excellent guides. It really elevates the experience of the museum. See the rest, have lunch and/or coffee, spend one to one and a half hours and you will have a great afternoon.

Yelp
Ever find a museum that you normally wouldn't think of visiting until you see it in a guide book? You figure, "What they hey, I'll give it a shot." The Gordon Highlander's Museum is one such place. The Gordon Highlanders is one of the great names in Scottish history and one of the most celebrated regiments of the British Army. Currently they are serving in The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Through the ages they have served in many wars. In the 20th Century they served in WW1 and out of some 50,000 more than 27,000 were injured or killed. In WW2, they served with the British Expeditionary Force in France in 1940 and in the Far East in 1942. Many of them became prisoners of war. In the 21st Century In 2006, The Highlanders merged with Scotland's five other infantry regiments to form The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Like many Scottish museums we visited, this one is in a historic house: St Luke's the former home of 19th-century Scottish artist, Sir George Reid. The Grant Room is the main exhibit hall. Here you can find out about the Gordon's early history as well as campaigns in South Africa, India, both World Wars, and the Cold War. Rick enjoyed the armory with its impressive displays of weaponry and the silver and antiques. I'm a part time musician so I enjoyed the special exhibit running until November 28, 2010. Cogadh na Sith (War or Peace) : Music and The Gordon Highlanders showcasing the drums & pipes and military band of the Gordons and the major personalities behind both bands. Sometimes it really pays to visit a place like this. You can really learn a lot by visiting a museum that's not a major tourist trap.

Yelp
This is a small museum, so allowing around half a day to see it is probably about right. Having said that, the layout and quality of exhibits is both excellent and informative. The staff are very professional, friendly & helpful. I was priviledged to be guided round the museum by a veteran of Normandy, one of only three surving Gordons from the second world war, so there is quite something of a personal touch to the accounts of the Gordons in action. In fact, you could extend your visit quite easily by spending time talking to these very knowledeable curators, as I found myself starting to do. An added bonus is the lovely little cafe. Highly recommended
