I loved our 8-night stay at The Gore Hotel.
The rooms are small, but well-appointed and completely charming. For example, gorgeous antique brass and copper exterior pipes run water to the bath and shower. Plush bathrobes provided, high thread count sheets, lovely antique furniture throughout the entire hotel. Complimentary bottled water, tea, and coffee self-service in a lovely library on the first floor. True, the breakfast is expensive but it's delicious and the restaurant is so lovely that it's worth it. Location is ideal if one likes museums.
I was a bit disappointed that the staff, though perfectly attentive and knowledgeable, were English-as-a-Second-Language speakers, making my British experience less so. So I discovered that London is a global city like any other these days, with international workers from around the world. Just about everywhere we went (museum stores, restaurants, hair salons) it was the same story. I'm not sure where British people work?
I took off one star due to the lack of wi-fi. The Gore has a complimentary, communal PC available, but the machine was so old and wi-fi connection so slow that it kept freezing up. One can purchase wi-fi by the hour or day, but that's what made my husband so mad. He says only the high-end hotels still charge for wi-fi.
Still I would definitely recommend The Gore Hotel and can't wait to go back.
