The Governor's House Inn

"How did it strike you on arrival? This is the perfect example of a grand old Charleston house with double piazzas and a sweeping staircase in the entry hall. It still feels like a private residence because it was just that until 1998 when it was converted to an inn. From the street, its 3-story Georgian frame feels imposing. From within, you get to "play house" in an antique-filled residence formerly inhabited by the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. The sitting parlor is the best spot for channeling nearly 260 years of history, especially after you've poured yourself a complimentary nip of sherry. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Couples of all ages, Europeans, history buffs, bridal parties. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.I splurged on the "Middleton Suite" for its marble wet bar, period antiques, and updated bathroom with separate walk-in glass shower (really I just wanted to experience the chandelier over the bathtub!). I say this because some other bathrooms appear to be dated or small (it's hard to squeeze bathrooms into an old house). The bedrooms themselves are the main event: mahogany four-poster beds with hand-tied fishnet canopies, massive doors, pine wood floors that creak for good measure, oriental rugs. Many rooms have fireplaces, as did mine, the caveat being that you can't use them unless supervised because the house is on the Historic Register. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? My room had nine-foot triple-hung windows original to the 1760 house, meaning that to access the wide piazza, you slide up three sets of enormous panes (it's easy) and walk out. This speaks to an era when houses were taxed by their number of doors, so these windows were a clever evasion. Wi-Fi is free and fully operational. I'm not sure how I would manage it, but I would steal the Collard & Collard antique grand piano in the living room (then tune it and replace its missing string). Room service: Worth it?There's no restaurant here, but the inn's first floor kitchen is busy around the clock, putting out freshly prepared breakfasts like Italian frittata or blueberry strata, then whipping up cheese and olive spreads, dips, antipasto, and deviled eggs for afternoon's wine and cheese hour. You can request breakfast delivered by tray to your room if you ask the night before. Meanwhile excellent restaurants are a quick walk away: Millers All Day, "Fast & French" a.k.a. Gaulart & Maliclet, and many more within a few city blocks. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There's no on-site spa (this really is just a grand old B&B) but the inn will arrange for an in-room massage with 24 hours notice. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Stay here if you crave an authentic Charleston house experience, inclusive of slightly old-school porch furniture and the occasional patch in the ceiling. The rooms are glorious throwbacks, many with 12-foot ceilings, and you can vet them all on the website. For those of you who want big bathrooms, choose your room wisely (there are some). The inn sits on the edge of Charleston's most famous historic residential district "South of Broad," so this really is a gateway for exploration." - Allston McCrady

The Governor's Inn is truly an amazing place to stay. Although I spent a little more than I usually spend on a room, I will say the Governor's Inn was worth every penny! The property is beautiful and the decor was very quaint. The room was well appointed and had everything we needed. The location was fantastic and I was very surprised how quiet it was. We stayed at the St. Michael's room which had a wonderful view of the St. Michael's Church steeple. The staff was so amazing and accommodating. Karen, Cathy and Ross were phenomenal! We will definitely be back.

We were impressed before we even arrived at the Governor's House Inn. We called on more than one occasion after making our reservations in order to ask opinions about local restaurants, places to see, etc. We spoke with Karen and Kimberly on more than one occasion and they were invaluable in helping us plan our stay in Charleston. We arrived after hours, but we had a check-in video sent to us which eliminated all guess work. Once we stepped inside we were greeted with a well lit, stunning Colonial Mansion. Tasteful classic music was playing for the guests as well as a decanter of sherry. We were speechless. We met Karen and Kimberly the next day and both were just as nice and helpful as they were in our phone calls. Everyday, the Inn has an afternoon wine/sherry/food outlay which we enjoyed each day we stayed at the Inn. Very classy mansion in a very nice neighborhood with many close by places to eat and drink. The Mansion has onsite free, safe, and plentiful parking in back away from the street. We noticed other Inns required their guests to park a block away due to inadequate parking space. Not so at the Governor's Inn. That convenient parking was extremely helpful. This mansion belonged to one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and was also host to George Washington on four evenings during his 1791 visit to Charleston. We were very impressed with the Governor's House Inn.

We found the Governor's House Inn to be a beautiful B&B conveniently located in historic Charleston. We were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff. We had a lot of fun chatting with "Q" as she showed us around and made us feel right at home. The purpose of our stay was to get married the next day at White Point Garden. On our wedding day, Tracy personally assisted us with all the little details of our day. She was awesome! She went well above and beyond to assist us as needed, including driving us blocks away for our ceremony. The inn is beautifully decorated and we enjoyed sharing in it's history.

We stayed in the "St. Michael's" room which is located on the top floor. The entire house (including our room) was incredibly charming and beautiful. Extremely well preserved and you truly felt "at home". From our room we had a view of the St. Michael's church steeple that was simply stunning, especially at night. This B&B is ideally located, right on Broad street where anything in the downtown area can be walked to, we didn't even rent a car. As for the staff, they were wonderful!!! They were extremely accommodating and always helping with planning our daily activities in any way they could - whether it was suggestions on restaurants, tours, sites or actually making reservations for us or scheduling a cab ride. Each morning the breakfast was absolutely delicious! I appreciated that they also offered alternatives if you preferred something other than the scheduled breakfast. At 4pm, there is an "afternoon tea" which includes wine, tea, coffee, and a number of sweet and savory snacks to enjoy - once again, delicious. The entire presentation for breakfast and tea was just wonderful - it all felt very "of the time" with the antique serve-ware and dishes. My husband and I just absolutely loved this place and would most definitely go back. It made our trip!!

Google
A splendid and historic Inn. The suites were impeccably clean, well appointed with classic and comfortable furniture. The beds were comfortable, too. The owners were on property and took the family on a guided tour. They were very knowledgeable about the history of the home and Charleston. We felt like we were with family – we smoked cigars and drank aged cognac on the porch and they even prepared a special dinner for us, twice. We plan to return to the Inn very soon.

Google
After several visits to the Charleston area, we have discovered a real gem in the Governor's House Inn. Accommodations were great and the bed was to die for. Breakfasts were not huge but exquisitely done with just enough elegantly served food to get the day started. The location was awesome as it is positioned close enough to walk to any downtown action you could ask for. The friendly and helpful staff were the crowning glory to cap off a great stay. We'll be returning to this B&B for sure.

The house and the furnishings are as beautiful as the pictures predicted. The staff was courteous, professional and welcoming. We especially enjoyed the served breakfasts and afternoon teas with the other guests . The atmosphere was very collegial and we enjoyed conversations with new friends. This was so much more pleasant than the typical impersonal, no-eye-contact breakfasts we are experience at most hotels

We came to Charleston to celebrate our 11th anniversary and decided to try a B&B for the first time. We were not disappointed! The Inn was very well taken care of and the staff was very helpful and attentive. They even asked if we would like to borrow beach chairs and an umbrella for our beach day. The breakfast each morning was delicious and we sat in the main dining room with other guests and even got to meet the owner. The owner was very helpful with recommendations to make our trip even more enjoyable. You can tell the owners love the house and city and are more than just business owners.

Yelp
I mean you can't get any better than this!!!!!! Best B&B we have ever stayed in! Awesome location, super cool old house. Great parking in the back that is unheard of! Service was impeccable! Great advice on local places to eat. The breakfasts were good. The wine and snacks in the afternoon was amazing! Our room was super great and had a huge bathroom! Super clean, great beds, I mean, we hated to leave! Not cheap but worth it. I mean you get to stay in a house where a signer of the decoration of independence lived!!!!!

Yelp
Stayed here for a couple of nights 03/30 - 04/01/2019 There really was an air of excitement knowing even a little bit of the history of this inn. We could almost 'feel' the history when we walked in the door. Edward Rutledge, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence lived here from 1776 to 1800. Very cool. This place was built in the 1700s, but it is very well maintained. Bathrooms have been updated nicely... at least ours was as was the Rutledge Suite that we snuck a peek in when it was being cleaned. Gorgeous room. Our room (Angel Oak) is on the third floor and there are no elevators to the third floor... or for that matter even to the second floor. But we knew that and it wasn't a problem as we keep track of our 'steps' on Fitbits and that extra floor sure helped the the couple days we were there. We packed some small bag so we wouldn't have to lug our suitcases up three flights of stairs. But we booked late and this was the last room available. The Angel Oak room is very pink with angled ceilings, so watch your head. The floorboards are very wide and do have some small gaps here and there, but didn't infringe on our privacy at all. A bit creaky perhaps, but not bad. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were fresh and crisp. We arrived at their wine and cheese hour, which was nice after an 8 hour drive from Siesta Key, Fl. Spencer was at the desk and was very helpful in getting us up to our room and answering any question we had about the Inn. The Inn is located in the historic area of downtown Charleston and is within an easy (10-15 minute) walk to the Market Street mall as well as Bay Street restaurants and just about every other sightseeing spot in historic Charleston. Breakfast is included in the price of a night's stay, so that helped a bit because it's not exactly cheap to stay here. The first morning we were treated to 'shrimp and grits'... Now that's not exactly everyone's favorite breakfast as some of the guest voiced their displeasure. My wife and I however love a good shrimp and grits, even for breakfast and this one was very very good. A bit more 'plain' if you will, in that there was no andouille sausage or onions and peppers in the grits, but it was still tasty and cheesy, with a nice sauce and 3 fat shrimp on top. The grits were 'fried' into an upside down muffin like form, topped with the sauce and the shrimp. Those who didn't try this dish missed out in my opinion However the second say vegetable fritatas were on the menu, but my wife and I just wanted a couple of eggs, over easy. Well, our eggs came out 'well done' to say the least. We really hate to complain and I know we should have, but... I don't know, we just didn't. I loaded mine up with hot sauce and ate it with the toast. It's just puzzling how a chef or cook can plate a couple of obviously overcooked eggs when 'over easy' was the order. Anyway... other than those couple of criticisms (the kitchen could use some help making eggs and the prices are a bit steep) this is still a great place to stay while you're visiting historic Charleston.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights last weekend. This was our third time in Charleston, but our first time at the Inn. We couldn't have had a better experience at the Inn! It was beautiful, clean, and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Lovely, elegant, beautiful quiet inn. Period furnishings with a great house history - but nothing musty or 'just out of the attic' about this place. An exquisite get-away where you can relax in true comfort.

Yelp
We loved it!! Majestic Inn with a fun history. We enjoyed the ambiance of the entire property! Wine at 4:30pm allowed us to mingle with other guests and share our stories of the day! The Inn's location is a perfect spot for exploring the neighborhoods and the King/Meeting St shops and restaurants. We will be coming back, so you better get your reservation before we get the room you want! If you don't like this charming home place, there is just something wrong with you.

Yelp
The house itself did not disappoint. It's a gorgeous historic place. Beautiful antiques and decor. A true southern style mansion turned Inn. We stayed in the Rutledge suite which is considered the master suite. Check in was smooth and the inn keeper was nice. Our room had a tv, coffee pot and mini fridge. Downside was only two towels and absolutely no room service due to staff shortage. We had to collect our towels into a basket provided and after three nights the trash can was overflowing. This is NOT a bed and breakfast. You get a $15 voucher per person per day to walk to one of 4 restaurants. Two very close by 1/2 block away. After staying in other registered Inns we were very dissatisfied in the wine social hour. Everything was store bought and minimalistic. Same stuff out out every day. Cheap wine, cubed cheese and crackers, nuts, and olives. Overall we loved the house, but got absolutely no service for $600 a night I was not impressed.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Charleston and we wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast that was centrally located. We chose the Governor's House Inn. They far exceeded my high expectations. From the beautiful home and our beautifully decorated room with its own private balcony to Q and Cathy being the ultimate hosts it was a wonderful experience. The house is perfectly located so once we arrived we never used the car the entire visit. We walked to everything. I am so pleased to know that we now have the perfect place to stay on our next visit to Charleston and I highly recommend this Inn.

Yelp
This Home is beautiful, inn keepers are gracious and have a wealth of knowledge of the area. The rooms are all different and very comfortable including the beds. This home was once owned by a signer of the Declaration of Independence, visited by George Washington, Gerald Ford, Pope John Paul and many more. There are many places to visit within walking distance along with some great local restaurants. Full size breakfast is served and afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres. The other guests we met here were from all over and each had great stories to share. My husband and I had a wonderful time and will be returning in the near future.

Yelp
Roaches and damp smell from the drain. Would give less than a star if I could. We had a live roach in the shower and a dead one outside our room. Also whenever we used the shower the drains smelt awful afterwards. I phoned to complain and asked for one nights stay money back. The general managers response was that the owner was not willing to do that, but will waive the cancellation fee so we could leave and go elsewhere! Oh why thanks very much for that useless customer service. No offer of any money refund, no other room options. Nothing. I have already paid for the room, of which they are not willing to return any money; so why would we go and spend more money somewhere else and double pay for the night. Plus if we did that the B and B would just fill our room for the night and make more money. I didn't want to give them that satisfaction. Also is was already 4pm on the Saturday night, we are on holiday. No I don't want to start finding somewhere else to go for that evening. I was simply shocked at her response and asked to speak to the owner. She didn't seem to understand and kept saying they have pest control. Ok. But the fact is you still have roaches. I told her I was going to write a review, and she said that they can respond to things like that. I'm not sure what the response will be. I am writing the facts of what we had, what we smelt, and the facts of the option given to us. Which was "ok then leave". She may deny this, or warp the truth but so be it... I would just say believe me on this one and trust my review!! Do not stay here.

Yelp
Fantastic!! Everything you expect from a top notch B&B. We booked the Governor's House Inn for New Year's Day to spend a couple nights in Charleston. Parking is included and easily accessible in a cute roundabout/garden, a great feature. Staff was cordial and started us off with a brief tour of the grounds and the history of the house (Edward Rutledge, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and SC Governor, was a former owner and resident) before handing over our keys and leading us up to our room. After getting our things settled in, we were treated to light hors d'oeuvres and wine. The building is very well kept with graceful, mostly Victorian era, furnishings. The innkeeper pointed us to the decanter of sherry if we wanted a nightcap later in the evening. Of course, passing up an offer like that would be crazy! I still need to ask what brand that was... Breakfast both mornings of our stay was delicious and homemade served with a side of juice and fruit. A few alternate options were offered for special dietary requirements. Our room was well-appointed with a gorgeous canopy bed and very high ceilings. The triple hung windows reminded me of visits to Jefferson's Monticello...except they actually let you open these! The staff are happy to help with any questions you might have about the best tours, sites, restaurants or bars to visit. Take time out to relax on the veranda outside and have a cup of tea, too. The surrounding boughs of trees, nearby church bells and occasional clip-clop of passing carriages have the ability to take you back to a different period. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

Yelp
How can I be the first to review this gem? We arrived, had a nice easy check-in, and were given a brief history (house belonged to SC governer/Declaration of Independance signer Rutledge) and tour of the public areas for our use, and told of the reception and meal times. We were than led to our room, The Christopher Suite, which is accross the garden, in what was the old Kitchen house. The suite takes up the entire first floor of the house, has the original 1760 fireplace, and a huge sun porch. It is decorated in a lush and serene color scheme, and has a large whirlpool bath. In the afternoon, there is tea, wine, cakes, and cheese and crackers, throughout the day there is Sherry, and breakfast is 8-9am in the dining room, or may be delivered to you. The location is EXCELLENT, you can walk to the market downtown, and all the restaurants/shops/harbor,trolley tours etc. There is also free parking and wi-fi. The staff is very sweet and engaging. I cannot praise this inn enough, I will definitely return, and I highly reccomend it.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous, the staff accomodating and well read, and the breakfast delish!! WE stayed in the Barbados room, although on the lower level, it did not matter, for it was a great room, with a semi private sitting area on the outside. There was a whirpool tub, which was lovely, and the bed and pillows comfy!! LOVE IT!

Yelp
Stayed here in Aug 2011 for a weekend getaway with my wife, and loved it so much that we came back again in July 2012. This B&B was the deciding factor in coming back to Charleston for a second year in a row -- the service is so attentive and pleasant, the breakfasts are gourmet, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff went the extra mile to make sure that we had everything we needed: we wanted to spend a day at the Isle of Palms beach, and they had beach towels, beach chairs, and a cooler on-hand and ready for use. The location is great, walking distance from the rainbow houses, battery park, the market, the "old exchange", and other attractions near Broad street. The CARTA trolley has a stop a few blocks away, to get to other places a little further away like the ferry that goes to Ft. Sumter. They have a good selection of dinner menus on hand, and are eager to help in choosing just the right restaurants during your stay. It will be a pleasure to keep coming back to Governor's House Inn again and again, when we find time to visit Charleston in future years.

Yelp
I decided to book the Governors House Inn for an Easter weekend trip with my mother and sister. I did EXTENSIVE research on B&Bs across the downtown area of Charleston - seeking accommodations that were high end, in the perfect location within walking distance of the charming downtown area, and historic in nature. The Governors House Inn ticked all of these boxes. We were greeted with a warm welcome when we arrived and the service we received throughout our trip from the men who worked in the main house was top notch. We stayed on the lower level on the kitchen house in the back which is one of the few rooms that can accommodate three people. The wine and cheese hour that they offer at 430 is such a nice touch and made the trip so much more enjoyable. And the breakfast offering in the mornings was VERY delicious both days of our stay. I noticed in some of the reviews that people complain about the noise from other guests in the house. I think that feedback is a bit unfair - this is an old restored home so you have to accept the fact that you may hear your neighbor walking around a bit in the next room. In terms of my criticism - the rooms were definitely pricier than I wanted to spend (~1200 for a two night stay). In addition to this, the ladies who clean the rooms didnt really do a good job on our first night and were a bit unprofessional. We had breakfast served in our room the first morning and when we came back after a day of sightseeing the dirty dishes were still in our room, however the beds were made. Additionally, the day we were checking out we could hear the cleaning ladies complaining quite loudly about other guests in a nearby room.

Yelp
My friend and I went to this establishment thinking it was the right address and asked politely after knocking and they came to the door, "our friend said to come in and go to the pool?" and the man, presumably running the hotel, gave a snarky reply, "No you don't" and slammed the door in our faces. We were very respectful by knocking and asking if we were at the right place, and did not try to enter, as we did not know if it was the right location. I will most definitely never be coming to this inn. Very rude hosts and I will definitely never speak well on this place again.

Yelp
I loved the old historic home and all its charm. The staff was very friendly and I loved the inn cat "New". New even joined us in our room once. The location is perfect and I loved the parking. Parking is critical in the area. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the limited breakfast window and that our room was very small. Granted my wife booked the room and she probably could of chosen a larger one but Expedia didn't give her options so we were left pretty cramped. Overall I loved this place and would stay again.

Yelp
I loved this place. It is so beautiful and quiet and centrally located. The house is gorgeous and out of a history book. I got the tour from Jodi when I arrived and she told me everything I should do in my one day in town. From the haunted jail tour to some wonderful shopping down at the market, I absolutely loved my stay and all of the information I got from her. She is a treasure. The breakfast was incredible (bananas foster french toast on croissants) I die! The house was clean and pretty, and there is parking. Soft towels and a nice bed. I loved it!

Yelp
We're not thrilled with this inn. It's nice but nothing special. When I booked our room the listing didn't mention it's in the basement and has no windows. Breakfast our first day was good but again nothing special. The second day was awful--French toast made with stale white bread and a very sweet pecan concoction which might as well have been pie. My teeth hurt after eating it. The staff were nice. We never saw the upstairs rooms.

Yelp
Such an amazing stay in Charleston! It was cool to stay in such a historical house, and the location was key. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to do downtown. We were in the Magnolia room on the top floor. Room and bathroom were very large and comfortable. Wine and cheese every afternoon was a plus. The breakfast was amazing and made to order each day. Shrimp and grits, pecan praline French toast and sausage & cheese frittata. Parking behind the Inn was super convenient and we were able to borrow beach towels and chairs to spend one day at the beach. The staff was friendly and helpful with great recommendations of places to go. Would definitely stay again!

Yelp
On September 19, hours before I was to leave for Charleston SC, I woke up to a broken pipe in my house..2-3 inches of water throughout my entire house. Once I had a plumber and dry out team, while baseboards and carpets were being taken out, I called Governors House Inn. I spoke to the director and asked for a credit towards another vacation. She told me their cancellation policy was 2 days notice. I said I'm aware of that but the pipe broke a few hours ago otherwise I would already be on my way there. She said no credit or refund of my deposit. Due to a personal loss this year..I said..I really needed this vacation. I started crying and she hung up on me. The next day while walls were being taken out of my house I received a email receipt for my deposit. I will never book with them again.

Yelp
We spent one night in the 'Barbados' room recently and enjoyed our visit. The staff were all very friendly and helpful (thanks Hollis, "Jay" and Jacob). The building is beautiful and the extra amenities were thoughtful. The only negative: my wife thought the room smelled a bit too much of air freshener. I liked that the inn is well located but sort of on the fringe of the 'action' which, during the busiest times of year, probably makes for quieter lodging.

Yelp
When we pulled up to the Governor's House Inn I couldn't believe this was where I was going to be staying. The house and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. The guy that greeted us upon our arrival was so nice, offered us a drink and gave us a tour around the house as well as little history lesson. He was quick to offer up things to do, places to eat, etc. Everyone we met that worked at the Governor's House was so friendly and accommodating. Our room was quaint and cozy and was off of a little shaded patio that offered a nice place to chill out with a drink. Breakfast at the Governor's House was incredible. Creme Brulee french toast! I can't wait until my next visit to Charleston. The Governor's House Inn will be my first pick of places to stay. Thanks for everything!

Yelp
We have had a lovely 3 night stay at this extrodinary Inn. The location is central to everything. We have walked everywhere and have not needed to use the car. The fountain and gardens create a wonderful ambience and there is ample parking which is very unusual for a B&B in town. Our room is elegant and well appointed. We have a granite wet bar, refrigerator, giant four poster bed, couch, chair, coffee table and 2 bureaus. The tile bathroom has a walk in shower on one side and a large jacuzzi tub on the other. We have a private patio with ample and comfortable furniture. And our chocolate lab is a welcomed guest. Breakfast is served in the main dining room of this historic house. One of the original owners, Edward Rutledge, was the youngest person to sign the declaration of independence. We had breakfast on the 1st floor porch overlooking the gardens. The first morning breakfast was a quiche with applewood bacon and scallions served with a fruit cup and homemade coffee cake. Today we had bananas foster french toast with grilled sausages. Absolutely delicious and excellent service. I highly recommend staying here. We will definately be back.

Yelp
Beware! I booked 2 nights for mid October at the Governor's House Inn through Expedia (my first time using Expedia). I received an itinerary number and a confirmation number on October 1st. Approximately one week later I received a call from a customer service representative at Expedia telling me that my reservation had been cancelled by the Inn with no reason nor explanation. I was told I could have a different, more expensive room but at that room's rate which would have cost me between $150 and $200 more! If I did not care for that, I could have a room at another establishment that they managed across the street. This room, however, had less amenities than our original room but I had to pay the same amount as the original room at the Governor's House Inn. I am baffled by the lack of courtesy, lack of compensation, and inability to at least apologize! Fortunately for my husband and me, we did not accept either of their offers and found another inn located in historic Charleston where we were treated appropriately and were able to walk everywhere.

Yelp
We want to stay at a B&B while in Charleston. We look a 3 or 4 and decided to stay here at the Governor's House Inn. Wow were we glad we did. The house is full of history without felling like you are in a museum. The people that run it go out of their way to be sure that you have what you need. We meet other friendly guests at breakfast and at High tea which are included in the price of the stay. I will stay there next time in

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and helpful, we met wonderful people during both breakfast and the wine and cheese hour, and the food was delicious. Our room was on the third floor, which was clean, well-appointed, secluded and quiet. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
If you go to Charleston and you don't stay here, you're doing yourself (and anyone you're traveling with) a disservice. This is the most charming freaking place in all the land. the staff could not possibly be more helpful and nice. this location is ridic too. so central. you can walk to all the restaurants, the waterfront, and all that. omg the afternoon tea and pastries CANNOT be missed. and their breakfast on the deck. you'll feel like a true southern belle after. make sure you go for a tour in the house. it's worth it

Yelp
7/12/15 My husband and I just got back from our first trip to Charleston. Not only did we love the historic section of town, our stay at the Governor's House Inn made our visit one of our favorites! The Inn was not only beautiful, but the staff was amazing! We felt immediately welcomed with sincere appreciation for not only us, but for the historic home for which they clearly appreciated and treasured. We were introduced to the chef and the entire staff who warmly expressed their sincere desire to make our visit a pleasure, and boy did they deliver! My husband and I mentioned each day after our trips of shopping, beaches and museums that it will be nice to go home and rest before heading back out. We have never made a reference of "home" before with any lodging, but this is exactly how we felt, at home. Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious, thank you chef Marty! We especially want to thank Teko and Linda for such gracious hospitality, and making our stay so very pleasant. We will certainly return to the beautiful Governor's Inn and hope to see all of you again. Robert and Tracy Tipton, Knoxville TN.

Yelp
Awesome host Noah! He was so nice and knew the area well. Made us feel right at home. Beds were quite uncomfortable for $500+ a pop. Noisy. We stayed four days and lawnmower and leaf blower were running from 9am-6pm daily. Yes, daily

Yelp
